A spiedie, (pronounced "speedy", ) famous in Binghamton, is simply a marinated chicken sandwich on a roll. You order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. I ordered a 6 inch sandwich. They have several different styles, but I simply went with the original. Oh, my, I can see why this sandwich has such a following. The sesame seed roll was tender, and oh the chicken... it was chock full of chicken, It was moist, it was tender, and yes, it was marinated very well. I don't know what they use, but it was just absolutely an amazing sandwich. A simple 6 inch sandwich, and I was stuffed. A sandwich and a soda, and I was 10 bucks and change out the door. This review encompasses two visits on a trip to and from NY from NC. Our family stopped in on 7/18 and ordered one original 12 inch spiedie and one Greek spiedie along with a side of macaroni salad. I didn't remember to add mayo and lettuce to our original, so it was a little dry. I did ask for mayo and lettuce and added it. The macaroni salad was really good! Today (7/25) we stopped in to have lunch with family who are local on our way back to NC. The spiedes were really sloppy and so saturated the bread was mushy. The 12 inch original my husband and I were sharing was super saturated. Unfortunately one of the chunks of chicken was served raw in the middle and I ate a bite out of it before I noticed the raw inside. I took the piece to the employee working the to go counter and she offered to remake our order and refunded by husband's card. I appreciate the business making it right. Hopefully our next trip will be a more positive experience. However overall the two stops were not bad, even with undercooked chicken. read more

Don't even get me started on how much I LOVE Spiedie and Rib Pit! As a Binghamton native, this place is a must every time I'm back in town. They are my personal favorite place in the area to get spiedies. I haven't been here in years and was really looking forward to my meal. I didn't want a lot of bread, so I was thrilled to see the salads. I ordered the Greek Spiedie Salad with tzatziki on the side.it was a pretty good sized salad with a nice portion of Spiedie Chicken. Everything in the salad was fresh, the tzatziki sauce was very good...but the biggest disappointment was the chicken. So many of the pieces were really dry. It was hard to chew some of them even when I cut them in smaller pieces. The employees were friendly and all seemed to be working hard during this very busy lunchtime. So here's another if you're from Binghamton you're no stranger to a spiedie but if you're not from Binghamton you won't know what it is or how to spell it. I came here for dinner and ironically didn't get a spiedie sub which they have many variations of! I got the Soco fried chicken sandwich and an order of onion rings and a drink and it came to $16 and change. I usually get this sandwich without the slaw but today I tried it with and it tastes the same but adds a little extra crunch which I don't mind. The soco is a piece of fried chicken boneless of course with a chipotle sauce spicy pickles and spicy slaw but not so spicy you want to chug a water and it's absolutely delicious!the onion rings were crunchy but not burnt and you get a lot for a regular order and even more for a large same for the fries. Now if you've gotten this far and still wondering what a spiedie is it's a marinated piece of chicken but not normal chicken it's fantastic and it has a good char and basically it's Binghamton's baby!. Spiedie and rib pit also holds a lot of history here and at some point as a kid I was told about some feud in the family there is a relation to Lupo's (another spiedie place) as they have a quote from grandpa Lupo himself on the wall. Anyway I waited about 10 minutes max and my food was brought to the table so not a long wait but if you want to get in and out I suggest ordering ahead online but for sit down it was no trouble. Great place to stop for a bite in binghamton! We were in town for the Luma festival and wanted to grab food first. This place had great reviews and it didn't disappoint. The BBQ was some of the best we've ever had! The ribs are seriously fantastic. I personally would skip the Spiedie next time. We got some on bread and some on a salad. It was just too dry and not really my taste (for anyone wondering, it's similar to kebab chicken!) When I recently was going to take a bus to Binghamton, I knew I had to stop by. My grandparents and I were initially confused when we parked since we didn't know Spiedie and Rib Pit was in a new building! However, we quickly realized the situation and walked over. We took a moment to look at the menu then ordered. I ended up opting for a 6 inch plain chicken spiedie with a side of mac salad. We received a number and went to sit down. After a few minutes the food came out. Everything was so delicious. It was even better than memory had served. All in all, it's not a bad place, I would call it more geared toward being a sandwich shop than a trtraditional bbq place. I would go here again, but only if I was in the area and needed to stop. I wouldn't go out if my way to go here though. I always make a stop at a spiedie joint when down in the Bingo area... this time it was an en route meal coming out to the Finger Lakes from Saratoga (via I-88 and I-86). Usually I'm here for work and the Spiedie and Rib pit on Vestal Parkway is close to the hotel. There was a great Lupos Char Pit in a pretty dicey part of Binghamton that was my favorite, but they closed it (prob a good thing...the area was pretty ghetto and urban decay lots of death knell vacant retail spots). The Spidie and Rib Pit on this trip is pretty ideal...right near the junction of I-81, I-88, and I-86...this was basically the halfway point. The pork spiedie had a nice vinegar bite on the marinade... the Italian roll was fresh, soft, but it's always really secondary to the meat. Good sides...i took the potato salad (not too much mayo...a good thing). Done right w a little sweetness...(some places are so bland on this one..). Their spiedies are a great value for the 12 inch..$7.99. Sometimes I'm a crank on the price-product thing...this is the reverse: def an incredible price-product match. Their other location in Vestal is close to my work hotels...but this was such a great location for my travel this time. Either one does the trick (and the fix!). read more

My partner and I stopped by Spiedie's for lunch. When we arrived, we saw two buildings that said The Spiedies & Rib Pit. One looked new and bougie and the other looks like an old mom-and-pop store. We initially thought the old looking one was the correct Spiedie's, but realized that it's closed and that they changed to the newer building. We both ordered 6-inch speciality spiedies. He got the Chipotle spiedie and I got the Spiedissimo. We also got a side of fries and a bottle of cherry coke. You order at the counter and then they serve the food to your table. We thought our spiedies would be like a baguette sandwich. But instead, we were surprised to see them wrapped in pita bread. We suspect this may be because only the 12-inch spiedies come in a baguette. Nevertheless, we still ate them! The chicken in the spiedie seems to be mostly made of chicken breast, so it was kind of dry. The onions and peppers in the Spiedissimo add great flavor and seasoning though. Driving through on our road trip to the Finger Lakes. Dropped by because I wanted something fast casual, tasty and a comfortable modern dining area. Spiedie hits all those points. We stopped by at 10.59am and within the next minute, more and more cars piled in and people were already waiting for the place to open. They do a great job drying stuff - favorite of the meal was the fried chicken sandwich which is reminiscent of a spicy Popeyes fried chicken sandwich but with slightly better ingredients. The Greek Spiedie was light and refreshing with fresh vegetables and moist cubes of chicken. There were a couple of dryer pieces so I guess it's luck of the draw. Blasting through town from California we had to get a spiedie fix as this one of my childhood memory foods for this region. We have eaten at Lupos before but when I saw the Greek variations on this menu I was like yes! That's the one we try this time. Food did not disappoint and we snagged 2 bottles of marinade to go.
