Road tripping and in the town of Templeton, CA. We passed by this two story barn looking building with signage... Templeton Donuts & Deli. They were open and we were feeling a bit peckish and can always make room for a donut or two. So we made a U turn and off we went. The shop is on a corner lot with its own parking lot. Plenty of street parking as well. As we walked in , I quickly saw the glass counter full of picture perfect, colorful donuts sitting pretty waiting for us. These donuts were beautiful. No crinkling and buckling in the frosting. Donut frosting is tricky to get smooth. So many different types of donuts making it hard to decide. We ordered a couple of cake donuts (vanilla with pink frosting and chocolate on chocolate) and a raised chocolate glaze. Mmm. The raised donut was light and airy with the prefect slight yeasty chew. The chocolate glaze was awesome. I've eaten a lot of donuts in my lifetime, these are 5 stars. Besides donuts they serve other pastries; scones, danishes, croissants, and cookies. Breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches $8.95. Quiche ( whole $29.95 or slice $6.95). Local Steins bagels $4 toasted with cream cheese. There is no seating indoors. There were a few tables out on the lawn.We sat at one of the outside tables under the big ole shade tree. Leisurely eating our donuts taking a slow down and soaking in life. read more

Donuts at dawn! Sunrise over distant fog. Fou-fou foodie donut shops open at 8 am. Real donut shops open at 5:30 am. This one's a real donut shop. Certainly not a chain. The locals came by to order: An old guy had an apple fritter. A couple kids biking to their first day at school had cinnamon bar and a Dr. Pepper, and a rainbow sprinkle and a Sprite. Another man had a dozen mixed. I had a chocolate peanut donut and a medium coffee for under 5 bucks. Templeton has a genuine small town feel: a sleepy Main Street (in another era Highway 101), a central park with a bandstand, quiet at night, and no streetlights. This shop is in a barn-like structure with 3 tables inside and some tables on the lawn outside, as opposed to a strip mall. (But there's a NRA sign on the lawn. Hmm. It is cowboy country.) A nice stop on the way home from a camping trip. read more

I always love a good, super local donut shop and this place is no exception. Their donuts are super fresh, the variety/selection of donuts is excellent, service is great and they even have a wonderful little grassy outdoor seating area with tables. We ordered the maple and chocolate old fashioned, the chocolate with cream, a sprinkle donut, and donut holes. They were all so fresh and yummy! Wonderful spot in Templeton. I am so utterly appalled at what I witnessed this morning that I turned around and drove to Trader Joe's to get my kids a treat. A father with two kids in tow asked the older guy behind the counter if there were any dairy-free options. The guy literally laughed at them and told them they had "WATER". Given the prevalence of dietary restrictions and preferences, such an inquiry is not out of line but the response absolutely was. How sad for a child to have to be exposed to that from an adult when looking forward to the possibility of a treat. Do better. read more

It's seems that all donut shops are saying they are open online but when driving all the way up there, closed. This was the third donut shop I went to because online it says open. People need to fix there online times so that we don't waste our time driving. read more

The food is made to order so it's hot and flavorful. The staff are friendly and quick to process orders. Coffee was great and hot as well. Just know that if you spending $5 or less they don't take debit or credit cards. The pasty was fresh and flaky with loads of fruit inside. read more

I came by late morning and picked up a couple of donuts and cookies. I tried finding this place about 4 years ago but Google gave me bad directions so I tried again this time with no issues. It is sort of out of the way when your traveling north or south on 101 but I say it's worth it now. Templeton is a nice little community and is worth just walking around and enjoy the view. The donut shop itself is a cool looking building. Customer service is great, I asked questions and recommendations and gave me straight answers. I had an old fashioned maple donut and later ate a peanut butter cookie. It's rare to eat a real good homemade cookie especially peanut butter. They had some great looking quiches but I wanted to make sure the donuts and cookies were good. So I'll be back for the quiche when I come through this area. read more

There are some gimmicky donut places out there--but if you want classic donut crunch and softness and texture and flavor, just pure unadulturated sugary high, then this is the place for you. We usually go with the classics here, maple bar, chocolate bar, or glazed. Plus, the quiche is so good that I used poor judgement and ate the whole thing before I could take the photo...hence the styrofoam container photo--sorry, folks! Everywhere my fiance and I go, we always try to find a donut shop! From artisan to mom and pop, we love them all. What actually stole the show though was a slice of the Spinach and Feta Quiche. It was creamy, but light. Melt in your mouth good. The donuts you could guess were also like little pillows of love. Get your classic donut fix her for sure. Super reasonably priced too. The donuts are delicious. Just what you want a great donut to taste like. Love the breakfast burritos,my picky son loves the crossiant breakfast sandwiches. However, for my husband and I even all that deliciousness is eclipsed by the quiches. Let me tell you, they are the best we have ever had, fluffy, hearty, flavorful. My favorite is the spinach, tomato and feta followed very closely by the ham and green chili. Do yourself a favor and try them all. These guys are willing to go the extra mile for their customers! I am from Utah and my son is currently living in California, about 15 minutes away from Templeton Donuts. I wanted to surprise my son with cinnamon rolls one Saturday morning to honor a family tradition. While there were three donut places closer to my son, none of them were willing to deliver. Templeton Donuts was the only place in the area that offered delivery. I called them and asked if they would be willing to do this delivery. It was farther away than they usually delivered, and it was already going to be a busy Saturday morning for them. But they did it for us anyway. My son received and greatly enjoyed the delicious cinnamon rolls. Any business that goes to these lengths to meet customers' needs is an impressive place indeed! THANK YOU TEMPLETON DONUTS!! Came in for a doughnut because I had some time to kill and of course what else you gonna do... But when I realized it was 12 noon and I saw their quiches I changed my mind. Their ham and green chili quiche was absolutely delicious and a very reasonable price. Large serving and not too much crust. Perfect! Some places charge eight or nine dollars for a slice of quiche which is a bit much I'd say. This was quite a bit under that.
