It really is one of the best kept secrets in North Texas. Normally only open for breakfast and lunch, it's open on Friday night for burgers and all you can eat catfish! You can get the catfish in smaller portions, and a full 8 piece might be all you need! It's small and country style. If there's only 2-3 of you, you might be asked to sit with others, so be ready to be friendly! If you are asked, you DEFINITELY want the beans (and the green tomato salsa if they have it!) Plan on coming early, or you will have a wait! You can wait across the street, in the covered pavilion. Get the dessert! Go on, you won't feel bad! Eating at Greenwood grocery is like taking a step back in time. The handful of tables remind me of something my granny had in her kitchen many years ago. I was recommended by a patient to try out Greenwood grocery and made a trip out to check it out. It's a Small county cafe with traditional burgers, fries, tots, chicken fried steak/chicken fried chicken as staples on their menu. They have daily specials and within 30 minutes of our arrival the restaurant was packed with locals who were ready to eat. Staff were kind and efficient and our food came out quickly and our order was correct with the small adjustments we made (no tomato or onion on the burger, add bacon, onion rings instead of tots). Burgers were flavorful and onion rings were nice and crispy. You could see them punch out the fries upon each order so you know they are fresh. We managed to snag the last buttermilk pie and man was it tasty! Would highly recommend coming to check this place out if it's on your route. read more

I found this place looking for fried fish. We arrived at lunch on Friday to learn be fish is only available on Saturday evenings. We tried a burger and onion rings. The burger was seasoned very well, the size was fantastic for today, and onion rings were an amazing compliment. I have since made this a regular spot to eat. I tried the sweet tater tots the second visit and now have a regular order. Burger and tater tot fries. I am completely full when I leave after eating that meal. The employees are sweet, attentive and patient. The owner is friendly and truly cares about her customer's experience. My husband and I went yesterday for our first time. The motorcycle ride was Divine! As we travelled on CR 2740 to Greenwood it reminded us of the country side in Kentucky. We arrive to the very beautiful and charming community of Greenwood. Greenwood Grocery is absolutely worth the drive and the food. The best thing about small town eateries is the food and community. We felt so welcomed when we arrived. You order at the counter, sit where you like and leave your introvert self at home. We sat down and almost immediately someone started chatting with us. How cool is that? Come with an APPETITE!!! FOOD was DELICIOUS! My husband had the ham and cheese omelet, hash browns, biscuits and gravy. I had the pancakes, and bacon. I had one pancake because these are Texas size pancakes. We are definitely coming back for breakfast, lunch for burgers and on a Saturday for the catfish fry! This historic place serves a top-notch old fashioned hamburger. The bun is large and will hold all of the fixings you choose for your Hamburger. The meat patty is cooked on a griddle and is large and tender. Make sure to try the french fries, tater tots, sweet potato tots, or fried dill pickles all of which are exceptional. We never have room for the homemade pies but they look great. Saturday night is open till 8 for fried fish. Today's daily plate special was Meatloaf mashed potatoes and vegetable all for 6.95 the plate lunches looked incredible but we always go for the hamburgers. We really enjoyed eating here and will, probably, return. We had just finished shooting at Fossil Pointe and had to hurry to get here before they closed at 2:00, but it was all worth it. My buddies ordered hamburgers and fries and I ordered the daily special (brisket sandwich, onion rings and beans). The hamburgers were, reportedly, very good and they loved the fries. Went to Greenwood Grocery after shooting and we were so happy we did. This was the rural TX small town place we always look for. Amazing fresh ground really big burgers, home made BBQ sauce on the tables made even better. Fried pickles (my favorite) were crunchy and delicious. Tots were fried perfectly. Greenwood Grocery is about 15 minutes northeast of Decatur in the small town of Greenwood. This hidden gem is well known to the locals and definitely worth seeking out. We went for the burgers (wife also loves their meatloaf) by forgot that Saturday night was live music and all-you-can-eat catfish night. The meal started with a bowl of red beans and a side of green tomato relish. Never had pickled tomato relish before but it was a great compliment to the beans. Then came the catfish platter complete with hush puppies, crisp coleslaw, and homemade fries. The fish was plump, white, tender, and perfectly seasoned. Each table had a bottle of their homemade tartar sauce, also amazing. Yes, it's all you can eat catfish but be sure to save room for a piece of homemade pie; chocolate, coconut, buttermilk, apple are some of the options but get 'em while they last. This place is a diamond in the rough! It's kind of out of the way but GREAT food! I think there are 3 or 4 generations of family working there. One of the best BIG OLD cheeseburgers and homemade fries I have ever eaten, Great chicken fried steak. We ride motorcycles there on a regular basis. They have a fish night there as well but you'd better get there early or you will be standing in line for hours! VERY reasonable prices. My friend and I ate there AGAIN today.
