While I was in San Antonio for a work trip, I wanted something that was local and not your typical fast food stop. I also knew that I wanted something that felt like home. So, I looked up a few places and found this gem not too far from work. I looked at the menu ahead of time, and new that they were good for their burgers, but I was really craving a chicken bacon and avocado sando. I pulled in, and went inside, definitely a cozy warm little vibe. I was greeted immediately and asked for the grilled chicken sandwich, add bacon, add cheese. However, they only had guac vs the avocado, and I opted out for that. I added a side of fries too, bc all the photos looked great. I took my food to go, and could not wait to get back to campus to dig in. This sandwich was soooo good. It was grilled just right, juicy tender, bacon crispy, cheese all melty. Add some lettuce, onion, pickle, with mayo, and it all just worked really great together! I do wish I had the avo, but I digress! The fries reminded me of home fries from 5 guys or other home made style fries. They stayed nice, hot and crispy for my drive back to work. This will definitely be a place I keep on the list when I'm in town visiting. Gotta try that burger next! read more

Came to babes for the first time and it didn't disappoint. There's nothing fancy about this place and that's exactly what it should be. We came around 11:30 am on a Friday and it wasn't very busy. Our order did take a while to come out. Regardless, everything came out right and fresh. The burger buns were perfectly toasted and gave the burger a great flavor. The fries were ok. We also had a side of fried jalapenos which were alright. Wouldn't get it again. We ate outside since the inside can get a bit smoky from the cooking but it's so loud out there! We were skeptical because of the area but let me tell you! The service was great! The staff was so friendly and quick! The place gave old time diner feel and I loved the vibe! They took the order and then on a wire glided it to the kitchen staff it was pretty cool! The food was pretty solid and again- typical diner, the burger was nice and greasy and great! The onion rings were alright, honestly I prefer mine a little thicker. I came here the other day after I dropped off my fiance at a Yelp Elite Event. This place was close by and had a good amount of parking. I found parking near the entrance. There were other parking spots a bit further if you you like to park away from other cars. There was only one group of people in line when I entered the restaurant. The have a system that an employee writes down your order and then passes it to the employee at the register. The only issue that I have with system is that you can't see their selection of drinks when you originally put in your order because the refrigerator where the drinks are around the corner. I originally ordered just a Chili Cheeseburger and a Twisted Tea for my meal. I then went around the corner to the register where I could see the rest of the beer selection. After seeing the full selection of beer, I decided to change my Twisted Tea to a Foster's. I also added a Onion Rings to my meal. They gave me the Foster's right away. I took a seat and waited for my food and had some of my Fosters. It was a typical large can of Fosters. Reminded me of a comedian that said Fosters is Australian for piss. I am not holding my poor choice of beer against Babes. I ordered the beer because I did not have one in years. I now can go another few years without having another Foster's. My name was announced shortly after that my food was ready. It is not really fast food speed but did come out quickly. I thought the chili burger had good taste and the onion rings were crispy. The place had a casual atmosphere. There were a few TVs thought the restaurant. Shortly after I finished my beer and burger, my fiance texted me that her Yelp Elite Event was over so I made my way out. There servers at the building will clear you table. Consider this while considering your tip when ordering. I recommend this place for a really good burger. read more

The police is very cool looking. It has a retro feel and things looked really promising. They tout "Chicago Style" pizza and burgers etc... We order a pizza and some sweet potato fries. The fries were crispy and super tasty. The pizza, however, was chalky and plain gross. The DiGionrno type pizza you get at the supermarket is better than this. Very disappointing. read more

Really disturbing experience at Babes yesterday. We watched a cook coughing over the food while preparing it, then heard him read a customer's order ticket out loud and say, "Okay, this one wants pu**bes** on hers." Completely disgusting and beyond inappropriate for anyone handling food. We weren't the only people disturbed either -- other customers nearby got up and left after hearing the comment. This seriously raised concerns about cleanliness and professionalism. I've already emailed management directly regarding the situation and hope it's addressed immediately. read more

Who doesn't love a local burger joint for lunch? Love the decor with the baseball cards in the tables and the jukebox in the corner. The cashier took care of us with a smile. And it's always fun to watch your orders fly on the cable to the kitchen. The kids enjoyed their burgers and fries. I devoured my club sandwich. And it doesn't hurt that kids eat free when adults buy and entree. So for our family of 4 it works out great. We will be back for lunch or dinner. Great for a family or with friends. read more

Food is about as solid as the smells you get if you sit near the restrooms. Came here as a suggestion from a friend(first and last time I take his suggestion lol). His desk is he likes how cheap their beer is. Their beer section is whack. Voodoo ranger is about it in terms of IPAs. Sat near the table closest to the tv near the restroom and got whiffs of raw sewage every time someone would open the door leading to the restrooms. Went to use the restroom to wash my hand and can confirm the smell is coming from the sanitary sewer line under the restroom. The burger itself was jut "aite." Had fried mushrooms also as an app which I figured "how can you mess that up, it's literally mushrooms with fried breading." Welp, the breading was hardly seasoned. Tasted like bland flour on a soggy mushroom. I don't plan on coming here again, it's a pass! read more

Babe's is a truly local burger chain the honors the rustic throwback establishments. The interior is mostly wood, and you'll find order hand written and "thrown" along a wire to the kitchen. They're known for their burgers and it's easy to see why. The burgers are good but missing that extra pinch to make them great. That said, they have a lot going for them. They're are pretty large and a great value for the price. They're pretty salty which helps to bring out the flavor a lot, but that also means the flavor of the meat gets lost along the way. The fries are a welcomed compliment. They're succulent and add a lot to the meal. Prices are reasonable, and despite a big parking lot, you'll likely have a little trouble finding a space due to the popularity here. That said, this is a truly locals joint that should be appreciated as a solid neighborhood option. read more

You come here for casual convenience and fried food for sure. It was very busy Friday night at 6:20PM, lots of families dining in and lots of take out. NOT FAST, only 4 people working, and waiting roughly 25-30 minutes for our order for our family. Food is all very greasy and heavy as you'd expect, but still yummy! I really wanted onion ring and saw Babe's, I was crunch for time so I got there at 12:58, they had several special going on and I chose the chicken sandwich. I ask the cashier if it was good, she stated that they are freshly made, as they batter it and the same with the onion rings and the fries are homemade, I did order my sandwich special and forgot to check before I left to see if they honored my request. After I place the order I asked her if it would be ready by 1:15 and with great confidence, she said yes. She is very nice and friendly. When I received my food I went straight to the fries and they were hot , just like I love them I waited till I got home to check the rest of the food. I went the restroom just to see if it was clean and it sure was spotless. When I open my container the sandwich was still very hot and my onion rings were also still hot and they were very thin, which was the best part for me. My sandwich was exactly how I ordered it and they had all my condiments, ketchup, napkins in the bag. The gentleman that hand me my food was very friendly. The burgers are made to order and unfortunately they forgot to put the mushrooms requested on mine. There's open seating and a very casual vibe inside. A few years ago, my wife and I ate at Babe's, on Fredericksburg Road. As we were plowing into the burgers, a cockroach dropped from the ceiling onto our table. 'Nuff said. Fast forward a few years later. We decided to give it another chance. Unfortunately, another cockroach made its appearance, this time by the restrooms. It was on its back, legs in the air. Came after my son's track meet at Alamo Heights after driving around for about an hour deciding where and what to eat. They are short staffed but the cooks were def hustling all the orders and the 2 girls upfront were very nice. We got burgers, cheese sticks, fries and wings. Those wings I love the breading that they do, they are def up there with wingstop for the best wings in my opinion. ROACHES!!! Food has always been good but a ROACH crawled across the table WHILE WE WERE EATING. We will not be coming back anytime soon. It definitely needs to be cleaned, it always felt dirty but this is a new level. UPDATE: called the restaurant and the manager didn't even apologize. When I asked for a refund they said they wouldn't give us one because we didn't "tell them right then and there". There were 20 people waiting in line and we did not wish to announce it to the whole restaurant. We called back and the owner yelled at my mother and refused to refund us because it wasn't "in the food". They must be very used to roaches in their facility to be this casual about it. In addition to this, after writing this review, we called corporate and the man Tony stated because of this review they couldn't help up because we were "most likely lying". Why would we go through all this effort for a 45$ refund just to be lying? Do yourself a favor and do not go to this establishment. read more

My wife and I were in your O'Connor location, on the 6th on December, it was 64° inside the restaurant we asked the manager about the temperature it set at 64 degrees . She walked over and looked at the thermostat and then walked away did not change it, It was blowing cold air. Everybody in the restaurant was wearing coats because it was so cold. We were shaking from being so cold we could not eat our food. We ordered the onion rings and a burgers and both were cold by the time we walked from the pickup counter to the table. The burgers are a little small but that's not big deal it helps limit food waste because you are going to definitely want to get the fries.Similar texture to home fries and those are my absolute favorite kind of fries let me tell you. Chicken sandwich is huge.It's a juicy,generous perfectly cooked grilled breast.I was feeling frisky and added chili and Swiss cheese.They have beans in the chili FYI and that is at least my preferred way but but I realize folks have their own very specific preferences. I roll with it I do not discriminate against chili lol Anyway as far as the staff they all had mask on and upfront the head of house had forgotten it one interaction and had in on another but it seemed to just be a oversight maybe just forgot because when we went back for the second order she had it on.Yay!
