Pretty good dining experience overall given they offer a variety of options on their menu. I'm a big fan of their paella and the lomo Saltado. The paella is a huge portion that honestly could feed 2 people. Service is also quick and the staff check on their diners for beverage refills and experience. I also ordered their passion fruit mojito for any alcohol drinkers. You can barely taste the alcohol in it. I wouldn't say it is a formal restaurant at all but could potentially you could come in slightly more formal for a date night. My parents recommended this place and we came to celebrate my dad's birthday! We came on a Sunday night and called ahead to make a reservation for 6 pm for 4, although it probably wasn't needed. The menu has a decent number of options, not too overwhelming, however definitely suggest waiting to hear about the specials as there are many and none are on the menu. We ended up ordering the Ossobuco, Duck Breast, and Grilled Trout (all specials). Ossobuco: Super flavorful, very tender, comes with a rich silky sauce that you'll want to mix all of your rice with (comes with a side of white rice). Highly recommend! Duck Breast: Came in a cast iron pot over rice (almost like a paella) and a side of marinated red onion. Our server suggested mixing the onions into the rice which was a good move. I did wish there was more duck to rice, because the amount of rice it comes with is huge compared with the two pieces of duck which didn't have much meat on them. The rice quickly became the star of the dish, and I'd still recommend it even if you don't get much duck because of the rice. We ended up not even eating much of our white rice because of how good this rice was! The crispy bits at the bottom were excellent! Grilled Trout: Good, although nothing mindblowing. But definitely good to have a lighter, healthier dish to balance out everything else we ordered. The fish was flaky and cooked well. They brought out alfajores (Peruvian cookie) with a candle and sang happy birthday for my dad which was nice. Very sweet caramel filling on the inside and although not my type of dessert, it was very unique. We arrived on a Saturday and there was no wait. It's not a stand alone restaurant, it's located in a shopping center and parking might be limited when it's full. Luckily, there was no wait time when we arrived and our waitress took our order right away. The food did not take long to come out but after I ate the aji de gallina, I had some stomach pains. The flavor of the other plates were good but it can be pricey. The environment is nice and can be loud, if you want classical music with low lighting this place is not for you. The place was loud, the food is expensive and quite frankly does not live up to the expectations. I ordered the bistec and it looked dry and not even hot - as if it's been recycled. They just slapped in the tomato salad (without any dressing), rice and soggy fries. Oh and actually they didn't bring ketchup until I asked so let me actually floor the review to one star. Another excellent experience at La Limeña in Rockville. We started with several appetizers and everything was outstanding. The crab causa was fresh and well balanced, and the fish tiradito had great flavor with the perfect level of acidity. For the mains, the Mondonguito a la Italiana was excellent--tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The Jalea Mixta was crispy, generous, and served with fresh red onions, cancha, and a great tartar sauce. The Surtido juice was also delicious--fresh, refreshing, and perfectly blended. Lovely restaurant with great service and great food. We had dinner here on Saturday night, and it was fairly crowded, but there were some tables available and we were seated immediately. We ordered two appetizers and one entree. Everything was delicious. The first appetizer was: Pastel de Choclo con Carne, which was my favorite - so very delicious! I don't know if there were any raisins or boiled egg in it (versus how it was described on the menu); perhaps there were, but they were blended so thoroughly they left no trace. I think the second appetizer was Tamalito Verde Norteño con Pollo, although the meat inside was pork, not chicken (and it wasn't green). Perhaps it had a different name on the in-restaurant menu (which I regretfully did not photograph). Regardless, we enjoyed it. The entree was Aji De Gallina, one of our favorites from dining at other Peruvian restaurants. It was quite creamy. The dessert menu was intriguing, but we had overindulged (and still had leftovers to take home), so we did not partake. We do plan to come back again. My girlfriend ordered aji de gallina, which was very creamy. It's nothing I would order, but she likes food with sweetness. She also ordered flan for dessert. Aside from a great meal experience, the staff was even better. Our waiter, Jose, was a true pleasure. A hostess visited our table twice to make sure everything was going well. Their staff is immediately available upon a slight glance. The decor and atmosphere is cultural and very warm. This is truly a gem, hidden in a small strip mall. I'm not from the area, and my girlfriend mentioned this was once a hole in the wall that has been considerably upgraded. This is a really really really good restaurant with a superb staff. Let me start off - the ceviche here is amazing. Probably the best ceviche I've had in the area (specifically the mixto). That really starts off the rating at a 5 star. Next I tried the Lomo Saltado. They asked me how I want my steak and I said medium. My steak was like tires... I had to spit out a bunch of pieces. This is where they lost a star for me. Next reason they lose a star is the pricing... my chewy lomo was $25. I do not think it's worth $25. My ceviche was $20 and I can say it was worth that much considering how good it tasted. Started things off with the Ceviche mixto. The fish, calamari, & shrimp are incredibly fresh to the palette. They have just the right amount of lemon juice. However they put a comical amount of onions on top, made me question if I ordered ceviche or onions with a side of ceviche as an appetizer. Jokes aside, the seafood quality made up for it. 4/5 For the main entree, I ordered the Arroz con mariscos. This might be their best plate on the menu (in my opinion). It's their take on a Spanish paella with Peruvian flavors & spices. Rice was seasoned perfectly. The fish was surprisingly my favorite protein on the dish because it literally melts in the your mouth, it's buttery soft. Shrimp and calamari were also very good. The only underwhelming part were the clams and oysters, they simply didn't hit the mark for me. 4/5 For dessert I went with the vanilla flan. I was confused why it arrived with the tip cut off. As if someone took a bite from it. Out of the hundreds of flans I've tried in my life, it's always a perfect triangle or a circular mound shape. I'm assuming it's because of the mold used, but was disappointed none-the-less for $9 a slice arriving like this. The flan was creamy at the top but very curdled / lumpy for the bottom half. This is a clear sign it's been overcooked & not properly made. I should have said something but didn't feel like complaining. Disappointing dessert. 2/5 My parents and I ordered about 8 plates total (4 to eat there & 4 to go). What really grinded my gears is they wanted to charge us for some sauce cups to go. I'm sorry but if you don't charge for refilling the sauces while eating in, at the very least each to-go entree should include 1 of each sauce. They even wanted to charge my mom for a slice of lime with her water. Nickle & diming your customers is a huge turn off for me. Especially when we spent way beyond your average patron. We are big fans of Peruvian food and in the past the many many restaurants we have eaten at has been fantastic. At this restaurant, the drinks were great (we had non alcoholic and the mojito and the passion fruit drinks were great). The ceviche mixto was good too. But the disappointment came with the mains. The pork belly, which was recommended by the waitress, was such a disappointment. Essentially, it was a chunk of pork belly served on plate over run with potato and corn. The meat was dry, lacked flavor and was unappealing to eat. We had high expectations of the paella and that too was a disappointment due to the lack of flavor and consistency. The decor and service are really what kept this score from being in the basement. This really is a lovely place and, but for the bus/waiter asst. who was endlessly hovering near my table, the service was quite good. But the food. Not so much. I started with the garlic shrimp & yucca appetizer. While I wouldn't call them salad shrimp, I would categorize them as quite small. The accompanying yucca tasted like they sat in lukewarm oil for too long. My next dish was the osso buco special of the day. I live osso buco. This piece was quite large but was clearly being stored in a cold environment instead of in a warm sauce. Due to its size they were not able to reheat it correctly and half of it was scaldingly hot while the other half was cold (I don't mean room temperature). While the rice that came with it was nice, the sauce was a little ho-hum. I may try this place again but not with these two dishes. You've been warned. read more

Went here earlier today with a group of friends and I've to say I was very impressed. I got the beef heart and at first I was skeptical, but the meat was so flavorful and delicious (definitely want to get it again). The ceviche was great as well and the sauce was to die for. Lastly I had the Aeropuerto and it was a such a generous size and it was amazing eating the rest at home. The fried octopus was awesome and the seasoning was just perfect. We have passed this place many times going up and down the Pike over the years, and decided to stop in for lunch. It was reasonable. We were glad to be able to sit outside. The music was intolerably loud but the manager turned it down on our request. I had a sangria cup and my wife had a cup of red wine. She had the quinoa salad, which se found much too salty, but I enjoyed my aji de gallina-- and the quantity of food was ampe. Charging extra for bread struck us as a ripoff, especially because the bread was boring white bread; but the dips were nice on it. It was our first time visiting here on a Monday night. I love the ambiance and the spacing of the restaurant. It doesn't feel tight but rather cozy. The staff were very welcoming and were patient with us as we asked many questions on the menu. The food options are unique, and offered plenty of options for folks with any dietary preferences. I come from a restaurant background, my folks owned a successful Mexican restaurant. I have been to La Limena and would consider it among the top 10 percent of Latino restaurants in the area and I have lived here for 40 years. The food and drinks are superb and border on exceptional. However, the downside and no place is perfect. Someone asked me who was going there and knew to be prepared for a nice but appropriate costs. And it is. So I told her, on the tip traditionally you pay whatever you feel is merited but pre tax NOT post tax. I came to find out that the owner or a manager corrected that and said it was always a tip following post tax. Not worth debating. But it is pre tax not post.
