We ordered take out here and we were initially drawn in by the inexpensive prices. I feel really bad saying this but we ordered two shawarma plates and were very disappointed. There was barely any meat or even salad for that matter and it truly ended up just mostly being a giant plate of rice. There was no tahini or garlic paste as advertised on the menu. Looking back at the photo it looks like maybe there was a tiny drizzle of the garlic paste perhaps, but it took me scrutinizing the photo to find it. Huge bummer! read more

We ordered three items for delivery. When the food arrived, the wonderful aroma was a really positive sign. The falafel and salad wrap was awesome. The flavors were well balanced and the pita wrap was not soggy and the ideal wrap. The chicken schwarma with salad and rice was hot and fresh. At first, I didn't know if there was a lot of chicken but quickly realized that is was well blended into the salad. We are saving the falafel with rice for later as the portions are large. I first met Baba and his son when they had a store at Haymarket. I would go there every day after school for their delicious lentil soup and falafel wraps (so tasty and so cheap!) I am so happy to find that he has relocated to my native Malden, where he is right down the street from my workplace. The store has a ton of fascinating edible products from all over the Middle East (owners are Lebanese). They also have exotic meats (I'm a vegetarian but I know they have lamb and goat. There is a place to sit and eat as well. Baba is a wonderful old gentleman who will adopt you as a grandkid and give you lots of hugs. read more

This place is best thought of a middle eastern grocery store / butcher with a small kitchen in the back where they have some food. Unfortunately, I approached it like a restaurant or cafe. But it's not (I guess the word "supermarket" in their name should have clued me in). They don't really have most of the items on their menu on a given day. It's like going over to a friend's house for dinner... you have whatever they are cooking. They do one different special a day, and maybe a side dish. I, like an idiot, opted for the chicken shawarma, which was wrapped in foil on a cold un-spinning rotisserie like no one had ordered it for hours (or days?). The shawarma was just wrong. The chicken had the consistency of toothpaste, like it had been stewing well past any reasonable stopping point. Fortunately, the freshly cooked beef-olive paratha saved the day; seems to be one of those off menu items that they just randomly cook. So the moral of the story is: check out what is currently cooking and get it. I have had catering from here before, so I can attest that their specials really are good (e.g., chicken in a soupy fresh olive sauce). But this place mainly gets 4 stars because everyone there is so nice. Seems like the kind of place where they know their customers names. Btw, the grocery selection seemed modest but with all the middle eastern essentials (including halal meat). read more

Nice little supermarket (about the size of a convenience store) with prepared Middle-Eastern foods in the back. Incredibly friendly staff and owner. While I was deciding what to order from the limited selection of prepared food, the owner offered me a sample of thier falafel. It was the tenderest, most flavorful falafel that I've ever had. I ended up ordering lamb shanks with okra. It was delicious! The tomato sauce has the right amount of cinnamon, and lots of garlic. The okra was soft, but not mushy or slimy. It came with salad and a huge amount of rice pilaf. Their kitchen area is small, so they only have a few hot dishes, which change daily. I'll definitely be back to see what else they make. read more

I love Baba's. They have all the food I grew up eating. I love the date filled cookies and always try to grab a few boxes when I can. Great prices and friendly service all around. i like going to this store as the people are very nice, welcoming, and warm. The food is tasty and for a very affordable price. I usually get a shawarma sandwich for $5 or a falafel sandwich for $4 very good size for such a low price, delicious, and makes my tummy happy while my pocket is happy too lol. Combination of Little Middle Eastern grocery/butcher shop, with homemade style delicious and flavorful middle eastern dishes! Started going there for their fresh chicken, cut the way you want, small pieces, big pieces, with skin or without. Then I noticed they had freshly cooked food and I gave it a try. I loved it so I have been going back at least 2ice a week to buy their chicken and always leave with a dish of whatever they cooked for the day. I especially love their chicken, which comes with fluffy basmati rice and whatever veggie dish they have for the day ( love their okra!)and a salad to top it off! I was a customer between July 2014- December 2014 I started to buy most of my needs from this store when I moved to this area. Meat, Coffee, Olives...Etc The staff at fist seemed nice, that was the reason why I went there twice or 3 times a week. I used to give this business bewtween $300 to $400 a month. I never cheked the prices or negotiated with the owners.I knew that their prices for the most part are higher than the Halal Shop down the street and I didn't have an issue with that. One day I went there and I bought some T-Bone Steaks for an invite, when I tried to cook them I noticed that Filet part of the steaks was missing. I mentioned that to the owner's son during my visit to the store, he told me: they come that way!!! I came to live in this country 25 years ago, he and I both know that T-Bone steaks don't come that way. I told him that I understand that he needs to make money, the reason why the filet part was missing was because he sells it separate at a higher cost but he needs to let his costomers know that. A T-Bone is a T-Bone. This is a fact and a matter of principle. I didn't make a big deal of it so I kept going there. In my last visit I bought some meat, the guy at the meat counter gave me what I asked for with the usual price tag that they give you in every Halal store. I took it to the register, the owner (the father) looked at me like I was fro another planet!! I asked him if he wasn't able to read the handwriting of his employee, his asnwer to me was almost like: The guy at the meat counter is charging you less than what he should have and that we were stealing from him. He gave me another price. His son took the meat to the counter and he came back with price number 3!!! I was very upset, and I left the store and never went back. Al Hamdou lillah I earn a good living, I went there because they are close to my home and because I believe in helping local shop owners who are part of the comminuties we live in. But to be faced with this type of treatment over few $$$ (coffee money), come on!!! I am not the type of customer who would kick a fuss over little things but I am the type of customer who whould simply leave but never return. In a small city like Boston, Everett, Malden word of mouth/referalls are key to any small business. They cam make it or break it.
