Small portions for the price tho. What really irritated me was seeing that I was charged 1.50 for a tiny condiment cup of ranch. Ketchup is free so why charge me for ranch when it doesn't cost much more to make or buy? Seems like a money grab. I also hate being charged to use a credit card. Feel like being nickeled and dimed. We really wanted to like this place but sadly it just wasn't great. First off the restaurant is really clean and organized. We felt comfortable at our table and it was a nice atmosphere. Everything started to slowly go downhill once we got our waitress. She seemed like she wasn't interested in taking our order or checking on us during our whole visit here. We ordered the chuckwagon which was beef, Swiss cheese, onion, garlic aoli on a toasted bun with au jus and the roadrunner which was a chicken sandwich with cheese, ranch, and pickles and lettuce which I had taken off. The chuckwagon was really dry and flavorless. The fries were just okay. The roadrunner was actually pretty good the chicken was just a little dry and overcooked on parts of the chicken and the fries were also just okay. Our waitress never came to see how our food was or ask if we wanted a refill on our drinks. When it came time to pay she was no where to be seen and it actually took a while for any of the staff to come around for us to ask someone if we could get our check. The prices here are a little high for the quality you get in my opinion. My brother RAVED about the filling station burgers for a long time. We used to visit this location when it was Lees and it was cool to see some of the Lees vibe still there. We took my parents for my mom's birthday. We got milkshakes which were good. Our burgers were just ok. My mom was eating her burger and pulled out a long hair from inside her burger. The waitress had her long hair pulled half back with a clip. Not sure it was hers but it was definitely someone from the kitchen as the hair was IN the burger. So disgusting. The Filling Station is always a solid, reliable choice when looking for a family-friendly meal in Bellingham. Their burgers are still just as delicious as ever, although their menu has been whittled down quite a bit since the pandemic. Gone is my favorite mushroom burger with a side of au jus - I swear I ordered one to go at least twice a week during the lockdown! But still, it's hard to go wrong here, especially if you grab a side of their famous "tire treads" fries. When I'm not in the mood for a burger, I like their salads a lot. They do have the option to add a protein to your salad - although it comes at quite a price. Recently I added salmon to a salad and it brought the price to over $20. Which, I guess, is my biggest beef with The Filling Station: I'd no longer characterize their prices as affordable in the least. Last year, we went here in a group for my son's birthday dinner, and it was over $200 for the group. It felt like a lot for burgers. I guess that's just how things are nowadays. Bonus for their awesome weekday happy hour, with discounted drinks and some good food options. We visit Bellingham, perhaps, once a month. We have our favorite places, but this was an unusual two day trip. I asked Perplexity.ai for the best restaurant with the best combination of Onion Rings and Burgers - it suggested The Filling Station on Meridian at Alabama. The AI got it right. The remodeled filling station provides perfect 50s ambiance for burgers. The place is impeccably. Service is friendly and precise (and allowed me to customize their already excellent rack burgers). My wife eats veg and had an excellent impossible burger, but was tempted by a house made falafel burger. I tried their chili - so good I took some home. And a burger. But the draw for me was the Onion Rings - best I can remember. We'll be back, over -and-over. I'm looking forward to trying their Hand-made Mocha Milkshake. read more

I recently got to check out the Filling Station off of Alabama and felt like it was a pretty average experience. We arrived on a Saturday about 30 minutes after opening and found that it was already pretty busy inside (I was surprised by the large indoor fireplace, but felt it was out of place with the other decor). Despite only having the hostess working, I was impressed with getting our order taken within 15 minutes. While waiting for about 30 minutes for a burger and BLT, I noticed the restaurant filling up and there wasn't a single table available by the time the food came. The burger was decent (the au jus seemed superfluous honestly and didn't add much to the flavor of the burger) and I ended up giving the au jus to my husband to rehydrate his BLT that was completely dried out. So, maybe it was an off day for the Filling Station, but I would say this place was mediocre at best. I will say though, this place seemed to be very kid friendly, so if that's what you're looking for, then check this place out. read more

For me what defines a great place to eat is service and quality of food, that being said, definitely the quality of foods in most restaurants have severely changed. Found this gem when I was searching "local restaurants". We are happy we found this place! Nothing fancy.. but declines burgers! I got the Jaguar with blue cheese and fig jam. Oh my!!! Soo good! You get a choice of their speciality fries or thinner cut fries. My husband got the Thunderbird. He said it was a basic burger (fixings wise) but yummy! We came here on a week night for a quick and easy dinner. We arrived around 5 and were surprised the parking lot was nearly full, things were hopping, but we still got seated and served quickly. Our server was extremely friendly and pleasant, so nice! We each ordered a burger, mine without a bun and wrapped in lettuce. It came with some sauteed mushrooms and cheese. These are 4 oz beef patties so not the biggest, but tasty. I meant to order bacon and had to after my food had arrived. I got 1.5 pieces that were very crunchy, not the way I prefer my bacon. I also had a starter salad that was well-prepared and arrived quickly, before my burger. We've been here several times and the food has been consistently good. They offer basic burgers and burgers with interesting flavour combinations for the more adventurous. Milkshakes are good and thick, and they also offer malts (unusual in this day). The fries are rather interesting in that they are oddly shaped, thick and well cooked (read: not greasy..ok they're fries...). The fries do appear to be made from mashed or reconstituted potatoes formed to the shape - not sure on this, haven't asked yet. I just eat them There is beer and wine and a full bar. Service is good, quick and friendly on our visits, both inside and from the take-away window. There are tables outside for those warm days.
