This was a really horrible experience. Baba has been one of our favorite local restaurants, and we come here on a frequent basis. Never again. Besides waiting 90 minutes after sitting down to even receive utensils, never mind place our orders, they ran out of sake containers and so couldn't serve it (which we found out an hour after ordering), the soup came out tepid, orders came out frozen, and then, after being sent back, came back out cold, drinks were forgotten and then took another 30 min to correct, to name just a few. To top it all off, the manager couldn't seem to care less. In the time we spoke with her, she barely seemed to pay attention, offered to comp out soup only, and even claimed to not be able to address the problem due to speaking a different language than the kitchen staff (as if what would help is the kitchen understanding they messed up). I struggle to remember another time I've felt less valued as a customer. I'm so disappointed to lose what was previously a go to spot. read more

Tried Baba tonight for the first time with my daughter she was craving sushi . I can say actually thanked her on the way home for wanting to give Baba a try . We got the lobster tempura , and crab rangoon wonderful start . She had her favorite roll , and kept making yummy sounds as she enjoyed her entree . I had the triple seafood teriyaki , and omg it was so good . The food fantastic , and our waiter Jake was outstanding , such a professional , and pleasant young man just enhanced the entire experience . We love baba sushi Sturbridge, so we were excited to try the Bolton location. So disappointed! Lacking atmosphere & service. Never checked on us. We constantly flagged the young waitress down to either order, ask for utensils or struggle with menu info. Staff is so young which suggests they have no experience in service. She was a nice girl but needs more training on interacting with customers. The sushi guy took large refill sauce containers handed to him with the same food gloves he had on to make sushi without swapping out his food gloves. Again inexperienced! Not a good practice especially when you can sit at a table where you can watch him work. They are all too young running the front of the house. No senior person in sight! No greetings at the door! The kitchen is another issue. Someone needs to train the cook staff on presentation and how to flavor the dishes like the other baba restaurants. We understand a new place needs time to get better but after 6months really??. You want customers to come back. I'll drive 1 hour to Sturbridge for their great tasting food and presentation of real sushi the way it should be, appetizing and pretty to look at. Will not return. Hopefully they get their act together soon. read more

I love Baba Sushi and Wilson. I go to the Worcester location and they all know me along with my father and uncle. We typically get sushi rolls not on the menu. If you go, try the oyster shooter! It will set the mood for the entire dinner. Don't be afraid to be adventurous here and ask the waiters and waitresses about specials and their favorite sushi on the menu. If you know someone that says "I will never eat sushi" bring them here and give them the Hairu maki with cream cheese (instead of avocado)... I have gotten 7 out of 7 people to love sushi with that roll.. so far. They also have this cute back area of the restaurant that, I will be honest, is colder in the winter if you don't sit under the heaters, but in the summer... it's relaxing and nice. Oh, and just a note.. on the weekends, ALWAYS call in a reservation during the day so you can have a seat. If you walk in on the weekend, expect to be standing really close to a bunch of people you don't know since the waiting area is small. read more

The restaurant is a restored two story older home which has preserved the colonial spirit of many of the older homes in the town of Sturbridge. Once inside there is an entirely more modern slightly upscale vibe going on. Seating at the sushi bar is quite large by comparison to most restaurants and there are a number of high top tables in that area as well. Adjacent to the sushi bar is a nice size dining area offering more privacy or it would be well suited for special events. On the second floor there is additional seating overlooking the the sushi bar area this too could be used for special events if needed. Over all a great deal of thought went into the architectural design, layout and ambience created within the restaurant space and you can't help but be impressed with what has been created. I started with a mixed green salad with ginger dressing which was very good followed by Seafood Tom Yum which I thought was excellent the spice level was one of the hottest in my experience but I loved it. The fresh seafood and vegetable ingredients were superb especially note worthy were the scallops which were sweet and absolutely delicious. The broth was very good my only comment is I would have preferred a little more tamarind for a bolder more sour note. Next to arrive was the Holiday Maki consisting of a Cali Roll, Avocado Tuna Roll and Unagi Roll, all were fresh, delightful and tasty as was the accompanying sauces. The price point is higher than most sushi restaurants, however; the quality I felt more than justified the additional incremental price increase. Baba Sushi is worth a trip if you are a serious sushi devotee as you will find items on their menu seldom found elsewhere. read more

Ordered online for pickup, get to the restaurant and wait for 30 minutes after it was supposed to be ready because the kitchen "didn't get my order". Let me show you my receipt then. Finally get it only to find something was missing once I got home.. Oh, and the food was worse than the service. Spicy salmon rolls weren't spicy (because they forgot the mayo) and the lettuce in the shrimp tempura rolls did nothing except cause the roll to disintegrate and taste like wet paper. I'm just going to be down right honest right now...I love Kaizen SO much, that I never thought I'd even try Baba Sushi, but I did- and guess what?!?!? It's equally perfect!!!! 2 sushi spots, so close to each other, and both sooooo good! But the cocktail/martini menu at Baba is the best, and there's lots of space/seating bc it's huge inside and I love that too!!! Great bar, great atmosphere. I'm sorry it took me so long to review it bc we've been going here regularly for the last year! I've tried almost all the martinis, but their simple martini is my fave. I'm not giving 5 stars only because during one visit, we were seated in a claustrophobic nook next to the kitchen entrance and it seemed like our waitress kept forgetting about us. However, the theme - Asian hot pot- is done to perfection. Typically the servers are very knowledgeable and helpful. EVERY ONE OF THE BROTHS for dipping is better than the next; you can't go wrong! The seafood is fresh, and the meat, though frozen in order to be sliced thinly, always cooks up beautifully. The star is enoki mushrooms! Craft cocktails are exceptional. Valet parking and convenient location. Often crowded, reservations suggested. read more

Baba sushi is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING . We went close to opening, and being brand new....it was off. What did the owner do? Free bottles of sake , free food for all, and everyone left happy. We went back 5 days later.... service? PERFECT!!! Food, BEYOND AMAZING .. absolutely the best. The sushi far beats any I've had, nearest place I have had that quality is in Armonk NY , other than their Worcester location. They make food as they go, my wife is vegan...meet every single need and know ingredients of everything, very important for anyone with an allergy or vegetarian/ vegan needs. Worcester has always been great, Kaizan just down the way is deplorable...not once but 5 times we have had bad fish there....I've given it enough tries. Definitely feel super lucky they have moved into the area...i do plan to go very often Fish quality 110%, the display of the sushi is utter art! I have visited hundreds of sushi places all over the US and Guam. This is by far, the best. Fresh, delicious, creative, with incredibly well plated dishes. Beautiful work. I will absolutely return. I hope it was just a bad day for babas. The dining room had a good crowd but the bar was quiet. The drinks and food is usually phenomenal. But they changed my favorite drink once again (the diablo) and the portions seemed small and not as fresh as were used to. I hope it was a one off and not any shortcuts they're taking long term. I don't mind mediocre but not at babas for the price we pay. Usually it's worth it. Thursday was an exception. read more

Best sushi I've had! Got the tuna roll and it came with a slice of tuna on top of the roll. So good! Visiting from New Hampshire. Miso soup was also great. We waited 15 minutes until someone asked if we had been helped, then another 5 for someone to offer us water. After 20+ minutes, a server came over and no apology or even greeting. Just a "are you ready to order?" When the server took our sushi order. We expressed we would like to order dinner upon the arrival of our sushi order. She delivered our food but then walked away without taking our dinner order and left for another 20 minutes before asking how we were doing. We mentioned good and as we were about to order, she left and didn't come back for another 15 minutes. Therefore, we just got the bill and left. I'm glad we saved 60 bucks and not by giving it to the restaurant. Decor and ambience is nice, sushi was decent although nothing in comparison to our Boston favorites. But perhaps guests will have better luck at the bar. read more

Absolutely excellent. One of the best restaurants on the route 20 strip -- which has many great choices. They have wonderful and unusual sushi combinations that I have not had before. One of my favorites is an appetizer. The Sushi Spring Roll is fresh -- not fried. The rolls made of cucumber are filled with steamed shrimp, crab, and mango -- topped with massago and honey wasabi sauce. Also try the Spicy Seafood Salad Medley of sashimi-style seafood mixed with cucumber, massago, and chili sauce. We all enjoyed the Sushi Sandwich, which is layered tuna, salmon, sushi rice & nori with wasabi miso sauce. I think that you get the idea. Fun combinations of very fresh sushi. read more

Can only speak for the Japanese side of the menu and for specialty drinks. Their sashimi is nothing overly unique however they have an extensive maki list with some really good options. Appetizers and other menu items are on the typical side but are done really well. The selection of specialty drinks is amazing and the care into top shelf ingredients is unbelievable. The place is beautiful and atmosphere is always uplifting. An absolute must try if you're in the area. read more

I went here for the first time last week. I tried the hot pot and it was lit! For those who never had a hot pot. You pick your broth, your meat, the give you vegetables and you go to town. I enjoyed experimenting with the different sauces. As for the restaurant the decor is modern and gives an ambience that is slightly higher than casual. The staff was helpful and friendly as he walked me through the steps of the hot pot. I will be coming back soon. read more

I used to love this place but it has gone downhill. During our last visit, it took an hour and a half for them to even take our food order, they ran out of sake carafes and thus couldn't serve us sake, and our dishes and miso soup arrived cold to the table (one dish was still partly frozen). When we complained, we were told by the manager that she couldn't understand what happened at the kitchen because she "didn't speak Mandarin" (shrugging off responsibility and seemingly making a slightly racist comment about her own staff). Absolutely awful service and food, and I doubt any of us will ever come back even though they offered us gift cards. read more

I had a really delicious spicy seafood salad that I'll be sure to reorder if I get to come back to baba sushi as my husband and I came during a visit to Sturbridge. I really liked the presentation and freshness of the food, I also got the spicy salmon roll (not the maki just regular sushi) and I would reorder that too. I would have loved to give this place 4 stars but the service was bad, like really bad. We walked in here as a big group, starving. We ordered a bunch of drinks, which took about 20 min to come. Our waiter had great intentions and a great attitude, but it seemed like he was new, and could not handle our group. Sometimes he got the drinks wrong, and just kept forgetting to bring us water, even if we asked 3 times. He also forgot our drink orders at times. The food here was actually pretty good, I had the nigiri sushi set. There are so many different types of rolls as well, and the rolls are good. I also had the beef tataki which was great. The food took at least 45 min to arrive, I am not sure why it took so long. And it took another 40 min just to pay the bill. We told our waiter in advance that we wanted to split the bill, and he told us at the end of the meal that his computer did not allow him to split the bill and give us separate checks. Next he attempted to split it by hand and grouped people wrongly. That took 20 min. Then we told him how to split it correctly. After another 20 min, we gave up and went to the cashier to hunt him down. He was very apologetic. Some people in our group were getting sleepy from just waiting for him to figure out the bill which took at least 40 min. We also found the manager and talked to her about this but she did not care. Overall, the food was good, but service was bad. I felt a little bad for the waiter to be honest. Nice guy who was overwhelmed. I feel like newer staff like him should be assigned to smaller tables and less tables. And only super experienced staff should be assigned to large groups. read more

Tried Baba for the 2nd time after their competitor was closed. Very impressed by the overall experience. Our waitress was great, checked on us throughout without being overbearing, food came out quickly and was great! For 2 appetizers, 5 different Maki rolls and 2 desserts it was just under $90.
