I recently tried Azu Peruvian Cuisine in Rockville and overall had a solid experience. I ordered the lomo saltado, the copa, and the chupe de langostinos. The lomo saltado was well executed. The beef was tender, the fries were crispy, and the classic mix of soy sauce, onions, and tomatoes gave it that authentic Peruvian flavor. The portion size was generous and satisfying. The chupe de langostinos stood out. It was rich, creamy, and packed with shrimp, which is important because many places skimp on seafood in this dish. It had a deep, comforting flavor and felt very traditional. The place itself is small and casual but welcoming, and the service was friendly. Overall, it's a good spot in Rockville if you're looking for authentic Peruvian flavors. I'd definitely come back to try more dishes. read more

Good size place with a small area as you as you walk-in and a larger space for at least 6 tables+ and a bar area with 4 stools. Nice set-up but they are still awaiting their liquor license (as of Jan. 2026), so they only serve non-alcoholic juices, sodas and water (for now) and hot teas on the weekends. The servers are very sweet and really know the food and menu. However, I did observe they are either a bit inexperienced, or the place is still getting things in order-- as they carry the food out without trays. I observed one server carrying a soup very close to the rim with bare hands. Now, for the food. An excellent array of varied dishes from different regions of Peruvian cuisine. My husband and I have tried our fair share of Peruvian food both in Peru and across various U.S. states. It's our go-to-food. The food here had its highs and lows. The Good & The Bad: Grilled octopus was delicious with a generous portion of everything served on sizzling skillet. Chorros à la chalaca (fresh mussels) served with pico. Both had a lovely presentation and savory flavors. Lomo saltado (sautéed beef tenderloin pieces) with fettuccine à la Huancaina served over a bed of fettuccine in a spicy cheese sauce (IYKYK). The Huancaina sauce was on point as was the sauce for the lomo--The (lomo) beef however was not. Beef was overcooked and tough to chew. And being a Peruvian spot the Classic Ceviche was a work of art but the flavor and the spice-level was lacking. Finally, I asked for a side of sauce and was charged for 2 oz. of sauce. They also tacked on a service charge fee for a table of two. Overall, the ambiance was nice and friendly but the food coming out of the kitchen did not warrant a $130 bill. Honestly, the prices are comparable for this kind of food. But I would expect better product and less hidden fees. I hope this small business will keep improving I'd love to give it another chance once they work out the kinks-- but judge for yourself! read more

This place is tucked away in a strip mall, the restaurant is on the smaller side so the set up isn't super conducive to larger groups. The food was excellent they had a nice variety of typical peruvian options. Service was pretty good although I had to remind the server that I was still waiting on my drink order. My husband got inka cola, and I ordered a limonada (loved it!). If I'm in the area I'd happily come back here again. Ceviche was excellent. Service was good and the recent addition is complete and nicely accommodating. We really enjoyed our dishes which included Luma Saltado and grilled Octopus. An extremely casual atmosphere. Had lively latino music in the background. Staff was very friendly. We had the following: Aji de gallina shredded chicken in a creamy yellow chilli pepper sauce. Comes with white rice, and 2 slices of an hard boiled egg, potatoes and served on a leaf of lettuce. This has mild flavors. I liked the creamines with the shredded chicken and potatoes. Jalen mixta deep fried fish, squid, and hrimp, with a pickled onions (sarsa criolla) and fried yuca. Tartar sauce and a spicy sauce on the side. The wasn't the best I've had. The seafood wasn't that great. The batter was crispy and the picked onions were good. The restaurant opened in 2024, around October. Tip. The restroom was next door where they are planning to expand. The parking lot was busy on a Saturday afternoon due to the various shops/restaurants nearby. I can see that parking might be hard to find sometimes. read more

Delicious Peruvian cuisine in Rockville! This is a new spot that has a ton of authentic Peruvian dishes to offer and exceptional service. I've been here twice and will make sure to continue visiting whenever I'm in the mood for some ceviche! The waitresses are always very sweet and attentive, providing great recommendations. Thus far, I've tried the ceviche classico and chicken causa, both of which were exceptional. The ceviche is fresh, spicy, and filling--the presentation on the plate is always phenomenal. We had dinner on a Sunday and the place look different from what I saw online. It is small and doesn't have a lot of tables. We got huancaina which we never tried before. It was very light. Not much flavor to it. My husband also got the chicken noodles soup which was the best dish out of everything we got. It was very aromatic and flavorful. For entrees, we had bistec a la pobre and tacu tacu lomo saltado. Both dishes were very salty. Lomo saltado dish was very saucy and I love saucy dishes but this was too much for me. My family and I are on a search of the best Peruvian Cuisine spot. This is not it. We had the Lomo Saltado, Papa Rellena and the Aeropuerto de Carne which were all delicious. If I ever decided to go back for some strange reason I'd have these dishes again. Now the Huancaina was not bad but it wasn't to our liking. Now the Pollada was very disappointing. Looks like it was over fried, the chicken hardly had any meat on it, more bones than anything. It tasted like it was a day old and it was thrown in the fryer. I honestly couldn't believe what I saw, especially when it is $20.99. I placed the order for take out and I would have gone back had it not been a drive to get there. read more

Summary: Their food is delicious, service is friendly and their location makes them very hard to see from the road so please support them. Since it's tucked away in the shopping center it's very easy to miss. Wife and I have seen their storefront for a while and decided to try them for dinner one night when the weather finally got warmer. I was craving ceviche and wanted to see what else was on their menu. We ordered the Ceviche Clasico (spicy/picante), Chaufa de Mariscos, and Duo Criollo (Seco a la Nortena and Aji de Gallina). The girl who took my order was kind enough to offer me some fried corn while I waited (less than 15 mins). There isn't a whole lot of seating inside so it may not be feasible if you have a party of people larger than 8 unless you're ok with sitting at separate tables. The ceviche tasted so fresh and each slice of fish was sashimi-thick making each bite immensely satisfying since I was expecting cubed chunks like I've had at other places. The lime sauce the ceviche marinates in was the perfect amount of spice where we could taste the heat but not overwhelming to the point that it overpowers the fish and lime. The Aji de Gallina was delicous. No notes. Creamy yellow sauce over shredded chicken was hearty and went great with the side of white rice. The Seco a la Nortena was also delicious but a bit salty for my taste. I won't hold this against them much though since I've tried this dish at other Peruvian restaurants and also found it salty so maybe that's how the dish is traditionally seasoned. Eating each bite mixed with rice made things better. The Chaufa was also delicious and came as a large enough portion for 2 meals alone. I only had a bite since this was my wife's order and I was busy eating my own but she said she really liked it. I would absolutely recommend Azu to everyone, especially their ceviche. Was too hungry and ate too fast to take pictures but will try to next time because we will definitely be back. read more

the food tastes good, but sometimes it's too salty, like yesterday the ceviche had so much salt you could see it at the bottom of the plate. the service surprises me more and more each time. a couple of weeks ago we went to eat, they seated us and took our order, and a few moments later a group of about 8 people arrived. the waitress told us she was going to move us to another table, she took our silverware and the complimentary corn nuts to the other table and seated the group at the table where we were sitting. i didn't think that was right. if they arrived after us, they should have waited for a table to become available, like in other restaurants. yesterday, 12/19/25, we ordered 3 meals at 12 pm by phone. the waitress told me 25 minutes. i arrived 45 minutes later, giving them plenty of time, and even then the order wasn't ready. she made me wait another 10 minutes, while people who arrived to order after me received their orders faster. the food is delicious, the portions are large, and the decorations are nice, but the customer service leaves much to be desired. la comida tiene buen sabor, aveces se pasan de sal, como ayer el ceviche tenia tanta sal que se veia en el fondo del plato. el servicio me sorprende cada vez mas, hace un par de semanas fuimos a comer, nos sentaron y nos tomaron la orden, y unos momentos desspues llego un grupo de unas 8 personas, la mesera nos dijo que nos iba a mover a otra mesa, se llevo los cubiertos, la canchita que dan a la otra mesa y sentó al grupo en la mesa en donde estabamos, eso no me parecio bien. si ellos llegaron despues de nosotros debieron esperar a que una mesa se desocupé, como en otros restaurantes. ayer 12/19/25 pedimos 3 menus a las 12pm por teléfono, la mesera me dijo 25 minutus, yo llegue 45 minutos despues, dandoles tiempo suficiente y aun asi la orden no estaba lista, me hizo esperar unos 10 minitos más, mientras tanto gente que llego a ordenar despues que yo le daban su orden mas rápido. la comoda es rica, las porciones son grandes, las decoraciones bonitas, pero el servicio al cliente da mucho que desear. read more

From the moment we stepped into AZU Peruvian Cuisine , we were enveloped in a warm, inviting atmosphere by Nicole and Andrea. The dimly lit space, adorned with Peruvian art felt both cozy and sophisticated. Our servers Nicole and Andrea, were attentive and friendly, guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm. We started with the chicharrón de pollo and French fries appetizer, frozen lemonade, chicha morada and the hot sauce. For our main course, I opted for this delicious fried fish topped with shrimp, and other seafoods with this amazing sauce and rice. We also got el Lomo Saltado, Jalea de marisco, y anticucho. We finished with alfajores and coffee. The entire experience was a amazing, from the impeccable service to the beautifully prepared dishes. I've been a big fan of Peruvian food for a long time, and I was told once that in Peru, they had places called "huarikes" that were little holes in the wall (sometimes people's houses!) that served outstanding food. This fits the bill perfectly. Azu is not much to look at, a divot in the middle of a hidden strip mall that's set most of the way back, and it has just a couple of unremarkable tables and virtually no ambience, but oh my gosh the food. The shrimp is head-on and tastes like it's been taken out of the ocean today. I had a mixed fried seafood meal that was well above average, which is a difficult thing to find in Rockville. The fried rice (chaufa) is actual cuisine, the best I've ever had, with hints of herbs strewn throughout. The ceviche is excellent. I had a complex and fascinating soup with multiple parts and optional spice levels, and it was delicious with all of the different tastes. The chocolate cake (not a usual Peruvian offering) is also delicious. I was less enchanted with the seco (beef), but it was fine. This place is absolutely worth a try. If you're still not sure, it's possible they're still offering their lunch special: two courses for $15, which, considering the quality of the food you get for this price, is absolutely worth highlighting. Assuming they're still offering it, this is not a bargain, it's an absolute steal. Go, and bring me back some fried fish. read more
