I got the crying tiger steak and it was SO GOOD!! The meat was cooked perfectly to medium rare, just as I had asked for. I loved that it came with sticky rice AND papaya salad! Although I was slightly confused with the steamed vegetables. I ate it all, but they weren't seasoned at all. The sauce that came with was good too. The only thing was the meat was pretty well seasoned for me so it was a bit too salty for me when I dipped it into the sauce. The service was promptly and our server was friendly. Urban Thai Kitchen has not lost its touch. Still the best Thai restaurant in Houston area. As we ordered the lunch special, we also go cup of soup, egg roll and salad. Soup was tom yum chicken with good number of chicken pieces and mushrooms. Egg roll with the sweet chili sauce was good as well. We ordered the green chicken curry. They use Thai eggplants (small one) and was delicious. Ordered the basil stir fried ground pork & egg rice plate. Ground pork was very tasty. Comes with fried basil that were crispy. We ended our meal with the mango sticky rice. Instead of the standard white rice, they used purple rice. Probably one of the best in Houston. Service was quick. It wasn't busy when we came in on a Saturday morning. Restaurant is very nicely decorated. They have a wall of the Thai alphabets. Definitely will come again when we are in the area. This week I tried the Tom Yum Pork/Shrimp Wonton soup on the lunch menu! This place never misses! I can always count on consistent Thai flavor and quality in the food prep for their customers. The prices have increased but I still think it's a good value for the amount of food and quality you receive at this family-owned Thai restaurant and I always refer all my friends in the area to try them out. I love to order my favorite dishes; the green and red curry, pad kee mao, pad see ewe, shrimp pad thai, basil friend rice and khao soi. My favorite appetizers are the money bags, shrimp rolls, and tulip port dumplings. So if you're in the area stop and try it. Sometime the mom owner will come out and great you to say hello. Urban Thai is a restaurant located in a shopping strip near Kroger. Cozy setting if dining in. Service was pretty good overall. The Thai tea was a little too sweet. Got mild spice for all 3 dishes. Pad kee mao with chicken was delicious but more on the sweeter side (probably shouldve done medium spice?). Was not too crazy about the chicken khao soi. It's savory and chicken quality was great, but I've had better at other restaurants. Finally, for the massaman curry, the SO picked beef as the protein. I personally would've chosen chicken or tofu. You can tell from the cuts that the beef was going to be tough to chew (and it was). Aside from the beef, everything else in the curry was delicious! There was an option to choose naan or rice. Cute little place in Katy. We can around 5 and no one was there. When we left around 6, quite a few more people came in. The servers were friendly. We tried the tulip dumplings as a starter. Very good and cute. I saw a picture on yelp and asked the server what it was. He said Khao Soi, so I went ahead and tried it. It had a chicken leg and chicken breast in it. The chicken was good but I pulled it out because kinda hard to eat in the bowl. It was a curry egg noodle dish. Came with a hard boiled egg, egg noodles, crunch noodles, a side plate of pickled cabbage, purple onion and a lime. I only tried the pickled cabbage with my dish and it was really good. Crunchy, slightly sour but I liked it. The got light spicy and it was really spicy. I was sweating a little. But it was so good. Couldn't stop eating it. My husband tried the green curry. He ate most of it. He wasn't a big fan of some of the veggies in it like the eggplant and kaffir. I thought the kaffir looked like fig but wasn't a fan of the texture either. But the flavor of the green curry was really good. Then we had to try the sticky mango rice, neither of us had ever had it but always wanted to try it. Delicious!! We cleaned that plate. Not sure why the rice is blue but it was good! Kinda tasted like condensed milk mixed with rice, didn't expect the rice to be warm but it was good. The mango was cold and yummy.
