I have only been to this exact Babes twice in about 6 years and decided to try the catfish for the first time. I found out there was an extra crispy option. It was tasteful and decent. However the customer service was unwelcoming of an environment. Upon the first 10 minutes of my order being put out, I was on my second spoonful of mashed potatoes when I was handed the check at my table. I was asked for desert and I said yes to go. I clearly was not near finished with my 4 pieces of catfish because I just finished the first piece. Then the waitress took the receipt back as I kindly requested another plate. Keep in mind the catfish is 16.99. Yet on the second order of catfish I paid the same price to find out I received 1/2 of the first order as they were slivers of catfish. Very interesting of an experience I may add. As I was asking for more greens and corn bread, I noticed the other 5 tables were not given the same service. This specific staff on TH night does not value an all inclusivity nor do they appreciate diversity in there restaurant. Careful as well, I was told the Roanoke location is faster because the table next to me waited for 15 minutes and they said " seems like our food has gone missing and I'm going to need to speak to someone about their service" I reassured the table it could be because they were busy yet actually there were 6 waiters and 7 other tables. I would recommend the managers to be more efficient & effective to create a more professional experience and environment for all future customer and clients. Not recommended for poor service and lack of equity to support the community. This may be a family dining setting, yet it's absolutely not a place where I would choose to take my family after this experience. read more

(Please don't take this comment as hyperbole. I am a chicken strip fanatic. It's my main food group. I've had chicken strips at dozens and dozens of restaurants. These are the best. It's been a year and a half and I still think about them when I'm eating other chicken strips that just aren't as good.) All the other food was great too. It's served family-style on a big lazy Susan in the middle of the table. They give you plastic sacks to take your extras home. The staff was personable and friendly. Great food and service for many years. One of our favs! When it came time to have my mother in law's birthday party there was no wondering who I would have cater it. They did a fantastic job. Showed up on time, set up was seamless, the servers were extremely friendly, and helpful. They cleaned up as if they were never there - with the exception of packing up the leftovers for us. Only downside being that we can't go to our local location in Sanger for family meals anymore due to the noise level. It's virtually impossible to have a conversation with anyone other than the persons on either side of you when the music is too loud. We always loved the live music, and many times knew the local performers, but the loudness prevents any visiting - so unless its just us we choose another restaurant - sadly. read more

Note: this restaurant is BYOB! They do not serve alcohol. Fun and different. No menu because they have 5 main meats with family style sides. Bottomless biscuits and salad -- more food than any healthy person should eat. It's all family style -- two people could easily share one of the meats. Of course we didn't share and ate ourselves sick. We took home some items that were left. But no take out containers --only bags oddly reminiscent of doggy poop bags. That didn't stop us though! Quite surprised this restaurant hasn't been reviewed more than twice. I have to assume it is because Sanger is another small town amongst many many small towns around this part of Texas. If you didn't know about this place, it is doubtful you would stumble upon it randomly. Ordering food at Babe's is made very easy. You get your choice of fried chicken, smoked chicken, chicken fried steak, fried catfish, fried chicken tenders or pot roast. I feel the cholesterol building inside me just typing that. This comes with bottomless salad, homemade (damn good) biscuits, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and green beans. Still hungry? A group of us on our end of the table ordered the fried chicken. I posted a picture. The chicken was very crispy, not too oily, but it was a bit too salty for my tastes. If they could just dial back the salt, it might have been close to perfect. Regardless I still think I had 4 pieces. When food is placed in front of me, I eat it. There are bags on the wall to take food home with you. We took some chicken and a good deal of biscuits. Ended up eating a biscuit the next day and it was still good. Not sure how they would be 2 days on. This is a good place to take a large group of people. Family style food served with a smile. My son and I stopped in here on a whim heading back home on a road trip. This place is awesome! We had an order of fried chicken and an order of chicken tenders. The chicken is as good as any you will find, but the sides are where it's at. The butter milk biscuits are some of the best I've had. The CORN is hands down the BEST! It's kind of creamed style mixed with whole kernel. It is fresh off the cob. Lots of butter served home style and I would eat a bowl of it by myself right now if I could. You come here for chicken and you get piles of it. And it is all good. It is a really simple place with six simple choices. Fried chicken, chicken strips, pot roast, chicken fried steak, fried catfish and smoked chicken. I have had all but the steak. All are really good. The food is served family style and so are all the sides. Green Beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes with gravy, green salad and some of the best biscuits around. They do have dessert too, but everytime I have gone, I am so full that there is absolutely no room for any. Great atmosphere with cut outs of Elvis, old signage, Texas things and pic-nic bench seating. You will wait. There is no doubt about that, because people always come there. Just look for the big chicken out front. Umm, one word to describe how I feel about this place...love! It's family style, so you pick your main course and they bring out all the sides, which are bottomless. Our options that day were fried catfish, chicken fried steak, fried chicken and chicken tenders. Probably something else as well, but we knew we were getting chicken tenders. They brought out a heaping plate of fresh, crisp tenders, as well as sides of sweet corn, green beans, mashed potatoes and cream gravy and biscuits. Food heaven, for sure. I'm a sucker for sides, and these were great...especially the savory green beans and sweet corn (not really creamed corn). However, the chicken tenders were off the chain. Perfectly fried and just flat out delicious. Paired with the sweet tea...oh yeah, that's some good stuff. My friends and I split the chocolate meringue pie for dessert. It was served warm and although I was stuffed, I couldn't resist a few bites before my food coma set in. I was able to snag some chicken tenders to go, but they won't let you take home the rest of your sides. That was the only bummer. If it's your first time, ordering might be confusing. When you sit down, your server will ask for your meat orders. You don't get a menu or order any sides; all sides are just brought out with the meal family style. You also don't get to see the prices (although I'm sure they'd tell you if you asked). Honestly, this was the best fried chicken I've ever had. Perfectly crispy on the outside but still moist and tender on the inside. Every piece of chicken was fried perfectly. The catfish and smoked chicken were both just as perfect, exploding with flavor. The only complaint I heard from my family was that the chicken was a touch too salty, but my parents have always preferred more bland food. As good as the meat was, I personally liked the sides even more. With the meat, we got corn, potatoes, biscuits, and green beans, all of which were perfect. Unfortunately, they don't let you take any of the sides to go, so make sure you get your fill of them while you're there! As you can see in the photos, the portions sizes are extremely generous. We ordered for five people and all of us were completely stuffed by the time we left, carrying two bags of unfinished fried chicken. If you're with a group, I would recommend ordering a variety of meat, as you'll get enough to share all of them and each option is amazing! I can't wait for the next time I'm in the area. It was just ok. We risked it by showing up 30 min before closing at 3:00 on Sunday. The chicken was overdone, the green beans were burnt or scraped off the bottom and the corn was old mush. The location was darling and our server was great!
