I was pleasantly surprised by Ba Bar. My wife likes Vietnamese food and I'm not the biggest fan. However, this place completely changed my mind for Vietnamese food in general. We ordered the rotisserie chicken, rotisserie duck, chicken vermicelli for our mains and the shrimp for an appetizer. Everything absolutely delicious and the flavor was next level. Literally every last bite. We stopped in on a Saturday during lunch and got seated for 4 relatively quickly. The ambiance is pretty modern with plenty of seating and they even have an outdoor patio. Service was mediocre with waiter forgetting to put in some of our order hence the 4 stars but the food definitely makes up for it and is now on my list of go to places! read more

They have a pretty decent happy hour food and drink selection. Service is really friendly and the ambiance was really nice. We visited Ba Bar for a late lunch and brought our dog along, opting for the outdoor patio seating on a lovely sunny day. We were seated right away, and there were a few other dogs outside as well, which made for a nice atmosphere. The restaurant was overall welcoming and server was friendly throughout our visit. Both locations, are convenient to different work that I do, so I frequent the restaurants every time I make a trip. The location by Seattle University is more charming, smaller, and has that college campus adjacent feel. We ordered five the shrimp with tamarind glaze, as well as the garlic noodles with Dungeness crab. The ladder of these dishes, being my absolute favorite bite of Asian fusion food in Seattle Although dietary restrictions and allergies prevent me from eating some of the things I enjoy most, I always get aside of the pho broth. It is exceptional! You can taste all of the time and layer of flavor they put into making an absolutely killer soup. I'm also always very impressed with the level of service at both locations. They're always quick to get drink refills or help you order an alcoholic beverage, the food comes out hot and fresh and accurate to your order. First the good: Every staff member we encountered was lovely, the ambiance is generally nice, and we liked our pho (I got vegetarian pho and loved the mushrooms as opposed to the giant pieces of unappetizing broccoli and carrots that often come in this dish at other restaurants), except for the noodles were all congealed/clumped together in both of our bowls, which made it hard to eat. The bad: WOW what a cluster! We walked in to find a mass of people hovering around the door. It was impossible to tell who was on line to get on the list, who was on the list waiting for a table and , who was waiting for take out. Confusion reigned! Staff needs to be a little more assertive in managing the line and telling people not to clog the area. We got on the waitlist and it took about 15-20 minutes to get seated in the bar area, which was fine. But it was also confusing as there were tons of empty tables around the restaurant (maybe reservations? But it didn't seem so). Our pho came quickly but our "starter" (the spinach tofu paper wrap) came about 15 minutes later and was very oily, but good. We didn't seem to have a consistent waiter--we interacted with no fewer than FIVE waitstaff during the course of our meal. I am no restaurant expert but this seems inefficient and confusing, especially as we did not know who to ask for the check and ended up waiting a good 15 minutes before someone came over. For $20 pho you expect it to at least be decent. Any pho dive in Seattle will beat this out. The curry was underseasoned, lacking flavor and the texture of the noodles was off putting. Worst part is biting in to not 1 but 3 pieces of what looked like burnt scraps that were scraped from the bottom of the pan the food was cooked in. Happy Hour! We came on Tuesday around 3:45 PM and got seated right away. We had the option between indoor and outdoor (heated and covered) seating. Since it's so cold lately, we decided to sit indoors and the ambiance and atmosphere were both great. Ba bar is very hip and modern but still pays homage to vietnamese roots. We ordered from mostly the happy hour menu -- two sets of the $9 10 piece wings, the Ginger Pop cocktail (required $8 drink minimum to have access to the happy hour menu), and the happy hour fried oysters (3 pieces). The wings and oysters are so delicious -- would totally order again! I'm not too keen on the taste of vodka, but the Ginger Pop didn't have too strong of any alcohol taste, so that was great. I liked the addition of the basil seeds too. I also ordered a garlic lobster noodle off the normal menu to take home for my partner. It was yummy but we had trouble finding the lobster bits. For $19.50, it was one of the lesser worthwhile items. The host and servers both were very nice, and even the manager was bussing food! This most recent trip to Ba Bar, I ordered the Lemon Grass Beef Vermicelli Bowl and it was "okay." I thought overall the food was okay, but lacked flavor. I personally wouldn't come back because I've found the food to be quite bland and I've just enjoyed it more elsewhere. What I do like about Ba Bar is that it's "nice." It's good for dates, large groups and everything in between. We showed up with a group of 10+ and the service was "okay." The server seemed at times to be annoyed by the some of the asks/questions from my/our party, but it wasn't enough to complain about - just something we "felt."
