I'm back! This is the best hot pot restaurant in the state. If is located on 310 Prospect St. in Hartford, CT. This is AYCE for $33 and they now have sushi! For our appetizers, we are having the cucumber salad and vegetable dumplings. Like most hot pot places, they have a sauce bar and niece a new mini bar with fruit, salad and friend items. Complementary ice water is immediately served. The cucumbers are crunchy and delicious! I actually liked the vegetarian dumplings! Well, with a little soy sauce, of course! For my first drink, I'm having their world famous (well, I love it) Stateside Lychee Martini. We use Grey Goose. They make it with Bella Spritz Elderflower Liqueur and fresh lychees. This is filled to the rim! I love the fresh lychees! This is good! For my soup bases, I'm having the Chengdu Hot & Spicy soup made with bay leaves, fennel, Szechuan peppers, chili peppers, star aniseed, scallion and ginger. I'm also having the ChongQing Butter Pot. This is going to be a hot and spicy meal. They do have plenty of vegetarian options. The sushi was good btw. For my next drink, I'm having a French Martinj made with Tito's Handmade Vodka (Goose for us), Chambord and a splash of pineapple juice. This is cutely garnished and tastes great! For dessert, I am having the Coppa Pistacio which is custard gelato swirled with chocolate and pistachio gelato topped with praline pistachios. This is ice cold and yummy! For my last drink, I'm having Mango Martini made with Absolut Vodka (Grey Goose for us), Cointreau, mango syrup, and a splash of pineapple and cranberry juice. If you're new to hot pot, I encourage you to try it out. I came here with three others on a snowy weekend. All of us have lived in China, so this was a fun time for us. The menu is online, viewable by scanning the QR code in your booth, and at the end then you pay at the cashier not through the website. We each ordered the mini hotpot with two broths and got a table full of meats and veggies and even ordered a second round of meat (in hindsight, that was too much and we weren't able to finish it all). The sauce bar was fully stocked, and the ingredients were fresh. The bowls and spoons were a bit hard to find though and I had to ask for a staff member for help. The fruit bar was a bit empty, but there was enough for a dessert. The wait staff was very friendly, though they kept forgetting to refill our water, and we kept asking them about it. I had a great time and experience coming with my grandparents. I have only been to a hot pot once, which was china town in Boston, and I am tired of going to the same restaurants eating the same food all the time so I surprised them with hot pot. My grandmother was certainly outside of her element and I think she was pre-determined to not like it here. My grandfather was indefinite liking the concept of something new but also unsure what to get when opening the menu. I too was a little concerned when it came to choosing what broth to pick as most did not particularly interest me. I couldn't help but laugh while teaching my grandma how to use chopsticks. She got the hang of it but used silverware some of the time. Grandfather and I were proficient at it. I like the all you can eat concept. You can order a little at a time and continuously keep eating. Food was fresh and delicious. I picked a single pot of the herbal broth, my grandma had a single of the tomato and my grandfather did one of each in a two tray pot. I particularly liked how you could choose 1,2,3, or for broths and they all came in their own section. We stuck to mostly vegetables. Got lamb, flounder and meatballs for protein. Ramen and some other noodle (which I wasn't a fan of). I was very pleased with all of it and ordered a second tray of broccoli. If this is your first hot pot experience, just remember foods cook at different speeds. Meat should be quick and some of the vegetables take much longer. Decent hot pot, authentic to a fault Came here to try a different take on hot pot vs our standard locations. So we made the trek to try this place out. The staff was incredibly friendly and nice. Always made sure that we knew the ordering system and the dishes they offered. We scanned the qr code, put in our orders and made our way to the sauce bar. The location is very 1990s dining experience. It's dark with spotlights, doors opened to let a breeze come through, fruit flies darting around the sauce bar. It's a blast from the past and slightly grungy. The sauce bar had some hot items that were cold. Sesame balls and egg rolls that died some time ago. Sauces were covered and room temp, but again nothing too far gone. We order a selection of their dishes, they have a lot of traditional ingredients like fish balls, tripe, and heart. We stayed to the more common ingredients like beef and mushrooms and tofu just to be safe. The broths we get are perfectly seasoned, which is good cause we didn't want to go to the sauce bar again, The food was okay, we cooked it all ourselves using the hot pot to boil everything. The flavors were good, but there wasn't a good selection of ingredients to try for us, especially since you only get the option for all you can eat. This was my first visit here since they switched to an all you can eat menu, and I was so impressed! The ambiance is really calm and makes it really easy to have a conversation with the people you're there with, I loved the decor and the sauce bar was plentiful. The broth was absolutely incredible, I noticed real spices in it like star anise and bay leaves which was refreshing to see because some competing places will use a very basic soup base. But this place really changed my mind with their affordable individual $22 hot pot combo which includes your choice of 2 proteins and a HUGE vegetable platter. We had a large group of us and each decided to order one Sauce bar: included and well stocked Service: OUTSTANDING! Very attentive (Refilled our broths many times and helped celebrate a birthday) Food: Broths were pretty good. I would give this restaurant 0 stars if I could. I've been here a few times and I've had no issues with any of the employees until today. I went here for lunch and everything was fine (so I thought). I paid for my meal with my debit card and signed my receipt. I usually tip in cash but I did not have any on me, so I wasn't going to leave a tip via my debit card because I wasn't sure if my server would actually receive it. As I was leaving, the bald guy with the glasses who works here chased me down at the door in front of the entire restaurant, waving my receipt and saying, "You're not going to tip?" while standing in the way until I wrote a tip on the receipt. So happy to have finally tried Han! My first hot pot experience and will not be the last. My sisters and I had absolutely no clue how to order or what to get. Luckily the staff at Han patiently explained how everything worked and even made suggestions. I wish I knew the man's name that helped us but he was so great to us! To start we got the chengdu dumplings. They were so flavorful- they were gone instantly! Totally will get these again! Among the three of us we shared the 2 flavor classic hotpot. My favorite soup based flavor was the chengdu hot and spicy soup! Packs a punch but it is so tasty! We got orders of beef, chicken and shrimp balls with this. We all agreed that the beef was the star of the show and we would just opt for that next time as the other items we ordered weren't nearly as good. Cool thing about hot pot is designing your own sauces. It was so fun to mix and match different flavors. I also really liked that they had a cook time menu so that you knew on or about how long to cook everything for. My go to protein is shrimp with rice cakes, enoki mushrooms and broccoli (super basic tik-tok i feel like) with the mushroom clear soup but it's so yummy!! My daughter decided she wanted "hot pot" for her birthday, so we found this place in Hartford. There was a great selection of foods, both on the menu and on the appetizer buffet, so we all found something to eat...but it was challenging to figure out how to get started as total newbies to the experience. A few weeks ago, I attended a large Hot Pot Dinner organized by a friend in Han's private back room. We had about 25 people split among 3 special hot pot tables. Hot Pot is a choose your own adventure dinner in which you select and prepare meats, seafood, veggies, etc. in hot broth at your specially equipped table. Hot Pot is a cool group activity, which actually provides a variety of experiences throughout the night. In the Arrival Phase, you're mixing with friends until everybody is there. Then everybody separates into tables and you're in the Decision Phase. Are you ordering a bunch of stuff and sharing? Are you ordering an individual meal? What broth or broths are you choosing? Our table ordered individually, but the table next door ordered family style. I ordered two broths which were served in a two compartment pot. Chengdu and "Pickle Jar" were my broths. Both were pretty good. My combo dinner included shrimp, steak, an egg, bok choy, carrots, mushrooms, other veggies, noodles etc. After ordering, you're in the Sauce Phase. There is a bar with sweet, sour and salty sauces such as Soy, Vinegars, Sesame, Hot, Hoisin, Chili Sauce, etc. and some solids such as fresh herbs. You mix these ingredients to create your own perfect combinations. The next phase is the Cooking Phase, when everybody starts heating their raw food in the boiling seasoned broth. For experienced Hot Potters, cooking may be old hat and you can carry on a normal conversation. As a newbie, I had to ask Experts for advice, plan and concentrate as I decided what to cook and for long. When you prepare your own food, the blame largely lies with you if things aren't perfect. For the things that Han controlled like broth flavor, ingredient presentation, quality and freshness, they did a good job. Although I'm not an experienced Hot Pot customer, I actually see a lot of pics and video clips of Hot Pot experiences because I follow myriad IG food bloggers who are well versed in World Cuisine and Hot Pot. Given that, I would rate the unprepared food and broth at 4 Stars out of 5. I enjoyed the food and the experience. Han has a cool atmosphere and I'm not aware of another good Hot Pot option in the greater Hartford area. Service was friendly. Like many places now, it seems like Han is short-staffed. This is my first hot pot experience, I was thrilled. My dear friend Jen took the pain of organizing this wonderful event for us to enjoy and I can't thank her enough for it. A family style dining, around the holidays was so warm... the whole experience was very authentic I must say!! The process of cooking your food and mixing up your own sauce to create a dish to your liking.. was so fun. It puts you incharge.... If you don't like it... you know who's fault that was ?? Such a clever idea!! I know many people are going to shy away from the fact that you have to WORK to plate your own meal, but trust me it's worth it and you are in for a good time. I loved the interaction with food, friends/family ..it was such an engaging experience. The menu is extensive, you start by choosing from the 8 broths .. spice level, optional veggie broth etc. Once they place that in the heating bin in front of you, and broth boils then the fun begins. You can pick an array of proteins and fresh vegetables that swim/cook in the hot broth. Instructions and cooking times are given to you... before all of this you start at the dipping station, where you can put together your own combination of sauce, oils... that will enhance the flavor experience. It's been far too long since our last visit but this isn't a place you do takeout. It's fun hotpot. We got a private room in back for our big party with more food then we could eat. The mini hotpot combos give broth, two meats and a whole lotta veggies. It's a steal for all the food. I got a mini with two flavors. Go for the hot and spicy one. The tomato broth was also good. The spicy beef was perfect in the broth. Don't miss the apps. The dumplings at all of the Shu restaurants are amazing and these are no different. Loved them. And we got the spicy potatoes (which are fries) which weren't actually as spicy at the ones at Song. Service felt a bit understaffed but they came thru when we needed them. Upping this to a five because everything in my past review rings true on how great Han is. I wanted to commend Han again. I recently got to experience the big room at Han holding up to 28 people. It was a great way to have a bigger occasion which for us was a bunch of foodies enjoying hotpot together and even some trying for the first time. The manager and staff even took the time to introduce and teach "hotpot 101" by request and shared ways to prevent cross contamination. We were able to get vegetarian, gluten free, and seafood free people able to try hotpot and not have an allergic reaction. The first time I tried hot pot was at hungry pot in Wethersfield. While that restaurant hits the spot I felt it was always lacking in depth of flavor. Not Han. Han has that amazing fresh Chinese (but the real) Chinese flavor my daughter and I search for while traveling and at home. The sauce bar is incredible and every bite I had was amazing when I mixed my garlic, chili oil and chiles together. So fun! Our daughter told us we had to try hot pot - and we were glad we did!! We all got our ow individual broths (ranging from mushroom to spicy) and the assortment of veggies with a choice of two proteins. The gentleman working there was amazing - showed us how to cook the meat, took dad up to the sauces and made us his version of spicy and sweet and sour. They were both fantastic! So much fun. I had been wanting to try Hot Pot for a while and jumped when my Yelpie Friend Jen suggested an outing to Han. The owner Philip was so friendly and explained how everything worked. I decided to go with the split Hot Pot with two soups. I went with Chengdu hot and spicy soup & the Tomato based Sour Soup. And since it was my first time I went with the Combo which comes with a choice of two proteins a platter filled with a section of veggies and tofu. I also added an order of the fish tofu to add to my hot pot. So once you've put your order in you then head over to the Sauce Station where you can mix up your own personal dipping sauce from a plethora of ingredients. They do have 2 premade selections and some recipe cards on the wall if you're afraid to make up your own creation. Now back to the table to wait for your food to arrive. Once they put your soup onto the table turn the heating source on so it gets nice and bubbly and then start putting your veggies in to cook. I added the veggies that took longer to cook in immediately like potatoes and broccoli. And then I dipped the meat in and some of the other quick cooking items with my chopsticks. Once an item was cooked to my desired temperature I plucked it out and dipped it into my sauce. And then directly into my mouth it went. The Chengdu Broth was spicy and delicious.... perfect heat level for me with a little bit of a slap in the face and unlady like forehead perspiration but maybe not for others. Once dipped into my spicy dipping sauce a little rice was needed from time to time. The Tomato based Sour Soup I think was my favorite because it didn't compete with my spicy dipping sauce. I will definitely get that one again and maybe try another broth with it. One of my friends at the table did get a side of Chinese Sausage Fried rice and it was absolutely delicious. Han has an extensive menu of essential hot pot items from delicious fish balls stuffed with roe to fatty thin slices of lamb and TONS of different mushrooms you have probably never heard of before. The choices are endless and you can always order more! The manager and staff always takes care of their customers and ensures a responsive experience every time! They seat us quickly and in no time our food and broth comes out for us to enjoy! I'm a huge fan of the mushroom clear soup and the cream soup! When it comes to hot pot, I prefer for my sauce to be spicy more than my broth. Their sauce bar is always so clean. I appreciate the extra effort they put into maintaining it by wiping it down so frequently and keeping it stocked. My favorite items on the menu to order are the udon noodles, clams, mussels, baked fish cake, lamb, fatty beef, shrimp paste, and enoki mushrooms! I highly recommend ordering the combo if it's your first time. Mini and traditional tabletop hot pots are their specialty and guaranteed to warm you up on the cold nights of December here in Connecticut. I love the food from all the restaurants from Phillip. Shu and Song are the other 2 restaurants from the same owner. Chengdu dumplings is a nice spicy appetizer. Scallion pancakes are really good as well. Han chicken wing is crispy. It is made fresh after ordering. So it will take 20 minutes. I generally go for the mini hot pot combo for the main course. Beef and lamb are my favorite protiens. MaLa Pickled vegetable broth is my favorite broth. It is spicy but not too spicy for me. I felt chengdu hot & spicy soup is a bit too spicy for me. There are many sauces in the sauce station, which you can pick up to add flavor to the food. If you are not sure how to do it, Phillip is very patient in explaining how it all works. This is my favorite place to take friends, especially if they've never had hot pot. I always describe it as "fun food." With the individual hot pots, each person picks a broth (or two), you share the meat, vegetables, noodles however you want--everyone satisfies personal sauce preferences at the condiment buffet. This was a fun experience! The staff was wonderful, and very helpful! Being our first time here, we had a lot of questions, and our server was very accommodating! There were 4 of us, and we all got the double broth with 2 proteins and a huge platter of assorted veggies (each person had their own platter). So. Much. Food! We ended up taking 3 of the platters boxed and to go. There's a buffet table towards the back with every imaginable condiment you could want. I went with garlic, chili sauce, chili oil, and sesame oil. It was wonderful as my dipping sauce for the pork and shrimp I got. We will definitely be back. Some people think of hot pot as "just soup" but to me, it's all the vegetables I want to eat prepared and brought out to me with such speed that sometimes I wonder, why ever make soup at home? Hans is my favorite relatively local spot to get hot pot. The staff is always friendly and helpful when inquiries are made. We love bringing people unfamiliar with hot pot with us. We like that there are individual induction burners but there is a small room where you can do family style or have a large party (I think it's 8 or 10 for the table). read more

I've been wanting to experience a hot pot dinner for a while, so I was excited to visit Han Restaurant recently. My group of 8 was seated in the private back room. After our server kindly explained the menu, my table was ready to order - we each picked our broth, protein, and any additional veggie or side. I chose to have a combo with the Wild Pepper Pickled Vegetable broth, chicken as my protein, and some udon noodles. While our food was being prepared, we went to make our dipping sauces. This process was trial and error for me - first and second sauces were terrible, but my third and fourth were good. When the food was ready for us to cook, the process was very simple, but the table was a little too cluttered. The amount of veggies that came with the combo was a LOT. I ended up taking boxes of them home to add to my compost pile. My broth was spicier than I wanted, but the overall flavor of everything was great. My reason for the 4 stars is because my table seemed to be forgotten about. We were never really checked on, and it took a really long time for our server to give us the bill and for us to pay. It was obvious that the restaurant was short-staffed. Overall, I think a hot pot experience is worth giving a try at least once. read more

This restaurant has a nice intimate interior with dim lighting, although maybe a bit too dim. When I walked in I wasn't sure if they were open. They serve hot pot as well as other Chinese dishes. They have combos and lunch special which seems like a good deal for mini hot pot. I had a large dual pot to share with Chinese herbal soup and the spicy mala pickled vegetable soup. They can adjust the spicy levels and make any of their soup stock vegetarian which is a plus. The flavor of the two soups I chose were lacking in flavor, but it might be due to the fact that I opted for the vegetarian version. Since each ingredient is a la cart it can get expensive quickly. The vegetables were fresh and the fish/shrimp were probably frozen but they were good. I liked the shrimp paste and the potato noodles. There is a sauce station where you can mix your own dip. They have different recipes posted. Service was a bit lacking. There aren't many hot pot restaurants in Connecticut, so there aren't many options for hot pot. It does the trick when you want hot pot, but the broth I chose lacked flavor. However, the non-vegetarian version might be better. read more
