Found this little gem based off other reviews and it was amazing! The owner and his little son (who is beyond adorable) were working, very friendly and welcoming. We were reminded this is a traditional Sicilian restaurant and the cooking would reflect that. It was awesome! Tried fried beef and pea rice ball (sounds gross but yummy) pasta with eggplant, tomato sauce and cream of basil (holy hell yumm!) and cannoli (uhhh, this is not the American version. This was the real thing and I'm ruined forever!). This plus 5 glasses of house wine (also decent, judgers) was all only 41€. In this semi tourist trap you can pay 20€ for a plate of cheese if you stay around the big landmarks. Go in alleys. Find little local spots. It's so worth it! read more

Hands down this was the best food I had in the two weeks we traveled to Italy! We spent time in Rome, Florence and Venice. The dishes were authentic and amazing. The menu rotates regularly (daily I think) so there was a new main and app when we returned 2 days after our first time. Would highly recommend any seafood you can get here. We had a caprese salad, seafood risotto, mixed seafood platter, seafood pasta, and a high quality, but basic pasta. The aubergine (eggplant) appetizers are also great. I love fried food and eggplant, so I feel like I'm a decent judge. * Service: 4/5 A bit slow to be seated and to have our orders taken the first time we went, when we didn't have a reservation. Yes, even for Italy's pace of life I felt it was a bit slow. Second time was better. The owner made us feel very welcome. The second time they offered us free bread and dessert wine. Very nice. One of the loveliest meals we had during our 2 week Stay in Italy. In addition to delicious food, the graciousness of the owner and staff was a treat. We had a simple meal with carbonata to start...it has eggplant olives and served on toast. Not heavy and unlike anything I've ever had. Loved it. Husband has sea bass which was light with a great sauce but don't know what it was and I had linguine with shrimp. Oh my goodness...tender shrimp and perfect pasta. Heaven. Husband had to try cannoli and I don't like cannoli, but I loved this. Special ricotta from Sicily in it. Eat here as soon as you can. We made reservations at this restaurant a few days prior to our arrival in Venice. Our party of 8 was seated promptly for dinner in a clean, bright restaurant. As others have indicated, the menu is limited but the food is excellent. The restaurant is run by a brother and sister team from Sicily. The food and wine are very reasonably priced, particularly considering the location. We loved all the courses and the wine. She recommended a white wine "Grillo" that was a terrific accompaniment to our dinner. We asked for some recommendations for other meals. She spoke to her brother and gave us a written list that we used to book some more excellent meals during our stay in Venice. Highly recommended. read more

The owner came and spoke with us, explaining that all of the recipes came from his family. Everything we tried was incredible and authentic! Simple and perfect. Right away when we walked in, the owner made room for me and my daughter. Suggestion: you call ahead and make a reservation no matter how large or small your group is. Aubergine appetizer was excellent, along with the house white wine was the best I've had in Italy. Pasta with meat ragu and the steamed aubergine pasta with tomato sauce was absolutely amazing. We would give more stars if we could!!! My husband and I arrived drenched and hungry with no reservation. (Make a reservation!!) Marco graciously took us in and made us feel like family. The food is truly amazing. We had the stuffed sardines and caponata di melanzanie for starters. Unbelievable. We then had a plate of pasta with tuna, followed by sea bream with lemon pine nuts and raisins which was served over delicious greens. My husband had the roast beef, burrata and mushrooms. This is one of those warm, intimate, family-run businesses that exudes the personality of the owner. Marco grew up in Palermo; and the menu comprises mostly family recipes from Sicily. Among the highlights were a delicious fritto misto (reminiscent of cicchetti) and pasta with shrimp and pistachio. But while the food was all wonderful, the real draw is the atmosphere. Marco, who teaches at a local elementary school in addition to running the restaurant, is a born host. The night we were there (at the tail end of the season on a a Tuesday) the place was packed. Yet, somehow, Marco managed to talk and joke with every single patron. Hundreds of drawings--mostly by child customers but also some adults--hang from the ceiling, as a kind of tribute to the creativity of his clientele. Great Sicilian food in Venice, a gem among other very unimpressive restaurants in Venice. The owner was super friendly. We felt bad that we were the only table that had booked a late lunch, but he came over and talked to us and made sure we had everything we needed. Southern (Italian) hospitality goes a long way in Venice. The sfincione (focaccia with tomato sauce on top) was among the best I've ever had, including in Sicily. Pasta alla Norma was great - we could smell the eggplants being cooked as we waited, so I was excited. Arancini and shrimp were also good, but the sfincione and the Norma were excellent. I don't think Marco (the owner) needs another five star review, but he's getting one anyway. We had a lovely dinner at this intimate space in Santa Croce. The menu is small but all excellent. I started with the eggplant appetizer and then had the special of the day, which was spaghetti with shrimp and a pesto of celery leaves and almonds. Both delicious. My son started with a couple different kinds of arancini and the pasta norma. This place understands eggplant; if you like it, be sure to order it here. We drank a Sicilian Nero d'Avola that cost 25 euros to go with. Part of the experience was talking with Marco, who waxed poetic on a number of topics: how feeding people was showing love, and what's missing in a lot of Venetian restaurants, and how fruit doesn't taste as good as it used to and cheese is too "safe." I agree, Marco. My son had the cassata for dessert, and my husband and I just ordered caffè corretto (with grappa). However, Marco made us a special treat to share. When he brought it out, I asked "Cos'è?" and he said, "Nonna." (What is it? Grandmother.) It was basically crostini with good olive oil and caramelized sugar on top. Luck was on our side on a rainy night when we happened into this place. They had 1 table for 2 left and were so lucky to find this place on accident on our last night. Modern black and white decor with a blackboard of daily specials filled with locals enjoying bottles of wine at the tables. Service is unbelievably friendly and youthful. Our server reviewed in detail the simple dishes from the blackboard and guided us into : 1. Fried mix box of artichoke, veggies, arancini balls, and a puff doughball filled with a salty fish. Wonderful starter. 2. Eggplant Parmesan was perfect California size, filling and left room for dessert. 3. Pasta al Norma was tossed with veggies and had a smokey rich sauce which I loved.
