My experience here was amazing. To start, I am not from the area whatsoever. I couldn't find the storefront so I called the business. The gentleman explained exactly where to go and event came out of the door to help wave me in. I really appreciated the customer service. I dined on Sunday, February 26th around 12:30 p.m. and my waitress was wonderful. I believe her name started with a K. She was helpful without being overbearing. As a solo diner, she made me feel welcome and at-ease. I got the Combo #4 and added a pound of King Crab legs. I requested garlic butter with medium spice and added an egg. This all came with potatoes and corn and the food came out perfectly cooked and seasoned. I was pleasantly surprised that the egg was not overdone. I was surprised at the volume of crab I received. I got so much crab I was struggling to finish! My husband is sadly allergic to shellfish so when I eat it I am on my own. We loved this place even though it was our first time there. It was pretty quiet and didn't smell like a fishhouse. Stephanie was an amazing waitress. She is funny and silly and just fit our vibe. The sushi rolls we ordered were very clean and just tasted fresh. The seafood boils were very good. My wife said hers was spicy even though it was mild house juicy. Mine was medium Cajun style and it was fantastic. Perfect spice level for someone who just wants that sort of thing. Is it a little pricey but it was worth what we got. read more

So I do not know about the dine in experience but I spent $100 on two seafood boils to go and the only thing even remotely good was the white rice. All of the seafood was way overcooked and the seasoning was not even good. I have had many good seafood boils and this is NOT one of them. Maybe I caught an off night??? read more

My wife and I had the chance to try this place out for the first time tonight. We were clearly newbies but I did not know it existed. Whoa!!! Had snow crab legs and sushi there today. Alissa was our server and she was amazing! The food was very delicious. Crab legs were tender and juicy and the sushi was yummy as well. We came here and ordered a lot of fresh seafood. I got the perfect naruto roll, garden salad, butterfly roll, and soft shell crab appetizer. All were fresh, tasty, and filling. My coworker got the pound of head on shrimp and pound of crawfish cajun style. This was delicious and spicy too. Service was really nice as well. We went to the pickle festival and came to this place to eat.....big mistake. Appetizers were edible it was the fried crawfish tails, sorry no pic of those. We get to the meal, I had fish sandwich which was just breading on a bun w tomato lettuce and sauce, hubby got a boil lemon pepper there was NO FLAVOR crab wasn't crackable as it was mushy. The shrimp were raw, THEN the sushi was warm (we didn't order any sushi that should be served warm). When the waiter came we told him and he brings a CUP of lemon pepper powder for husbands boil bag and says MIX it in....what?? He never addressed sushi, fish !!!! Finally made it here and wish I had tried it before. I had corn fritters, fried calamari and edamame as appetizers and the Cajun shrimp boil for dinner. All were fabulous. I especially loved the dipping sauce that came with the calamari. Also had a great Long Island Ice Tea very tasty read more

Very busy when we came. Waitress was clearly trying to accommodate us. The drink I ordered tasted unappealing and I asked to have it changed. The food was served in an unconventional way and contrary to my request for a mild sauce, it was spicy. When we got the bill, I was charged for the returned drink but, I had a ride outside and was unable to address the charge. For eight dollars, I will not recommend this place or return. read more

My husband surprised me by taking me to Boiling House in downtown Akron for our 4th anniversary! I had never heard of the Boiling House so when the valet opened my car door in a construction zone on Exchange Street I was confused. "Where are we going?" A projection of light on the sidewalk - much like a Bat Signal - marked our path. We walked into a small, modern bar/restaurant that is adjacent to the Rubber Ducks ball field. We had a seat at the bar... I ordered a Sauvignon Blanc and my husband ordered a Sapporo. It was mid-week so the restaurant was not crowded; we didn't wait long for a table. We ordered a japanese roll as an appetizer - which was amazing. But we were dining at (what I would perceive as) a Louisiana-type restaurant... this confused me. I LOVE food - I especially love to try different types of food. This restaurant seemed to be on the fence as far as what they want to portray as a theme. Should a restaurant owner sink money into providing fresh sushi while trying to serve seafood delicacies like crawfish? I vote for the latter. As ordered, we were presented with bags of crawfish and clams and crabs and red-skin potatoes. I dumped my bag into a heap on a plastic cafeteria tray - enough for both of us to share... holy moley! The fragrance of Louisiana spices mixed with the briny scent of the sea made my mouth water before I even tasted the food! The servings were plentiful, delicious and messy! The seafood was fresh and tasty and my husband showed me how to eat crawfish... yay for me! I usually enjoy dining here however tonight the paper that was on the table Kept sliding off and eventually my drinks fell off onto the floor and spilled my water and alcoholic beverage The staff cleaned up and replaced my water but didn't mention the alcoholic beverage that was spilled all over my sweater and floor. I only took one sip before it fell. I asked if I can have another drink since it spilled they said they would bring another and charged me for it. It wasn't so much about paying for it but the fact that they didn't even acknowledge that it had spilled and asked if I wanted another one. I had to say something about it. Disappointed that they didn't care enough to acknowledge it. I paid my bill and the waitress never came back with my receipt. I paid for 2 drinks and only drank part of the 2nd one. After the spill was cleaned up, it was broken glass all over the floor. I didn't realize as they were cleaning it up but as I was placing Chelle from my food in the bucket on the table they have put the broken glasses in my bucket I could've cut my fingers because I didn't even know that they did that. I feel like that was unsafe . The food was ok but not what I normally experienced. Most places would at least have replaced it or gave me a reason why they didn't. Normally with a negative experience I just would never come back but wanted to give a chance for an explanation or to make it right. A conversation with a manager would have been nice but no one even came back to my table. read more

I have been to almost all the seafood boils in the area of Cuyahoga county. I was out towards this area and decided to try. When I walked in the smell of seafood was so strong I almost didn't order. My water glass was dirty with specks of black things stuck on the inside. I ordered the crab boil and was disappointed because the meat tasted over boiled like chewy. The shells were a strange consistency that were super flexible and hard to crack even with the tools. I tasted the potato and omg I never thought I would not like a potato. Usually it's a plain creamy taste with the butter sauce. It was bitter. The corn was ok but was soft and looked like it was cooked hours ago. Server was super polite and accommodating. read more

The garlic butter with medium level spice was the perfect combination of heat and garlic. It comes with corn and a potato which both were good. We also tried some sushi. My husband liked it, I thought it was sub par. Kind of fishy... eh. We tried the fried crawfish too, and it was kind of bland. It came with a spicy mayo which was good. They had a few beers on draft to choose from, as well as teas and coke products. Their bar is small, and they have a small dining room area so i could see it getting crowded fast. Valet is across the street on Exchange which is kind of weird... and it's $5 cash to the valet attendant. Service was decent, and friendly. The decor is kind of bland, it's a casual atmosphere. Small islands off the coast of the African continent, and far away Eastern European towns so small they barely warrant a dot on a map. I have had crabs many times, and have gotten crabs many times during my travels. I've gotten crabs in sleepy Mediterranean seaports, and at restaurants perched high above the craggy rocks of cold and unforgiving oceans. But I can say with truth in my heart that some of the best crabs I've ever had have been in this unlikely spot in Akron Ohio. I'm a fan of boiled seafood, and I am not easy to please. But the boiled seafood here is absolutely delicious. The portions are large, and available on several spice types and heat levels. I prefer Cajun, while my partner prefers house juicy. The corn fritters here are to die for! And the sushi is very good as well. Service is always friendly and prompt. While there are many menu options, I always go straight for the boiled combos. With portions large enough to share, you don't need to be shellfish. So put on your bib, slide your hands into the provided gloves, and dig in! read more

I have to update my review from 2 years ago. Since they have changed ownership this place went from a 5 star to a 2 star. Every time I order which is the same thing snow crab they are horrible. The crab quality is horrendous. They are spindley. This crab never has any meat in it bc it the tiny little legs. They also over cook it every time I get it. The last time it was so over cooked the meat would not come out and was rubbery. The spice level is always inconsistent. The corn is a joke it's horrible frozen corn never fresh even when corn is in season. It's so soggy from being over cooked. I always have gotten carry out and food was great. Now it's a totally different. Who wants to drive back to get new food? So I just decided I'm not going there anymore. This food is not cheap. Please give people what they are paying for. Not the worst crab available. My family has said the sushi has not been as good as in the past year. There are many places to get this type of food. You should give customers good food cooked properly. It saddens me that this place is what it is. Always different staff not like before when Tiffany owned this place. I know recommend other places for crab boils instead of BH. I sent many of my friends there who also said the quality has changed. Out-Standing! My best friend and I went spur of the moment and we both ordered lemon pepper snow crab legs and shrimp with corn on the cob (plus a lobster tail). We both ate like it was our last meal on Earth. It was so good. The corn was the best I've ever had - especially when left soaking in that juice. It was delicious - OMG - great flavor. We ordered a pound of the snow crab legs with a la carte sausage and head on shrimp. FANTASTIC! We chose the garlic butter and mild seasoning which was perfect because the the a andouille sausage hit a little kick to it but not at all overwhelming. The place was a bit more upscale than I was expecting with me just wearing shorts and a t-shirt and all for lunch but... no worries I was treated with a smile! So the original location has closed and this is the new location. Much better area but it sucks that it's downtown. Since my initial review, the seasoning as gotten better and the insides do have flavor now unlike before. My second visit was a carry out at the old location. My most recent visit was at the new location. Let me just say, I hate going downtown and dealing with parking. The location is next to Bricco and pretty easy to get to. Service. Service sucked on my visit but it's probably because they just opened. It was awefully slow! Their server was super green as well though. I ordered 2#'s of craws and my buddy ordered 1# of craws and 1# of mussels. Mussels were, mussels. I'm positive they are the usual Chinese buffet brand just served in the "plastic bag" manner. The craws were disappointing. They came out STEAMING hot. Now I know it's supposed to be hot but let me explain. My buddy and I waited for like 30-40min for our order. That's ridiculously long in my honest opinion when it wasn't "PACKED". Here's why the craws sucked. I think they were overboiled. I asked later if these were live or frozen and was told these were frozen. Yeah, overcooked. Out of my 2#'s, I couldn't get a single straight pull of a full tail. It just broke every time I tried to pull the tail out. You shouldn't have to peel every tail apart to get the meat. I ain't no pro, but that much I do know. Over all, they have some fine tuning to do. It's nice to have a place like this here. As of this review, their phone doesn't work either so don't bother trying to call to place a order. If they were to offered sticky rice, I think that would really be the icing on the cake since their sauces are pretty good. Can't go wrong with that garlic butter. Seriously, so freaking delicious! I had the snow crab and he had the shrimp and we shared. You can pick different seasonings and spice levels. Your order is served on individual trays with your "bag" of food, and you get a bib and gloves to keep yourself clean! I wouldn't recommend wearing fancy clothes there though, it's definitely easy to make a mess there. But it's totally worth it. The only thing that was kinda weird is that they don't seem to be able to decide if they're a Cajun style seafood place, or a Japanese style sushi house. They should ignore the sushi and concentrate on the boiled seafood. There's plenty of other sushi restaurants in the area, but the boiled seafood is unique to the area. read more
