Huge fan of this place ever since it opened up and I discovered it. They stay truly authentic to some of the dishes to the area of their origin and how it is made there. That's the best part. I have recommended this place to quite a few people and it's been liked by most. Well, starting off, I sill do not know the origin of the name (the fact that it has salads in it!), but does not matter. Pretty upscale location, next time Inchins Bamboo and a couple other restaurants and bars in North San Jose! Retail parking is available. I rate this place 4.5/5. Coming to the food, I highly recommend these, Kizhi Parotta (Chicken) - as already stated in plenty of other reviews, this is one of their trademark dishes. Portion size is huge! It's basically wrapped up parotta with their chicken curry and I must say, the chicken curry is great - huge portion to be honest and juicy well flavored chicken, with a hint of coconut. It will fill you up. Parotta with chicken curry - I have also tried this version of the above dish and this is also great. The parotta is flaky as it's supposed to be. Chennai Chicken Biryani - being from Chennai, I love a Chennai style Chicken Biryani! What is it? It's a long grain(basmati) mildly flavored mughlai style bone in chicken biryani. It's hard to describe but I really like the flavor. One thing I'd say is I like spice in general but they don't customize the spice of this - and in general this is how the Chennai Biryani tends to be. I have also had some of their other dishes like the Kathi roll and the paneer tikka and they are pretty decent too. I hear they had a banana leaf style thali before but I have not tried that. I had their weekend buffet once and most of the food was pretty good. It had the Chennai Biryani, Parotta, a butter chicken, tandoori fish (very good), and some other vegetarian dishes I don't seem to remember right now. It was a Friday evening and it's not busy here. We're a bit worried that maybe the food is subpar. There is a vegetarian Indian Thali restaurant just a couple stores down. We've been there and it was pretty good. We decided to give this establishment a try. It certainly did not disappoint. I hear they serve lunch meals on leaves. We'll have to come back to try that. Here's my quick take: + Kizhi Parota is flaky bread like pratha that is smothered in tasty curry inside of a leaf. We chose egg but you can choose chicken or vegetarian. This is a unique dish for us. I enjoyed the savory curry. I love the pratha texture after it is soaked in the curry sauce. It comes with 2 eggs. (5/5) + Chai tea is very good here. Just add 1-2 packets of sugar and you'll get a little caffeine and sugar rush to help get you through the evening. (5/5) + Hyderabadi Chicken Briyani is standard. Although the chicken is boned, the meat just falls off so it's fairly easy to eat. The side of sauce can be mixed into your rice for more of the deep flavors. (4.5/5) - Gobi 65 is a fried cauliflower typically seasoned with Indian spices. I didn't taste much spice although I see them. It was a bit salty after a few bites. (3/5) - Appam Fish Curry has a tomato based curry that is a bit sour in flavor. It comes with appam which is a pancake that is somewhat spongy and crispy (near the sides). The flavor of the curry and what I guess is Basa fish just doesn't work for me. (3/5) We ordered via QR code and our phones. It's a clean restaurant with modern plasticy decor. The Salads and Fusion tagline is misleading, please change the name! If I had just read the name I never would have guessed they offered such tasty South Indian food. Ordered takeout through Yelp and the food was ready in less than 30 min. Parking garage is right next to the restaurant so was easy to go pickup the food. Ordered Hyderabadi chicken biriyani and Tawa fish fry. Loved the food! The Hyderabadi biriyani was yummy with the right amount of masala and around 4 large pieces of chicken. The quantity is also really sufficient for 2 adults. The Tawa fish fry was more like Fish 65 and looked oily. But the fish was too good and just melted in the mouth. If I could give this place a negative score, I would. Let me break it down. Service - The person at the front desk who takes the orders seemed like they didn't want to be there. Half the menu items weren't available. The person didn't even know what some of the menu items meant. Food - It's mostly microwaved food in porcelain bowls. We were missing quite a bit of salt/seasoning. We got the appam, chicken curry, poori and mushroom curry. The appam and poori's were cold and hard. The curries were burning hot (temperature wise). It's a crime to serve mediocre Indian food when there are so many amazing Indian restaurants in the South Bay. For the quality of food and service, the prices are outrageous. $20 for one cold appam and microwaved chicken curry. Like I mentioned above, it should be a crime to be this mediocre. Tried this place twice and decide to visit more! We have tried lamb roll, lamb sandwich, chicken sandwich and chicken rice plate and we love all of them. My personal favorites are their sandwiches! I was told about this place by my cousins. As soon as I heard about their menu, I decided to go on a weekend for lunch. We as a family we're deciding what each one wants to have but when we reached there we came to know that lunch is their family special lunch that's served on a banana leaf unlimited. Well, while we are here let's try it we thought. It's not a very big place so seating is limited. I see a lot of take outs being taken by people, which could be because of the limited seating. Anyhow we had to wait for ten minutes and then we got seated. We were served with water and drinks that we asked for and then a banana leaf was placed for each one of us and one by one things started getting served. My initial thought was that it's a Kerala cuisine but based on some of the dishes that I tasted, it seemed like it's from Andhra too. We had asked for meat sadya but if you're vegetarian you do get everything vegetarian food. One gets a variety of veg and non-veg dishes, kerala parotta is served with chicken curry. It was such a delicious experience having hot, soft and tasty Kerala parotta and this chicken curry indeed was that of Kerala State. As I was relishing this, we were served with different types of biriyani. I loved the thalaserri biriyani the most as I am bored of dum biryani/Hyderabad biriyani, it's the same taste hence I didn't enjoy their dum biryani. So you will get two to three different biriyanis to taste and if you need more they will serve you more. One call out, if you have tasted fish curry from Kerala with kodam pulli in it then you will never like other fish currys because that's how the meen curry tastes, here the fish curry was not from Kerala. This feast was too much for me hence I didn't ask for seconds. They also give you buttermilk with spices added which has a very cooling effect for this hot weather. There's payasam and gulab jamun for dessert. It was delicious. The service is great, the servers are very polite and friendly. They have one restroom which is unisex and only one can go at a time. Overall we enjoyed our experience and we left with a plan to visit here for dinner so we can taste other items from their menu. If you're ready to try different southern Indian food then do visit them. Parking could be a little challenging as you will have to park across the street and walk towards this restaurant.
