Steak and shrimp combo hibachi dish, garlic noodles and rice.
    Mark C.

Quality food, great service. This place sushi, hibachi and some filapino dishes. Met the owner real nice guy, very personable. The inside ambiance is low key and simple, nothing special. Looks more like a lunch spot and looks like they get a lot of take-out. They don't cook in front of you, that is done in the kitchen. Service is very fast. We had the pork spring rolls(lola lumpia shanghai) for an appetizer, very good. We shared a shrimp and steak hibachi combo dish. Was very good, a little on the salt side. They serve alcohol, always a plus. Will defined go back.

I will never order from Bachi again. This is the 3rd or 4th time I gave them and opportunity. Today my food took over 35 min for pick when quoted 20. I was given an extra shrimp sauce for compensation. My food was disgusting I have a whole plate of food that can be returned besides the rice I picked through but the noodles and vegetables are still on the plate. The slice of cheesecake was frozen, rock hard frozen and they served me this to go. I couldn't even cut into with a knife or a fork initially. I called the restaurant 3x to resolve, no answer.

Just went for a birthday celebration. First time going. Parking is fine but the restaurant is to the back. If you just look for the sign, it will look like it's in an ice cream shop. They have sidewalk signs guiding you. Service was good. The food was good. I ordered hibachi chicken which lasted me two days with me sharing. It was flavorful and it came with rice and noodles. I really liked the noodles. I will definitely be back to support in the future.

Shaved ice deliciousness from the Philippines

I found my new eatery for Filipino cuisine. "BACHI". They serve halo-halo a tall full of goodness with shaved ice and cream. They serve crisp pork belly ( Lechon kawali) yummy one of my favorite Philippine dishes. We ordered Lola's lumpia Shanghai (Philippine fried meat egg rolls) delish. To top it off with some grilled squid. Cooked to perfection. I love everything about this simple eatery. Sevice is outstanding, very attentive servers and crew. The menu is full of my favorites. They have sushi, and hibachi to choose from. I will be back. That's for sure.

The Aesthetic: A relaxed atmosphere with counter service or table service, and a massive sushi menu full of unique and interesting rolls. They have a special vegan sushi menu that also looks great. The Price: The prices are low to average for the city. If you go for the basic or veggie rolls, you can have an affordable meal. I always end up spending a little more because I want to try multiple rolls, but I feel like I can get a good amount of sushi for the price here. The Parking: The parking can get tight on a busy day in this plaza, so I suggest coming a little earlier at lunchtime for the best spot selection. My Order: I've had my ups and downs here, mainly because this is the sushi spot where I realized my aversion to torched sushi rolls. They have multiple torched/smoked options, and the smoky fish taste just isn't for me. I gave it a couple shots, but I can't get into it. My favorites have been the Bachi Roll, the Avocado Roll with cream cheese, and the Ocean Roll. The Conclusion: There is an endless amount of sushi on this menu that caters to carnivores and veggie lovers, I highly recommend trying it!

"Halo Halo" (2nd, prettier version...though I could not eat the frozen block of ice in the middle)

I finally made time to drive out 45 minutes to check out this place in the University area, far north of Charlotte. I hit the place close to 2 pm, and there was only 1 table full. The place itself was casual and cozy...and much smaller than I had anticipated. As expected, it was a walk-up eatery...but the price points were not cheap. Basically, it struck me as an upscaled version of something like Sake Japan. I would have liked the place, but it was incredibly stuffy...as it felt as if they had no A/C on this 90-degree day?!? I regretted not eating outside on their small patio. Anyway, I ordered the Hibachi Combo (NY Strip & Shrimp)...which came with Fried Rice, Sobe Noodles and some Veggies...a very full dish! It might have been a tad short of the fresh, live Hibachi grill demonstration dinner, but still quite good...very fulfilling! Then I decided to try this highly raved and photographed dessert, "Halo Halo". Well, this dessert (which included a scoop of ice cream!) was initially served in an ill-fitting To-Go Cup with a closed lid (Why, I have no idea...given that I was dining in?!?). This busy Shaved Ice/Ice Cream-Plus dessert was literally squeezed and smooshed in together). Seriously, it looked so bad (like some fancy dessert trying to look like an ice cream shake???), it was laughable. Funny thing is that I haven't seen a single version of this dessert in Yelp served like that...like CRAP. I mean, just look at the Yelp picture of this dessert...and imagine that semi-fancy dessert stuffed into an ill-fitting plastic cup with a lid, with ice cream squeezed underneath. WTF?!? Well, as much as I hated doing it, I went back up to the counter and asked for this expensive dessert in a decent cup or glass. Well, they managed to serve up an attractive version of this dessert this time...like the versions I saw in Yelp beforehand. Sadly, I still didn't love it...as the middle portion of the dessert were these frozen SHEETS OF ICE!! I know that a portion of this dessert was supposed to be Shaved Ice, but this was more like a big LUMP of ice. I did like the Lychee-esque toppings on the bottom, but the Ube Ice Cream turned out to be kinda tasteless. OMG...what luck with this dessert. Don't think I'll be ordering that again. I appreciated their second chance efforts, but this dessert was just not happening for me, I guess. So...very mixed feelings about this place. Hated the lack of A/C and the super-botchy desserts (despite the 2nd attempt?)...but I really liked the Hibachi Combo. Also, I liked their menu, and there were plenty of other things I'd like to try...minus that botch-friendly "Halo Halo" lol. Given what I experienced here, I can't give higher than 3 stars. Hopefully I can bump up the review if I return in the future?

Spider roll and Uh it's 10:33 roll
    Celeste D.

Great sushi! The service was good. The place is small so I ordered take out. They had so many different sushi rolls. I got the spider role and the uh it's 10:33 roll. It was very good!! I'm going back to try more sushi rolls and the habachi!

    Shrimp Tempura roll
    Irene E.

Please RUN from this place and do not look back. I already have high expectations because I'm from CA but this has to be the worst bento box and sushi I've ever had. The chicken was dry and oily. Look at how much oil was sitting under the chicken and it was so dry it hurt when I would chew. The tempura veggies were soggy and flavorless and didn't have broccoli. The rice with the orange sauce was the only thing that was good. We ordered shrimp tempura roll on the side and it only had rice and shrimp tempura are you kidding me?? Where is the cucumber or avocado? For the price I spent this was not worth it. The service was good, friendly people but please do better.. you can just tell they do not care about the quality of the food. I promise you can find better food you will be disappointed

    Caliente crunch roll

I love this place it's my first time and I'll certainly be a repeat customer! The food was Ah-Mazing! I ordered the NY strip and shrimp combo dinner with the deep fried caliente crunch rolls and I loved every bite! The waitress was prompt and attentive and made sure I had all I needed. The space is small but still roomy enough to dine in and very clean!!! A local neighborhood gem in university city and I'm so happy to discover it.

Vegan hibachi drizzled with vegan shrimp sauce

Our favorite place for vegan sushi! They have a separate vegan sushi menu and items are clearly labeled. The vegan shrimp sauce elevates the vegetable hibachi and the sushi is superb I always try to eat here when I visit Trader Joe's

    Poke bowl
    AnneShey N.

Found this hiding gem by searching Yelp/near by me restaurant. I love the poke bowl, loaded with everything I like, and good portions of salmon fish. My friend had the hibachi chicken with rice, lo-mein and some veggies. Servings are big enough for two. We also had some edamame, lumpia (spring rolls) they're all good, except the empanadas, tasted okay, and a little dry.

    Shrimp hibachi!
    Nisa Q.

Looks delicious! I only have 2 issues. Veggies and noodles could've been cooked longer and a little more flavor. Worth it though.

I never jumped up so fast and got dressed and headed out the door before in my life. Okay, I did pause to call the store and make sure they were open and it was indeed a real place. And sure enough, they were open - so off I went. This store is in a small parking lot but easy to find. Sometimes they have their store van parked in the parking lot which makes it even easier to spot from the road. The store is only 3 aisles with a back room and 4 freezers full of authentic and delicious Filipino brands but you will not be disappointed. They carry all things Goldilock brands. They even had some Filipino items that I had never been able to find before. The owners are nice and friendly - always asking if I found everything I was looking for. The store is very clean and very well organized. They also offer deliveries and you can get more information on this on their Facebook page. It looks like they break up their delivery schedules by area. You can also call in your order and they will shop for you and you can just pick up for curbside delivery. They also do a pretty good job of updating their inventory on Facebook if you are looking for something specific. I love that I can now go to one store for all things Pinoy and get what I need.

On the afternoon/evening of 8/4/25 my husband and I came in. We ordered rose bubble tea, and lavender bubble tea, both large, oat milk, double boba. The second we came in we saw the girl peak her head out and rolled her eyes. "What do you want." With no energy and heavy attitude. I was polite and said my order. And she seemed upset about something on her mind. We decided to tip her I think 15-18% to see if it would make her happy or brighten her day. She didn't say thank you and she just turned around and walked away. I was not expecting her to say thank you for the tip, but I was expecting her to say thank you or your order will be out soon as a customer service note. There was another guy behind the counter/curtain and he mentioned something which made her go. "Oh well it's too late now, and then she shrugged her shoulders. " and we heard that as we left the building. Got home and within about 20 minutes my husband and I threw up. I have no idea what happened to these drinks, as the curtains are closed behind the counter. I no longer trust this place to make me SAFE food.

As a transplant to Charlotte for work, I'm always searching for the ingredients and flavors I grew up with, and this place delivers. From the fresh seafood counter -- where you'll find beautiful tiger prawns -- to the endless rows of fish sauce, oyster sauce, and every variety of soy sauce imaginable (sweet, dark, mushroom, Japanese), the selection is impressive. The aisles are thoughtfully organized by cuisine and region, which makes navigating the store surprisingly easy, even if you're new to Asian markets. The frozen section alone is worth the trip. If you're looking for dumplings -- Chinese, Japanese, Korean, even Nepalese -- they've got you covered. And don't sleep on the handmade crepe cakes in the freezer. Yes, they're about $25, but they're stunning and absolutely delicious. Honestly, they rival the famous crepe cakes from Lady M in the San Francisco Bay Area, where those cakes can easily run over $100. At this price point, it feels like a steal -- and you'll definitely impress your guests. The produce section is another highlight. The ginger is incredibly fresh, and the variety is fantastic -- from gai lan and sweet chives to cebollitas (Mexican green onions) and crisp green beans. It's a true sensory experience for anyone who loves to cook. This isn't a trendy, boutique grocery store, and that's exactly the charm. It's old-school, practical, and stocked with the essentials. Toward the back right corner, you'll find pallets of noodles in every style -- Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean -- everything you could possibly need for home cooking. The butcher and fishmonger are also available to help, which adds a nice personal touch to the shopping experience. There's also a bakery inside with beautiful fruit-and-cream cakes -- the kind you'll recognize if you've ever celebrated in an Asian household. Light, fresh, and not overly sweet. And if you're a coffee lover, keep an eye out for Café du Monde coffee -- it's usually several dollars cheaper here than at typical grocery stores. A few friendly tips: * Go with a plan -- this place can be overwhelming in the best way. * Don't bring a big entourage unless they're ready to explore. * And if you visit the Pineville location, go hungry -- the food court alone is worth the trip. Both locations are fantastic, but the Pineville store is newer, larger, and especially fun to explore. Shop curious, cook boldly, and enjoy the adventure.

While the Pineville location remains my favorite thanks to its larger food hall and dining options, the Independence store still delivers an impressive experience. The selection is enormous. You'll find fresh produce from around the world, exotic fruits and vegetables, live seafood, blue crabs, an on-site fishmonger, and a full-service butcher counter. The international grocery selection is where this store really shines. Aisles are packed with staples from across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and beyond. Whether you're shopping for Thai curry paste, Vietnamese rice noodles, Japanese snacks, Korean sauces, Spanish ingredients, or Eastern European treats, chances are you'll find it here. One feature I especially enjoy is the freezer section. The cases are organized by country and cuisine, making it easy to browse and discover new foods. It's a small detail, but it turns grocery shopping into a bit of an adventure. On this visit, I came specifically for Korean black bean paste, dark soy sauce, and fresh green beans. Naturally, I left with a few extras. The candy aisle is dangerous in the best possible way. Their coconut candies are always tempting, and I can never resist grabbing a bag of Thai coffee candies while I'm there. The store has a large private parking lot and a loyalty program that offers additional discounts at checkout. If you're a frequent shopper, it's worth signing up. Is it as polished as some specialty markets? No. Is it one of the most interesting grocery stores in Charlotte? Absolutely. Give yourself time when you visit. This isn't the kind of place where you run in for one item and leave five minutes later. It's a place to wander, explore, and discover something new around every corner. A Familiar Craving That Fell a Little Short This Time…read more This review is for L&L Hawaiian Barbecue, and I wish I were writing it with more enthusiasm because I've had good experiences here before. This was probably my third or fourth visit, and I came in craving Hawaiian barbecue--specifically the grill and seafood mix with kalbi short ribs and fried shrimp, something I've ordered many times at other L&L locations, including the one in downtown San Mateo. I arrived around 4:00-4:30 in the afternoon, and there was no one behind the counter. They have a self-order kiosk, which I tried to use, but it was a little clunky and frustrating. Eventually, an employee came out, and I asked if I could just order directly. I requested the combo with only short ribs and shrimp--no fish. He had to check with the chef, which felt unusual since that substitution has never been an issue before, but eventually it was approved. The pineapple coconut smoothie, by the way, was delicious--sweet, cold, and exactly what I needed on a hot day. No complaints there at all. Where things fell short was the portion and overall value. When I got home and took a closer look, there were only six small pieces of shrimp and just one piece of kalbi short rib. Normally, you get two. That difference matters, especially when you've made a 20-minute drive with a certain expectation based on past visits. The flavor was still good. The food tasted like L&L, and the condiments were right--tartar sauce included, which I appreciated. But small details add up. There were no napkins or utensils in the bag, and the portion felt noticeably lighter than what I've received before. To be fair, part of this is on me--I should have double-checked the contents more carefully before leaving. Still, consistency is important, especially when customers return because they remember a reliable experience. I'm not writing this to discourage anyone. There's a whole world of good food out there, and this place can absolutely be part of it. I just hope the team pays closer attention to portions and those small touches that make the experience feel complete. Because when it's done right, L&L really does hit the spot.
