Came to b-side post workout for a nice bagel. There was plentiful parking close by but definitely expect to pay a few bucks sadly. For a Saturday morning there was a little line, but moved very quickly. There was seating both inside and outside and we opted for the outdoors seating. We both ordered a lox bagel and split a macadamia white chip cookie. The cookie was by far one of my most favorite white chocolate macadamia nut cookies ever. The lox bagel to me felt small and didn't have enough lox in it to constitute it's $15 price point. The bagel itself was great and had a nice flavor and baked well. Popped into b-side to kill some time in decatur and enjoy the gorgeous georgia weather. Wasn't expecting much but WOW this place really blew all expectations I had! We had a hot turkey + bacon bagel sandwich which was filled with yummies and was absolutely delicious. The bagel itself was a bit small and a little overpriced but still worth a shit. I'm a giant sucker for bagels. Always putting myself out there. In the south, people just don't seem to care about them that much. I'm continually searching for a lovely bagel that brings me back to my northeastern early adulthood. It's a recipe for heartbreak. Maybe I should tell my therapist or something. I first noticed b-side at the Freedom Farmer's Market, selling some nice baked goods. They had a few trays of wood-fired bagels, which seemed like a lovely concept but I was doing some Keto at the time and made a note to sneak one later when my wife wasn't looking. BS is a small breakfast spot run by the adjoining Deer and Dove. Interior vibe is kind of hip, honestly. There's a small bar and a few tables packed around. Crowd moves quickly so it's not really a laptop/work spot. Lots of elevated sandwiches available with other snacky stuff. They steeped me some hibiscus mint tea in a French press (relaxing on this cold, rainy day). Turns out this wood-fired thing is their central idea for the bagels. I ordered an everything with plain cream cheese. The baking method does give a nice color and confers a slightly smoky flavor. I prefer mine more heavily seasoned, honestly. The garlic, onion, salt (and whatever) should be punch-you-in-the-face assertive, better to cut the fattiness of the cream cheese or lox. I suspect these may be sprinkled after the boil instead of pressed into the seasoning? Who knows, I'm not a baker. I just eat 'em. read more

I visited twice once to stop in for a coffee and sit outside and the other time to work inside on a Friday. My first visit was very busy, but we got our coffee drinks and sat at the tables outside. My second visit. I ordered a latte with cinnamon and honey and was charged for two syrups making this latte pictured below nine dollars, I expected honey syrup with a sprinkle of cinnamon but I think they used two syrups because it was very sugary. I wish the sever would have clarified because this was a gross sugar bomb! This is a pretty fancy bagel place but I guess I expected more from the bagel. At 0930 it was pretty busy but we managed to find a seat Sunday morning. By 1030, there was a big line out the door. I had the b-cast beef tongue sandwich. This was a excellent $15 sandwich. I love beef tongue on anything though. The meat was tender and just the right amount of fat. The horseradish and sauerkraut was kind of mild but I understand. I think it was the roughly the same price as my wife's bagel but I found it to be better tasting and a better value. The lox bagel was ok. My wife was severely disappointed with it. She's a salmon and cream cheese connoisseur. I just thought the bagel was a little small and over toasted but if you like your bagel a little dark then that's fine. They serve good coffee that's piping hot. Would I come here again? Probably. I paid $19.71 for 2 cups of coffee and an egg,bacon and cheese sandwich. A bit pricey for me. Ambiance was good and cozy. The only drawback which is major for me was that we were the only family of color served with to-go-cups. Everyone else had regular coffee cups. My daughter asked for a regular coffee cup and it was made available. When my daughter spoke to the manager they said that they ran out of coffee cups. That's sounds like a poor excuse only because they should have expressed that to us before serving us and the coffee cup was made available when requested. This space is so cute. I was speaking with the cashier after ordering, and he had said the space used to be an alleyway, and the mural you see in the photos was originally on the building next to the left so they built around it to keep it incorporated (loved that). I ordered the Morning B-Side Egg on a Roll sandwich, and it was delicious! I'm a fan of runny eggs always, so this was right up my alley. My friend ordered a cappuccino and croissant and has equal praise. We really enjoyed the over ambiance, service, and quickness of our take out orders. Typically only get bagels in NY but a friend wanted a light breakfast before her flight out that we found this new spot that has recently opened in Decatur. Not sure if it just got rebranded, but Cakes and Ale the restaurant and the bakery/coffee shop has closed down and have now been replaced with this spot and a restaurant called Deer & the Dove, which the bakery/coffee shop is also affiliated with. That's too bad as we liked Cakes and Ale, but from our experience of this place, we're not all that upset. We all picked our own bagels, spread, and topping of our liking. I got the lox bagel with onion and chive spread on everything bagel. Husband got the same thing on the cheese bagel and the friend just got a plain bagel with smoked trout spread. We all enjoyed our bagels other than that it needed to be toasted slightly more since the bagels were still cold. Read some of the previous yelp reviews from others on how their bagels were slightly burnt that I think they're under-toasting on purpose but I would recommend that they find the magic time duration to toast our bagels. One reason that I had chosen this spot as opposed to another popular bagel shop was over the latte art. Latte art was impressive indeed but did feel like the latte needed little more milk for my liking. Interior looks identical to how it was previously when it was Cake & Ale bakery/cafe, but still loved the overall atmosphere. Oh and note, it is a small cafe that you may have to ask to sit with others. As for parking, it's your typical Decatur options of paid street/lot parking. We usually park in the lot next to Victory Sandwich Bar. Not sure if it was just a Sunday thing, but they only an option of 3 hour parking for $15 on the machine unless you use the app, which gave you an additional option of 30 minutes. Once that expires, you can re-reserve another 30 minutes if you don't plan on staying in the area for too long. Overall, good to know we found a good bagel shop in ATL. read more

This review is based on my experience with the barista, David. I only found this place because I heard he was working behind the bar and his skills behind the bar are on point. I've visited twice, and the first time the cappuccino was so good I ordered a second. They use Counter Culture Coffee's Farmhouse blend, which thankfully isn't a dark roast. David steams the milk perfectly, so not only is the milk perfect, the art is as well. Both times I've visited I've opted for a plain bagel with smoked trout. And I must say the smoked trout is pretty good, So good that I was looking forward to it on my second visit. read more

first of all, I went here at 8 AM on a Tuesday, there was one other person in there. It took me 20 minutes to get two bagels with cream cheese and an iced mocha. They also gave me the wrong order twice, one which was a BLT. Not even remotely close to a bagel. The service was also terrible, none of it felt friendly, and all of it was very forced. they were also playing 2000's Emo on full blast, which is a lot for Tuesday morning. saw a instagram reel, and saved to my bookmarks. finally got to stop in. tried the "B Side Lox" house cured smoked salmon, pickled onions, capers, plain cream cheese, on an everything bagel. Very good bagel! The bagel top side is almost over toasted, on all bagels I observed. I've had more generous servings of salmon at other places, for the price point. The cream cheese is smooth and creamy, and not dense, delicious. We ordered a Mocha, and an Americano...both decent. Service is fast paced, and nonchalant. It was an delicious blend of the typical sandwich ingredients, however the Bsauce set the goodness off! I didn't want anything too heavy; just enough to feel satisfied. This sandwich hit the spot. The Good: Covid measures on fleek. The service is amazing, awesome team at this place. Good bagels, better than emerald city, full stop. The cold brew is excellent- new favorite that I wish I could drink every day. The Medium: Will I go back? Yeah. I can't taste the lox spread over the overpowering salt-preserved (maybe pastrami style?) smoked salmon. So I'd like to at least taste the schmear before I opine. The Bad: Barely any schmear on the bagel. Smoked salmon was way too salty for me, some might enjoy this but it wasn't my flavor profile. We ordered an extra plain bagel with smoked trout schmear (being from Brooklyn my partner doesn't see this often so we had to try). Again super tiny amount of schmear, and what was there was basically chive cream cheese. I got a fingernail sliver of trout on one side, and zero on the rest of the bagel. I got the caramelized onion, cheddar, jalapeño bagel with roasted garlic and chive schmear. My friend got the egg sandwich with bacon, substituted with the everything bagel. The bagels were super yummy and chewy. I loved the flavor of the caramelized onion and the cheddar and jalapeño bits in the bagel. The schmear was also really flavorful, with roasty garlic flavor but the chive flavor was not as strong (probably since my bagel itself had a lot of flavor). The egg in the sandwich was also perfectly fried, the yolk was gooey but not so runny that it would drip. Really enjoyed this place!! Definitely got to come back some day read more

This is definitely our new bagel spot. Way better than bagel boys! We got two sandwiches for brunch and a bunch of bagels for home. Both sandwiches were awesome-- the pastrami with pickles, spicy Mayo, etc on a sesame seed bagel... omg. Y'all-- this pastrami was legit. It was so rich that I'm glad that my husband and I went halfsies with a BYO nova lox bagel. I did the olive caper cream cheese and added red onion and tomato on an everything bagel. It was soooo good. We also got a half dozen bagels to take home-- the onion, jalapeño, cheddar bagels and more everything bagels. I had a onion jalapeño and cheddar one, and it was so moist and chewy inside. Crispy on the outside from being fire baked, I guess. The bagel paired well with the garlic chive cream cheese (which wasn't too overwhelming on the garlic). We also got the hot smoked salmon cream cheese to have with the everything bagels. I loved the Covid precautions and felt very safe. Masks required (all of downtown Decatur is) and only three people inside at a time. They had us wait outside the shop on the sidewalk, brought our order out to a table, and called our name to keep it distant. It was great! We will be back. I stopped by b-side for a shot of caffeine after a yummy brunch with an out-of-town friend. Anything lavender calls my name, so the lavender cold brew was my beverage of choice. I hadn't had a good lavender beverage in a couple years, so I was pleasantly surprised when this drink delivered. I'll definitely swing by again next time I'm in the downtown Decatur area. *I would caution however... the inside of the shop was hopping on a Saturday morning, so I waited for my friend outside briefly while her drink was being made. I'm always a fan of neighborhood coffee if anything I'm looking to find a small business coffee business vs the typical franchise. I believe the coffee is just made a bit more in love. I enjoy the idea of believing I'm more than a customer when it comes to frequenting neighborhood shops. So, when I happen to find "B-Side" tucked away in downtown Decatur square, I was more than thrill to give this place a try. Especially since I haven't had the luxury to travel and explore new places giving our current circumstances. #stayinsupportatlanta. I'm down for supporting small businesses because I know that small businesses are important in any community. My visit this morning to B-Side was fair. I know that I'm not the easiest to please when it comes to food, but I do try to be fair. I was craving a bagel and a vanilla latte, but they were out due to smaller than normal foot traffic so easily understandable. I substituted my craving for an egg of a roll sandwich with Duke's mayo, cheddar cheese, on a Kaiser roll which cost me $5 and a $2 surplus charge for bacon. I then ordered a $4.25 latte with expresso and a $0.75 fee for caramel syrup. Overall, my food was seemingly just ok. I wasn't to impress only because I'm a fan of spices, and I believe the sandwich to be not of my taste but to each its own. I have the same opinion regarding the latte. However, I do think that eating out is a luxury that many can't afford, and I myself am included. So, when I do take time to visit and eat out, I know that I won't always find my meal to be the best always but, it's nice to know that I'm not losing out either. Regarding price, in my opinion not for the working girl like myself. I believe the coffee and sandwich were quite pricey for most working families. However, I do understand giving the location and perhaps costs of supplies give reason to why the price may not be in my opinion "reasonable". I also understand that everything is not for everybody, and this place was simply just not for me. I believe this establishment is mere for families who can spare to spend. I will say the customer service Is amazing, the ladies were quite friendly and welcoming. The storefront was beautiful, and I enjoyed the setup of fresh fruits and veggies. Came in yesterday morning (a Saturday) for breakfast around 9:30am. We parked in a lot right by the bakery. It was $3 for 30 minute parking. There were a few people already inside when we arrived, but not overly crowded. They have a case of a little selection of pastries which I assume changes seasonally or maybe weekly/daily. We ordered some bagels and a cinnamon roll as well as some coffees. They had the deer and dove patio open, so we went to sit there and they brought us out our items as they were ready. They also have some indoor seating and some seating right outside the cafe. I ordered a cinnamon raisin bagel with a special peach cream cheese they were serving. My fiancé got a bacon, egg and cheese on a salt bagel. I was a little disappointed with my bagel - there was truly barely any cream cheese on it. The bagel was good, but I wish I could go back and ask for a lot more cream cheese. My fiancé wasn't a huge fan of the salt bagel - he wished he just got the regular bagel for his sammie. The brown butter cinnamon roll was amazing though. And we loved our coffees! I got a vanilla latte with almond milk - very tasty! B-side always hits the spot. Connected to the deer and the dove and only open until 3 pm B-side cooks up a good breakfast. They have mostly bagels and drinks as well as some lunch items. I typically get a onion, jalapeño and cheddar bagel with roasted garlic and chive schmear. You order at the counter and you can sit inside or out as well as get food for there or to go. Be aware they do sell out of bagels pretty fast so the earlier the better. They have so many add ones and options. You can't go wrong. read more
