Super disappointed on an old favorite Tonight for my anniversary, I went to Baci Bistro bistro in Kailua. We are club members there and I have never had a bad meal But today, I was so disappointed in my experience We arrived at 4:56 for a 5 PM reservation The doors were open. The tables were set, and I walked up to the hostess and let her know we had arrived.. She advised me that we were early and that she would ask the waiter if it was OK to seat us early. (EARLY !???? 4 minutes!????) Ok - I thought this was strange, but kept my mouth shut and was seated after she came back and told us the waiter would serve us, even though we were early We let them know we were club members and as a member of the club, you pay $50 a month and your first visit each month you get a complementary bottle of House wine. So I asked what the house Chardonnay was and ordered a bottle.. When we ordered our meals, I ordered the risotto with peas and shrimp, but asked if I could substitute the shrimp for scallops. This is not the first time I have done this, in the past the Manager had recommended this to me as a good substitution since I don't like shrimp.. The waiter took our order and left and then came back and informed me that shrimp is less expensive than scallops and so there would be an up charge of $11 And so I asked, so what you're saying is I'm going to pay the $25.95 for the risotto and another $11 for scallops? And he said yes. OK whatever they've never charged me before but that is fine. Our meals came and I got three scallops, each smaller than the size of a quarter. Really!!???? instead of giving me 7 to 10 shrimp you are giving me three tiny scallops and charging me $11 extra.??!! But it was my anniversary and I didn't wanna ruin the evening so, OK fine. We eat our meals and we're ready to check out when the waiter came with our ticket and the bottle of wine was being charged with a 30% discount. I explained that as club members our bottle of wine should be free, and he said he had called the owner and the owner said / no it's only 30% off. And so I asked for the Manager. The manager said he also spoke with the owner and the bottle was supposed to be 30% off. So I brought up their website and showed them their own offering that if you are a club member you pay $50 a month to be a club member and the reward is that you get a free bottle of House wine every month. When you click on "learn more "it restates it again that every month you get one free bottle of House wine with your first visit. It is August 4, this is my first visit this month!! After much to do, the manager adjusted my ticket and I paid and we left. It wasn't until I got to my car that I realized that when I clicked on 20% tip, it calculated that automatically as $35 But my bill was only $120 So I got cheated on that too!!! I have never been so disappointed, this has always been an excellent restaurant with excellent food and somewhere that I always take people when they come to visit us. I felt very cheated and miss handled today.. what a disappointment! I never even got an apology from the manager after he realized the mistake. We ended up here as a fallback plan after the wait at Haleiwa Joe's got too long. Overall, this was a pretty mediocre dining experience, but the biggest issue -- and the reason we would not recommend this restaurant -- was food safety. The restaurant itself is very small and, honestly, felt poorly managed on the Sunday night we visited. It appeared the manager had staffed the place almost entirely with high school-aged kids. To be fair, they were all polite and friendly, but they clearly were not trained professional waitstaff. The hostess in particular seemed completely overwhelmed and unsure of what she was doing. The food itself was average at best for the price point. Ambiance was okay, nothing particularly memorable one way or the other. We probably would have left thinking "meh, it was fine" except for one major problem. My wife ordered the seafood spaghetti, and the New Zealand mussels in the dish were BAD. Not "a little fishy" bad -- genuinely spoiled bad. The smell and taste were immediately obvious. We brought it to the manager's attention, and her response honestly shocked me more than the mussels themselves. She casually explained that sometimes they get "bad batches of mussels and you can't tell," as if serving spoiled mussels is just an unavoidable normal occurrence. That is not an acceptable answer from a restaurant serving seafood. To their credit, they did remove the dish from the bill, which was the minimum they should have done. Unfortunately, later that night my wife ended up vomiting after dinner. Thankfully it was not severe enough to ruin our vacation or require medical attention, but it absolutely confirmed our concern that something was wrong with the food. At the end of the day, average food and mediocre service are one thing. Serving spoiled shellfish and responding to the complaint with a shrug is another. We would not return. read more

We were told that they were out of most of the red wines. Then they were out of house bread. Our garlic bread appetizer was served with very old stale bread and under-cooked garlic. They were also out of vanilla gelato, which is an ingredient in quite a few of the desserts. Our actual entrees were tasty, so kudos to the chef for that. Good Italian places are hard to find in Hawaii but baci adequately met my pasta craving need. Restaurant is located in Kailua right off of kuulei road. Plenty of street parking and spots at the garage behind HNB. Inside they decorated everything to look like you're sitting in a greenhouse or garden terrace. Bread and oil was given when we sat down and we split the prosciutto e melone appetizer which was pretty good. Our main dishes were good, we just wish the portion was bigger for the price. Our group chose this great Italian restaurant that's quaint. We did a lot of sharing. We did the beet salad with goat cheese which was amazing, the classic Caesar salad, seafood risotto, pollo picante, spaghetti with shrimp, and the dessert sampler. All of it was amazing. Baci Bistro is honestly one of my favorite Italian spots in Kailua, and the food is always really good. However, I've had ongoing issues with their takeout orders that have been really frustrating. Almost every time I order takeout for my family, something goes wrong. Either food is missing from the bag, the order gets mixed up, or items that were clearly ordered and repeated back to me somehow don't get put on the ticket and never get made. Unfortunately this has happened about six times now. Most recently, I ordered two piccatas, one chicken alfredo, bruschetta, and the three tomato salad. The hostess repeated the order back to me and confirmed everything was in the bag when I picked it up. When I got home, the chicken alfredo was missing. I called and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes, but when I drove back I ended up waiting about 40 minutes. By the time I got home again, the rest of the food was cold. The tomato salad was also missing most of the balsamic glaze this time, which normally comes with a good amount. I really do love the food here, which is why I keep coming back. I just wish the takeout process was more consistent because the mistakes and extra driving back to the restaurant have been disappointing. read more

Writing this review honestly makes me sad and extremely disappointed because I loved this restaurant. I came here more than once a month, recommended it to others, and considered myself a regular. My family came to visit, so I decided to bring them to a restaurant I genuinely loved. My family is low income, and I wanted to pay for the meal, but my mom ended up paying, which was fine. My 85-year-old grandmother then left a $20 tip. I already planned on giving more after my family walked away. What happened next completely changed my view of this place. The staff started talking badly about my family, complaining that a $20 tip wasn't enough, and the waitress was making rude faces and acting extremely disrespectful. They had no idea I was planning to leave more. A $20 tip from an 85-year-old woman who doesn't work should be appreciated, not mocked or criticized. Their behavior was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and honestly embarrassing. Iused to love this restaurant and recommend it to people. After today, I will never come back. There was live music which made the night feel extra special, and the staff was so friendly and welcoming the entire time. An Italian hole in the wall in Kailua with cute decor. Unfortunately I was disappointed in the food. The appetizers were decent, ones you can't really miss the flavor target: caprese and the melon prosciutto. My husband didn't care for the prosciutto as it was too salty but I felt the melon was sweet enough to balance it all out. Caprese salad wasn't anything special, just something I love to have. Our immediate server was kind, calm and helpful constantly checking up on us so, great work Azziriah! The busser however seemed anxious and constantly moving back and forth making it hard to relax and enjoy. One off putting issue was that he kicked our already unstable table and was forgetful in apologizing, so that took away from star points. The main course food was quite bland and reason there was some flavor was due to the Parmesan cheese. When leaving the restaurant I did notice that they left the cheese block unattended near the open back door...... Definitely not a place I will be coming back especially if the bill came out to $138 and food was satisfying. We were a party of 4 on a Saturday night at 7:00PM. Our server, Gabe was friendly and knowledgeable. It was a very busy evening. We ordered a bottle of wine and the large beet salad to share. The evening started well, but the food service was extremely slow. We had waited for about an hour, Gabe came by to let us know our food would be up soon. We ordered a second bottle of wine and bread with garlic. The garlic was burnt, black and so hard that we weren't able to spread it. The bussers were quite young and seemed untrained. They weren't attentive and Gabe had to clear our plates. At one point I saw a busser sitting at the bar. I noticed a woman helping to expedite food. I walked up to her to ask if she could tell me if our order would be up soon, we'd been waiting for about an hour. The woman pointed to the table across from us and said, "See that table? They waited for an hour." I said "An hour is a long time to wait for entrees." The woman replied, "that's restaurants" and walked away. Our interaction was upsetting. I asked our server who she was and he said "that's our manager." I told Gabe about our conversation and he dropped his head like "not again". As the manager, I would have expected her to say something more like, "I'm sorry you've had to wait so long for your food. This is an unusually busy night and we're trying our best to get caught up. We appreciate your patience and let me check on your order." But she didn't. The fettuccine Alfredo was decent as was the beet salad. The scampi was cheap frozen shrimp, not scampi. Gabe ended up taking two apps off our check which was appreciated. The food was decent Italian food. There aren't many choices for Italian in Kailua. We entered a few minutes before they actually opened but we were seated.The Friendly staff was attentive. Service was a little slow towards the end when we ordered our desserts. This was my first time at Baci Bistro and if I lived in the area, I'd likely make it a go-to place! There's metered street parking available along the front and a paid parking lot just behind the restaurant as well. Our group was there for a birthday celebration and we had a party of 7, including 2 kids. I think smaller party sizes are better, because they can get you in and out quickly, but they definitely do accommodate more folks if you need it. We didn't make a reservation, so not sure if they offer them, but we got there just as they opened and we're seated relatively quickly. Our server, Cheynell, was excellent! She was patient with the little ones, friendly and attentive to our needs through the meal, answered our questions, and made helpful recommendations. The only negative part of our experience here was the wait time to get our food was quite long. The kids orders went in early so they could eat, but they were already done before the rest of our food came out... Thankfully, the food was absolutely delicious!! Always a fun time at this family run restaurant that we've been coming to for years. Cozy spot for family dinners, meeting up with friends, and special occasions! For apps we usually get bruschetta, calamari steak, and salads. The calamari was so tender at this visit! My favorite is the Linguine Nere Con Capesante (Squid ink linguine with scallops, mushrooms and sundried tomatoes in a saffron cream sauce). It'll have you wanting to scrape the bowl clean with bread, that good. The scallops on top were also very tender at this visit. I was very disappointed in the dining experience at Baci Bistro on May 7, 2026. Our waiter was very young and inexperienced. He seemed nervous. My partner ordered a cocktail. A man behind the bar with a baseball cap and casual T-Shirt made the drink which took a long time to be served. We told the waiter we wanted to enjoy the cocktail first. The soup and salad came before the cocktail. I was eating my salad and I found a long hair in the salad. The waiter asked if I wanted him to take the salad away. I said yes I could not eat it anymore. He did not offer me another salad or refund. My partner ordered Saltimbocca Di Vitello for $40. He said the veal was very thin and there was hardly any cheese in the entree. I had a Fusilli Vegatables for $25. Both meals were over priced. We were still enjoying our meals with a pause in eating and another waiter asked if we wanted a box. We said we were not finished eating. The waiters rushed the entire dining experience. When the bill came the prices did not match the prices on the menu. We told the waiter and he said he would tell the manager. The food is overpriced and the service was very poor. Baci Bistro recently reopened for lunch. We were excited to try the restaurant for my birthday lunch. We had a party of eight. Five of us ordered the fish special, the ono. I ordered gluten free pasta with my dish. The pasta was half cooked, and the fish was over cooked, dry and tasted burnt. Interestingly, the five special fish dishes came out with all different sizes and thickness of fish. It was very obvious the portions were not equal. I had two of the smallest and thinest pieces of fish, and uncooked pasta for my birthday dish! It was the worst fish dish I have ever tasted in my life. It was so bad, two of us sent our fish back. Our fish "Redos," came back plain with no sauce! One of the "Redos," the fish was barely cooked and was SENT BACK AGAIN!The chicken and sausage pasta dish arrived with NO sausage! We RSVP'd for 13 and was seated quickly but.... we were seated outside :( It was SO hot with no wind so it was very uncomfortable. It's a smaller space compared to typical restaurants in the area, but it's warm, inviting, and intimate. It's a wonderful place to catch up with friends over outstanding Italian cuisine or to celebrate a birthday with family. They also offer optional outdoor seating in their lanai. I usually reserve online to avoid any wait and to request my preferred seating. My go-to favorites are the squid ink pasta with scallops, the beet salad, and--depending on my mood--either the classic tiramisu or the decadent in-house chocolate cake. Yum! We made 5:00 PM reservations on the lanai in front of Baci Bistro, as we knew it was going to get crowded as the evening went on, and it's a good thing we did just that. Very friendly and attentive to our needs as well as checking up on us pretty frequently! My wife on the other hand was quite disappointed with the lobster ravioli. It only came with 4 ravioli and was more of a soup with ravioli in it. The taste was quite nice and the lack of size was redeemed by the free bread that was really good. We got the burrata special as an appetizer; kind of hate ordering specials because you never know how much it cost until it gets there, it was pretty much the spring mix from Costco with balsamic; but the mozzarella was really good, and the tomatoes were superb. ($16) Service was pretty slow, but they started to get pretty busy so it's understandable. It's one of my favorite Italian dining spots on the island. Parking is always a bit tricky since it's metered, but if you're lucky, you can grab a spot right in front. Otherwise, there are two lots, just behind the bldg and one across the street. On this occasion, I ordered some takeout to enjoy with my daughter at her place in town. I know she loves a great Fettuccine Alfredo, and this is one of the few places that serves a Veal Marsala (which I love), so these were a given to order. They also have a really great Caprese salad, with the freshest mozzarella and sweet red tomatoes. Along with a Caesars salad, this was a full meal. I placed my order over the phone, and everything was ready when I got there. Even after 20 minutes into town, the food was still at a good temp (hot entrees were warm and cold salads were cold) and delicious, as usual. Love their food and dine in service has always been great. They even have a Keiki (child) menu for the kids or light eaters. The wine list is fairly good, and they offer dull bar service. Love it here! The food is yummy and the staff is so friendly. It's a small place but it makes it cozy.

I heard about this place earlier this year. My girlfriend and I went to Windward Mall and were deciding on what to eat after. Nothing at the mall was interesting us so I was checking what was nearby. Then I remembered this place and since we both love Italian food, we decided to go. We got there about an hour and a half before they closed. We didn't have a reservation but they were able to seat us. Their emblem is a kiss mark. My girlfriend has a similar tattoo so all the workers noticed and loved that. Very nice staff. The food is really good. I played it safe and got the chicken fettuccine Alfredo. She got the gnocchi. She won lol. I had 1 piece because she was not going to give up any more of that delicious dish. I couldn't blame her. It was so good! We ended with some desert. We had the chocolate pastry puff things Also good! We sat for a bit after. They didn't pressure us to leave. If I had one note, because we were there closer to closing, some of the workers were winding down and making themselves food and being kind of loud. I ordered the truffle gnocchi as takeout. This is the full portion. I thought it was funny. Tastes like it was cooked in butter with a truffle in the room but definitely not in the pan. It makes a La Croix seem flavorful. The texture of the gnocchi was great though. For the price, I expected more so it was disappointing but not inedible by any means. Definitely won't be going back though. read more
