This is my favorite Mexican place. Nice staff, fast service, food is good, and the drinks aren't bad either. I've tried lots of different items on the menu and have liked it all. The best drink they offer is either the huge Dos Equis on tap (under $4!) or the crazy margarita, which is a frozen jumbo margarita with a coronita in it. Ask for Francisco!!! read more

First impression was the guy who seats- barely listened to me when I asked if he had anyone who might be waiting- ran me to a table, tossed the menus on the table and without a word quickly walked off. Sorry seating is such a chore, buddy. Sat next to a bump out window with plants on it. Fake flowers, dirty, badly neglected live cacti and really dirty window. The server was efficient. Food was typical Tex mex. Chips were stale. I had chili poblano and chicken enchilada. Prices low. I might return except for the unfriendly, cold staff. I'll start with the margaritas because, let's be honest, that is the most important part of any cheap Mexican place. I ordered one of the large gold margaritas on the rock and it was pretty strong, I got a nice buzz off of one. The waiter kept repeating this one sentence like "Be easy ladies" or something of that nature, it was his signature phrase and after the margarita I found this to be hilarious. All I ordered was a chicken quesadilla off the appetizer menu and that with the chips and salsa was enough to fill me up. Their salsa is much better than other local Mexican places. Being from the South, my husband and I were used to great Mexican food. We'd given up hope before our first trip to Azteca! We found a great option not far from home. It's not much to look at from the road, but it's wonderful inside. Casual atmosphere. They have delicious cheap margaritas, dos xx on tap, and a wide variety of decently priced Mexican (American) staples. I recommend any of the large burritos or the fajita quesadilla. Service is always friendly and they treat you like a regular. Occasionally when they are very busy the service is slow, but not enough to ruin the experience. Stopped in with some friends on a Sunday evening. Truth is, food was so good one of our group suggested we return the following Sunday and do it again. So we did. And, once word got out even more friends showed up. That's all you need to know! I tried a Margarita ($4.95) and was glad I did. The salsa is also delicious. The cheese dip ($2.95) among the best. Servings are large and prices are not. You will probably end up taking some home. The Enchiladas Rancheras ($8.75, pulled pork over cheese enchiladas with guacamole salad) provided a full meal on Sunday and another one at home on Monday. The combination dinner ($7.50) filled me up. Recommend anything with their cheese in it. Pork and shrimp were also well received. While visiting a friend in Akron, they told me about this Cancun Cheesesteak that they had gotten at Azteca that was amazing. Perfectly cooked steak, seared onions, and cheese in a folded tortilla, lightly toasted and covered in cheese dip. It just sounded amazing. So, we decided to order them to go. My friend went and picked them up, along with a pitcher of peach margaritas. Now, let me just tell you, when he got back - the first thing I noticed is how much food you get!! It's a huge serving! Then,I tasted it, and realized no matter how big the serving was - it would never be enough. This thing is delicious, as were the margaritas. It comes with yellow rice, pico, lettuce, and sour cream. I added some of the rice and toppings to the steak, onions, and cheese and proceeded to stuff my face. Since then, I have taken other people. They all say the same thing about everything they order. We also always order the cheese dip which is really great as well. The only reason I took a star away (and really it should only be half a star) is because it can be kind of pricey, but honestly it is well worth it. So, if you are craving Mexican food, this place is a win. read more

This place is an absolute joke and totally disgusting. Funny ... I found them on the Yelp app, which "ironically" only showed the good reviews from 2017. So, imagine my surprise this morning when I log in to write an honest review and see so many bad reviews that are much more recent. Wish I had seen them first, as I would have never tried this place, and can only echo what has already been said. In short ... 1) The place was freezing! 2) We were a family of 7 (including 4 rather large men) and instead of seating us at a table with plenty of room (there were many available), they insisted on squeezing us into a booth meant to seat 6, max. 3) Salsa tasted like plain tomatoes. Even my 5 year old thought it sucked. Guac had no seasoning (salt, lime juice or anything!) and was so bland we ended up sending it back. 4) My husband ordered a margarita on the rocks which was a nuclear green color and tasted horrible. On the recommendation of the waitress I ordered their "best fruit flavored" mango margarita, which was so thick it was more of a mango puree than a margarita and yet, oddly, tasted like nothing. 5) Everyone at the table got their food delivered at different times, with my brother's meal not coming until we were already done eating. We were convinced they either forgot his order entirely or had a re-fire for some reason, but the waitress never informed us of any reason it was taking so long, despite us inquiring 3 times. She just kept telling us it was coming. My son's side of rice and beans came only after he finished his tacos and I never even got mine. 6) We ordered a variety of things from tacos, to chimichangas, to enchiladas and everyone's response was exactly the same. Bland, luke warm and just simply edible. What a disappointment. 7) Finally done with our less than satisfactory meal and we have to wait in a long line (10 people ahead of us!) just to pay!! I've eaten out a ton and have never seen anything like it. It was absolutely ridiculous!! Then, we get up there and there are signs everywhere ... on the "free" candy signs noting that you can only take one and then another sign clarifying that you can only take one. WTF? $0.25 for every other mint available ... it's unnecessary, tacky and highway robbery. Do yourself a favor and go to Taco Bell. You can get way better "Mexican food" there. read more

After moving here from the Southwest several years ago, we found ourselves very homesick for quality Mexican food until we discovered this place! This food is not bland - hooray! Honestly i was totally let down, the food was eh, not truly authentic Mexican, and not even amazing for Americanized Mexican. I lived less than a mile from Azteca so I was really happy to find out that their food is awesome. I struggled to find anything close to authentic Mexican in the greater Akron area.The service is great. They have live music on the weekends which is so much fun. They offer large portions of great food for a reasonable price. They even have drink specials. Having lived in CA for 2 decades, it's probably not fair to compare Mexican food from the 2 states. I haven't been to any other Mexican restaurants in Ohio, so I'm refraining from giving this place 1 star especially since I was told by many in the area that it is the best Mexican. The prices are good but, frankly, I thought the food was gross. Again, I've had the authentic stuff so who knows?...maybe this is the best there is. I will update when I try more Mexican places around here. EDIT (9/10): After trying two other places, I had to downgrade this to 1 star. Dont wanna be rude... But i haven't been here for years.....they gave the inside an upgrade cosmetically-- but the food went downhill. Carne adadas....not even steak...no flavor. My Mexican/Peruvian friend...got the enchiladas pollo... Again...zero flavor.... Rice was crunchy.. Showing it was old.... They obviously have NO conscience here because i would be embarrassed serving that food... Oh...and the guacamole ISNT real... I served it in my cafe...and i make it at home... This place has the worst breathing environment they use nasty air fresheners and no fresh air circulation. So when your eating your food you are also ingesting the air freshener in your digestive system instead of just your lungs. Any place that serves food but uses air freshener probably has a very dirty kitchen and it is always a bad sign. Air fresheners provide an unhealthy environment for the elderly, asthmatic, and migraine sufferers. read more

And when I came back and said I left my watch there on my table and the manager said he had no control over his bus boys and severs and they probably pocketed it. I'm not a huge drinker but they seem to have a pretty decent bar. The food is what you'd expect the food to be when you're paying $6.50 for a taco salad. The staff is fast and friendly. The decor is pretty typical. To be honest. It's the best I've found so far. And I've eaten here at least 8 times.... I know this because I had a card they'd punch every time I ordered. Once I had 7 punches, I got my 8th meal free (up to $6)!!!! My last taco salad only cost me $1.25!! And I'll probably fill up another card (or 5)!!! Here's the thing...it's not perfection. We're not in Mexico. But I love the guy who hands me my "taco salad to go". He loves me because my name is Emily and his son's name is Emilio. We have a laugh over it and he calls me "Mija" every time...which I love. And that's good enough for me. =) read more
