Showed up without a reservation around 8pm on a Friday, but boyfriend and I were able to be seated within 15 min! We split the caprese salad appetizer which was fresh and generously portioned. Italian Dinner in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii... Baci Bistro delivered THIRTY FREE MEALS to my house for my coworkers and me in June 2020! My friend, Lisa M., nominated me on an Instagram contest for Frontline Heroes. The CPB Foundation and #keephawaiicooking awarded 30 Rigatoni with Italian sausage Mahalo Meals to the Hawaii State Hospital (HSH). It was an awesome gift that brought joy to us, the forgotten Government Employees who care for the unwanted mentally ill patients of Hawaii. Because HSH is a locked facility, Chris, the owner of Baci Bistro, brought the 30 meals to my home and I dropped them off at work to one of the security guards, the operator, our staffing clerk, and my fellow employees. The most memorable recipient was the supervisor who was pulling a double shift that day... the free meal brought tears to her eyes! It's a rare occasion when we are remembered and appreciated! As a result of the delicious Mahalo Meal, I wanted to have a dine-in experience at Baci Bistro in Kailua. I asked my friend, Donna O., if she could go with me since she's from Kailua. Luckily, she was available for dinner! We looked at the Yelp business page and noted that even though Baci Bistro opens at 4:30pm (maybe for takeout meals), the first seating is at 5:30pm. I called and left a message on their answering machine. The owner, Chris, called me back from her cell phone to confirm our reservation. Very efficient and clear communication! PARKING: Since it was a Sunday, street parking in the metered stalls was free. There's also a paid parking lot nearby. SERVICE: we didn't really click with our waiter. We wanted to take a video of his grating parmesan cheese on our pasta. He said that he didn't want to be photographed even if it was just of his hands because he didn't like phones. Haha - okay... Later, we asked if Donna could get a complimentary dessert for her birthday. He said that he needed to see her ID. We weren't sure if he was joking or not. We explained that because of COVID-19, the restaurants were closed at the time of her actual birthday... blah, blah, blah... he said that they had been open the whole time, but pick something anyway. Hmmm... alright... ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor seating is available. However, I prefer inside because of the air conditioning. I also enjoy looking at the decorations and Baci Bistro came through! The elegant chandeliers and richly colored carpeting were beautiful! I also liked the mirrors of different shapes and sizes on the wall! I appreciated the natural atrium ambiance! FOOD: Excellent! We shared the melon/prosciutto appetizer which came with kalamata olives. The Beet Salad was split into two plates - a very classy presentation! My Lobster Ravioli had al dente pasta surrounding luscious, shredded lobster meat! My Tiramisu was moist, rich, and creamy! Donna's complimentary Chocolate Decadence was potently decadent! Wow! This was a 5-star experience (even though our waiter could improve...lol!)! I'm so glad that Donna let me surprise her for a belated birthday treat! We both enjoyed the wonderful evening together! A very special place for celebrating the holidays! Definitely make reservations, we saw many turned away because no tables available until after 8:30 pm. The first seating is at 5:30 pm so we parked in the metered parking behind~ .25/10 minutes, ends at 6 pm. There are options for inside & outside/covered seating. We arrived 10 minutes early... Wowza! Each table sparkled with linens, glasses, appetizer plates & utensils. The entire restaurant is impeccably decorated,& clean. It felt like a Night at the Oscars with red carpet, star treatment! We entered from the back door between the drugstore & medical building by Manoa Chocolate. Our table & the hostess stand were out front,& it felt like we were in Florence minus the daylight. The wait staff were all smartly dressed & our waiter made educated wine recommendations- hence a great house Chianti in minutes consumed with fresh, warm bread. We started with a crisp Caesar salad served on chilled plates. Our entree was the cheese ravioli special with the most amazing red sauce. In Italy you would believe the soil of the tomatoes were sent from heaven- they burst with freshness as if straight from the vine, to your mamas kitchen & your mouth in seconds- the dish was inhaled. By that point the restaurant was full, yet calm with quiet, attentive staff appearing & disappearing with no clattering plates, silverware dropping, etc. The final round was the hazelnut gelato. It was if we had stumbled down a brick street in Milan for an artisan's handiwork with every single calorie. Truly an extra special meal & Place. Went here for dinner with friends on a weeknight so it wasn't too busy. Everything sounded delicious so we decided we were going to get three different pastas and we'd share it all. I have a cilantro and parsley allergy so I asked the waitress if all the dishes could be made without parsley and cilantro and no garnish. It seemed like she wrote that down but when the food came out, EVERYTHING has parsley all over it. I was already annoyed especially since I told her it was an allergy. Instead of wasting food and having them make everything all over again I just asked for one of the dishes to be remade and we all didn't end up sharing. The man who came to help with the allergy situation was trying to be very nice about it and allowed my friends to eat the parsley covered scallops on the old plate so at least that didn't go to waste. That was nice of him. The waitress came back to our table and said "my bad now I know." This is honestly what made me really agitated because what is that supposed to mean?! I explicitly told you about my allergy when I ordered... now you know that if someone has an allergy, maybe it's a good idea to let the kitchen know that?! The food ended up being good but wasn't good enough to take away the bad taste in my mouth from the waitress. We are definitely doing our next catch up dinner somewhere else. read more

We made reservations for my moms birthday on a saturday night. Parking was a bit confusing since there are many options, but we just chose to park behind the building and it was fine. For our appetizer we got three orders of their caprese salad. I think one plate of it is shareable between 2-3 people depending how hungry you are. It was so delicious! So refreshing & light :) There's just something about caprese salads that I absolutely love. For my entree I was very stuck between the squid ink pasta or the truffle gnocchi. I ended up choosing the truffle gnocchi. Balanced truffle flavor and the gnocchi was soft & chewy ~ reminded me of mochi. It was also stuffed with some type of filling...maybe it was cheese? Very good nonetheless. Looks small, but is very filling. I also got to try some of my sisters squid ink pasta & that was equally as good. Very creamy sauce & a unique flavor! For dessert my family brought our own cake lol. We called ahead to ask if that was okay & they said it was. We did order some of their espresso martinis though! I wasn't that big of a fan. It was our first time visiting Baci Bistro, and due to COVID, it was take out, which may or may not have impacted the quality. This quaint little spot is near the Kailua Professional Building. Turn left at Jack's and right at the next intersection and you're there. In terms of first impressions, the people were friendly and accommodating. The spot itself is also quite cute and would make for a great dinner date out--an intimate conversation, a few glasses of wine, the night air trickling in. However, the customers weren't being very mindful of social distancing and no one was really helping control the situation. I was anxious just waiting for my food outside. This is probably more of a concern with the customers but still. My 3-star rating is based mainly on the food. We ordered fettuccini x2. Normally, I would have gotten the eggplant parm, but the last couple of times we've had Italian, my wife's fettuccini alfredo had me envious of her plate. It was okay and for the price not spectacular. The sauce was rather thin and there was little of it. I'm not sure if they make their own noodles or not, but the texture didn't give me the impression that they did. I think some of these concerns would be excusable but for roughly $40 after tax, it's difficult for me to recommend. The plus is that the staff was friendly and topped our pasta with mushrooms for no charge. It's more a 3.5 out of 5 because of the service. Will visit again to give them a second chance, but might wait until we can enjoy the atmosphere. read more

I had not eaten here in about 20 years and was a little hesitant when my friend suggested we grab dinner together at Baci Bistro. We were able to make a reservation online, but they were kind enough to let us be seated 30 minutes early since there were seats available. The restaurant is beautiful with outdoor and indoor seating. We were seated to a beautiful table setting with silver and glass...felt special. Bread on the table with the cutest oil and vinegar dispenser Iv ever seen. You have to see the photo to believe it. I ordered a cocktail with home made Limoncello, it was great! However my friend ordered the Bees Need...she gave me a taste after she commented "this tastes like a vacation!" It definitely was one of the best cocktails Ive ever tasted. For starter we shared a carpaccio. The lean lean beef served with greens and capers, doused with lemon and EVOO...it was the perfect start to our meal. Savory and citrusy...got the tastebuds awake! I ordered the squid ink pasta with scallops, parmesan shavings, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms in a cream saffron sauce. It was so flavorful and complex with wonderful textures for the best mouthfeel... I felt like I was in Sicily. My friend orderd the lobster ravioli. She wanted to drink the sauce but settled with sopping it up with the bread that kept coming to the table. We finally ended this perfect meal with vanilla gelato with espresso/affogato. This is real gelato...not the fake stuff that's pretty much ice cream. This had the texture of an actual gelato and I could taste the vanilla bean. The espresso added a warm bitterness that was perfectly balanced. Heaven sent. Most importantly, from the bartender, to our waiter to Chris the owner , were all very kind and helpful. Ive been here three times. The first time the veal picatta was pretty good but small for price. Now there prices have been raised by i dont know - $5.00-$7.00. The prices for sslad look super high now. Id like a salad for one not pay $15.00 for a salad thats for 2 people. Since they raised the price on the veal i went when they hadnt changed the prices onbthe menu but then got an exlensive bill. I didnt like that. At least write on the menu. Or have waiter tell you. Another time i got gnocchi which was too heavy and not ver good. A lot of times the food is over salted too which isnt great. Its hot even with the AC on. If I could give this Italian restaurant six stars, I certainly would. It is, without question, the best dining experience I've had on the island. Baci Bistro has to be one of the best Italian restaurants on island! It was recommended by a few friends (and of course the Yelp reviews). I immediately loved the interior decor, very warm and welcoming with a perfect Italian vibe. They have a great wine & cocktail selection, which didn't disappoint. They do a good dirty martini, a good espresso martini & they are nicely generous with the wine pours. Our server was fantastic. I wish I could remember his name to give him credit for creating an awesome, memorable night for us. He was attentive and fun, but not overbearing. For appetizers, we tried the melon & prosciutto along with the beef carpaccio. The carpaccio wasn't our favorite. It was under seasoned and just not as tender as I usually get. The melon & prosciutto was great! For entrees, the lobster ravioli and the picatta were both incredible. I got my picatta over fettuccine alfredo instead of buttered pasta since I couldn't decide between the two dishes. It was the best combo. We will be coming back for sure! Came here on a recommendation from a friend. So glad we did. As soon as we had their hot bread with vinegar and oil, I knew dinner would be good. The bread was hot and chewy with a slightly crispy crust. For our main course my husband had the Pappardelle Del Campo and I had the trout special. My husband's dish was so tasty. Served in a bowl with the meaty sauce over thick chow fun-like noodles. My trout was tasty and not fishy. The sauce was a tomato-based sauce with capers. So good! And the best part, they use freshly grated-at- your-table parmesan cheese. I ate it my whole meal! And it was a good size. The icing on the cake: service was amazing. From the host, to the bus boy, to our waiter, to the owner. Everyone made us feel so welcomed and valued. We live in Aiea and we will definitely be back. Sorry no pics. Wee had an amazing experience for a girls night out at Baci Bistro. Ambience was great and felt intimate. All of the food is delicious, with the exception of the beef carpaccio. It was lacking flavor, not bad, but needed a lot of doctoring. I started with the grilled calamari - so tasty and tender. For my entrée I got the fresh catch, piccata style, I also subbed the noodles for fresh veggies which was not an issue with the wait staff. With an open seating area near the entrance, the servers quickly approach you and welcome you. We came here on a Friday evening. Since the place has limited seating, the servers suggested we sit outside. We waited for our table for about 15 mins. We ordered the calamari. The server told us that the chef prepares the calamari as a steak. But the chef cuts the steak into smaller pieces. The calamari tasted smooth like butter! It melts in your mouth and does not taste at all tough. Grilled For the entrees, I ordered the spaghetti tutti mari. It comes with shrimp, mussels, calamari in spicy tomato sauce with basil. It tastes a bit spicy for me. Joseph ordered the rigatoni con salsiccis (short tubes with sausage), and our friend, Sony ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. Family dinner at Baci Bistro was amazing. The kids kept repeating how fancy it was. Zy learned how to use a lap napkin . Zeke wanted to bang on the metal decorative plate. Every staff member was so welcoming and sweet! We started off with calamari. It wasn't fried but was the grilled hood of the squid. It's harder to do correctly and was a bout a half inch thick steak. Grilled to perfection and very delicious. Its so much nice to have it this style instead of the typical caked in batter and fried. Nice firmness to it. If you overcook it it gets rubbery, this was perfectly done. I had the Rigatoni con Salsiccia for my entree Very tasty. It s an italian sausage tomato sauce had nice accents of sweet and spicy. Pasta tasted freshly made as well. I didn't really sample anyone else's but my wife loved her Spaghetti Tutti Mari with an assortment of seafood and the fettuccine my friend has was said to be good standard fare. We were celebrating a friends birthday and this place came highly recommended as the birthday girls loves Italian food. The best part is the take reservations and was able to accomplish group of 7. Situated in beautiful Kailua, there's quite a few street parking and public parking. I found metered public parking amd was within walking distance. We arrived at the restaurant and immediately was checked in and escorted to our seats. They sat us in an open area outside. Being my first time there, I was immediately captivated by their excellence customer service. They were very attentive and accommodating. I was stuck between ordering the Risotto or the Squid Ink. I ended up going with the Risotto with shrimp and peas! Being in Hawai'i it's very hard to find a restaurant that has Risotto. I also added a Caesar salad amd topped it off with a Creme Brûlée. Overall, the food was excellent and the customer service was top notch. They made sure that we were good and even shared that they want to make sure we leave happy and satisfied. We're usually not big on Italian food but decided to try this local favorite and the food was so delicious & great presentation. From the street it doesn't look very big but there is both indoor and some patio seating, a full bar, and great wine selection. We started with mushroom soup (it was rainy and this was perfect), then we both got the evening specials - I got the wild salmon with pesto sauce and fresh veggies. My husband decided on the Ahi steak with wasabi sauce and fresh veggies (I stole some of his sauce because it was delicious). We finished the evening by sharing the islands beat cheesecake with a berry drizzle - holy yumminess- no matter what you order save room for dessert. I'll definitely be going back to try some pasta dishes and other items from the dessert menu. The vibe is casual however it's perfect for a romantic dinner, celebrating a special event, and you can easily dress up and wouldn't be out of place. BACI BISTRO has been a mainstay for Italian cuisine in the heart of Kailua for many years. This is a popular restaurant therefore reservations are highly recommended. We dined on a weekday evening slightly prior to 8:00 and the restaurant was moderately full with people still coming in to dine at this time. Parking for Baci Bistro is in the rear within a large metered lot if you cannot find adjacent street parking. Bring quarters since the meters are still the ancient type that does not accept credit cards. A few reviewers have mentioned that you don't have to feed the meters after 6:00 PM but there is a sign posted stating that parking meters are enforced 24 hrs per day. I did notice several cars had expired meters so do what you want at your own risk. Upon arriving we were politely greeted and promptly seated. The restaurant had an upbeat vintage small town restaurant vibe and was neat and tidy. The chairs were really firm, so you never will get too comfy and doze off in them. We started off with some wine and beer, and my Peroni was served nicely chilled in a frosted glass, so refreshing! A complimentary bread basket was also brought to the table. We had to ask for the the oil / vinegar and glasses of water that were not initially offered. Other than that service was prompt and polite. We had the Roasted Beet Salad to begin our meal which was large enough to easily share. The combination of roasted beets, greens, goat cheese, and balsamic reduction was delicious and well presented. Upon finishing our salad the dishes were cleared, and our entrees arrived in a timely manner. We had the Lobster Ravioli, Spaghetti Tutti Mari, and Scallopine de Vitello al Marsala. A generous compliment of freshly grated parmesan cheese at tableside was offered along with additional bread if so desired. The portion of the Lobster Ravioli was on the smaller side; however, the ravioli was generously packed with lobster meat and was bathing in a decadently rich sauce perfect for dipping Italian bread into. A wonderful potpourri of the ocean's bounty, the Tutti Mari contained shrimp, clams, mussels, and calamari in a zesty tomato oriented sauce. This seafood extravaganza was served with pasta. All seafood was moist, tender, and cooked perfectly. The Veal Marsala sauce and tender veal was to die for providing 100% satisfaction to my taste buds. The pasta provided in the Tutti Mari and Veal Marsala was not quite a dente, being just a tad overcooked. Still enjoyable but could have been better. The glasses of wine paired well with our meal were delightful, and the pour was generous... thank you! We had Panna Cotta and a Beautiful after dinner cocktail for dessert. The panna cotta was smooth and deliciously topped with fresh fruit, a wonderful finale to our meal. I didn't care for the method in which the Beautiful was prepared and would have enjoyed it more if it were served neat. I believe that the cognac and Grand Marnier was poured over a small bit of ice when made as it was chilled and diluted when served. This is the less popular way to prepare the cocktail, not wrong, however, not preferred by most ordering the drink. I heard mixed reviews regarding this Restaurant. Most were good reviews. I came in with an open mind and I'm glad I gave them a chance. The staff were great Everyone made sure we were taken care of. I'm really bummed that I don't have the pictures from dinner here, but we got new phones and I totally forgot to back it up before hand (shame). But this hidden gem in Kailua town is in the same complex as Cinnamons. We had to check it out after receiving a generous gift certificate from a friend. Once you enter you'll see complete Italian decor (floor to ceiling)! I've never been to Italy but I imagine a small restaurant there to look and feel like this. Indoor seating is quite intimate, about 20 total seats. Didn't see outside but you could hear quite the crowd out there. Waitress was amazing! She's so knowledgeable and friendly. We even got to meet the manager just to thank for the great experience. But then found out that he makes the fantastic cheesecake! He tries new things every Saturday so we're definitely planning to come back soon! Our menu for the night was Ravioli Del Giorno (ravioli of the day) hand made ravioli, I could not pass that up!! Absolutely Devine! I can't remember the name of the dish but it's ONLY AVAILABLE on TUESDAYS and is an amazing veal dish. Sauce is superb and meat so tender! It's placed ontop risotto. A little bit of wine and beer then we're on dessert, mascarpone cheesecake with berry sauce, I need more of this in my life. I think we found our perfect celebratory restaurant in Kailua! Reliable go-to for a special night out or just because we don't want to cook. Love the truffle gnocchi (we share it as a decadent appetizer), the beat salad, and, for me, the chicken or fish piccata. Sat at the bar, service was prompt and attentive. Ordered house red, hubby Manhattan, both were good. Next ordered potato leek soup, roasted garlic bread and truffle gnocchi, all to share with my man. To my surprise, both appetizers and meal came out at exactly the same time, while eating our soup and bread, the entree was sitting there getting cold. Also roasted garlic bread was bland, so I requested minced garlic which was amazing and like fire. Made a world of difference on the bread and gnocchi. Great Keoki coffee, crème brûlée was good, but definitely not a shareable portion which would have been nice. Otherwise, pleasantly surprised with overall service, taste and quality of food. Solid 4, make it a 5 with more garlic for authenticity, and crème brûlée in a larger ramekin for a shareable portion size. read more

As the restrictions of our lockdown are lifting, our restaurants are all extremely crowded. We called several places looking for a seafood restaurant and couldn't find any that were available and were very fortunate to be able to find a table available at Baci. I have a minor complaint, not about Baci, but about Hawaii restaurants in general. Sometimes I just want a plate of clams or moules frites (mussels and fries) but I haven't really found many places that serve this. It's almost impossible to find mussels with fries. When we arrived at Baci, we'd been spending the day at Kailua Beach and I was monstrously hangry. I was craving moules frite. I asked our server if they had fries but unfortunately they did not. He told me he'd ask the chef what he could come up with and so I agreed to leave it up to him. We ordered a beet salad to start and they brought us some great crusty bread. Beat salad was a 5 star salad! Perfectly dressed with a light vinaigrette and surrounded by thick slices of fresh beets. This was my favorite. I ordered the mussels (appetizer portion) which was a good size. They were perfectly cooked in a light tomato based sauce. I enjoyed these very much, but I really wished they'd had fries to go with my mussels. The server brought me eggplant and zucchini slices instead. To be fair, these tasted fine, but i definitely would have preferred fries. My dining companion had ono with garlic pasta. There was a huge piece of ono with garlicky pasta. The fish and pasta went together well. Overall we had a very pleasant evening here. read more
