Have now been there twice and both times it's been awesome! Such a nice option for a non chain meal especially in a small town. Both times we've started with the smoked salmon dip, which is huge and cheesy but tons of salmon, and served with tri color tortilla chips. The first time I had the Texas garlic sausage meal with mac and cheese and fries. Mom had the ribs with the potato salad and mac and cheese. We're big road trippers and big bbq samplers. I tend to be suspicious if bbq places directly off the interstate but my husband and teens wanted to give it a try. Boy am I glad they convinced me! Backroads BBQ off I65 in Lebanon, IN was terrific! From their delicious cheddar biscuits served with apple butter to their loaded chili to their bourbon baked beans and of course their delicious pulled pork served alongside their three house made bbq sauces (sweet, bourbon based and mustard based) every bite was a delight! Oh and I nearly forgot their crispy thin onion rings! Delish. Absolutely. If you're driving the Chicago/Indianapolis corridor and you dig bbq, you must make the stop! read more

First time eating here I had breaded tenderloin it was huge. The breading has a really good flavor. Side of a white cheddar Mac cheese very tasty. Excellent! All the sides and the pulled pork are delicious! We tried their mac n cheese, green beans & fried potatos as sides. Very good choices, we both loved the fried potatoes. For a recent restaraunt that just opened, I think they deserve a second location. Very good service and the waiters are nice and friendly. Good seating, and it feels like you're in a old-time cafe or saloon. The Mac n' Cheese I would take a bullet for that it's so good. 11/10 would recommend. read more

We decided to give this place a try, and so glad we did! Everything from the quick seating to our attentive server, to the food we had was top notch! Both the melt in your mouth pulled pork to the tenderest brisket were delicious. Our sides fries, corn pudding, and baked beans were full of flavor. First time guest.... not impressed, placed phone order for pickup obviously because of COVID... was told 15 minutes, showed up and 40 minutes later I got my food, there were about 6 tickets hanging up, doesn't seem like much since they don't have to manage the dining room... I finally got my food. Pulled pork tasted like it was cooked in an oven, and was dry. The sausage looked boiled, and couldn't taste any smoke at all. came here after seeing so many positive reviews and was not impressed in the least. the servers were nice, but the food was mediocre at best. would not recommend the smoke house salad at all, got it with the salmon and it was too fishy and the color was odd. the salad itself was bland. friend got the pork nachos. i had one bite but it was salty as hell. not even interested in trying anything else from the rest of the menu. just super disappointed read more

The food good was good. We arrived at 20 after noon. It was busy. It took awhile to be seated because they were short staffed. One of the workers tried to sit us at a tall table (bar stools) table when we have 2 kids and my grandmother (86 years old). There was a short table next to this tall table. We asked to be seated at the shorter one. We arrived before several groups. We were the last of these groups to get our food. The waitress was very kind and apologetic. However, from the time we arrived to the time we got our check, it was 2 hours or more. Of the two hours, 20 minutes was waiting to be seated and 20 minutes was actually eating. It took an hour or more to get our food, even though all the other parties had their food and already left. We understood the wait to be seated. We were upset that it took over an hour to get our food when every other table had gotten their food. We expressed our displeasure with the food wait to the waitress and asked to be compensated with a discount. The waitress came back, but management said that they could only give dessert. They had a couple of pie options and brownies. Plus we had a diabetic in our group, so this option was not the best. At this point we wanted to talk to the manager. The manager didn't come out until we got our checks. It felt like she was avoiding coming over. When we finally got our food, the waitress said that it took a long time because we got 'dark meat' chicken and they had to cook all new chicken. That take 18 more minutes. That is fine, but that doesn't explain the hour wait for food. Also does that mean they don't cook the fried chicken and tenders fresh? Finally the checks came and we once again we asked to speak to the manager. Despite the long wait, we were not disrespectful to anyone. We didn't tell, nothing of that manner. The manager gave the same excuses about the chicken, (apparently all other customers served before us got pulled pork), they were short staffed, etc. I tried to say something, but I was cut off and the manager said that she would only speak to my mother because she was paying. That was absolutely not true. My bill for my family was more expensive than the other two bills at our table. Then the manager proceeded to insinuate that we were unforgiving of the situation and petty because we asked for a discount. She didn't say this but her words and attitude towards us definitely suggested this. She also told my mom that she shouldn't get this upset over food. It never registered that we were upset by the 1 hour plus wait and the treatment from management. After about a 10 minute, one-sided conversation, we said to just give us the bill. We didn't get the discount and no apologies from the management. We may of gotten an apology wrapped with excuses. The food was good, waitress was very nice and pleasant, the management (possibly owner) was downright disrespectful. I am a small business owner myself and I understand that you can't please everyone. However, this manager needs some education on how to treat your customers especially first timers. This was our first time going to this restaurant and it will be our last. From one business owner to another, reading 'Hug your Haters' would go a long way to helping improve customer service. read more

the good, the bad, and the disappointing? i've been here three times because i really want them to succeed. lebanon needs some choices for casual dining. what's awesome? the nachos. hands down the best restaurant nachos i've ever had. probably should buy them in case other choices disappoint...like the ribs. i ordered a whole rack, and while the menu does not say they are grilled, who would not make that assumption since you are at backroads BBQ??? NO! they are oven baked with a dry rub. they were very tender, flavor was ok, but really, couldn't they be thrown on a grill for a few? some stripe marks and a burned edge? i'm fixating i know, but i felt vaguely cheated. other good things? biscuits are great (butter would be a nice option). catfish was very good. brisket sandwich overpowered by the bun, once i removed half of it i was good to go. overall a good place. price point is steep for the area, i'd suggest a couple of low-budget sandwich options just in case. read more
