Well, what can I say? Going to the MVD is like having teeth pulled. Not a pleasant experience. But a necessary evil that must be conqured every so often. I know most of the services can be done online now, but since we just moved back from out of state it's easier to go in person. They opened at 7:30 am, we arrived at 7:20 to stake out a place in line. At 7:30 the doors opened and two employees came out and asked who had an appointment, once that was established we were sorted into two separate lines. Appointments and walk ins. Once we got to the door we were asked what our purpose was there, and was told we didn't have all the paperwork needed to get things done and we needed an emissions test. So away we went to get things done. About 1 hour later we returned with everything we needed. The line was long of course and there are no chairs to sit down so you are standing the whole time, even at the desk while taking care of things. It was finally our turn and the attendant, Steve was very helpful and friendly. Total time spent was just over an hour and now hopefully we can do the renewals online when it is time. read more

Three stars! Five stars for the help and courtesy of the appointment person who helped us, but 1 star for the DMV's information provided to the public. Let me summarize my dissatisfaction with their information provided: 1. I called for the appointment. I told the girl that I needed an appointment to get about 6 things accomplished involving 3 of my vehicles. I was told "no problem" you can do as many transactions as you need to. When I get there, I am told that I can do only 4 transactions and I would have to make another appointment to get the other 2 done. WTF!! 2. The website says that I cannot sell my vehicle online if it is not titled in a single person's name and I am selling it to another individual person. I am told at the DMV office that the website is wrong and I can sell online my vehicle even if it listed as "and/or". So tell me, how do I do that? The website will not allow this to happen!!! 3. The website will not allow me to request a refund since their electronic verification system cannot accurately compare my "selfie" to my driver's license picture. So I have to personally make a trip to the DMV to ask for a refund. 4. Then they tell me that they cannot give me a refund if I am doing other transactions that require a fee or new registration taxes. Those costs must be deducted from my refund balance in my account. So I tell them OK. Then when I asked for a detailed receipt showing all the debits and credits on my account they tell me the system will show me the balance and not the transactions. WTH!!! How stupid is that? 5. One of the transactions involve registering my wife's car for 2 year. So I do that. Their stupid system takes the costs our of my account and a few dollars out of her account. WTH??!! Why did it do that? The girl had no clue as to why this happened. It is my wife's account -- shouldn't the system take all the dollars out of her account then show a remaining balance owed by her? Why did it take partial amounts out of both of our accounts but still leave a partial balance in her account? OMG!!! This is the most idiotic thing I have experienced with the DMV. I have always been impressed by the DMV's efficiency but this time it was the pits! Maybe it's their new system, but in any event, this was a horror story of a visit for me! read more

I ordered plates for my vehicle back on 4/17/2020 I paid and got the confirmation but somehow there's no record? I have the email and can show that the money was taken out. I usually go to Tempe + Scottsdale locations. I figure to give this location a go. Please know, I was dreading coming here today from my personal experience and my mates. Rarely does anyone received good service... not to mention it is slow and service is quite crass and whoa!-DMV-hired-you-with-that-attitude? I am speechless! From reception to completing what I came here for,... it only took me 35 minutes. (It's the same deal i need to do annually. Last time it took me nearly 2 hours. Came back at the proper time to there being a massive line of people because they hadn't posted the information about being closed on there website. I arrived a few minutes before opening time and there was already someone at the door who greeted me and gave me the appropriate work to fill out. Seriously, who do you think you are? If I could give you negative stars, I wouldn't because you're not worth my time. I schedule a road test, and apparently The MVD decides that it is a hazard to drive in the rain with such "bad" conditions however in Washington it rains on average 213 days a year leaving only 152 days of sun so tell me, do they, too cancel on rainy days. This "policy" they have put in place is absurd. P.S. the way I'm living, it's raining everyday. read more

I went in on a Friday morning around 9 a.m.. because I had an appointment, I only had to wait about five minutes before seeing someone. The people who didn't have an appointment we're in a separate line, and I would estimate that there wait time was at least 30 minutes. And they're standing the whole time mind you. Worst DMV in the world had to go back 3 times to help a friend of mine with her driving test. They never told us anything like if it is your car you can't even go only the person being tested! When I started to ask questions about the legality and responsibilities of the Licensed driver and or insurance liability issues because the driver is unlicensed and uninsured and the staff got nasty and rude. What can I say, it's the DMV. It's dirty, it's gross, the chairs are too close together and the rows all face each other so you have to stare the the people in front of you and then look away really quickly when they look at you, it's so awkward and uncomfortable. They laugh in the face of customer service and helpful information can be found more readily in the bathroom walls than from one of the people working the windows. The woman I spoke with gave me a phone number to call when I had a question about my registration for my vehicle. I tried to explain to her that she worked for the DMV, the end all be all of anything related to driving your vehicle. Super Improved Location! Great and Fast Service! We received 2 notifications for license suspension after we changed insurance companies to Geico and apparently the state thought that 2 of our 9 insured vehicles were somehow magically not insured... ugh... I dreaded getting it sorted out.... We arrived to a pretty full parking lot adding to my trepidation of entering the MVD facility in fear of wasting an entire Friday... FEARS UNFOUNDED! The blonde lady at the front desk didn't even make us get a number, she fixed it all in less than 5 minutes and had us on the way! OUTSTANDING SERVICE! I was so excited to get done so quickly at a government office it was amazing! They have also changed the entire layout adn removed the chairs and better organized for efficiency. This is the first MVD that we have not spent 2 hours in getting served. It has a system that allows you to get in and out faster. On the downside you wait in line at the window we were sent to but you are standing for about 10 minutes(Hard on seniors) but at least we weren't seating with 100 people waiting for their number to called! read more

I was here to just change my license over from California to Arizona and compared to what I'm used to this was outstanding. It took only about 15 minutes to get all the paperwork done, new photo done, and all the processing to be completed. I'm sure other things may take longer of course but just the fact I was able to walk in, speak to someone immediately, and be already in the process of getting what I needed done worked on was great. The staff also didn't come off as rude at all. Contrary to some other reviews - this is actually NOT what you'd expect from "any state motor vehicle department" because that's clearly being said by people who have never actually dealt with these places outside of Arizona. In CA the DMV (MVD) would, for ANYTHING, take you up to 6+ hours of waiting just to even be seen by a person who would yell at you about how you're bothering them and they aren't who you need to see and that you need to see someone else and wait 3 more hours for them then come the next day and wait 4 more hours to actually see them because you couldn't see them the prior day as they closed. It was also always cramped and full of the worst kinds of people and plenty of them sick as well. This place in comparison is a miracle. read more

I moved from another state and needed to register my vehicle. I anticipated having to wait which was fine but was told I needed an emissions testing since the vehicle is new to AZ. I was advised to take it for the test and to come back and let them know that i was already here (show them the paperwork I was provided) and I wouldn't have to wait in line again.... literally my emissions testing was less than 5 minutes.... they were WRONG. You have to wait AGAIN! The people up front are so rude. So needless to say I had to wait in line AGAIN, even though I was already here less than an hour ago. I have only been to three dmv/adot locations in Arizona. Chandler, Flagstaff and last but not least... mesas delightful location. :| I have came to this location maybe 2-3 times and every time I hate it more and more. Why I came here a couple days ago? Because of the distance...Closer for sure or somewhat I guess. This most recent visit was only to show proof of insurance. Usually I try to wake up an hour and a half to two hours before opening time to beat the DELIGHTFUL line that practically curves around the whole inner building. Nice right? Waiting a solid 30-45 minutes to get to where numbers are given to show proof and they did it right there no number given. I got insanely lucky that I did not have to wait an extra 2 hours or so to wait. Thank god...Never again! read more

I like this particular MVD. It's newer, cleaner, and less crowded than many others. They use the same "now serving" system as the others I have seen, and it seems to work. As with the others, getting your assigned number usually takes some time because there is almost always a line. Today the line went out the door. Fortunately it wasn't too hot. One oddity was when we got to our window when we were called, the person looked at our stuff and then told us to go to a different window. She walked our stuff over to the other person (and we were next after they finished with their customer), but it was still odd that the person assigned to deal with our number couldn't do it for some reason. read more

As usual, huge line just to get past the two ladies gate keeping, even though there's not much going on in the actual room. It doesn't help to have several super slow people do eye exams at the same time - four of them have now tied up one of the two reps for 15 minutes. If they are that slow taking a 20 second eye test, they probably shouldn't drive to begin with. There must be a better way to triage this - what they have now clearly doesn't work. But, probably no one really cares. Back a few months later. The two slow moving gate keeper ladies are still there, and the line is even longer. Between them taking photographs and doing eye tests, no wonder it moves so slowly!! read more

I am not a fan of DMVs as I am from California and most of them are awful. However, coming into this locations MVD, it was efficient and quick. I think I was inside for a total of 30 minutes but there was a line to talk to someone about where to go. After speaking to her, she pointed me to the correct area. We waited and within 10 minutes, we were sitting done at a desk. We called ahead to see what paperwork we needed but it was unbelievably fast and painless. read more

This is about what you expect from any state motor vehicle department. All the employees are not motivated, most hate their job (some even said so when asked), and they seem to find joy it causing havoc in your life. I just moved from Colorado and followed the rules as stated online. However, the lady would not accept my ID (even though the internet said that's what I needed). Her final response was "the internet may say that but you won't get a license until you have (different forms of ID)". Oh well, it was no better than I expected it to be. Visited this DMV site on 1/6/22 via an appt. When I get in line, who are being called first, the 'Walk-ins'. About 4 WIs are called before I am called to a desk. I explained that I needed to renew my DL and was interested in a travel ID. Then I was told what documents were needed and I didn't have them. I opted for a regular DL, specifically stating that I wanted my mailing and physical address on it. The female staff stated, "that can be done". When I received the temp. DL copy, after paying $10.00, it only had the physical address listed and I questioned it. Was told then that only one address could be used so then I stated that the mailing address needed to be used on the DL. Signed the paperwork again, received the temp. DL and told that this was now a duplicate DL so I have to pay $12.00. How annoying!! I told the female staff that it would have been good to know all this info BEFORE I paid the additional $12.00. Then she states that the travel ID would only have the physical address listed! Ugh!! read more
