Probably the worst food we had in Roma. How do you mess up carbonara as an Italian in Rome. It was literally scrambled eggs and pasta. The pizza was not that good either especially compared to other restaurants in the area. I know better or to go to a restaurant that's trying to entice you in but went against my better judgment because it was a nice view of the Piazza and we were tired. And not once did anyone ask us how everything was, we had to wave down our server to send back the carbonara, I can't believe that someone actually platted it and brought it out of the kitchen, you can see that chunks of egg. The saltimbocca was so bad I could barely eat 1/4 of it, but I just ate some of my daughter's pizza that was the replacement for her carbonara. And it was more expensive than most other restaurants in the area. Second star given for atmosphere read more

No idea why this place has 3 stars I had the best Pizza I have had in Italy so far and we have been here for over 2 weeks so I have had a lot of Pizza in that time. Got pulled into this trap walking around the market. Then, saw the yelp ratings and thought, too late now, let's give this a chance. My husband ordered gnocchi and I got Alfredo. When the gnocchi came out, we were shocked. It looked so strange. They looked like Cheeto puff chip balls. We tasted and we both agreed the taste was so familiar, but couldn't think of what it tasted like. Then we realized what it was.... Spaghettios from a can... identical flavors. I feel like the sauce on the gnocchi was literally that sauce lol. It was so bad my husband took one bite and didn't finish. Our worst experience in Italy. read more

Just don't!! Extremely long wait for breakfast. After 30 minutes we were told they didn't have what we ordered. Ordered again. Another 30 minutes with no food. Had to get to a tour we had tickets for so we asked to just pay for our drinks. They said it was ready and brought out raw sausage and the nastiest eggs you can get. First don't eat at any trattoria or restaurant on the square. If someone has to stand outside to "lure" you in that's a red flag. However, they have a sandwich or panini place with the same name on the side street. You walk up and choose from many including porcheta. I had a cheese, mushroom and arugula panini and my husband had the porcheta. They were both delicious and 5 stars. It was about 11 euros for two huge sandwiches and a coke. The servers are rude and disrespectful if they notice you're a tourist. Their servers get excited to scam you and run up your bill if they see you aren't local. DO NOT waste your time and money. Came here with a group of 6 for lunch. Service was good and the prices reasonable. I was surprised at how large the portions were. Not typical for Italian restaurants. Everyone enjoyed their meal especially the grilled Octopus. Really delicious. I would recommend this restaurant. It is in a great location and great for people watching entertainment. read more

Baccanale is a bit of a tourist trap on Campo di Fiore. Seating is both inside and on the piazza under an awning. Tables are jammed together, making it difficult to squeeze between them. Service is slow, and the food is just OK. Drink prices are relatively high compared to other bar restaurants -- e.g , a Nigroni and an Americano cost 8,00€ each. Within a 5 minute walk, one can find same drinks for 5,00€. read more

We stopped by this restaurant after taking a glance at the menus at the restaurants around the plaza. It seemed reasonably priced, and the food looked good. The waiters were okay, and service was average-paced. Not too great, but not bad either. To be fair, we wandered in not speaking Italian, so I guess a lukewarm welcome is to be expected. For an appetizer, we ordered a caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella; the veggies were super fresh, and the buffalo mozzarella was delicious. My fiance has rigatoni with ham and bacon-- it was pretty good, and the ham was bursting with flavor. I ordered a salad with tomato and buffalo mozzarella (yes, the mozzarella was THAT good). I'd say the food is above average. Ambiance is pretty good, too; overlooking the piazza at night was fun, and it felt quite quaint. read more

I desperately needed some protein for breakfast so I had their "sausage, bacon, toast" plate which is made specifically for tourists (p.s. their idea of bacon will make you want to cry). We only came here for a drink and the drink earned it the 4 stars. Out of all the places around the square we picked this one because it looked the most popular and it had some curb appeal with the red/white checkered tablecloths and the hanging plants. The waiters were just ok, but not as genuine charming as I already got used to. BUT the drink.... We took the Virgin Mule. It's with stuff I don't know, but I've added a picture of the menu with the contents in Italian.. Will Google translate them later to make it at home. I think it's one of the best cocktails I've ever drunk. Although maybe I haven't been around that much ;) It look likes a Mojito, but with a cucumber sticking out. It's rly tasty and fresh with a strange effect to your throat. It's like a burning sensation which you might have with a strong alholic beverage, but... It's alcohol free. It costed 6 euro. The regular cocktails with alcohol were 8 euro here. The amount in the glass was ok, but it finished quickly.. But that's me ;) Toilets for women were ok, but as lots of places no seats. ATTENTION: anyone who knows how Italian food is supposed to taste like, stay away from this place. Started with a caprese salad, tomatoes were almost too hard to eat, mozzarella obviously not fresh, even the balsamic sucked. I had the fettuccine Alfredo. The fettuccine was too al dente, the bacon in there was over cooked, frozen peas, and crappy mushrooms. They didn't even get the Alfredo sauce right. My husband ordered the rigatoni carbonara. I thought MINE was bad! Just look at the picture. Why is it so yellow??? Tasted like crappy nacho cheese sauce. He left his plate basically full and was eating off mine (that says something) which was left half full. Also, this place sucked so bad I am writing this review immediately after eating there. I never do that! Do yourself a favor and get away from this tourist trap/crap. read more

To all Americans, better yet, all humans, DO NOT EAT HERE. I will outline why: My family and I came on a trip to rome and stayed at hotel campo de fiore for our trip. The plaza with the several restaurants and bars was literally right outside our apartment! How exciting right?! NOT! So the hotel did their fair job of saying "try to avoid eating at the restaurants in the plaza right outside, they are tourist traps!" We thought, hmmm how bad could it be!? Here is how bad... We sat down to eat, and right away the waiter was a huge DB. We ordered our meal with some extra garlic and basil and even offered to pay extra. He goes "you're taking away from the true italian taste" and we said that we didn't mind! It's our meal right? So he never brings us water, is short 2 forks on our table, and gives us attitude when we ask for silverware! Then, at the end, I'm thinking, okay, let me go inside and pay the bill and our night is done with, right. WRONG! I go inside to pay, and am dealing with a lady who claims she is the manager. I kid you not, the waiter comes storming in, and yells "you Americans are a ******** joke, you f***** idiots". At this point I am heated and shaking! The "manager", who normally should be scolding her pathetic wait staff, instead laughs and starts mocking me in italian! When I'm like excuse me?!, she replies "what? Americans are pathetic". And is cracking up. I look at both of them in the eye and say "this is a warning, social media goes a long way in the states, and I will make sure not another American eats here for the sake of my country!" This place is definitely a tourist trap, I wanted to beat myself up for getting lured in here but we were so tired, so hungry, and so cold. So we just let ourselves be lured into this restaurant :( The food was horrible (menu options were really not that good) the service was also horrible, our table was outdoors and the heating lamps were not turned on for us until we asked numerous times, etc etc the list goes on. I'd suggest to stay away from this restaurant in particular they really do not treat their patrons well. (Maybe its a different story for the natives there, who knows) read more

She had a sour face from the moment we walked in, was unwilling to answer any questions about the menu, and she even got into a verbal altercation with another worker inside the restaurant while we were eating. Walking around the piazza on a nice day, was glad there was a table available in this packed restaurant at lunchtime. Tables were cramped and too few waiters to comfortably cover the number of tables but the host was extremely helpful and nice, helping with the tables in between seating customers. The steak with peppercorn sauce was so amazing. So incredibly tender, so good. Lasagna was excellent. Fettucini Carbonara blew my mind, it was so good. Fettucini bolognese was solid. Joe and I have been coming to Baccanale for several years when on vacation in Rome and the surrounding area. It is one of our firsts stops when arriving. We have always had great service and enjoy the staff. Joe gets pizza usually and I get the meat and cheese sampling. This time I also got the thinly sliced beef on greens! On a whim, we ended up here for our very first meal in Italy. After checking in to our cute little boutique hotel, we eagerly stepped into the piazza just a few minutes away and was surrounded by so many restaurants we didn't even know which to pick. There was someone outside almost every restaurant trying to convince you to sit down, but after taking a quick look around, we decided to come here. We weren't very hungry and decided to share the La Carbonara and the eggplant appetizer. Both were sooo good. The pasta was prepared al dente, but cooked any less would've probably made it too hard. The eggplant appetizer was really small and on the bland side, but it was very fresh with the chopped tomatoes and basil. We also ordered the house wine which came in a 1 liter carafe. This is literally the best "house wine" I have ever had in my life. Needless to say, this meal was wonderful and marked the beginning of many more delicious meals to come on our trip. read more

We had wonderful appetizers (pear and artichoke) and enjoyed the steak strips with arugula and balsamic...it was a nice change from pizza and pasta. The draft Peroni's were cold and espressos were strong! It is definitely a bit on the touristy side...although I would not want to label it as a, "trap." We were tired & starving, and thought the food looked good as we walked by this place, so we plopped down for our first Italian meal. The location is great for people watching, so it may be worth sitting down for a break with a drink. The food, however, was not authentic at all. I'm pretty sure my gnocchi was mixed in with a sauce from a jar - it was very bland and artificial tasting. Our server was very sweet, but also very busy - therefore she was slow to get to us. I wouldn't mind if the food was good or if she wasn't busy hugging and kissing one of her co-workers in the middle of the restaurant!
