I was pleasantly surprised, all the food was excellent! I had the many and spicy chicken shawarma plate. My gosh, very good quality food, very tasty and full of colorful flavours. When I picked up my food, I saw some deserts on display (pistachio cream stuffed sweet rolls, don't remember the name) I got 2 of them and the flavor was something I've never had and was better than I expected. Came on Father's Day and after church service. Heard about this place from a friend and per her advice I ordered the #PotatoBolani and it didn't disappoint! I ordered the #LambKabobPlate and I thought it was good with the lamb being tender and moist. I also loved the dressing on the salad. Heard good reviews for those who tried the #Sambosas but my friends who ordered the #ChickenShawarmaSalad and #ChickenShawarmaSandwichCombo thought it was dry and altogether not to their liking. I'm giving four stars because I would come back for the #PotatoBolani and I would likely order something new to try. The restaurant has table seating for 4 people and we were 7 so we had to split up. You have to go to the front counter to order and the line was between tables. I don't suggest for groups larger than 4 people if you plan to dine indoors. Service was minimal but you can see they were busy and trying to get to customer's orders. I saw that Baba Kabob was on the Yelp 100 list last year and it has been on my list to try for a while. I finally ordered take-out from them and I understand why it's such a hit! I ordered the potato bolani and chicken kabab and both were delicious. The potato bolani actually comes in a huge pizza box. The potato stuffing was like a samosa stuffed in flatbread, and I loved the dipping sauce it came with. The chicken kabob was flavorful and juicy and the dish was a very generous portion. Great place to watch Mediterranean Cuisine around our neighborhood (Miramar and Poway). We always enjoy their Kofta Kobideh Kabob. But this time we decided to try something else and we were not disappointed. Their Chicken Shawarma Salad with Balsamic Dressing was delicious: similarly, their Chicken Tikka Korma was well made; curry not too strong and we could still taste the chicken. First off I want to say that there are a couple reviews complaining about price. To those I say, Come to Los Angeles / Inland Empire and see the nasty kabobs they sell for the same price or more. Now for the review, The food is amazingly tasty and chicken and beef surprisngly tender and moist at the same time. The service is similar to that of higher end restaurants and the owner as well as his son and staff are extremely hospitable. The ambiance is nice and mellow with quite a few booth tables as well as smaller tables for bigger parties to sit together or parties of 4. I drive down from Chino Hills once every month specifically for their food along with either a family member or 3 haha. I hope and pray the owner considers opening up a place in OC or LA area. The 5 star reviews brought me to Baba Kabob. And Baba Kabob's 5 star food and service compelled me to write this glowing review. Baba Kabob is unassumingly tucked away in the corner of strip mall that houses a plethora of Indian restaurants. An easy to miss spot. Then you walk inside. No glitz or glam. But that's not needed here. I do not say this lightly. The food absolutely slaps. We devoured everything. The food was so succulent, flavorful, and addicting, that we barely left any room to breathe in between our ravenous bites. The lamb shank, chicken kabob, beef kabob, chicken shawarma, gyros... All of it. Phenomenal. I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu here. The Afghan flavors were authentic, fresh, bold, and beyond satisfying. Another bonus for the service. The owner is so kind, pleasant, and accommodating. He is eager to please and clearly takes a lot of pride in his top-tier establishment. He warned us that we ordered a lot of food. This place was listed on one of the Yelp lists so of course I had to come try it out. First you order at the counter and then you find a table where they will bring your order out to you. I got the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich Box Special ($15.49) which came with french fries, a drink, and a granola bar. The menu said that it came with a brownie, but they gave me a granola bar from Costco instead. I could definitely do without the granola bar, because obviously I could've just gone to Costco if I wanted it. The sandwich with the fries were just the right amount to fill me up for a meal. The chicken was really tender and flavorful, and the fries were nice and crispy on the outside while a bit soft on the inside. The people working there were very nice and greeted us right when we entered. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and they made sure that we had everything that we needed. 2024 Update: BabaKabob prepared the food for an event in our home and the food, service, setup, communication and general care/attention to detail was absolutely amazing! Our guests loved everything from the presentation of the dishes to the tenderness and flavor of the many different kabobs they cooked for us. We first learned about this place after reading an article about some of the best places to eat in San Diego. It is definitely one of the best kabob spots for sure! We were greeted by a very friendly lady here. And she answered any questions we had (we had asked what was popular). (5/5) -Pita Bread x2 for me and the wife. (5/5) The kabobs were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Nothing tasted dried or overcooked. It was difficult picking a favorite because they were all so good (we shared)... but if I had to pick one, I'd go with the beef kabob. The rice was also good, not over or under cooked. The salad mix was super fresh and the vinaigrette (or whatever dressing they used) went well with it. The food was so good here that we came back 4 days later! And this place is about a 20 minute drive, each way for us, from our home. I ordered the same, but my wife ordered the Chicken Shawarma and Gyro Plate (5/5) and it was delicious as well! This is one of our favorite places to go in San Diego. Mostly for the potato bolani. It's like indian naan meats potatos and when topped with the tangy green sauce and white yogurt sauce.. SO YUMMY!! I love that they are generous in the portions and it comes in a little pizza box. It's our favorite dish there. Mantu was a unique dish that I would say I have never had anywhere else. It's like wontons.. but less doughy cover.. and different filling. It came covered with a sauce and really yum. My husband and kids loved the kabuli. A generous and juicy lamb shank on a bed of unique rice that had carrots and raisins to make it sweet and savory. PS: everything needs a drizzle of their house sauces. It's that good. I believe the sambosas were like indian samosas but with w twist and the chicken shawarma was big and delicious and juicy. We have not had the pleasure of dining in but every now and then I get a hankering and have to swing by on my way home from work. They have a venue in poway that we have yet to visit.. but definitely will return. Service is top notch and the ease of ordering pick up is ~ chef's kiss. Service was great- friendly, checking whether we had any questions or needed help and inquiring about dietary restrictions. My son and I tried the Chives Bolani and the Aushak Dumplings. While the bolani was delicious while hot, the portion sizes were great so we chose to take most of it to go and enjoyed the dumplings smothered in the ground beef gravy in house. Spotted this restaurant on Yelp's Top 100 and was counting down the days until I could try this place. Popped in for dinner on a Tuesday and it was pretty empty inside. The menu is a bit confusing as they have two big screens with offerings, but they have more items that line the walls that aren't directly listed there. Parking is super easy in the lot and my first visit has made me a loyal customer to try more of their food. Chives Bolani (4/5): If you like chives, you will love this because the flat bread is stuffed to the brim with chives. It's got patches of crunch and it pairs beautifully with the two sauces it comes with. I didn't realize just how much you get with a single order and this fed us for another day after. Ashak (4.75/5): The dumplings have a nice chew and the freshness of the chives pairs perfectly with the savory beef and tangy garlic sauce. A meaty dish that doesn't feel oily or heavy because of the perfectly balanced flavor profile. Kabuli (4.25/5): Super tender lamb shank over a bed of delicious carbs. Rating: 10/10 The BEST Afghan food that I have EVER HAD!!!! I discovered Baba Kabob two years ago in the midst of COVID, and it is still as good today as it was back then. Just came here couple days ago at around 6 PM to grab dinner with my boyfriend (who is also a huge fan). Parking is in a plaza with other stores, so it was not difficult to find a spot. We walked in and were greeted immediately by the friendly staff. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Chicken Kabob plate ($16.15 total for the bill on one item) to go. There is also a Yelp check-in for a free soda, so it was very easy to do that :) Ambiance was very family-like and chill. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our food, but it wasn't too busy inside the store so we sat at a table and waited. There were a couple families dining in and everyone's food looked so good (especially the gyro fries, which I will definitely be trying next time since I haven't gotten it before!) The food was so delicious and perfectly seasoned. I loved how moist and piping hot the chicken kabob was with that perfect charred smoky taste. The rice is also so delicious even though it seems so simple. Salad is yummy as well! The tzatziki sauce was also a highlight for me, it has a very mild yogurt taste and consistency which I love and that complemented the smoky and salty chicken amazingly. My boyfriend really loved the green herb sauce that came with it, and he finished the whole plate in less than 7 minutes!!! It took me a bit longer and I got two meals out of my plate. The price my seem high, but its enough for 4 people to share; the wife and I took home half of it! $21 Two Kabobs Entree...The Chicken Kabob is so thick, juicy, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The Lamb Kabob is succulent, tender, and so flavorful...I think its the best lamb I have ever had in my 40+ years of eating. Served on top of buttery rice mountain, with a nice salad to complement. We stopped in for take out on a weeknight. We arrived around 4pm and there were 2 other parties in the restaurant. I was inundated with so many delicious choices so I opted to order a gyro box special and the beef and chicken kabob combo. This came to about $40. We were told that it would take 15 mins to prepare, so if you are here for a quick lunch you may want to call ahead. The gyro box comes with a gyro, French fries, a drink, and "brownie". The fries were krinkly and crispy. The gyro surprisingly had ample meat and the veggies were fresh and not wilted. Unfortunately the pita broke apart and perhaps bc we didn't eat it right away and it was so stuffed. The flavors were great and I would definitely order this again. Bummer that our brownie was a Kirkland granola bar. The chicken and beef kabob combo comes with cubes of chicken and beef over a bed of rice and a side salad. I thoroughly enjoyed this combo. You get a bit of everything to try. The meats were tender and tasted amazing the flavors and spices used were on par. I did prefer the beef kabob better however and so did my husband.
