Pork pork pork and more pork! This place has a list of 10 or so pork sandwiches, plus a veggie burger for those who don't want meat. I've only tried the bahn mi but it was delicious! The pork was pulled style with an Asian profile of flavors. There was also some German bologna, which I don't think was really necessary but oh well. The sandwich was topped with a broccoli slaw mix, cucumbers, cilantro and sriracha. Yum! Everything was very fresh and flavorful. The only downside was the sandwich was kind of hard to eat because the roll was chewy. Just be prepared to get sriracha all over your face! The sandwich also came with a side of either baked beans or Mac salad. I tried the Mac salad and it was very good with fresh herbs and sweet pickle. On a side note, I had this sandwich as takeout so I haven't seen the shop itself. I wanted to like this place, I can tell that for the most part they use quality ingredients and I appreciate their creativity, but I was a little underwhelmed with my recent meal I got the hot hog sandwich. It had pork, bbq sauce, jalapenos, ham, cheese, and I think bacon on a ciabatta roll. I don't usually like that style of roll but it was actually pretty good. I wasn't sure if this place smoked their meat or not when I first heard about it. I assumed that a place like this would, but then when I saw the menu I got skeptical, and then when I got there I seemed sure that they didn't, then when I ate the sandwich it was confirmed. No smoke. bummer. the bbq sauce on the sandwich was really sweet, almost too sweet, and if the meat was smoked then that would have balanced out some of that sweetness. the jalapenos should have balanced some of that out but they didn't, I dunno how but they didn't really add any flavor or heat to the sandwich. I didn't care for the cheese on it either, it was too creamy, they should have used a sharp cheddar in my opinion. the ham also got lost in the mix, and if there was bacon on it then it was forgettable because I literally can't remember if it was there or not. it also seemed like there was an odd seasoning on it, I feel like I remember it kinda tasting like a taco. I like tacos but that flavor was unexpected and kinda out of place. the meat was tender and juicy though, I've had worse quality meat from bbq places that actually do smoke their meat. They also need more side options, baked beans and mac salad are kinda boring options, at least add coleslaw! slaw is a perfect partner for pork! I had the baked beans and they sucked, I only had 2 bites, they were brown sugar beans right out of a can that may have been doctored up a little bit, but not enough. I did try a piece of key lime pie for dessert that was pretty solid! There was one other sandwich on the menu that I would have liked to try, but honestly I'm never in owego, so next time I'm back I wanna try some other places, I've been meaning to try Las Chicas for a while now, or even the Pig's big brother The Owego Kitchen. The vibes are cool here though, it's a little spot in the back of a restaurant with some picnic tables, just beware of rude customers like the woman who cut in front of me in line and ordered $40 worth of food! read more

This is the perfect spot to enjoy a summer day--good food and a casual outdoor setting make for a relaxing lunch. The menu consists of creative pork sandwiches and a veggie option as well. On Wednesdays the pulled pork sandwiches and a side are $6, Though I'm pretty sure the pork isn't smoked, it still tasted good. The bbq sauce is sweet and a little spicy--there was plenty of it so it soaked into the ciabatta roll (which is good because I usually have a hard time eating those) and is topped with bread and butter pickles. I agree with another reviewer that cole slaw would be a great side or topping for this sandwich as it was a little sweet for me. I had the macaroni salad, which was also good. I would have been perfectly happy with this sandwich had a friend and I not also tried the Korean pork sandwich--the flavor of which was amazing. The menu indicates smoky (didn't taste smoke) pork roast is topped with crispy onions (I didn't notice them, but there was a lot going on inside that ciabatta roll), kimchi aioli, pineapple slaw and Korean BBQ sauce (the predominant flavor). My goal for the summer is to try the entire menu--it won't be too hard to resist the pulled pork, but I'm going to crave the Korean pork sandwich so I may not achieve my goal. read more

Little disappointed for my first trip. Barbeque was good, but the baked beans were right out of the can and cold. 2 sandwiches and diet cokes for $25 excluding tip was pricey for Owego. Probably won't return very often. read more

Had the pulled pork and baked beans. Among Dippers, Virgils, and Back Alley, Back Alley had the best. The pork was more authentic. However, it could have used more smoke. Beans were good. Portion size okay. Unless eating in The Kitchen, tables are out back under an awning. Ordered at the walk up window and service was quick. I Can't say enough about the Back Alley Pig. It always pleases. I bring all my out of town visitors to this back alley addition to its big sister at the front of the building (The Owego Kitchen)- which is also great! This seasonal outdoor picnic meal is ordered at the walk up window. Because each BBQ item is a unique flavor, the menu is small yet diverse and has something for everyone. Everything on the menu is an amazingly fair price of only $9.00. Don't try to pick, just keep coming back until you have one of everything. My favorite is the Garbage Plate because it's a fantastic combo of all the BBQ favorites- it's a huge serving though- so come hungry. There is a charming covered patio to enjoy the feast.
