I can only speak to the atmosphere and the hot chicken sandwich, both of which are a 10/10. There is no food I order out more than chicken sandwiches, I have tried probably hundreds (including many of peoples national favorites, eg. Hattie B's). Back Yard BBQ has the best chicken sandwich I have ever had. I definitely didn't come here expecting anything close. In fact, if anything, I probably tried to downplay how good it was after my first time having it, because expectations just weren't that high (and honestly I don't want this kind of random place in Nantucket be THIS good at making hot chicken) but I have to be honest, it is the best I've ever had. Beer was excellent. They had Maine Dinner on draft. The pulled pork nachos were ok. They used a cheese sauce instead of melting cheese. It was a special so I assumed melted cheese but we got cheese sauce. Brisket was in an au jus which didn't really work for me. The wings had a dry rub but were decent. A chill and relaxed atmosphere which is not always the case here on ACK. I've been lucky enough to try some of the best places in Memphis (too many to mention) and further south into Jackson (Pig n Pint) and Hattiesburg (Leatha's) Mississippi. This isn't going to match that level, and I missed the more intense smoke flavor on the meat, but it's good BBQ for this part of the country and outstanding for a seasonal place on an island off of MA. I had the opportunity to go to Nantucket for the day and sought out a place to have lunch. One of the first places to pop up in Yelp was B-ACK Yard BBQ and as I haven't had barbecue in some time I thought we'd give it a try. We started off with some Smokehouse Dry Rub Chicken Wings. We don't like bleu cheese so we asked for some other dressing-like sauce for the wings and the very nice waiter said that was the only option, but he suggested one of the 4 barbecue sauces on the table. The first thing I noted when the wings arrived was that there was a very distinct aroma of cumin coming from the wings. I thought that the cumin would overpower everything else but I was pleasantly surprised that it did not. The wings were nicely spiced and very well prepared. And while I tried each of the 4 sauces I preferred the "sweet". For my lunch I chose the Pulled Heritage Pork Sandwich which came with slaw and a side. I chose the Mac and Cheese for my side dish. I returned to the sweet sauce for this sandwich as well. There was a large portion of very flavorful smoked pork on a delicious buttery grilled bun. The meat had a very "porky" flavor that was terrific. I didn't care too much for the slaw so I didn't put it on my sandwich which I would normally do. The Mac and Cheese was a decadent bowl of cheesy goodness, creamy and piping hot with crushed goldfish crackers sprinkled on top. Man, was that delicious! The plate also had a house pickle and a ring of pickled onion. The service here was quick and attentive. I really enjoyed lunching here and will be back for some more this summer. read more

YeeeeHaw!!! Nantucket? This place has collard greens that rival Texas/New Orleans! I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs and greens. If I had known this restaurant was in Nantucket I certainly would have eaten there before now! Yum!! Hubs (who by the way is from Texas) had the burnt ends. Although he was surprised they were pork and not beef brisket, he said they were yum! When we're back out there we will certainly be visiting the BYB again!! read more

As someone with a gluten allergy, I never know what to expect when a restaurant says they can accommodate me. bACKyard BBQ went above and beyond. 24 hours later I can tell you that I will eat here again. Not only did I not get "glutened" but everything we ate was also tasty! The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Multiple people made sure I got what I wanted, everything gluten free came out on a separate tray, and checked in to make sure everything was perfect. 10/10 for sure. Today first full day on the island from Boston and wanted a super outdoor space to have lunch and picked byb. The hostesses were pleasant and so so kind. Multiple people checked up on us and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything. We dined with two children today and they both devoured a grilled cheese and pulled pork it was incredible. I got the pulled work sammie and others had mushroom dish and the big something was outstanding. Absolutely delicious! We hesitated to eat at a bbq place while on the island. I am SO glad we did!! The Big Pig sandwich was amazing! Cooked perfectly, slightly sweet and super juicy and the cole slaw that came with it was spot on. Not too much Mayo or vinegar. My husband got the brisket sandwich and it was loaded up with meat! For sides we got the fries and corn bread. Both were super tasty! Make sure you ask for a little taster sample of all the bbq sauces!! Surprising find near harbor and quiet but pleasantly surprising great food. Had a quick lunch before heading to the airport. We were seated promptly and we then ordered a blackened salmon sandwich accompanied by coleslaw and roasted asparagus. The next entrée was the brisket sandwich accompanied by collard greens and coleslaw. The coleslaw was a hit for me as I love this refreshing dish, had a very nice acidity to it and was crisp and fresh. The asparagus was equally crispy and was lightly oiled but not overpoweringly so. The brisket was smoky and flavorful. There was an abundance of meat on the sandwich and it was very tasty but needed a little bit of the sauce to get some juice into the sandwich. Lots of great reviews on this, but I thought it was just average and a bit disappointed based on my high expectations from the other Yelp reviews. It was cooked fine, but the flavor wasn't there for me. The french fries were fantastic. The potato salad was different than I have seen before and I didn't care for it. I didn't think I would like this BBQ joint but I actually did! The food was good, the portions were large, interior was clean, and the service was top notch. My beef BBQ was a little dry but the sauces (three different BBQ sauces) helped moisten it a bit. My advice is to get the sandwich portions. They're slightly cheaper than the dinner sizes and probably provide just as much food. My belly was completely stuffed when I walked out the door. And my wallet wasn't "busted" like so many restaurants on Nantucket leave it at night. FYI there seemed to be a lot of locals in the place on the night I visited. I'm sorry but I don't get it. This was not great BBQ, the portions are big but the food was ehh. The best thing here are the rubbed wings. They are dry rub and you put your own sauce on the wings. I am not a mustard person and their best sauce is supposedly the mustard based sauce. The night we went it was mid July and the AC wasn't working. They told us after we sat down, ordered and complained. I was pissed and I let the manager know it. I told him at the very least he should give us a round of drinks to help cool us off. He wasn't having it and didn't even apologize for the AC. Not cool. He lost me as a customer for the food and the bar. read more
