This place is so ridiculously good, it honestly doesn't make any sense. At first I didn't pay this restaurant. any mind because the previous restaurants here were mediocre in my opinion. Only when I went to New Orleans for the first time this year and developed a taste for its cuisine, then came back here and realized this gem was nearby. First time coming here and I was disappointed in the dish I ordered. I ordered in and took it home so I know that the food will cool down on the way but the quality and taste was not great. I ordered the Wing combo. I got Cajun wings and Cajun fries which came with 2 thin slices of bread. I also ordered bread pudding. The bread pudding was AMAZING! Best tasting bread pudding that I've ever had. My wings were really fatty underneath the breaded coat. My fries tasted like fish and hush puppies which makes me believe that fry everything in the same oil. I couldn't even finish my wings which only came in a 6 count and I barely touched my fries. Fantastic. We went on a day that they were only doing shrimp boils and fried catfish. That was totally fine. The catfish was huge, seasoned to perfection, and high quality pieces of fish. Hey all you foodies in and around Summit County... read this! One of my favorite events in Akron is PorchRokr in Highland Square and along with a neighborhood of great porch music came a discovery... Southern Comfort Kitchen. The owner, Will Matthews, is a previous football player for Kent State and had a food truck in Kent that was so successful he was able to open a restaurant/take-out in Highland Square still called Southern Comfort Kitchen. After my date and I experienced overpriced not great food from the trucks, we ventured into this place during the rain. Am I glad I did!! And all I can say is this food hit the spot with deep Cajun flavors that had harmony with all the ingredients. I had a Cajun hamburger that just settled in my mouth with comfort and delight. My date had the Po Boy Shrimp sandwich with hush puppies and was in his own heaven during the munching. I tried a hush puppy and immediately called for the chef to compliment his talent. It's a small strange diner with a pool table in the middle because right now he has a huge Kent State following. So I would recommend doing take-out. Although we had a blast getting wine from next door and sitting at his small bar watching the kids and talking to people about Will Matthews' wonderful food!! read more

I always saw the southern comfort kitchen food truck outside my science building every Thursday and always walked right by it. This Thursday I finally decided to get it. I got a side of crawfish Mac and Jambalaya. This was by far the best New Orleans style food I've had north of South Carolina. The Jambalaya was actually one of the best I've ever had and the Mac and cheese was great also. The service was also great as well and decently fair prices. If you see this truck I would recommend stopping whatever you're doing and getting some food. read more
