I have found the staff to be pleasant. if you like wood fired pizza, get on over. it's a gorgeous setting in which to fill your face with the tastiest pizza in Troy, IMO. the downside, I don't like their salads. Spent some time showing out of town relatives around Troy and after finally getting rid of them, decided to stop in for a bite. I really liked the atmosphere - lots of wood and exposed brick, two separate dining spaces, one being the bar room with a few tables, and the other more of a dining room. There's also a little sunken grotto room with a couple of couches. Great beer selection, no crap on tap, and what I am told is a nice selection of wines. We got a couple of salads, a nice mesclun mix with a homemade dressing, a nice portion for a reasonable $2.50. As for pizza, we got a 12" margherita - a basic cheese, tomato and basil affair. I thought the pizza was good - great crust but kind of bland overall. I think some garlic or pesto would have been great. I definitely plan on going back and trying different pies. I think this is a cool place to hang out, different from the usual bar scene, and have some beers and food. read more

Very cute place, although at 7pm on a Sunday night it was completely empty, which was weird. Good selection of wine and beer. Excellent artichoke dip. However the pizza was just "okay" for the price. Recommended to us by a local. Nice people and relaxed pace and we were in no hurry but if you have little patience you may complain the service was slow. Very reasonable prices for lunch. Past was overcooked and pepper cream sauce was forgettable and was skimpy on other ingredients that it came with. Pizzas had a huge crust handle and basically if there's no cheese and sauce on what you are eating, then you're eating crust not pizza. Yelp's 3-star "A-OK" rating sums it up nicely. Not bad. I finally got a chance to visit this place after seeing excellent reviews in the TU and on here. I am a huge pizza fan and absolutely had to try this place out. So this past Friday on 7/27/13 since Friday is basically called "Pizza Friday" in my family the gf and I decided to try this place. The atmosphere has a hipster feel to it and it didn't bother me, it was nice and pleasant. We sat at the high tops at the bar and they seemed to have A LOT of beer on tap behind the bar. Could be a great place to grab a drink maybe? We ordered 2 pizzas, a 6 cut cheese and a 4 cut margherita pizza. Service was prompt and everyone was nice and helpful. My g/f got a salad and it looked fresh and delish. She had no complaints. Our pizza finally arrived and I was kinda taken aback to what I saw. Now, per all the pics on yelp and on facebook their pizzas look like they are crispy and thin. Our pizzas did come out thin, but lacked crispiness and I am pretty sure they might have been undercooked. There was no crisp to any of the dough. I could barely hold a slice in my hands, it basically fell apart. Maybe it was just the cook at that time, but per my experience it is not worth my time and money going back to see if it would be any different the next time. That's just my experience. read more

Long ago when dinosaurs roamed the earth this was the home of the Allegro Café. You'd walk down into what seemed like a dingy cellar only to open the door to a raging kitchen with steam and flames and frantic activity. It was such fun. But that was then ... this is now. Today it's gourmet pizzas and craft beers. And you know what ... it's still a lot of fun. Just different ... and different is often good. Nice beer menu. Almost everything served in pints like God planned it. Not in those horrid tut-tut blasphemous small glasses that have lost their working class cred altogether. The pizza is clever and well made. You MUST have this pizza!!!! This place is amazing!! Kip, Vinnie and the wait staff are so friendly! My kids and I went in right before closing and they we're so sweet and let us eat anyway. I can't believe there's pizza this good in the capital district and I didn't know! We can't wait to go back again and try the pasta and other items on the menu. BTW... they have awesome flavored sodas too! We had grape & Shirley Temple. There's a little kids area where the kids can eat & draw on the walls. I've had good experience with the food in the past, but the service has just been too rotten to deserve the business. Tried to place an order for pickup tonight, something that is consistently hard to do. Called multiple times with no answer over the course of a half hour. Discovered the order online option (which is super flawed and not coded properly) and placed the order that way. About 20 minutes later the ordering service (slice) called me to cancel the transaction because they couldn't get a hold of the restaurant to confirm. I rarely post because I let most things go, but if you don't have the respect for your costumers to even answer the phone, you don't deserve the customers. I hope you take the opportunity to re-evaluate your commitment to you base and to improve your service. You make good food, but it is not worth the horrendous service you provide. read more

Not bad, buut not great either... Friday eve in Troy.. no hipsters in sight... met some friends for wood fired pizza and chatting... Ill give ambiance an B. (great space, well decorated) Music was a tad too loud, it was lowered when inquired about. Service gets a C.. why? water never refilled, had to beg borrow and steal some hot sauce and the waitress was quite hard to find. Why I ask? The potential is here but kind of falls short. Food gets a B-. The pizza was cold. There it is. The ingredients were fresh and good, crust was cooked perfectly but somewhere between the oven and the table the pizza was cold. Salad was decent, nothing special.. Beverages were nothing too special- many beers on tap list - I had a stout and a pilsner I forget where from but they were decent. The all important P.. for PRICE. I will say Baccus is a bit expensive for what you get. 3 specialty pizzas, 5 salads 3 wines and 3 beers shouldn't equal 130 dollars with tip but it did.. I like friendly service but Bacchus's wait staff were so enthusiastically overfriendly (and seemingly genuinely so) that it felt utterly overwhelming ("HOW YA DOING WITH THAT?"). But that's probably more my problem than theirs. The pizza though is theirs. I love thin crust pizza but the wafer thin slices were too thin to be filling. Not merely insubstantial, the margarita pizza was just plain dull. The pasta was overcooked to the point of being soft and mushy and came with a bland sauce (I ordered the spicy sauce but spicy can also be flavorless). I'd go back again if I was hungry and in the neighborhood but that says it all. read more

As someone from Brooklyn, I'll admit that I'm a bit of a snob about my pizza. Nothing compares to a crunch slice of pizza from a local pizzeria with melty cheese and the perfect amount of sauce. After being in the Capital region for a little over a year, I still hadn't found that perfect slice of pizza, but Bacchus definitely blows all other pizza out of the park! I went on a Friday night with another companion - an equally snobby pizza lover, and we ordered the garlic bread with cheese, the Mozza'Bella pizza, and the Hercules pasta. All of them blew me away! I thought the garlic bread was going to be on a crusty baguette sprinkled with a little bit of mozzarella on top, but instead, it wasn't at all! It was more like a pocket of garlic cheesiness. The Mozzabella pizza was also delightful. The meatballs are out of this world! There was the right amount of sauce and cheese. The crust was a bit limp, but just the right thickness. It was hot and savory, with the cheese perfectly melty. The Hercules pasta had an Alfredo sauce and I believe some prosciutto and ham, although I might be wrong. It wasn't too thick and it had just the right ratio of sauce to pasta. I came back, not two days later, and had the spaghetti and meatballs and two of the desserts. All the food was delicious, and the spaghetti had lots of extra sauce.... in a good way. I'd definitely come back again, and I think I might've found my new favorite place for pizza! The only downside was that there was the waiters, while helpful, were super busy and in a way, I felt like our table was forgotten. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone who just wants a great meal! read more

We went there last night to celebrate an upcoming promotion. We were happy until we found that our unfinished meals were cleared by the owner. He was rude and was pushing us out the door. Now THIS is pizza! Thin, Neopolitan crust, fresh sauce, home made mozzarella, home made sausage, oh my! I wish I had more to eat while writing this review. We had the large Mozzabella pizza with home made meatballs, garlic, baby spinach and home made mozz. Plus we added some of their home made sausage. It was amazing. Bubbly crust, gooey cheese and perfect blend of favors. The roasted garlic bulb appetizer was fantastic as well as the really fresh garden salad. Washed it down with a few pints and glasses of wine and we were so...happy! We'll have to try the desserts next time :-). The biggest complaint I have with this restaurant is the service. I have been here many times now, and every time the service is different. The first experience I had here was terrible and I only came back because I was persuaded by a friend. On my first visit I came with a party of six, which is really not overly large. However, we were treated like second class citizens and our meals took an hour to be served to us and were cold when we finally did get them! I kept getting the impression that our waitress was not as interested in my party and was attending to other customers instead of us. She was also slightly rude to us and I think that was unacceptable.I can easily say it was the worst service I have ever received. The other occaisions that I visited this restaurant went much more smoothly, though it seems that something odd does happen every time I go there. The food has been consistently good (except for when it was not served at the right temperature the first time). If you want to go to a place with excellent, dependable service, then this is not the place for you. If you want a good bowl of pasta or oven fired pizza but don't care about service, then you may enjoy this restaurant. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed dining experience here. It has a nice cozy feel - from the ground floor of the brownstone, to the pizza oven burning. I tried the pizza - I started out with a margherita pizza and added sausage to it - delicious! The sauce is nice and simple - has a good, fresh, clean taste to it that isn't trying too hard. It had some deliciously fresh basil on it, and the fresh mozz was ooey-gooey melty goodness! The sausage had a nice balance of fatty/oilyness to meatyness that gave the right pack that I was looking for that little something extra to my pizza. I also ordered their cheesy bread to start - it was alright, definitely not the star of the place and I probably wouldn't get it again unless someone else wanted it, but the pizza - you must get! They have several specialty combos already made out for you or you can build your own with plenty of topping choices - or do like I did and take a pre-made special and add some extra toppings - the possibilities are endless! read more

I love the food at Bacchus. The garlic bread is great and so are the pizzas. The only problem we had was that the waitress was not friendly and came off rude and aggressive. It was like she was working the bar in a western saloon. "What'll ya have"? Very gruff and off putting. This is my second time here and the first time we had a different waitress who was good. We really loved the wood-fired pizza and the smells, decor and vibe in the restaurant was rustic, swanky and excellent, but one key element to our visit to this new spot was the quality (or lack-thereof of our waitress). Michelle was vulgar, frumpy and in need of a real attitude-adjustment. Her conversation with other waitstaff was inappropriate and unprofessional. I am pretty sure she had red wine stains on her teeth as well, very classy. I'm not sure we will be returning anytime soon; when we get the opportunity for a night on the town, we do it for not only the food quality, quality of atmosphere and vibe as well as other key elements like professional waitstaff. Went there for lunch with some co-workers last month. The place was half-full, and the wait staff was very friendly. 2 of us opted for the pizza and pasta lunch buffet, while the other got a pizza. Everything was very good, and the buffet was well stocked. If you go there for lunch, get the buffet as it has the same size pizzas that they serve you individually, and you can half as much as you want/try different ones. This unique restaurant is a great place to go for wood fire pizza. It is tucked away and has these cool looking stone and brick walls. We are from out of town and we were looking for a pizza place. We found this place on recommendation from a child and his Dad seven months ago. They said it was the best pizza in town. We were so glad we took their recommendation. We went back again last night. I arrived at this restaurant well over an hour before closing and was thoroughly disappointed in the lack of service I received when my friends and I walked in and waited several minutes before an employee acknowledged us in a condescending manor and to sit wherever we liked. We proceeded to sit at a booth where we sat for over 15 minutes and when no one came over we got up and left and the employees waved to us on the way out.
