This place is lovely, so happy we stumbled upon it during our short stay in Sturbridge!! At first glance, it seems small and expensive (they usually have valet) but inside seems much bigger, and the food is very high quality for being in the middle of nowhere. It seems like the farm-to-table of sushi restaurants!! We tried a lot from the menu, and everything was incredible. The menu was a little difficult to navigate, which took some time ordering. And the most notable issue we faced was that the spicy salmon roll that came with the pretty expensive sushi dinner was not the same as my ala carte maki roll I ordered on a whim (mine was better) just to note. The gluten free options were slightly limited (a lot of their specialty rolls had tempura in them), but they had gluten free soy sauce! Our party of four (plus an eight-month-old) were getting very hungry as we finished walking around Sturbridge Village. We hoped to dine outside on this beautiful day, and after Yelping the options in Sturbridge, we selected Baba Sushi (there is also a Baba Sushi in Worcester, which is pronounced "Woostah" if you're indigenous to the area!). It was quiet at Baba, as we arrived too late for lunch and too early for dinner, so we scored a great table on their beautiful porch. Though the porch does face Route 20, we didn't find the noise to be problematic. For our appetizers we ordered Gyoza (very good, but not very hot), Vegetable Tempura (very tasty) and Edamame which was also good. We also tried the Kani Salad and the Sashimi Tartare. Both were very good, and the tartare was an impressively large portion of salmon and tuna sushi with avocado and mango. It supposedly included caviar, but I failed to see any in the dish. And we sampled the Salmon Sashimi, a Peacock Maki Roll and Sushi Sandwich Roll. The Salmon Sashimi was very good, and though I was not a fan of the Peacock Roll, another diner greatly enjoyed it. The Sushi Sandwich Roll was good, but not outstanding. The Tryaki Chicken was tender and tasty and the Fried Rice was light and nicely prepared. All the diners (except the eight-month-old who was more interested in dropping things on the floor than participating in a Yelp review discussion) thought Baba deserved four-stars for this visit. I've been to this location, twice. The parking is valet, and they ask for cash tips or venmo. The walk in front of the building is beautiful. Positives- I've only been here for Hot Pot, Sushi, and Appetizers. The Vegetable Platter in the Party of 2 is a huge portion for two people, the sushi is wonderful, It is easy to customize your options, and the staff is very nice. Negatives- It's expensive, and I don't think the desserts are worth the cost. The smaller tables are not enough room for all of the toppings, vegetables and meats (server had to bring us a tray to use beside our table). It took about 45 minutes for us to even receive any part of our order both times and it was not that busy. read more

I have come to this restaurant many times before and was extremely happy. Today when I came to celebrate my son's birthday, I cannot say the same. The chefs using electric zappers in the kitchen to kill flies constantly and the unpleasant swarms of fruit flies in the dining room was atrocious. The only thing that was good was our waitress and her herself was mortified. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant after today's experience. Unfortunately this restaurant has just gone down hill and I will continue to take my family to kaizen. All I can say is get rid of the electric zappers in the kitchen and get rid of the fruit flies in the dining room. No one wants to eat in that kind of atmosphere. The service here was wonderful. The food was also great. When I showed up, the lot was nearly full, and I accidentally parked in the employee parking area. Immediately afterwards one of the employees at the restaurant informed me that I was parked in the wrong spot, but said I could stay there and he would block me in. I should just let him know when I needed to leave and he would move his car. This guy was so cool about the whole thing, I felt like I should ask him questions about how to improve myself. Then, I was stupid enough to ask for outside seating while the sun was setting in September. Naturally, the mosquitoes were out. Our server, Jakob, comes out with bug spray, and saves the day. We went for my daughters birthday. It was incredibly loud, I think it's the acoustics of that room. The table wasn't totally clean, we didn't have silverware/napkin setups. The food was all very good and fresh. The service lacked. The hostess and our server seemed disinterested in being there. Our server never came back to see how things were, we wanted to order a couple more rolls. We waited and waited. Everyone was completely done when he finally showed up again. We ordered the rolls, again food was great. The bill was high and I don't mind that if you are getting the full experience of good service, food and atmosphere. We just won't go back. I went there for my sons birthday and one of things I really noticed was the maki sushi was a lot smaller than before. The hot pot broth we got was kimchee flavor without much flavor and tasted watered down. Cutting back on ingredients but increasing cost is not going to get you more business. If your prices go up then the quality should be the same in my book and I'm sure with 99.99 percent of all people. I hope the owner or establishment is reading and taking notes. Hopefully, they make a change. I gave it a 4 star due to the fact that food was still good overall...mostly the sushi but the portions were cut down and the broth was watered down, and the price was increased. Not the best Baba experience we have had. We have been going to Baba Sushi since they opened in Worcester. Sushi and cocktails are always excellent and I would never dream to complain about the quality of the food. However, last night we tried to the Hot Pot at the Sturbridge location - ordered the TomYum broth, and it was like getting water with a few cilantro leaves. We usually sit at the bar and this was no exception and we had the pleasure of being served by Fischer! Fischer is always on point with drinks, food or anything else you need. He is attentive without being overbearing. Another plus of sitting at the bar is you get to watch the experts making sushi. What knife skills!!! On to the food. We had the King roll which is Alaskan king crab. This is one of our go to rolls always a hit. We also had a spicy scallop roll and a rock and roll. All fresh and perfect!
