    Whole Squid
    Ari K.

It was take-out so I cannot speak for the atmosphere of the restaurant/what it was like indoors. Ordered the Premium Chirashi Bowl and the Whole Squid. Everything was packed perfectly and also had rubber bands on the packaging to keep it intact. The squid comes with two sauces; I liked the spicy one the most. The sashimi for the chirashi was placed in a separate tray than the rest of other ingredients along with the rice. A generous amount of soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi as well as disposable utensils (chopsticks) were provided. Overall very professional and efficient. The sashimi was fresh and tasted delicious. I wouldn't suggest getting the squid for take-out if you live far out, as it may cool down before delivery and get a bit rubbery. Overall good take-out!

My cousin and I are always on the hunt for good/affordable sushi and we were in the museum district searching up places nearby for lunch. We see Azuma and decided to give it a try. It was both our first time here. My cousin got a skewer combo and I got a sushi combo. Both were filling! My favorite piece of fish from the combo was the red snapper, very very soft and melted in your mouth. The restaurant was dark during the day which I didn't prefer and the prices were a tad high but not breaking the bank. Overall good experience!

I've been searching for a delivery sushi spot and I think I finally found it! Their menu was great and I settled for the Hama Chili Roll, Azuma Roll, and a miso shiru. I ordered during lunchtime so I was expecting it to take some time but between deciding what to order and it being dropped at my door, it took less than 1 hour! Talk about a quick catch ;-) Their to-go packaging was small and cute and maybe I got lucky with my delivery but this was the best looking delivery of sushi I've ever received! I can't wait to try this restaurant in person but I'll definitely be a delivery customer from now on!

One of my favorite stops in houston. The sushi is always phenomenal and the service is always friendly. If you stop by, make sure to get the crazy Irishman. Insanely good roll.

our server was awesome, the restaurant is clean and the sushi was fast and delicious! The fish was a perfect temperature to actually taste the fish! Great job and love it here!!

Great lunch specials. Consistent quality of sushi. Fresh sushi. Service was good although it did feel a little slow. I was there for lunch on a Friday on my break and it was rather busy.

A friend & I came in near happy hour. It was my first opportunity to try Azuma out. I went with the... 'Crazy Irishman Roll' | 6.9/10 It was good first try of Azuma; but I feel like there's better rolls on the menu. Service was quick! Ambiance - in the day, it was chill. Some families around us, but still an intimate place - probably good for dates!

We decided to try Azuma again because we enjoyed the take-out so much, but this time we dined in for lunch. Service was quick and efficient. Nice, cozy, natural restaurant with good space, not too crammed. Everything was fresh and delicious like we had expected. I got the Chirashi Bowl that came with the Wakame Udon and my husband got the Itamae Bento Box from the lunch menu. Great variety of fish in the chirashi bowl. The Wakame Udon was such a comforting (and size-able) bowl to have before the Chirashi. My husband's bento was jam-packed with goodies. Really good value, we were stuffed! We might have to dine in again for dinner!

Upon arrival, I was told that I could not sit at the sushi bar and eat. If I wanted to order I had to go sit in the common area of this dining hall. After this discussion, I said fine and asked for a menu. They then told me I had to get up and order at the register and view the menu glued to the counter. They took the order of a couple who sat down maybe 2 minutes before me in front of me. I will never come back to this place. They seem to be the last man standing in this dining hall, and with this kind of customer service, they won't last much longer. It's a shame because I love the food and I am a regular at handies and aiko as well. Won't be back to any of them.

I got the pan daiquiri as my drink to start and my friend got the herbed lavender lemonade. For food we shared the hamachi crudo, the chutoro nigri, the kanpachi nigiri, the A5 tartare, the kani handroll, The kinoko yasaimono, and the hot scallop dish to share. The pan daiquiri was SO good. The smokiness from the mezcal hits you first and then the sweet and creamy after taste takes over. It was so well mixed and I would highly recommend trying this if you are a mezcal lover like me. (9/10) The herbed lavender lemonade was too tangy and sweet for my liking. The lavender flavor get lost in the drink. It tasted like a typical lemonade, nothing special. (5/10) The hamachi crudo was so fresh and I really enjoyed the sweet and tangy broth. I'm not sure I would call it tom kha broth but it tasted good regardless and paired well with the tomatoes. (7.5/10) The chutoro nigiri was SO buttery and melt in your mouth delicious. I would definitely get this again. (8.8/10) The kanpachi nigiri was fresh and I enjoyed the sauce paired with it. It was my first time trying amberjack and I liked it. (7/10) The A5 tartare was super unique and well seasoned. There was plenty of tartare compared to the amount of milk bread you are given to eat it with. The uni, caviar, pate and waygu all mixed together was a decadent combination full of flavor. My only note was the contrast in temperatures that I did not love, the tartare came cold while the milk bread was warm. Overall, a very luxurious and tasty dish. (8/10) The kani handroll surpassed my expectations. Typically I don't go for crab first, but I did enjoy the flavors paired with the crab and the hand roll was well filled. (7.8/10) The kinoko roll (king trumpet mushroom roll) really surprised me. I was weary about getting this roll because I normally don't opt for vegan options, but this king mushroom was so well prepared and the sauce was so delicious that dare I say that I enjoyed this more than some of the fish/meat sushi rolls I've had in the past. (8/10) The hot scallop dish was one of the best bites of the night. The scallop was perfectly charred and cooked and the creamy polenta base with the umami salmon roe, with the fried red cabbage to add texture was amazing. I would definitely order this again. (9/10) Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Aiko and the food surpassed my expectations. I loved everything I tried and do want to come back to try more. The service was quick and helpful with the menu. Parking can be a bit tricky, but there are some free street parking spots around the plaza. The ambiance is definitely upscale and classy. It's a great place for a date! My only complaint was that I made a reservation for 2 at least a week in advance and upon arrival, though they had plenty of open tables, we were seated at the opposite end of a table that was already occupied. We were close enough to hear their entire conversation throughout dinner, and I just thought it was an odd experience because that had never happened to me before. Though it did not hinder me from enjoying the food I would have preferred to be seated at our own table.

GENERALIZED REVIEW:…read more Came here with a friend from theatre after a full run--he had this place recommended to him by another theatre friend, so we're just passing on the word. The plaza was a bit confusing to navigate, and I'm pretty sure if the place weren't full of Asian parents and their kids, it would've felt like the shadiest place ever because you have to enter from the back. Otherwise, the plaza had a lot of great-looking stores overall. My first go-to: I've loved drinking Kirin Light ever since I discovered it in Chicago. The flavor is literally so light, with a slight acidity that brightens up my meal. The sake here was frankly also delicious. I didn't order it, but my friend did, and they had it warmed. The flavor was soothing and subtle, almost like tea. It was exceptionally easy to drink, and the ocean-themed ceramicware was a beautiful touch. We ordered two rolls: the Shaggy Dog and the Truffalufagus (a fun tongue-twister). I personally chose the Truffalufagus (which is not fun to spell) because it seemed like the most unique dish on the menu, and I enjoyed it very much. What I liked most about it was that it was subtle yet impactful. I also loved the textures--from the internal crunch paired with the fresh jalapeño to the softness of the fish. I'm glad I gave this roll a shot, and I would be excited to try it again anytime. The Shaggy Dog was great, but it appealed less to my flavor profile. It was a little too rich and creamy for me. I recommended this place to my BF as a potential future date spot--I personally think he would like it... if he weren't the type to enjoy AYCE sushi so much. If they had more unique rolls, I would definitely come back just for those. I was tempted to order the Surf and Turf for this round, but I didn't want to seem like a glutton, hahaha.
