Was exhausted from Seeing Taj @ at the Jazz Center, took a break near the end & found this wonderful bar/rest on the main floor tucked away in the corner. Long leather couches, instant service, i could still hear the concert but not as loud, I was in heaven...! I hear that they have a chicken dish that is the best before the show. If you can get a res. This spot is essentially a part of SFJAZZ on Fell & Franklin. We swung by around lunch time on a Sunday to meet up with a friend. Great casual lounge-type feel. Decor is cool without being stuffy. Service was attentive and friendly. We tried some of their brunch options and everything was fresh and tasty. The food was not too heavy and left us ready to go strolling around Hayes Valley. The only ding I can give is that the place is not equipped with any highchairs. But then again I don't think their typical clientele includes many toddlers. read more

We had a great meal here. I usually try to pick restaurants with more unique menu items, but the food here, while more straight forward, tasted great! I would recommend the taster tots as the top item. Our table couldn't get enough of them. They're seasoned in a very special way. The fried Chile. Sandwich was my next favorite! The steak was pretty good, too. Stay away from the pork chop, which is really dry. Drinks were great! We tried a number of different cocktails that were all great. The 9 wood actually does taste a bit like wood, but in a surprisingly good way. The service was great! This place appears to be coasting on its proximity to busy theaters rather than its food and service. The food was OK but not as good as might be expected from the sleek appearance of the place and how crowded it was right before a couple of shows. Cocktails were good. I don't like to review places because I just hate complaining but this time I felt it was necessary for my own sake and everyone else too. I don't recommend this place at all there's many other better options in the area. food took forever,probably if kitchen staff stop goofing around or being unsanitary on their phones then most likely our food could be decent. We live right nearby and ended up having dinner there on friday because it was the only place in hayes that took reservations and didn't have an insane wait time. Overall, really liked it. Drinks were really unique and delicious (I ordered the 9 wood), and i have the roasted chicken salad which was delicious. Everyone else ordered the burger and they seemed to like it as well (i grabbed a few fries which were cooked really well). Solid place and will definitely add it to my rotation. Candace was our server and she was amazing! The ambience and music was my favorite! Staff feels like they're on island time, if you're impatient, or starving, may not be for you. But for my boyfriend and I, we definitely felt the slow down to actually enjoy our time, we loved it! Candace has such a kind and gentle attitude and vibe. An impeccably executed concept that is sorely needed in San Francisco. A seamless part of the SF Jazz Center, if you sit on the sofa area near the bar you can see the stage and the live performances. The cocktails are original and truly evoke the ambience. I tried the 9 Wood which had a complex layer of flavors. We tried most if not all of the dishes which were great accompaniments to the drinks. Highlights that still linger a few days after the evening include the falafel, the chicken sandwich and the pork. The venue has a good combination of bar, communal high tops and sofa areas so it can accommodate all different types of parties. I rideshared up from the peninsula to join up with friends and it was worth it. Sometimes you want that balance of elegance and chic but without the grand affaire of month ahead bookings and tight seating times. This is probably my favorite spot for cocktails in San Francisco mainly for two reasons, the vibe/ambiance of the restaurant and the cocktails. The drinks are very well made and the interior is just really classy and tastefully decorated. Service is good, nothing memorable but they do a perfectly good job. I can't speak to the food because I come here for drinks prior to going out to dinner somewhere else, the menu seems to have more "bar food" options however and if I'm going out to eat in SF its usually not for bar food I will definitely continue to come here for drinks whenever I am in SF. read more

Meant to review earlier as we dined there May 6th. A former coworker of mine was getting a new job in the city so I decided to take her out to celebrate. Originally I was going to going to give her a few choices but I got an email about this restaurant opening up and fell in love with the vibe of the website. Great comfort food that looks good, great prices, AND comfy couches? Yes! The restaurant definitely didn't disappoint. The mood was comfortable but still elevated, like you're just having a nice night out. Since its located in SF Jazz, they complement each other well. Finding a parking spot was a breeze though that might have been luck. The waitstaff was warm and attentive and made us feel well catered to. We missed our reservation because of traffic but were still able to get seating at the sofas, which was ideal. We ordered the fries to start with a Kolsch for me and a red wine for my friend. The fries were great so I ordered my fried chicken sandwich with another side of those. The sandwich was the dish I really looked forward to an that was great as well! The chicken was moist and I was super happy with the whole meal. I believe my friend ordered the Semolina Cavatelli and she enjoyed that too. I've eaten at B-Side about a half-dozen times and it's always been a fun experience with relatively well prepared and tasty food coupled with attentive service. Until last night. While the service remains especially warm and attentive, the kitchen has fallen way off the mark (to the point of uncertainty as to whether I'll ever return). The cocktail was tasteless and watery. The fried chicken sandwich lacked the plump freshness of its equivalent at a Chase Center food stand. The Caesar salad was almost indescribable in its state of flavorless ennui, and the portion had to be an embarrassment at a $13 price point. The key lime pie wasn't bad, especially if one happens to crave institutional cafeteria food. Not being a restaurateur, I've never quite understood why restaurant management sits by idly while the kitchen goes all to hell. Is anybody listening? read more

Food was really good. Bartender was really nice. One of my drinks was very salty and my other was very bitter, not sour, bitter. There were no bitters in it just way too much citrus pith. My biggest pet peev is when the host seats the bar and does not properly seat everyone to leave an odd number of seats. They asked us to move down and I dropped my phone and it shattered. He pour us, himself and the other bartender small glasses of rose to "make it right". It was a nice gesture but I can only drink red wine so it was kind of a wash. Nice atmosphere and good food. Excellent place for a date especially if you're both musically inclined and would like to go see a show at the jazz center which puts out some excellent shows as well. But you can definitely go here regardless if you're in the neighborhood, the bar & restaurant stands tall all on its own. The bar has some excellent fare including some decent top shelf alcohol to go with a nice burger or fries and the house potatoes are strangely decadent and fantastic. I think this restaurant couldn't stay in business if it weren't connected to SF Jazz. The food makes you think that whoever is preparing food in the kitchen isn't actually a chef or cook. One salad tasted like someone poured a whole container of salt on top. The other was a bowl full of sliced fennel and barely any beets (the roasted beet & fennel salad), and just not good. The crab cakes were fine, but were probably just bought somewhere else and reheated. The servers were friendly, but that's all we can say that's good. I think this is under new ownership since they re-opened recently (it's changed several times over the years), and this iteration is insulting to the diner. If you're attending a performance at SF Jazz, I suggest eating any any of the good restaurants nearby in Hayes Valley or having dinner at home. Or keep it simple with what you order at B-Side and don't expect too much if you want the convenience of eating in the building. read more

Once we spoke to the manager Cindy about her rude bartender she made excuses saying how busy it was tonight and she would talk to him later. We ordered right away (including ordering for a friend since they were still on their way and it was only 2:18 at this point). When we got our breakfast sandwiches, neither of them included any bacon! You are going to give us a hard time for ordering quickly because your kitchen closes, even though YOU accept and set your reservations times, and then not even give us our full orders correctly? With Hayes Valley having so many excellent choices, save the money and go somewhere worth it! It makes sense that the place was entirely empty. read more

In terms of food, it's an incredibly average brunch. In terms of location and service, it's definitely better than most. B-side is located right next to SF Jazz and a bunch of other bars, restaurants, shops. So if you're in the area or want to see a Jazz performance, it's really convenient. The service is also really on point. The waiter was very good about checking in with us about coffee refills and ordering (we had a large party and were waiting on some to show up). The food is good. Not standout, but also nothing obviously wrong. I got the tostadas (it was like an eggs benedict on tortilla chips) which were tasty. The whole party seemed pleased with what they ordered (because the brunch is so average). Also, B-side didn't have a large table for my party of 8, so we sat on the couches. I was very impressed with everything about B Side--service, food, ambiance. There weren't many selections on the menu, but everything we ordered was well executed. The roasted shaved brussel sprouts were perfectly seasoned, just the right tang from the cider and slightly sweet from the sesame and miso. Tater tots are hard to mess up but were just crispy enough. We had the burgers and crispy chicken sandwich and both were hearty portions and had great flavor. Our friends were not wowed by their ribeye but it was good enough. Cocktails were delicious, especially the Strawberry Mule and the 9 Wood. Service was top notch; we arrived 1/2 hour early for our reservations and they seated us without waiting for the rest of our party. They even bounced another person who was not with our party but tried to sit in our comfy sofa for 6. The atmosphere was very relaxed and because we were catching the 9:30 Ravi Coltrane show, the location was perfect. This restaurant fits in with the vibe at SFJAZZ much better than the previous restaurant in this space, "South" did. We both had the fried chicken sandwich, and I can honestly say it was the best I've ever had. Perfect combination of crispy, juicy, savory, and the bun was nice and buttery.
