Time for another review since it's been 4 years since we ate here. Tonight was a major wedding anniversary. We ordered two House Specials - Senior Special and the BBQ Chicken and noodle special... $21 and $22 respectively. Food was great. The hubby finished his bbq plate - ever bit gone! I couldn't finish mine. I'm not a fan of brown rice but put some of the peanut sauce over it to give it more flavor. Next time I'm going to substitute the brown rice with white rice. Service was great! Water glasses refilled without asking. We got there around 5:30 and beat the dinner rush. We also ordered sticky rice with mango to go. We ate it all before I got to take a picture. We are never disappointed when we come here. read more

The food met expectations. This review is about the abysmal service. We were at this restaurant close to 2 hours. It was more than 15 minutes before anyone ever came to our table after we were initially seated. Food took almost 40 minutes to arrive. Then, it all arrived at once, appetizers and entrees. I watched the table next to us, two adults and one child, receive their meal one person at a time over the course of more than 20 minutes. They serve the child first, oddly. Here's the problem. The restaurant was packed although there were only about four families eating at tables. The rest of the dining room was a waiting room. This restaurant is a takeout restaurant not a dine-in restaurant. I watched 23 takeout orders processed during my meal. At one point, more than 2/3 of the tables in the dining room had takeout customers hanging out waiting. Some of the takeout customers waited more than 30 minutes. The takeout customers got continuous service whereas the dine-in customers got service when someone was running past them to bring something to a takeout customer. This restaurant should simply stop doing dine-in service. They can't do it. They fail. read more

Nice meal with the family. Simple, healthy, and relaxing setting. Quiet, almost secluded location in Orinda. No drama.

We were seated for over 15 min with no one coming to take our order while staff focused their attention on takeout orders. We gave up and walked out. Better service with takeout orders. read more

Wow, service very slow and we were served our dishes at very different times AND it ruined our in restaurant dining experience. There were only two tables occupied btw. Restaurants have got to quit ruining their dining experience due to DoorDash orders. read more

Went there for mine my husband's first date night in way to long. We went on the earlier side of dinner but the service was superb the meal was amazing. We had the avocado rolls, tom yum soup (my absolute favorite) and chicken pad Thai. This was our first time here and we will definitely be back! read more

On my way home from church, I searched Yelp for Thai restaurants in the area. Yelp gps took me to this place and I'm glad to have found it. I was pleasantly surprised they offer lunch special on weekends - it was the best choice for me as I was dining alone. I got the lunch special plate of grilled chicken with peanut sauce over brown rice, veggies and salad. Such a generous delicious serving. I would have preferred the peanut sauce served on the side but I failed to ask. The tangy & sweet salad compliments the chicken with peanut sauce very well. Their Thai iced tea wasn't too sweet which is perfect. I got the fried banana with coconut ice cream for dessert. Bananas rolled in brown sugar served with a bit of honey. So crunchy! Perfect dessert for me as I love fried bananas! Ice cream was so creamy. Take note coconut ice cream doesn't have a strong taste, it's a bit bland if you're used to American ice cream. Serving is good for 2 or 3 people. The place is divided into two sections. It's nice and clean inside. Service is prompt and friendly. Very warm Asian ladies providing service with a smile. Our go-to Thai takout whenever in Orinda! Baan Thai is a classic staple, always fast and reliable and delicious. I'm a fan of their Pad See Ew, which is always sauteed freshly with a more generous serving of vegetables and tofu than other locations. Their green and yellow curries are my other regular orders. Love the eggplant doused in their creamy green curry, and the takeout sizes are quite large! One of my favorite sides here is actually their peanut sauce - while it comes with the Praram, it is divine in it's own right and definitely worth the order to add to anything you're eating from Baan or elsewhere! read more

Hubby had the seafood pumpkin curry which he thought was excellent. It had chunks of pumpkin, salmon, scallops, calamari, prawns, peas and basil swimming in a delicious red curry sauce. They offer a "create your own dish" and I chose chicken, tofu and vegetables in a yellow curry. I was impressed that it was chock-full of vegetables - carrots, onions, peas, green beans, cabbage, red and green bell peppers, potatoes, and broccoli along with the chicken and tofu, I wondered how they were able to fit all of that in the to-go container, but they did. The yellow curry was smooth and velvety with just the right amount of heat for me. The service was fast, friendly and efficient and the lady brought the order out to me as I was waiting in the car parked right in front. read more

Our family loves Baan Thai! We have celebrated many family Birthdays and graduations, not to mention lots of planned or last minute lunches and dinners with friends. The service is always friendly and helpful. The menu is reliable and delicious. A few of our favorites are the Thai Crunch salad and the Penang chicken curry. We recently hosted a wedding shower at the restaurant. The staff was so helpful to us in planning the menu and the buffet table set up was lovely. The restaurant itself is charming! Cosy inside, interesting artwork, windows looking out to the 'village' and the green of the golf course across the street. read more

This is more of a three and a half star place, but I can round up, especially in the age of Covid-19. Ordered the pra ram and the pad Thai. They got confused on what time I said I was gonna pick it up, so it wasn't ready when I arrived. To compensate, they gave me a Thai iced tea. Not too sweet and it was a nice gesture since I had to wait. Pad Thai didn't have limes or much in the way of greens, and the peanuts were a little on the smaller side. Plenty of egg, tofu, and chicken, however. Pra ram was standard and solid. They also have their act down for Covid-19. I saw a teenager go in to pick up her order, using the complimentary hand sanitizer she walked out, but I parked in front and waited in my car for delivery. read more

Hidden gem, definitely best Thai food in Orinda. Came here a few times with the family and absolutely love the food. No frills just authentic, delicious, fresh food! Loved every dish ordered from the pad thai, curry dishes, basil chicken to the appetizers. We found out that they are affiliated with another Thai restaurant in Berkeley that we use to go to when we lived there. So happy we found this place! As for the price, someone mentioned it was expensive...really? Compare to what??? We found the price point to be on par w other restaurants in Orinda. Courteous and kind staff but service can be slow when it gets crowded but once food arrives, all is forgiven. read more

Went here for a takeout meal on advice of a friend. The meal was Okay, but, all in all, nothing beyond that. The Pad See Ew noodles were very good, but the mushrooms only partially cooked. Same with the mushrooms in the very good grilled eggplant. The yellow curry was fine, but nothing I'd rave about. My friend said that the quality had recently declined. Perhaps there is a new cook in town? I will look elsewhere for my next Thai meal in Orinda. read more

Recovering from surgery so I ordered yellow curry and beef salad... it arrived promptly thanks to door dash, but the yellow curry was cold even though I live 5 minutes away. They wrapped the curry in foil paper which allowed the broth to escape. It ruined our lunch as it left the chicken and veggies dry as well as a wet salad. The beef salad tasted like the fishiest fish I have ever had, I couldn't eat it. When I called to let them know- Koi blamed door dash. -first time and last time, the lack of accountability was also distasteful. read more

What a hidden treasure hidden behind the theater and Ranch 99. Their spicy fried wings are just the right amount of heat, giving you a satisfying burn while also tingling your lips for a long time. Came by for dinner the other night in the quiet town of Orinda. The dining area of the restaurant was spacious and classy. Started off with the golden bags which were okay. They were basically shrimp and pork? wrapped in a wonton wrapped served with a side of plum sauce. The seafood pumpkin curry that Yelpers raved about was also decent. There was plenty of seafood and the pumpkin curry was flavorful. The basil calamari was also tasty. There was a nice basil flavor and the calamari wasn't overcooked. The pad thai chicken was okay. I've definitely had better and I'm not a fan of pad thai chicken myself. Throughout the entire meal, the staff was extremely courteous. A waiter even scooped everyone a scoop of rice when he brought out the rice! At $22/person, pricing was slightly above average..perhaps it's because it's in Orinda? read more

Oof. This one really missed the mark. Service was good but food was very mediocre. Green curry was bland and we ordered a noodle dish that was also very bland. Steamed dumplings were watery. We are not super picky eaters and we agreed that all 3 dishes were horrible. Also, the bathroom is basically in the middle of the kitchen.
