There are different kinds of them, boat noodles, seafood (yenta-four) noodles, etc.. these are typical noodle soup in Thailand but are not available at most Thai restaurants in Houston. She is Thai & has a high tolerance for spice level. The curries were good but the portion wasn't enough in the food tray & the sauce amount is important when it comes to enjoying your curry & rice ratio. Both servers at the place had a weird stand off ish attitude, get your order and get out, annoyed when you request something extra attitude (especially the older guy). I noticed a bit of a smell from the table when we sat down, typically when they are not wiped down properly. Food was good, although a bit small, and perhaps it was just the dishes we ordered, but the food leaned more toward sour than savory. I've had Boat Noodle before but this one was a bit too sour for my taste. Meatball and kidney were nice, but the beef was a bit tough. This is my dad's favorite Thai food spot. He loves the whole steamed fish. This was good. My kids and I got the pork and shrimp egg rolls, tom yum soup, and steamed mussels. I think the tom yum could have been better but it was okay. My kids enjoyed the egg rolls and I liked the steamed mussels with the green spice sauce it came with. We also ordered the chicken satay and tiger beef. They were both really good and I'd order them again. The chicken sate had two sauces, one was like a peanut/curry sauce and the other was like a clear sauce, I'm thinking it is like fish sauce? with some minced veggies in it. We also ordered the pork jerky, chicken larb, and pad se eaw. Jerky was decent, chicken larb was alright, but the pad se eaw was pretty good. I would like to get that again, it had lots of flavor. It had chicken beef and shrimp in it. For dessert I did enjoy their sticky rice mango though I wish it came with a condensed milk drizzle or something, that would've been amazing lol. This is my first time coming to Thai Spice. Our friend no longer lives here but any time he and his wife are in town they have to make sure they get some Thai Spice. We had the mussels, fried fish, pad see ew, papaya salad. Our server was very nice. Even though our friend knew exactly what he wanted, she made sure to tell us about the other items on the menu and tried to cater to our taste. Great service and the price is ridiculously cheap for Thai food. My favorite was the green curry, pad Thai, larb salad and then the beef spicy noodles. The reason for spicy noodles to be my least favorite was because the broth tasted too sweet instead of spicy but my brother in law loves it. Ordered pad kee mao and the menu didn't say it came with bamboo shoots. I asked for mild and found 5 slices of jalapeños and pieces of red chilies. Hmm, maybe that's mild for the chef? My coworker Tia recommended Thai Spice Express few years ago when she learned about me living in Chinatown. Simply because she craved for yellow curry with rice. It's been my courtesy to bring her something to warm her hearts. She recommended 3 restaurants that i have never been to. Lucky me (or her), this is mostly in my favor because there are so many dishes to choose from. I stopped coming here for a year because of health and safety violations and the health score was low. I came back recently for some quick lunches when I visited doctor next door. I saw few people eating hot pot and fish dish that I want to explore. I tried a coconut chicken soup during a rainy day. My wife and youngest daughter wanted tofu Pad Thai from this eatery which I did not like. My wife ordered a tray at $45 and it was not the traditional Pad Thai we expected. There was no egg, but it did have random veggies in it which was very unusual. Also there was chili flakes cooked with the noodles. Usually the chili flakes are on the side. Also we received no lime. This place has some of the best Thai food in the city! We used to get takeout from here all the time pre-COVID and just tried again last weekend (August 2020). I called ahead to place the order for pickup, and my dad was able to pick up the orders in store. The ordering process went smoothly! I don't think they have an option to pay in advance. I've been to the Thai Spice Buffet off Voss and loved it so much that it's a place I take friends. I was curious to try this place and jumped at the opportunity to go with a group, but ended up sadly disappointed. Unlike the Voss location, this is a counter service restaurant. Several menu items are the same as Voss, with additions like Hot Pot options and noodle options, but less of the prime items I prefer. My wife ordered the drunken chicken and I went with the House Fried Rice. I sampled my wife's drunken chicken and was disappointed. The flavor was blander than I get at the buffet and it was about 60% vegetables and onions. My fried rice was better, but the "BBQ pork" was more fat than meat, and the inclusion of large chunks of barely cooked tomato were more off-putting than enhancing to the meal. The worst element had to be the service, or lack thereof. Because we were with a group of more than six people, they tacked on an 18% gratuity to each order. They proceeded to drop off drinks and our entrees and ignored us the rest of the time. Even worse, they seemed to be generally agitated that we were there to begin with. Our group accounted for about 80% of the business that they had while we were there, and they were complaining about the "party table" because they had no system to keep track of who ordered what The sauces and napkins were in a self-serve area, they never refilled our drinks once, and the "Free Hot Tea" at the self-serve area was empty the entire two-hour time we were there and no one bothered to refill it. Skip this place if you're looking to go somewhere to eat. Food is mediocre at best and the service is terrible. You can find cheaper options up and down Bellaire Blvd, you can find higher quality Thai Food at Thai Gourmet down Richmond Ave, and if you want to try the best of what this concept has to offer, go to Thai Spice Buffet II off Voss. read more

Me and my wife are both from Thailand, and this used to be our go-to place for authentic Thai dishes for more than 10 years. Sadly the quality has significantly declined now (August, 2021), along with some troubling observed behavior. We won't be visiting again anytime soon. If you want more details, read about our last two visits below. First time our to go Stir-fried basil pork (Pad Ka Praw) was done using the wrong sauce - sweet dark Chinese sauce, exactly the opposite of what the dish should taste. As old-time customers we gave them another chance, the second time, our Beef noodle (Boat noodle) came out with beef balls that tasted spoiled, Seafood noodle (Yentafo) also came with spoiled tasting fishballs. We also ordered stir-friend noodle with gravy (Lad Nar), and were told they're out of the traditional fried flat noodle, but can offer it with smaller noodle (Sen Lek). Surprisingly, they didn't stir-fried the small noodle at all, and the resulting dish was cold noodle topped with lukewarm source - slimy and disgusting. We've also heard that the restaurant have had a new owner, and observed an unfamiliar older man (we know all the long-time servers and busboys) behind the counter patted the head of a young female staff and pulled her arm toward him in another instance. These happened in full view from where customers are eating, and we feel concern for the two female staff regarding what can happen out of public sight. (THIS PART IS MY SPECULATION) I know that many foreign restaurant staffers aren't exactly working legally in the US, and would be more hesitating to confront manager or owner for fear of losing their jobs or being involve with US legal system. We're sad we lost one of our few connections to other Thais in Houston, but cannot support this business anymore read more
