I can only speak for brunch service since I have never eaten dinner here. We went for Sunday brunch with their fixed menu for $17.95 including free mini bagels and unlimited mimosas, bloody marys. We thought "what a nice deal". We waited too long for our meals to be served to us. I ordered eggs benedict. My eggs were well under cooked and runny. My home fries looked like yesterday's leftover potato wedges just reheated. Plus wait staff was abismal, nowhere to be found at times. I am giving this place 2 stars only because if and when I ever eat here again, I can judge if the dinner service/food is better. read more

I always refused to go here because it is in a small town, where I went to High School. But I have to say I like the ambience.... nice place to go on a weekday after a long day! Food was okay.. not bad... not great... slightly over priced for the quality. I got the pulled bbq chicken which was okay... not as tender as it should... and the mash potatoes that came with it were rather plain. Been here a number of times. A great local watering hole. Caters to a more mature crowd, but if you're young with a mature mindset and a Type B personality, this is a wonderful place. Casual beer selection, even better liquor selection. The bartenders are excellent mixers and very friendly. Drinks are fairly priced. But the real beauty of this bar is you can just sit down, and have a nice conversation with someone you just met about life, work, family, love, etc.. The music doesn't drown out the conversation. And it's right next to the Bethpage train station, so if you live off the Main Line or any of the North branches, it's very accessible. This place is far from a hole-in-the-wall. Last night, "Olga the Terrible" was extremely rude to a large party of 15 in a reserved section.. Her quick nasty comments were uncalled for and unprofessional. I came here for an older relative's family gathering. I am the entirely wrong demographic for this type of place--a 30-something strict vegetarian who rarely drinks alcohol. It is definitely for the 55+crowd who enjoy a drink and lots of unhealthy meat-centered food while watching whatever sport is on or who want a couples' night out. The ambiance is okay, lots of dark woods, traditional pub feel, not noisy. The menu does not have a single item on it, though, that is vegetarian. Not one. Well, actually I thought there was one--the garden salad. I asked if the garden salad could be made into a "big salad" like the other "big salads" that were listed on the menu but which involved meat (Think Elaine from Seinfeld). No kidding, the waitress looked annoyed and said "I can bring you two small salads." To which I replied, exactly as in the Seinfeld episode, "Can you put the two small salads in a big bowl?" More looks of annoyance from the waitress. Unfortunately, my garden salad (while it was put in a bigger bowl) came topped with hoards of bacon. My non-vegetarian family members seemed pleased with their food, however. Clearly, I was out of my element. If you're like me, stay away. If you like your reubens and beer, this may be a good choice. read more

Terrible brunch. Definitely would not recommend. Had the fried chicken and waffles. I was expecting a warm, juicy, crispy piece of fried chicken. Instead what they served was a small, thin, dried out and soggy chicken cutlet. The waffle tasted like a frozen waffle and it was also over cooked and burnt in spots. I wouldn't serve a waffle like that in my kitchen never mind serving it to a customer in a restaurant paying $18 for it. read more

I yelped this place today as I had a 2 hour wait for my movie at a nearby theatre. My boyfriend and I went here for dinner, it was a good experience. From the moment we walked in we were greeted and seated, only a quick moment went by before being asked if we were ready to place a drink order. We ordered our food and it came out promptly. He had the fish and chips and I had a steak sandwich. Both of our meals were delicious to the end. The service was great, the food was good but the price was a bit high. The ambience was okay, the lighting was very poor and I kept smelling a stench of alcohol from the moment I went in. I would go back here if I had too, however it isn't a place I must go back to. I went here for the first this weekend. We had a reservation and we're seated right away. However, we waited almost an hour for our food to come. We were a group of five, but all we ordered were burgers, nothing very complicated. When the food did arrive, some of the orders were incorrect. I asked for sweet potato fries and got regular. My friend ask for no tomatoes and they were put on his burger anyway. We didn't complain because we had other places we wanted to get to. Besides all that, the food was actually pretty good. And the waitress did give us 15% for waiting for so long. Maybe I came on a bad day, because I usually hear good things about this place. Last years Mother's Day brunch was so wonderful that we went back today. Mistake. We arrived at 11:30 for an 11:30 seating and had to wait for our table. A gentleman at the bar asked if anyone knew we were waiting - yes. He introduced himself as the owner and we continued to wait. The food selections were dramatically reduced from last year and the taste mediocre. There were empty tables, but they were jammed together which made people at one table have to get up to let other patrons get up from their table. Place is not all that it is cracked to be. Vibrant bar Scene for happy hour after that business falls off. Went on a Thursday evening and dinning area was not that crowded. Staff appeared to be slightly overwhelmed alway a step behind. Drink orders were slow to come to the table. Apps were good, Fried zucchini and fried ravioli were a good start But down hill from there, Entrees were cold, as they were sitting in the kitchen for awhile before being served. Mashed potatoes and potato Pancakes as side dishes were cold. We would have told the waiteress but she was too busy with other tables.....overall not impressed, could have been a bad night... Nicest restaurant/bar in the area. Beautifully appointed dark oak interior. The menu has something for everyone. Pricing is fair. Food appears to be and tastes homemade. I have never had a bad meal. Sandwiches, burgers and wraps are usually my go to choice but if you want spend a bit more than that the Fajitas are the best I have ever had. Picked this place to meet up with family for brunch. Horrible nasty people except for the one young male waiter who waited on our table along with I think was the manager or the person who took our Groupon. She could care less had to constantly ask for things. Didn't say thank you when we left and didn't even ask how our food was. With that this all started when we asked to be seated. A lady with dark brown hair and glasses very nasty person. Didn't say hello just sat us because we ASKED to be sat. This person should not work in the customer service industry. Food was just ok. We've been going to this restaurant in this location for years and years. Why we keep on returning is a question. The grey haired waiter has almost always been assigned to us and he's getting progressively worse. The food is awful.... I ordered a medium hamburger and got a burnt one! The calamari app was raw and had about 8 pieces for $12.00!!!! The waiter plops the food down on our table (never asked if we wanted water btw) and never checked to see if we were satisfied! I went today with my sister for Brunch. I was extremely disappointed with the food. I ordered the Crab cakes Benedict. My poached eggs were very hard cooked, the English muffin was soggy (not toasted) and the hollandaise sauce was a cold mess of glue. The home fries were cold and not edible,(seemed days old). The waitress (I don't know her name, as she never introduced herself) did bring me new eggs, but by that time it was too late. My sister only ate half of her over done burger. Sweeney's has been a constant in Bethpage for years. Food has always been fair to good, but service has gone down consistently over the years. I think the staff needs to attend a class on customer service. Was there recently, skinny guy at podium barely acknowledged us . Brought us to a small table in the middle of 2 other tables right on top of each other. There were 2 booths open about 5 feet away from us. We asked skinny disinterested guy if we could sit at one of the booths, he said , while walking away from us "no? They're reserved. We sat down and ordered. Two minutes later another couple walked in they did not mention a reservation, and skinny guy brings them right to a booth. Five minutes later same thing happens again. They also didn't have a reservation. Waitress was okay, but never asked if we wanted another drink , probably because we were only drinking iced tea. Sweeneys needs to step it up. They're not the only restaurant on Broadway anymore. read more
