We get there 15 minutes late on a Saturday, saw their brunch menu on line...they tell us no brunch available but we can make you eggs or pancakes. The eggs come out cold. My friend asked for coffee never came till we asked again We asked for decaf cappuccino and they did not have decaf. Dessert menu they were out of 3 items out of the 5 selection. Was a Saturday right before theater there were only 3 tables full, I can understand now why???? Manager never came over to compensate for anything. Very poor business management . Right in the middle of the theater district and steps away from Times Square, Bacall's is a hidden gem with great decor, music, and of course food. It perfectly captures the essence of the 1940s vintage Hollywood so you're sure for a one of a kind experience. Service is also really friendly. I've been twice, and I have yet to be disappointed. I really recommend the arancini and swordfish steak, as well as the 16 layer cream cake and buffalo cauliflower. Great place. We initially tried going to Carmine's which is very close by but we didn't have reservations and we decided to try Bacall's. We were seated almost immediately. Very nicely decorated with a very good ambience. Both me and hubby got the same thing - filet mignon. Filet came with potatoes. Excellent cut of meat, very well cooked. We also ordered arancini as an appetizer - they have a happy hour special where the arancini, flatbreads etc were $10. Staff was helpful. Very close to the Broadway area - we went to see Back to the Future on Broadway and wanted to make sure we had a good meal close to the theater. Pricing is very reasonable particularly for being in NY and downtown area. Filets were $50. Definitely recommend! read more

Two months later and FINALLY a response! Super generic "apology", and I can fully understand transition to new hours but essentially having nobody in the restaurant knowing what's going on is kind of over the top bad. The host stand seating us but nobody coming to say anything to us for nearly a 1/2 hour, a server saying they were a manager but wasn't, just crazy. Oh and this was like a week before Christmas, not day one or two of you being open for this. Came just to try the layered cake but wow... the pastas and sides also blew my mind, everything was all so creamy and flavorful! The mashed potatoes were so fluffy yet heavy (in a good way) and were definitely my favorite out of everything I ordered. The layered cakes, both chocolate and raspberry, were so worth it, I'd come back just for the cakes! Docking one star because they don't pick up the phone, the first night I tried ordering I decided to go in person after many phone calls, and was directed to the bar by the hostess to place an order, however the bartender said they were no longer taking orders. Had a great experience here -- everything from the service to the food to the ambience was excellent. We had the Pita & Dips and the Wagyu meatballs as a starter. For our entrees we got the Prime Rib and the Bucharest Pasta. The steak was cooked perfectly. We were really impressed with the pasta dish, it was some of the best we've eaten! My friend and I were so excited to come here for brunch before a show. Their social media was enticing and we wanted to experience it! Plot twist! What an absolute disappointment. You have 90 min to eat and drink, which isn't terrible, but there was a 20-minute wait between our plates coming out and the restaurant was not busy. Dessert is on the menu, but NOT included in the brunch price, although this is not indicated anywhere. Our first plates took 40 minutes to come out, so ordered our second plates as our first plates were put in the table. We still ended up waiting 20 minutes. When the food did come out, it was not fresh. The "spicey" chicken and waffles were not fresh - chicken was so dry and had no spice; birria tacos were dry, made with 1/2 a slice of Kraft cheese (wtf?!) and didn't come with any sauce, as birria tacos do; the crepe burrito was described to have bacon and cheddar cheese - it had neither and was devoid of flavor. The menu indicated dessert was indeed included with brunch, but our waiter informed us when ordered dessert from the menu that it was not included. We asked to see the manager because, as my photo indicates, dessert looked to be included. It took the manager about 25 minutes to even come to our table! Once there, he stated he didn't know why the menu wasn't clear about dessert, he was going to "talk to them" about the verbiage on the menu, but he refused to rectify the situation, despite our overall negative experience and long waits for everything. The manager's handling of the situation matched the food and service, completing the trifecta of an awful dining experience. We really wanted to immerse ourselves in the atmosphere and food we thought was Bacall's, but they changed up the script from what is depicted on their social media! Bacall's may not see the need to establish repeat customers because they are in the theater district, but this place is so bad I don't think the location will be enough to save it, and their final bow will come sooner than later. read more

We celebrated my sister's birthday here with dinner before a show and we loved it. The service was welcoming and prompt. We decided to try the wagyu meatballs, house made flatbread, burrata and baked Brie, which were all great starters. We also had the steak frites, prime rib and the Bacalls fried chicken and devored it all! As for the drinks we didn't have any of their cocktails but opted to have whiskey and wine instead. They have a very nice selection so we were very pleased. We were a bit full after dinner but shared the 16 layer cream cake and cookie plate and it was the perfect end to the meal. I planned on visiting Bacall's before a Broadway show and checked on Yelp to see if it was handicap accessible. I am a wheelchair user and was happy to see that it was listed as accessible. After making plans with my friend to enjoy happy hour here, I was extremely disappointed when I arrived. This place is NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE. Their elevator was broken and the only place I could get to was the bar. The bar actually had a few steps up, all tall tops and the bathroom was on another floor. It is hard being disabled in this city and relying on Yelp to help me navigate. Again, Bacall's is NOT HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE. I hope this review helps other wheelchair users. read more

I would like to first shoutout to the hostess who called me before the restaurant even opened to confirm my reservation and allowed me to change my reservation time over the phone since I was running a bit late. We used a Pulsd voucher today for bottomless brunch with ease. Our server/bartender, Leo, was gracious with the champagne top offs, as advertised, and even allowed me to have extra orange juice since the alcohol taste was too strong for me personally. Food wise, we ordered the two eggs, spicy fried chicken with waffles and steak and eggs. All three options were fabulous choices aside from the portion sizes being on the smaller side in my opinion. To note, the latkes were absolutely delicious. The steak and eggs were supposed to come with yuca fries but they came with latkes instead which we were happy with since they were really good. The steak needed an extra bit of salt and pepper but that was easily solved with the shakers provided to us. The portion size of the chicken and waffles was a bit underwhelming considering there was only one piece of chicken, but tasty and filling otherwise. To top off our meal, I ordered the truffle fries which was really good and had loads of flavor. Definitely come here for bottomless brunch with a Pulsd voucher. There is a section of the menu that is quick entrees in case you have a show to get to (since they're in the theater district) and I thought this was a great idea. We did not have a show to catch so we took our time and started with a bunch of appetizers. The buffalo cauliflower was so good! Nice light but crispy batter, and we both really liked the buffalo sauce. You can get it without buffalo sauce if you want. I hear some people don't love it, though I don't know any of them personally. I also really liked the corned beef and cabbage egg rolls, though my friend said they were a bit acidic for her. The latkes were a hit with both, though I could have used more applesauce! For entrees, I got the 22 oz prime rib that is highlighted on the menu. Definitely could share this! I enjoyed the steak with the au jus and the horseradish sauce very much! I also got the bone marrow butter on the side which was fantastic. My friend ordered the strip steak from the pre-theater specials and if I'm judging the meat on its own, I think I liked the strip steak better, but I guess that's just my preferred cut. I came during restaurant week and it's probably one of the best decisions of my life (the year is still young though). Anywho, you will be struck by how beautiful and elegant this venue is. It's good for a date night as the lighting and selection of foods will surely delight you. I ordered the deviled egg trio and will now no longer eat a deviled egg without a fried oyster on it. Seriously this place will ruin you. For my entree, I got the vegetable risotto. Let me tell you, I rarely say that a restaurant's risotto is as good as mine but this one is. Get the risotto. She often gave us great recommendations of what to pick for drinks and food. The food and drinks are delicious. General notes: Do not get the chiftele here. DO NOT GET THE HOUSE VODKA. (I heavily repeat the latter.) Slow service. The menu here is a hodgepodge of American Steakhouse and Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine which is quite different. Apparently it's inspired by the people behind the old school Sammy's Romanian Steakhouse (if not some of the people from the old better spot are associated.) I's a bit hard to choose as the prices vary quite heavily but eventually after flagging down the overworked server, we ordered. The food took ages but eventually everything arrived in pretty large portions. In terms of appetizers, others got the fried kreplach/dumplings; which instead of the usual liver consisted of brisket and onion; and another got the chiftele or beef, pork, potato, and dill meatballs. The former for some reason looked similar to an oversized AmCh egg-roll that I found it humorous but he liked it and I tried the latter which was not so good. I have had chiftele at other Romanian spots in Brooklyn and the version here was just way too thin and not nearly juicy enough. A dry sausage wasn't expected and I almost apologized for recommending it as she only had a good half of the plate. I went with a drink which had house infused vodka which was disgusting. The drink was oddly medicinal which I generally don't mind as I happen to like some medicinal herbal liquors (such as Becherovka and others) but it was also somehow simultaneously very sweet and very bitter and I definitely wouldn't recommend it for $18 or even $8. The fact they have a vodka service like in some fancy Russian spots is humorous but unless it's a good brand, avoid it. I didn't get an appetizer as I ordered "The Showstopper." Below listed the actual description which was "Betty's Roumanian Steak Platter- Hangar Steak, Stuffed Cabbage, Steak Fries." The dish at $46 was fine for the price. The steak had a bit too much chew being definitely more medium than medium rare and it was a bit dry regardless of the sauce. The stuffed cabbage was perfectly fine and the steak fries were warm and alright though too thick. I'm generally biased against them because I'm a much bigger fan of waffle fries and shoestring as I prefer their textures. Another person had the short ribs and while I'm not aware of the price, it was very tasty from what I tried and I probably would get that instead if I happen to be dragged here again. A good part of this meal was marred by my terrible drink and a bad appetizer that I unfortunately recommended. The slow mixed service here compounds my issues with this place so I might be a bit harsher than usual here. Overall for Times Square, this place was fine but if this was in any other neighborhood, I would probably leave this with a 1/5 (as in a 1.5 rounded down) but because it is in this culinary desert, I'll bump it up to a 2. read more

The filet mignon (I ordered the surf and turf) it came with 4 jumbo shrimps ( and jumbo they were) and were absolutely delicious. I ordered the horseradish sauce and chimichuri on the side, dipping the shrimp in both is absolutely mandatory! Certain sides are not included with the steaks but I super recommend you try the creamed spinach. It deserves to be dipped in everything you order. It is absolutely amazing and not bitter at all! I also tasted a few drinks. Bacall's bacon which is sort of an old fashioned, a pimm's cooler which is a gin based drink where if you don't like gin you don't taste it at all and its very refreshing. And something new to me is the latkes which were super crunchy and well done and came with apple sauce which in comparison with Polish culture are potatoe pancakes. Highly recommend those! Let me start with the good things. The food taste really good, at least my chicken waffle. There are two pieces of waffle already pretty sweet so I don't think syrup will need necessary. Chicken is crispy and well flavored. The space is very cozy and classic setting. We came for Sunday brunch it was very empty, probably only half of the space filled. There are a lot needs to improve. I got reservation at 11am. The bartender told me it's open are 11:30am but why does open table confirm 11am? We didn't get seated until 11:15am even the entire party were there and there was no other guests. We just stood at the entrance waiting. During the entire meal it was hard to find our waitress, she came and go and we had glasses empty couldn't find refill especially for bottomless it's a bit waste of time. Also there's no refill of water the glasses were empty the whole time. The food took a long time to arrive. At least 30mins which we didn't mind, but they forgot one of our order so our table had to wait for they put in the missing order but she lied saying it's under staffed when we saw that she went to the machine to put in the missing order. At check out I couldn't find the waitress and I was in the rush to leave, it was a little disappointed from the service received and I didn't have a choice of how much tip to give because it's automatically charged 20% gratuity. It's 10mins walk from my place but I don't think I would come back or recommend any of my friend to come if these issues are not improved. Full disclaimer - Seated brought me here along with the reviews from the "old" restaurant. I was a little confused because of the name change so for anyone wondering - Bacall is the new restaurant name but same family/management, per the waitress. The menu looked a bit different from what I saw in regards to reviews, menus, and other photos posted. Looks like they had a little bit of everything but not sure if I'd say this is a real steakhouse. Others mentioned this in their reviews as well. Seemed more like a place with a few choices of steak on the menu and a lot of other things that seemed to compete for attention (this was labeled a steakhouse but had a lot of Jewish dishes). The prices were reasonable for some things but out of range for others. It's hard for me to judge the pricing of the Jewish dishes since I'm not familiar but some of the appetizers seemed way overpriced for what it was so we didn't get any. There's live music but there weren't more than a few tables dining in on Friday night, making it a little awkward. He seemed to be interactive but there weren't many customers to interact with. One thing I should note is that he does call on tables/guests and make commentary - kind of like when you're at a standup show and sitting in the front row and the comedian works you into the script. If you're not into that, maybe request a seat in the back. Our waitress was lovely. However, the bus boys and other staff must have been new or just didn't care because it seemed like nobody knew what dishes they were bringing out and they were standing around avoiding eye contact - there was no water refills or attempt to clear plates that were empty and pushed aside. These things were eventually taken care of by the waitress when she saw that the other staff hadn't been attentive. Overall, nothing to write home about and not surprised that there are extremely long lines for nearby steakhouses while this one was empty on a Friday night. The steak wasn't awful but also not great.. the portion was large, though I'd prefer quality over quantity for the filet mignon. read more

I want to thank the Bacall's staff for making tonight's dinner very entertaining and downright awesome! Its my 10th year anniversary and you guy made it memorable. The food was delicious, the wine recommended by my waiter is now my new favorite, the service was fast and friendly and above all, the atmosphere was relaxing and romantic. The performer singing mostly frank sinatra's songs was my favorite:):) He's spot on to that voice...i swear I thought it was playlist and not a live performance until people starting cheering and clapping. Saw an IG influencer post about unlimited brunch here and said, lemme see what this spot is hitting for. When I say unlimited brunch I just don't mean drinks, I mean food. So you can get two small portioned entrees at a time with your pick of the litter. We had steak and eggs, fried chicken thigh and waffles, a fluffy pancake, etc..lemme tell you about it right quick. First off the spot is HUGE. When we pulled up late for our 2:00pm reservation and it was relatively empty, I slightly panicked I won't lie. Cuz an empty spot is sometimes indicative of the quality of the place. Sometimes though, people just don't know any better! And this was the case here cuz man oh man b. First off our server Lay was awesome, let's get to that first. Secondly, the food here is amazing. I started with the avocado toast and chicken thigh with a mini waffle. The chicken was well seasoned without being too salty. The toast was ridiculous, creamy tasty avocado, the greens had what I feel like was a house dressing but even if it was bottled, it was crack. Next up the barria taco. The barria soup was on point, the brisket like its supposed to be, soft texture, juicy like an Atalnta stripper. The brisket sliders with just a tad of fat, but bagning as well. Then we got to the star, the salmon with mash potatoes. This cut of fish is the only thing I like flaky, it was cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes smelled good, and I rarely say that about mashed. Mean. The steak and eggs with yuca potatoes, steak was really good, eggs scrambled perfectly like my brain during a Friday happy hour. The yuca potatoes the best I've experienced. The waffles and pancakes fluffy dreams. The chilaques Rojas were my second favorite dish, the red sauce on the egg and avocado had me crying tears of joy behind the specs. The nova egg sandwich was slamming. I'm back in here asap. Shout out to Lay again, she really was the costar along with the food, she kept the bubbly coming and made sure we were good throughout the meal. The rest of the staff was also great. I'm gonna see what dinner is about here as well. read more
