We had a 5:15 reservation and showed up five minutes early. The very very kind hostess said she didn't see our reservation (even though we confirmed by text). She kindly sat us immediately in the upstairs section. The restaurant and bar are very cool and clean. It wasn't too loud either even with a full bar and basketball on. Our waitress was very nice and got us settled and ordered promptly. We ordered two of the $49 filet mignons. Take note this comes with no sides. So we split the mixed veg and mashed potatoes. The sides were very good. Our steaks were cooked to the perfect temperature. The only problem is that they tasted awful. There was absolutely zero seasoning on either steak. No butter no garlic no salt no pepper. It was the best cooked steak with zero flavor. While everyone was very nice I can't say I'd ever drop $170 on steaks that bad. Steak not cooked properly (at first undercooked and then over cooked and we got some attitude when we asked for it to be corrected). Béarnaise sauce side was not edible. Couldn't be more impressed with service, ambiance, food, or desserts. First time coming to dinner with a group of four. Appetizers were delicious. Latkes and sausage platter - top choices. Dinner, our group enjoyed steaks, chicken w/dumplings and prime rib. All were excellent. Nothing compares to the desserts. Babka was great. Pull apart bread was delicious. Rounding up from 4.5 stars given the superb service. Food - My friend and I stopped in for a late brunch around 2pm. We ordered the Ribbon Dip (really a prime rib French dip), the buffalo cauliflower, the deviled eggs, and the sticky toffee pudding. The Ribbon Dip came with fries, which they let us swap out with salad. The salad had hearts of palm in it, a nice touch. Everything was delicious. The buffalo cauliflower had great texture. The sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream was delicious, but it could have used a thorough soaking of toffee sauce/custard - it was a very moist "dry" cake unlike the puddings I've had in the U.K. Value - With tax and tip, we paid about $42 pp. A little pricy given we didn't get drinks but pretty par for the course in Times Square. Service - Excellent. Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. She understood right away that we wanted split portions and was very accommodating - the food arrived on separate plates to our table! The staff also kindly modified my reservation last minute. Ambience - My only qualm was that the pictures online make the space look bright and airy, when in reality it has darker mood lighting - kind of a Tanner Smith's vibe. Take a trip back in time via Bacall's. It transports you to Old Hollywood. It is a beautiful space! I really enjoyed my recent dinner here. I came with a friend and we shared the latkes, beet salad, pasta dishes and for dessert, the Hungarian pull apart cake. The latkes were golden brown and crunchy, with applesauce for dipping. The beet salad was awesome!! I have an unreasonable love for beets :) They did not skimp! Also a nice amount of almonds, which I appreciated. The pasta dishes were tasty. It was one of the first bars that we visited in our recent trip to New York. I have to say it's a pretty expensive place to eat and drink but the experience nonetheless was worthwhile. We had several of their mixed drinks which were all pretty good albeit pricey but who cares right? Anyways we also had the meat platter which was pretty good. Ribbon is new on the restaurant scene in mid-town. It is wonderful! The decor is cozy vintage lightbulbs, cool bookcases and other fun stuff. The menu was inventive and unique. Our meals were delicious and the staff was incredibly attentive. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. Tough to explain how disappointing this place was. The restaurant looks beautiful inside but the food is absolutely awful. Everything was bland from the steak to the fried chicken to the appetizers. We are seeing a show, and could not order dessert because the waitress was so not attentive. we are a two top table, so it's not like we are a huge party that took time to order/eat. My co-workers and I always try a new place every year for our annual holiday dinner so we decided to try The Ribbon as we haven't been here yet. We sat in the back so it was much quieter where we could talk and catch up. The only problem I have is that they have advertised Happy Hour from 4-7 on their website. When I asked the bartender what drinks were HH, he replied that they really don't do that any more. I said that it's on the website and he replied that they had to take it down and it's old. He then said that he could either do a margarita or blue moon and that's it. If you're going to advertise a daily HH, then you should have one. If you don't have one or the bartender was too busy, then you need to update the website or educate your bartenders. The food was delicious which made up for it and the pre-fixe menu had great options! read more

We arrived a little after 5 and notified the staff that we had a 7 pm show at the theatre across the street. They acknowledged that and said no problem. We ordered all ordered from the 3 course fixed price menu menu, so they knew our appetizer main and desert choices right off the bat. We reminded them at 6:15 that we would need to receive the food soon. At 6:45, we still had not received main courses. It was apparent they hadn't even begun to cook them. The waiter (who we had only seen once or twice the whole night) got immediately defensive and told us he would notify his manager of the "pissed off" group and walked away as we were mid sentence. They said that they were understaffed (which seems like they could have anticipated given we had made the reservation far in advance). For the prices they try to charge, they could not have less regard for the customer or more mediocre food. read more

So the 4 star review that was showing up under my name was for The Ribbon, which was the prior incarnation of Bacall's. We've now come here twice for pre-theater dinners, and honestly I'm kind of scratching my head because, unlike other Blue Ribbon Group restaurants, this one is a mixed bag. First the pluses: service is fantastic, the space is great (not that different than The Ribbon), and the drinks are excellent. Now the minuses (with some pluses): on our first visit, I found the menu confusing- two kinds of meat? Kosher kitchen and non-kosher? Jewish or kitsch? The latkes and chopped liver were great. The rest of the meal was just okay and pricey. Decided to give it another try last night because it was close to the theater we were attending. The menu was totally redone (no more kosher meat) and much shorter, which was much better. No more chopped liver but the latkes still were there. Husband wisely went with the fried chicken - a Blue Ribbon standard. I shared the tomahawk steak with my cousin and it was tasty but not worth the hefty price tag. Plus we asked for medium rare and it was rare. Creamed spinach and steak fries were meh. Other cousin enjoyed her Reuben. But the worst part was a very loud, schmaltzy entertainer (think Catskills). Everyone else seemed to be enjoying him, but it made conversation very difficult. Clearly Blue Ribbon is going for an experience here, and I'm not sure I want to experience it again. read more

What a let down. The two stars are for locatioon and the server who was pretty good. But don't ever charge me 20 dollars for a FROZEN burger. Ever. The burger was terrible and the wine we ordered wasn't available, and instead of letting us pick another bottle they tried to pass off a more expensive bottle.
