We had a very pleasant meal here with some good friends during our brief trip to Philadelphia. They suggested this place because they are familiar with one of the chefs, and we're always up for a new Asian fusion dining experience. We were seated right at our reservation time on the second level. We appreciated the bright lighting that seems to be lacking in a lot of restaurants these days. Our server greeted us warmly, took our drinks order, and gave us plenty of time to consider the menu as we caught up with each other. There are certainly a lot of different ways you can go here. They have an interesting array of signature rolls plus more traditional rolls, nigiri, and sashimi platters, but also a nice selection of appetizers, noodle and rice dishes, salads, entrees, and even Italian-style pastas. We ended choosing a selection of appetizers and rolls. Cucumber seaweed salad - ponzu dressing with a spicy aioli, this was fresh and crispy and quite good Crispy chicken bao buns - the mantou was soft and fluffy and the chicken was nicely flavored and worked well with the slaw/relish served on the side, but we would have much preferred pork belly instead of chicken Calamari - served with a yuzu aioli, this was a little disappointing because the calamari wasn't as crispy as we had hoped Tuna crispy rice - thin slices of tuna sashimi that you put on a round fried rice cake and top with a salsa. Interesting concept, but the salsa really didn't really seem to fit with dish. It was just a bit too spicy and overwhelmed the tuna, which was also a bit too thin to take center stage shishito peppers - light tempura batter and dipped in a garlic yuzu aioli, this was quite a tasty dish Salmon Samurai and Media Maki rolls - these were unexpectedly large - they seemed to be double rolls. The salmon roll had shrimp tempura and fresh mango that was quite nice. The Media maki had shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, cucumber, and asparagus, also very good - Pistachio opera cake - moist, complex in flavor, very delicious - Molten chocolate cake - rich, dense dark chocolate cake topped with mint gelato and served with a berry compote. My favorite dessert of the evening. - Pot de creme - thick, almost frosting-consistency cream topped with berries and crunchy topping. This was almost too much sweetness and I think that a slightly lighter consistency would have been nice, but I still ate more than my share In addition to a varied menu, they have a fine selection of beers, wines, cocktails, sakes, and Japanese whiskey. Our server was quite friendly and helpful. We were allowed plenty of time to chat after our meal, and we ended up being the last party to leave the dining room. What happened to Azie. Just like most other restaurants in the area, the quality has been in steady decline for years. This most recent visit was the worst. The service was friendly and prompt -- no issues there. But the food. Yikes. Kobe beef hot rock tasted really low quality. Shrimp tempura roll was tasteless and crunchy in a disgusting way. Truffle fries used to be upscale but now they are just fat greasy fries with truffle powder dusted on. My salad with "grilled shrimp" came with small, chewy, and overly salted sautéed shrimp. We've given this place a few tries recently because there are not that many good restaurants left in Media and we didn't want to cross another one off the list , but we're done after this visit. read more

Valentine's day dinner! I was sad when the Azie in Villanova closed and glad there was a sister restaurant in Media. Reservations on RESY. Arrived on time and seated right a way. The restaurant was full - modern decor - climbed up step to the top floor and seated in a back corner- felt cozy and private with a few tables seating. Water severed quickly and the waitress came by a few minutes later. Ordered Sake warm carafe and drink came. Shortly dumplings were served- perfectly cooked. Then udon soup with tempura on the side ( like not having it mushy in the soup) . The batter for tempura is very authentic. They could have thrown in a few slices of fish cake - soup looked bland . Next the Sashimi platter - disappointed - in the presentation compared to the Azie in Villanova that had the fish on ice and plenty of daikon - the fish was perfectly cut as if in Japan and tasted fresh and delicious. Poke bowl - ordered Salmon without jalapeños/ and came with Tuna WITH jalapeños- booo - the server walked away fast before we noticed. We waited about 10 minutes and our waitress never came to check so we-just ate it My water was empty and my sake was finished- waitress did not check- finally came by to add water. I wanted to love this place as there's not many great sushi spots around, but this really fell short. Majority of the food was quite bland. The only thing that was very flavorful was the Tempura sweet potatoes. Kobe beef nachos - hard fail. Beef was so hard and the entire dish was bland. There was also barely any beef Sashimi platter - this dish was fresh but the pieces were small compared to other places. Calamari - this would actually be a hit if they used some seasoning. The Calamari was big pieces and lightly battered (which I love), but not even the sauces they gave made it taste better Udon soup - this was actually pretty decent. Broth was actually seasoned. This place is so beautiful! I went on a nice warm spring day and it was so lovely to sit by the window on lower or upper level. It was so nice to watch the trolley come down the main street. It looks like they have a lot of good seafood and I will be back to try it but I just came in for a cocktail and desert. The creme brulee was delicious and I had a bourbon cocktail that was just right. Very friendly atmosphere and I saw some interesting dishes like what appeared to be a nice cut of beef grilled directly at your table with a hot rock? I have visited for dinner as well as BRUNCH here. The atmosphere is slick and lounge-like. I have seen parties of 20 enjoy a ladies' brunch here. It seemed to be a success. The mimosas are a nice touch! With fresh fruit, smoked salmon, sushi and maki coming out of the kitchen and onto the buffet. Sundays here are a brunch-time hit and also include standard American breakfast fare such as sausages, french toast, pancakes. Dinner is a la cart and has never disappointed. I started with an appetizer, Azie Shrimp Tempura, and a Pom Pop, prosecco topped off with pomegranate juice, and my entree was the drunken noodles, with kobe beef. The tempura shrimp were coated with midly spicy and sweet sauce. The pom pop was a great combination with the sparkling wine and a hint of sweetness from the pomegranate juice. The drunken noodles were packed with veggies and flavorful kobe beef. The restaurant has the best ambiance, lighting, decor, and comfortable seating. A spacious bar area. Hands down the best happy hour in the area. They have a big menu but make sure you ask for happy hour when you arrive. I believe you can only order off of the menu when you sit in the bar area. I've also not been given the happy hour menu in the bar area and have had to ask for it. Sushi and wings are really good. Drinks are also awesome! This is our go-to happy hour spot. They do get busy and the service can be a little mixed as a result. read more

Loved everything about Azie in Media. All four of used had nothing but praise for our server I'm sorry I don't remember your name, I should have because you were a standout. Our server was a sandy blonde, with black or dark nail polish. They served us upstairs Friday November 11th about 6:30. This server offered excellent suggestions and was very pleasant! The decor is modern and classy. When you take a view from the upstairs dining room down onto the main floor there is a beautiful modern chandelier centerpiece. I was surprised to find a Sunday brunch menu (kinda rare for Japanese/sushi restaurants I think?) and when I skimmed it, it was an easy YES. Between 4 people, we shared 2 Japanese fried chicken & waffles, 2 udon noodle bowls, a breakfast sushi roll and a sushi roll set off the regular lunch menu. I loved the udon dish and the breakfast sushi roll - such basic Japanese-American fusion dishes that I feel like should be more common in all brunch menus?? The only critique I have regarding these dishes is that they both had the same "japanese styled sausage" in them, which is not right... I believe they were more italian style? Or perhaps a snappy, Oscar Mayer type sausage? All the other ingredients were great, we were just not a fan of the sausages and think the dishes would've been so much better if they had used something like spam instead. We had been enjoying the noodles and sushi that we didn't realize the chicken & waffles were taking a bit longer until our server came over to apologize. I think there was a mishap in the kitchen, but it didn't take long for them to come out shortly after. The 2 dishes ended up getting comped for us which was totally unnecessary (so we left a huge tip!) - I've definitely experienced worse in restaurants so we were surprised to see how generous our server/management(?) was. Definitely not the same ambiance as the Villanova one that closed unfortunately. Our waiter was fantastic though when I went for my friend's birthday during Happy Hour. Ironically, all of the food was delicious except for the sushi- it didn't taste right, not fresh or something. But the wings were so good and the tater tots. Highly recommend the dumplings too but honestly? Skip the sushi, I surprised I didn't get poisoned by that spicy tuna because it tasted wrong. The bartender was all alone, and clearly needed help from her team but the manager and front-of-house staff seemed comfortable neglecting a messy bar and waiting customers. Looking for a good sushi spot in Media, this place will check the box. They have a big menu with a myriad of options for the non-sushi eaters and a pretty good sake list for the sake drinkers. Azie is one of my favorite restaurants in the area! I haven't been here since before COVID but my family and I got takeout here recently for my birthday. The food here is consistently delicious. Our food was fresh, well-prepared, and we had big servings. I got their miso soup to start which was a little more earthy and smoky than others I have tried -- it was excellent. For my main dish I had two sushi rolls. Overall delicious, although one piece of fish was a bit chewy and there was a little more rice to fish ratio than I prefer. That said, the flavors were great! My mom and aunt got poke bowls. They enjoyed them overall, with nice, fresh fish, veggies, and rice, although the rice was a little dry and seemed leftover, and the ratio of rice to other parts of the dish was a little much. The dressings were delicious! My stepfather got seabass which looked fresh and absolutely wonderful. The edamame and seaweed salad to start were fine. The biggest concern we had was with the service. We ordered curbside and called when we arrived (on time) and we were told our food wasn't ready yet. We waited in the car for 15 minutes as we were told our food would come out when it was ready. My mom finally went in and it turns out our food had just been sitting on a counter. No apology, no excuse. Otherwise I would definitely recommend trying this place out! read more

Azie is not what it used to be. Service at the bar was awful. The bar was a mess and bartender did not check on us at all. We waited so long for drinks. Although she was the only one there and working the service bar too, none of her coworkers came to help. The manager walked around along with the hostesses and other servers standing around just watching the bartender struggle. All while the bar was covered in empty glasses and plates. Really bad teamwork here. It was really sad to see as Azie used to be one of my favorites in the area. Sushi tasted like it was pre rolled and food tasted almost microwaved. Tucked at a convenient location neighboring a variety of shops and boutiques, this place stands out with great food and a calm atmosphere. They have good variety of alcohol, cocktails, sushi and other offerings -even some unique stuff for vegans which are actually delicious. *2.5 stars* Asian fusion restaurants are always a hit or miss for me, but I decided to give Azie a try! I took my parents here for a lovely Friday night dinner and I was pleasantly surprised that it was an upscale-casual restaurant. Thank goodness we came early because it began to get packed around 6:30 PM. We were seated upstairs, and it looks like downstairs is reserved for bar seating and happy hour (note: happy hour is only for the bar, not dine-in!). Service: our waitress was so lovely and attentive! I gave 1 more star because of her. She recommended my cocktail (Azie Blue) and it was a sweet, sour concoction that was perfect for me! Not too strong, but had a perfect kick. I ordered another round! Appetizers: we ordered the tempura calamari, truffle fries, and shrimp tempura roll. The calamari was crispy but wasn't seasoned well, but the sauces on the side (garlic aioli and sweet/sour sauce) gave it some flavor. The truffle fries should've been called "Parmesan fries" because I barely tasted the truffles but had a mouthful of Parmesan! Not a bad thing, but I love truffles so I was a bit disappointed here. The roll was pretty standard, nothing memorable. Entrees: my halibut was cooked perfectly, but my risotto was definitely not. Sadly, the risotto was undercooked and the kimchi flavor was not prominent. I saw bits and pieces of mushroom, but couldn't really taste the enoki or shiitake. The crab chowder sauce was interesting, it gave the halibut a unique umami flavor. My dad enjoyed his salmon, but his mashed yams was a bit colder than room temperature. He didn't seem to mind but that was a bit strange to me. My mom was disappointed in her udon. The dashi broth lacked any flavor, seasonings, no umami, nothing. She doused the broth with sriracha and still nothing. The udon noodles were cooked perfectly, though. The tempura wasn't too crunchy and there was only 1 shrimp tempura, so my mom ended up finishing my dinner and disregarding hers. All in all, my favorite parts of the meal were my cocktail, my dad's Malbec, and the halibut (just the halibut). I wished the food was as great as the restaurant's interior decor. read more

The staff was super welcoming and the atmosphere is clean and modern. The food was incredible! I had shrimp pad Thai. It was amazing and very generous portion sizes. Very modern vibes and the cocktail menu was well curated. Our waiter was super nice, funny, and tended to us well. We overall had a very nice time. Now for the food, it just didn't live up to the potential for me. Most of our sushi rolls were very good, but there were about 2 that just weren't. One was smothered in sauce (and trust me I am a sauce girl, this was over the top) and the other was incredibly salty. The desert was just ok, not bad, but didn't really wow me. We went to Azie as a family - 4 adults and 2 young kids. Since we arrived at 11 when service started the buffet was displayed perfectly and looked great. It was a mix of Asian food , breakfast items and general buffet standards. I was mostly interested in the Asian choices and loaded my plate with their dumplings, pad Thai, sushi and several fish dishes. The food was good but some of the dishes were definitely not heated enough. The chilled shrimp, in fact the whole buffet were presented beautifully. We had a big group (10 ppl) and it was a wednesday night during the summer so dining under the stars was taking place. The espresso martini was excellent and then we moved on to wine.We all ordered starters and mains and it ended up being around 75 per person after everything was said and done. I found that extremely reasonable for the amount of food we got. I had the sweet potato roll and the unagi roll. I would say the sweet potato roll is more suitable for dessert. Had a great time here on a Thursday evening. Started at the bar waiting for friends and took advantage of the very nice happy hour that went til 630- food and drink both. I went with the Pinot noir but friends tried the pomegranate margarita and cucumber sake Tini .. everyone enjoyed! For dinner we tried a variety of things among us. I did the avocado salad with tofu added and a veggie roll. Also on the table -- other sushi rolls, tempura, poke bowl, and clay pot or whatever it's called. We all really enjoyed our choices! Hot tip: there is a solid variety of vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Grilled tofu can we added to any salad. Most menu sections have a yummy sounding veg option. I def want to return and try more stuff! One star lost to service ... our server was rather absent. We went a long while without water and a soda never arrived.
