First time visiting from out of town with family, we called ahead of time and they were able to accommodate a group of 17-18 people. Arriving - wait staff was super welcoming overall good vibes. Drinks came out fairly quickly and the two waiters we had were on top of everything. Kid meals came out first as requested while we waited to order the adult meals. I ordered the two meat plate with pulled pork and pulled chicken plus a side of 1/2 rack of ribs. All was delicious!! Booths were very roomy but the springs in the seats need an overhaul. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful. One ordered the Cowboy pulled pork served with macaroni and cheese. The sandwich was excellent as was the macaroni and cheese. Eight sauces were brought to the table so that we could choose. All were good. One ordered grilled pork loin, which was a little tough without a lot of flavor. This casual restaurant is famous for its various pulled meats & 6 types of BBQ sauce...but they have, hands down, the BEST french fries on earth (called Dippers) Dippers are a mix between french fries and chips with a perfect amount of salt and cheese sauce (if you are into that) The pulled pork and pulled chicken were the best meats. Brisket was darn good also...we did not try the turkey. Favorite sauces were the sweet BBQ, Mustard BBQ and Chipolte. We tried all of them on our napkin first but you really should wait to sample with the meats as the taste is so different. We were too stuffed for desert but they offeted sugar pie, chocolate key lime pie or bread pudding. One thing about service. We showed up 15 mins before closing. We knew their hours and put in our order, ate and were out of there a few minutes after closing. Barbecue in Lebanon !!!! On a recent trip to the Lebanon area, I found myself craving Barbecue. I was staying at the Hampton Inn and was looking for a place to eat close to the hotel. I took out my trusty iPhone and started looking for local hotspots. Low and behold I found Parky's Smokehouse and decided on going there. Parky's Smokehouse is a family-owned and locally-operated destination for authentic barbecue, signature steaks, Baby Back Ribs, Pulled Pork and Chicken, Sliced Brisket, Smoked & Grilled Prime Rib, Burgers, hand-breaded Tenderloins, and Stuffed Quesadillas. With an expansive menu of house-made sauces, rubs, dressings, sides, and desserts. I got there around 4:30 just before the dinner rush. I talked to my server for a few minutes about what I should get and what Parky's is known for and we decided on the Barbecue Blast which came with a half rack of baby ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, sliced beef brisket, and turkey breast. I also chose some house-made 'slaw and their baked beans. At first, I thought to myself "how am I going to eat all this?" when my plate dropped on the table. Please note that Parky's doesn't play around when it comes to food. The portions are huge but if you love barbecue then you should be used to massive plates of meat. I enjoyed every single meat that I tried, all were nicely rubbed, smoked and/or spiced, and I was able to try all six of Parky's Home-Made sauces. I even picked up some t-shirts and sauce on my way out. I have to say, I somehow managed to wolf down all of that Barbecue. Everything on my plate from the fall-off-the-bone tender ribs to the smoked turkey was a hit. The meal, the choices and the sauces were all amazing. Went with tacos (4) on Tuesday. Why not? Familiar with their 3-meat plate so I broke with tradition to have pork and chicken tacos with several of their barbecue sauces. After a very busy week, I woke up this morning and realized I hadn't eaten at all yesterday. You know you're busy when you forget to eat! On my way home with my stomach screaming for food, I spotted Parky's and entered about 1:30. I didn't realize they are only open until 2:00, so I quickly ordered the two meat plate. Brisket and pulled pork. They were both delicious! Cooked perfectly. The meat was a little bland, but that's what the BBQ sauce is for, right? I tried the spicy and spicy chipotle, but my favorite is the mustard. The nice server was surprised I liked it-she said it's her favorite but it's not too popular. I love the tangy taste! The sides I got were Mac and cheese and the potato dippers with beer cheese. Both outstanding choices. I didn't know what to expect from the potatoes, but they were SO GOOD! I highly recommend! I have no idea why this place claims to be a "Smoke House". It was one of my worst bbq meals ever. I got the 3 meat combo $35. Ribs, brisket and chicken. Everything was over cooked and dried out. And you would think paying $35 for a plate it would include bread? NOPE! That's an additional $2. Nothing had the flavor of smoke. The only way to get flavor on anything was to add a sauce. The Mac and cheese noodles were over cooked and tough and the flavor was just melted cheap cheese and milk. No spices or nothing for flavor. I really wanted to like Parky's but I couldn't quite get there. First of all, lets be clear, this is a family friendly steakhouse. You should not try and compare it to St Elmos in downtown Indy. Thats not what it is or tries to be. And that's fine. But even comparing it to an Outback Steakhouse it just comes up a little short. I ordered a wedge salad for starters which was simply iceberg lettuce with Blue cheese dressing a crumbles. Where's the bacon and tomatoes? That's pretty standard for a wedge salad. For the entree I got a basic flat iron steak and half rack of ribs., The steak was cooked the way I asked albeit without much seasoning....and the baked potato was A-OK. The ribs came with some sort of rub that was mild to the point of being almost tasteless. I didn't hate anything - but didn't really like much either. The baked potato was probably the star of the meal and thats not a compliment. Service was friendly and prompt. But the food is simply mediocre. Sorry, Parky's! We went this past Saturday and were surprised to get the worst brisket we've ever had. The meat was gray, looked like it had been boiled, had zero bark, and was rubbery and tough. We sampled just enough to confirm that it tasted as bad as it looked and sent it back. Our server Madison was great, apologized profusely, and brought out the manager. We ended up getting some pulled pork and it was fine (though a bit fatty) and the manager was good about giving a meal discount. Might as well add that the macaroni and cheese was mediocre at best. I always prefer to support local businesses, but I have sadly had very disappointing meals at Parky's. When I went with a friend to have dinner last week, we arrived a little after 6:00 and they were already out of the favorite side dish, Butter Browns. What restaurant doesn't plan to have plenty of a frequently ordered side dish to fulfill an order at 6:00? Then, we both ordered pulled pork sandwiches. The pulled pork wasn't really pulled; it was chunks of over-cooked pork and was so dry that my friend & I kept adding bbq sauce to be able to eat our sandwiches. We were very unsatisfied. This is my fourth time to eat at Parky's. I've tried to give them a chance to show me they are capable of meeting their current 4.5 star rating, but I probably won't be back. The fried mushrooms (see photo) are particularly delicious. Good desserts, too. The brisket is pulled, not sliced. (Sliced is by far the more common preparation for brisket). Pulled brisket makes for a very meaty bite, but it is considerably less tender than sliced brisket, so it could pose difficulties for the dentally challenged. If that describes you, choose the pulled pork or chicken instead. Friendly, knowledgeable, attentive service. Wow...what happened?! We went to Parky's for a solid BBQ lunch. We have been there before...and it has always been good.....until today.... 1) It was dead in the place...maybe 5 or 6 tables were occupied. After 5 minutes of waiting, a voice came over a speaker in a kind voice saying "we will be with you soon"...ok...no biggie....but still odd.... 2) It was almost like it was an inconvenience to (some of) the staff to be seated. My wife and I actually became uncomfortable as we saw the staff confused and (seemingly) irritated to find a place for us to sit. OK...maybe (in an 80% EMPTY restaurant) the staff was having a bad day...it happens.. 3) I immediately order some of their INCREDIBLE mini baguettes...they were (as always) PHENOMENAL! 4) Most of my party were ok with what they got. Good! This is PARKY'S! My family and I have been coming here for 10 years. Then came..... 5) My Brisket and P-pork platter. I was SUPER happy to see that Parky's slices their brisket now, as I was not a huge fan of the "pulled" brisket in the past (although the favor was good)! I ordered it and the PP...and what I got...was TERRIBLE **NOTE- I would NEVER, EVER write anything like this for a Mom-and-Pop business unless it really needed to be said.** The brisket was some of the TOUGHEST I have ever tried to chew. I spit it into my napkin, and went to the always trusted PP. The pork was....not right. It had very little of the smoky flavor I have always trusted from Parky's...and it was OFF....something was not right.....I was also served large portions of quivering fat...not a fan. 6) I got a side of tater dippers (pretty good, but there was an upcharge for it, which was fine...at this point ***MORE ON THIS LATER***), and baked beans (COLD, BURNT...WTH?!?!). I was a little shocked at this point.... 7) Our server came by...and I (embarrassed) told her what I just described.....she was.....not super happy about what I said....which just added to my discomfort....she asked if I wanted anything else...I said no thanks, as everything else was fine (I ended up eating the rest of my daughter's grilled cheese...it was good). 8) Our server drops off the check....with my STILL meal on it....*SIGH*...I had to call her back and point it out to her (my skin was CRAWLING at this time, I don't like to send stuff back)...she said something to the effect of "Oh, I told her to take it off and she didn't".....I was polite and said no problem...... Mind you, I was very frustrated at this point....I am still a little hungry....and extremely disappointed in what this place has become... ...on to the kicker.... 9) Our server comes back with the corrected bill....and the upcharge for the potato whatevers WAS STILL ON THE CHECK...I looked at the check...again...and our server was explained that she took off the meal, except for the side...which was an upcharge. Wow.....we are talking like $2...for something I didn't even finish....one would think that that they would have just wiped off the 85% UNEATEN meal from our already $50 ticket...but I guess not. 10) The server came back with the check.....and no card. After waiting 5 minutes...and seeing that she was having a conversation with another server...I asked her to return my card. She said that she returned it to the table....then looked back at the bar register...and saw it dangling from the pay slot. Some of our favorite foods include the mac and cheese, barbecue meats, potato crisps and curly onions. We always enjoy great service and delicious food. As an avid consumer of red meat, I'm always on the hunt for my next great steak experience. Unfortunately, Parky's doesn't deliver this. My boyfriend found this place and thought we'd give it a try because it's often touted as a destination restaurant for the quality of its food. I take a brief look at their menu online and start to get pretty excited about the bevy of meat treats that await me just thirty minutes north! We arrived around 7:30 on a Friday evening, and anyone that dines out frequently (or ever, really) knows that this is prime time rush hour for restaurants. I expected that we'd have at least a 45-minute wait. But when we pulled into the parking lot, we were one of only about ten cars. Not a very good sign. (I will give them the benefit of the doubt here, as we'd happened upon a "Back to the 50s" festival downtown just ten minutes earlier.) We were seated promptly, and our waitress was quick to take our drink and appetizer orders. They do have a good beer selection, which pleased the boy. While we waited on our "kiss-me-not" mushrooms (stuffed mushrooms covered in provolone cheese, which were actually quite good), the waitress took our dinner order. The boy ordered the pulled pork platter with a side of chili and barbecued beans. Per the waitress's recommendation, I ordered the ribeye steak with garlic butter, which she claimed was amazing. My sides included a salad and steamed broccoli. Our waitress declared she would be back momentarily with fresh bread, which never arrived at our table. I have a wheat allergy, so obviously this is a non-issue for me, and the boy just didn't care enough to ask about it. But I'm not a fan of emtpy, carb-laden promises. My salad was decent and the boy enjoyed his chili, although it seemed to be comprised solely of beans (vegetarian chili, maybe?). Not too long after, our entrees arrived. When I read "garlic butter" - I was thinking just that: a spreadable herb butter infused with garlic; I was not expecting a steak with a massive pile of minced garlic from a jar on top of it. This much garlic was going to seep from my pores (and I love garlic!) The boy finished his plate of pulled pork, though we both found it to be on the dry side; saucing was mandatory. But he thought the barbecued beans were fantastic. My steak ended up being a very uneven cut, somehow thicker around the edges and maybe only 1/2" thick in the middle. This, of course, made for a really uneven temperature: rare around the outside (yay!) and medium well in the middle (why!?). The boy had to flag a random employee down twice to get some BBQ sauce for the aforementioned dry pork. Our waitress never appeared between the arrival of our food and clearing our table/bringing the check, when she finally asked if she could refill my empty soda for me. A bit late, aren't we? Not surprisingly, from start to finish my level of excitement for the meal quickly dropped to almost zero. My whole experience to Parky's was really overwhelmingly "meh". When you think "smokehouse" moist, flavorful, smokey meats probably come to mind. If you're like me, your mouth might water a bit at the thought. Sadly, Porky's didn't quite hit that mark. I ordered the Smoked Bobby Q sandwich (pulled pork, melted cheese, their signature bbq chili, sour cream, and chopped green onion) with a side of house bbq chips. The menu said this would be a sandwich you would need a fork for, so I was expecting a deliciously sloppy sandwich. Not the case. I probably could have picked this up to eat it, but instead I removed the top bun since it was a bit too dense. The meat did not have that smokey flavor I was hoping for, but it was moist. I did think their two bbq sauces they had on the table were both very tasty! I just wish they would have used a different bun and doubled the amount of chili they put on top to make it fit the description better. Overall this sandwich was just decent. The house bbq chips were excellent, though! I also ordered the award winning cream pie for dessert. Being from Indiana, my mom makes cream pie for every occasion. During my wheelchair tour across Northern Indiana, I had the opportunity to stop in at Parky's Smokehouse in Lebanon, Indiana with a member of my road crew. Owned locally by the Parks family in Lebanon, Parky's Smokehouse was named a destination diner by Indianapolis Monthly and has won a slew of awards within Boone County. As you'll note here on Yelp, the reviews for Parky's tend to be very hit-or-miss. I attribute this mostly to the rather particular tastes of barbecue and meat fans rather than an accurate reflection of the restaurant itself. Am I saying that the naysayers are wrong? Nope, not really. Bad experiences definitely happen and I've yet to find a restaurant that is 100% consistently perfect. I am, however, saying that sometimes our personal opinion gets in the way of an actual critical evaluation of a restaurant's food, service, and overall quality. Parky's is at its very core a barbecue joint, but they also offer a variety of meat and pork related products including burgers, pulled pork, steak, ribs, and other items. As I was dining with someone who requires a gluten free diet, I was particularly concerned about available options and was impressed that the server answered the questions she was able to answer and obtained the answer when she didn't know it directly. This is quality customer service and it won't be forgotten. For those who would mention the dryness of their meats, it's important to realize that Parky's stresses individual choice and offers a variety of sauces available according to a person's taste. As I observed, at least a couple of these sauces start off on your table and others are available. This might be undesirable for those who want the convenience of simply picking up their food and eating it, but it's actually a joy for the more discerning foodie. As I was on the road in the midst of an athletic endeavor, I kept it relatively simple with a pulled pork sandwich and chips along with my usual iced tea. Everything was delivered as ordered and as described. The pulled pork was tender and warm and tasty. I actually went without sauces because, quite honestly, I enjoyed the sandwich that much. If I visit again, and I would definitely drive out for another visit, I'll likely experiment with sauces. The meal was reasonably priced but, as one should expect, definitely above fast food pricing and more in line with casual dining. The service was rock solid throughout the meal and consistent with standards the owner noted in response to a previous Yelp review. Everything was done in a timely manner and the server was attentive without being intrusive. As I've made it well known that a lack of refill is a personal pet peeve, I was pleased to not have to deal with that here. My meal companion seemed happy with her meal and no later concerns would indicate that the server's information regarding gluten free items was accurate. Parky's serves Indiana beer and wines, offers fundraising options, and sure seems to seek being a positive member of the local community. The decor was warm, inviting, and fun. I didn't try out the restrooms in terms of wheelchair access, but I can note that I had no problems getting around the restaurant. Given the fun nature of some of the Parky's decor, I will admit that I expected service to be just a tad more energized and, well, sparky, but I was treated well and I was delivered good food at a fair price.
