My husband and I were walking Zionville's Main Street on a Saturday for their Farmers market. We walked by Auberge and reminisced about our delicious breakfast there. I paused to look at their outdoor menu they had set up and checked out their desserts. Lo and behold they had chocolate mousse, my husband's fave! Since it also happened to be his birthday, we made a plan to come back after our dinner reservation at another restaurant. We stuck to that plan at around 8 PM, before they're closing at 9 PM. We walked in to a charming, lovely and cozy atmosphere. It had just rained so the ambience was perfect. We sat down right away and was greeted by Justin, who was outstanding as our server. My husband ordered the chocolate mousse, and I took a chance on the Pavlova, which I had seen many times before on the great British bake off. I had always wanted to try it. We also ordered decaf French press, coffee, and it was also delicious. The desserts both came with Chantilly cream made in house and it was impeccable. We. We both loved our desserts. The Pavlova was a light meringue with lemon curd inside garnished with fresh berries. I was worried that it would be sweet too sweet, but it was not. The chocolate mousse was thick and chocolatey and the ratio of Chantilly cream was perfect. Now that we've come here for breakfast and dessert, we must come back for dinner. Tucked into The Village on the bricks in Zionsville sits an exquisite lil French Bistro and Inn Called Auberge. "Auberge" translates to inn, hostel, or tavern in English. That's the perfect description for this gem. The wait staff are excellent and the bar does not disappoint! Happy hour runs 3-6pm and I stopped in for a drink and a bite. The rotating cocktail menu featured a "Gin on the Barb." Local gin mixed with a rhubarb liqueur and mint was a tasty yet dangerous beverage for an 83 degree day. If you have a chance to try the Oeufs Mimosa (deviled eggs) do not miss the opportunity though the charcuterie is an experience as well. For dinner I suggest trying the beef bourguignon. First off the ambiance is so French, and the downtown has such a small old town vibe with a lot of charm. Our food coffee and service was exceptional and the vibe and class of customers coming in was top notch. My eggs were done just right and I liked the hollandaise sauce which was perfect. This review is solely based off of service, ambiance, and happy hour! Stopped in here after finishing up work early and seeing the sign up for happy hour. It was a perfect sunny day so I grabbed a seat on the patio. My server was friendly and prompt even though she had a brace on her leg. She made sure I had everything I needed! Next up, $6 spritzes - how could they not get 5 stars! That's a steal! I ended up getting two, an aperol spritz and a limoncello spritz. Tasty and a nice way to enjoy a good afternoon. We went early, 4:30 pm, for dinner, ordered wine and sat outside on their charming patio until 5 when dinner service begins. There are only small plates between lunch and dinner. (Warning, the patio chairs aren't the most comfortable for old bones.) It doesn't hurt that it's a 73 degree day in March. Their wine list is smallish but very nice. For dinner RRR ordered the Coquilles St.Jacques, I ordered the orange duck. There are so many tempting dishes on the menu! The duck is served with grilled endive and pureed celeriac, so delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food here. I enjoy a good eggs Benedict and this cute little bistro did a good job. The eggs were perfectly cooked and runny. The hollandaise had a nice lemon flavour to it. My only complaint were the herbs not being fresh (it felt wilted) but it could be from the heat. The fries were crispy, however, it was a bit salty but the truffle aioli was good. The mule was great too, the pumpkin flavour was nice and I enjoyed it a lot. The service was quick and food came out not too long after I ordered. The inside is nice and cozy. The table was a little too high so it's a bit hard for me to reach my plate. After several years of avoiding this place because of an experience that combined surly service with mediocre cuisine, we decided to try Auberge again after friends told us it had undergone a resurgence. They were not wrong. We had excellent service throughout the evening and every course we ordered was delicious. We started by sharing the foie gras. It was prepared in a way that reminded us of Toulouse, the home of foie gras. Perfectly prepared, we were both disappointed that we shared. We followed that with salade frisée with peaches and goat cheese. Again, it was not overly dressed with the peach vinaigrette and the chèvre was a great add. Candied hazelnuts rounded out the dish. My mains was seared scallops and that, again, were perfectly seared and delicious. My spouse ordered the leek tart with raclette. It, too, was outstanding. What a fall from grace this has been. Auberge used to be pretty good. The food and service has gone down downhill tremendously. We waited 15 minutes to order our drinks. We ordered kir royale. Server only brought one down and I had to go and get her. The drink was made with raspberry syrup. We ordered their breakfast and eggs Benedict. Breakfast had no salt, small piece of ham, and a stale baguette. Eggs Benedict were broken, and the sauce had no lemon. Server nowhere to be seen. It's such a shame because the place is beautiful. My husband and I have frequented Auberge over the years and at times they have struggled to keep a good chef. We went two weeks ago and the food was almost inedible. I have never been so disappointed. We ordered grilled Artichoke and we honestly couldn't chew it. It was like shoe leather. It was cut in half and grilled but had no grilled flavor and the meat inside was gone. Next we ordered grilled prawns and it tasted like they had gone bad. They had a very fishy flavor and were quite mushy. What came next was the entree, Pan Seared Scallops. This dish was good...not great, but good. I'm guessing they have a new chef or perhaps the chef was off that night but the entire meal was extremely disappointing. The atmosphere is always great and the service usually solid. First of all- service was great. The restaurant itself was quiet and comfortable. Those were the high points. I ordered the salad nicoise as did my daughter based upon my recommendation. I recommended it as I have had the salad nicoise there several times and had thought it outstanding. The vinaigrette on the greens was very good. However the rest of the salad was disappointing. This time there were only three small pieces of tuna and a few green beans. The tuna was fry and overcooked. We came early in the morning, and there were just us and one other person. The server was very friendly and got us seated right away. The restaurant is located in the heart of Zionsville, and is very cozy inside. We ordered some crepes and a quiche of the day with sausage and rosemary. The food didn't take very long. The buckwheat crepe was great - decent portion size, yummy. A few bites into the quiche, I realized that they brought out the vegetarian quiche and not the one with meat. It tasted good, but wasn't what I ordered. The banana strawberry crepe was also good, but had a piece of hair on the plate. Lastly, the booth seats were very uncomfortable. They're sloped down, so you're slowly sliding down as you're eating - think of a slow-motion ejection seat. Hubby wanted to surprise me for Valentine's Day by taking me to a French restaurant in town, so I was excited to try it! We actually went the day after Valentine's and the restaurant was pretty full. The restaurant was simple reminiscent of an 80's style library. Lots wood finishes. We had reservations and were seated right away. There seemed to be quite a lot of staff for the evening, albeit a very young staff. Some looked and acted like high schoolers. We were greeted with menus. Mine had no prices on it. I assumed my husband's did. The next person who greeted us was the chef and she waited on us the remainder of the time. Which was surprising--like we're they under staffed? We put in our wine request as we glanced over the menu. We were very, very disappointed that what we were wanting to try wasn't even on the menu. The oeuf mimosa also called oeuf mayo. When we inquired, the executive chef, also our server, told us we couldn't get it since they had a Valentines menu. And then found out their mayonnaise wasn't even homemade! It's a French restaurant, for Pete's sake! Apparently, it was a Prix fixe menu--unbeknownst to us. We didn't see this on the website. And when we asked the chef about it, she said it was mentioned throughout social media. Had we known this, we would have chosen elsewhere to go. There were no prices anywhere to be seen except for the wine list. There are so many things that went wrong here. The food number one. I had the crab appetizer--a tiny soft shell crab, deep fried with gremolata. The crab tasted a little fishy for me. Really nothing special. I didn't crave for more. Then I chose the salad. The dressing was very vinegar forward. It had chunks of ham and Gruyere and Cornichons. It was so tangy I couldn't finish it. And the gruyere tasted more like Swiss cheese. My entree was the Blanquette de veau--veal with vegetables and sauce. The chunks of veal were difficult to cut, even with a sharp knife! One baby carrot and one larger one that was not done--couldn't be cut at all. The sauce was ok. My husband enjoyed his appetizer of duck liver pate. That was about it. What did I enjoy? The water service was spot on! And my dessert of floating island--Île Flottante was edible but didn't wow me in the least. The chef was very polite and attentive and we really liked her! Which pains me to write this. Point is, we don't want to spend $270 on poor quality food and be served by kids who really lacked the skills of fine dining with fine dining prices. We took home our inedible dishes simply because it was expensive. But it was the first time I took a doggie bag with food I wasn't even anxious to enjoy later. They regularly change their menu, and let me tell you..... their new menu as of June 2025 is the best in the city. I was embarrassed to take photos of my meal but I felt the need to for this review so others will go. I forgot to photo our appetizers (beef tartar and Salmon salad) and our desert (crème brûlée). Incredible, perfect, quiet....describes fabulous dinner at Auberge. The restaurant is in the little historic inn in downtown Zionsville. We had made reservations weeks in advance and were excited to return to one of our favorite French restaurants. We sat close to the bar because I forgot to request a window table. Our server was polite, attentive and friendly. We ordered a full bodied red wine that I cannot remember the name. The atmosphere is fancy casual and you feel like your someplace special in this small dining room. First, let me tell you about the apps. The French Onion soup is served in a miniature terrain with slightly sweet and tangy caramelized onions and filled with chewy croutons and a thick tasty cheese. The soup is delicious. The cod goujonnettes were a highlight of our apps. The were crispy batters fingers of the best, freshest cod that you can imagine. The goujonnettes are served with a tasty remoulade dipping sauce. I'm still dreaming about the cod after two days. We had the Bavette steaks with frites for main course. The steaks are cooked rare and served with a wonderful herbed butter. The frites are crispy and hot, just like I like. The desserts left us breathless. The palova is artfully prepared and a must try. It was a delicious crunchy and creamy blend of a merengue and cream topped with fresh berries and a lemon sauce on the side. The palova is sharable. We also had the chocolate mousse which is creamy, sweet and nutty blend of flavors. There is a small amount of private parking behind the Inn. In the summer, there is outdoor dining available. The building is ADA accessible but there may be some challenging corners. Auberge is a perfect spot for a special meal. I'll be back. read more

We visited Auberge for our 1 year wedding anniversary. I made reservations pretty far in advance and made them specifically for their patio because I had walked by it many times and thought it was super cute. Unfortunately, when we arrived the person at the host stand was not very friendly and they said there was no space on the patio and we would have a 30 minute wait or they could sit us inside. This was pretty frustrating because I made reservation far in advance for a specific celebration. For a restaurant of this caliber, I would've expected them to plan better and save tables for people with reservations. We decided to sit inside because we were hungry. It took us about 15 minutes to be brought water. Service was really slow. Luckily, our server was really great, very friendly and made it a memorable experience. He was very knowledgeable about it the menu. We started off with the charcuterie board to share. It was pretty good! A great variety to try. Then we each did a 2 course meal. I started off with the Salad Lyonnaise which was really delicious. My husband got the French onion soup which was also very good. Our main courses were the duck and the sirloin. Both were delicious and very flavorful. Our server told us that the chef sources many of the menu items locally and tries to work with what is in season, which I love! Visited Auberge for a Valentine's Day dinner. We were practically the only people in the restaurant. We did go a bit early, so it started to fill up as we left. The waiters are all new but happy to answer any questions, and pass questions onto the bartender and chef if they don't know how to respond. The food was tasty! We both got the four course dinner menu and were happy with our choices. We tried almost everything on the menu! Cocktails were good and I was pleasantly surprised they had mocktails. I'm sensitive to salt and noticed there was a lot on my husband's boeuf a la bourguignonn but still very tasty. The look of the restaurant is very cool. It's in a hotel/inn and there are very cool things to look at. I want to head back here in the summer for some patio sitting. read more

I really wanted to like this place. My wife and I went for an early Valentine's Day dinner. The vibe inside was pretty good, and the devilled eggs and beet salad we ordered for starters were killer, so we were off to a good start. But it went downhill from there. I ordered the cassoulet and my wife got the filet. Both dishes lacked even the tiniest hint of salt (as did the escargot we also got as an app). The cassoulet was just not very good, but was not helped by the fact that it was not cooked all the way. It was cold in the middle and the breadcrumb layer on top was wet instead of crisp, although it looked like there had been an attempt to quickly finish it with a torch. It seemed that the kitchen hurried that dish because they had finished the steak dish too soon, since everything on my wife's plate was cold. We were disappointed, but ordered dessert anyway. We got the chocolate mousse, which I was excited about. It had a good flavor, but a very chalky texture. As soon as it came to the table, I could see that it looked strange and that was confirmed when I tasted it. I'm not sure if it had split and been sieved or what, but it was not the texture one looks for in a mousse. On top of all that, the service wasn't great. What a great little gem for a unique 'petit dejeuner'. I was tempted by the 'Quiche of the day' but, instead, selected the gravlox. I was blown away by this French version of the national food of both Sweden & Norway. 3 strips of tender brined salmon (not smoked like lox) surrounding a mini stack of toothsome dilled potato salad - all atop a delicious horseradish cream sauce. I loved this place! Their patio is beautiful, and I can't believe it took us 5 years of living near Zionsville to make it here! The chef came out immediately and talked to us which made us feel really special. He gave us some good recommendations. The bread is probably in my top 5 favorite pieces of bread I've eaten in my life. There is a lavender type flavor in it. So good! We started with the charcuterie board which was delicious and large. I had the steak frites which were good, but probably my least favorites part of the meal. The steak was hard to chew. It was very flavorful though and I loved the fries. I grew up here in Zionsville in the 1980/90's , so coming back to eat here is often an enjoyable homecoming. We came here in a beautiful day to eat street side on the patio. With 3 doors to the building, ourselves, and every guest we watched, went to the wrong door. Maybe marking a path to the correct door may help future guests. We placed our orders and waited over 30 minutes to receive a very salad and a croque mosieur. As we only saw 3 other tables seated, we were not sure as to the holdup with our meal. The beet salad was perfect in flavor, texture, and colours. Sadly the croque Monsieur was with a crisp toast and very dry. There was a beat a scant amount of sauce inside the sandwich, as opposed the more traditional richly soaked traditional versions. The service was kind enough to bring out a considerable portion of extra sauce upon our request. I don't love leaving bad reviews because I understand restaurants can have bad days but given the pricing and how awful the experience was, I felt it was necessary. My partner and I had a reservation for Valentine's Day and as soon as we walked in, we knew we were in for trouble. We waited an additional 20 minutes after coming in for our reservation to be sat. Clearly the employees looked overwhelmed so we didn't mind the wait. The table setup was cute and the champagne was delicious. Once we were sat, it took over 20 minutes to get our appetizer. When we get our apps, my crab was grey and my partner's coquille tasted terrible. We both took a few bites and were done. We reminded the server of the wine we ordered hoping to focus on that and were immediately disappointed with the quality. Their Italian Pinot Grigio was some Americanized wine that was $10/bottle (they charged $40). Another 30 minutes go by until we get our lobster bisque. Every bite was crunchy due to, I assume, pieces of shell or something and the lobster tasted very chewy. We both took a few bites and were done. We are about 90 minutes into being there, we are starving, and our entrees come out. My sea bass was so dry and flavorless, and it was clear it was somehow sitting under a hot lamp for a long time despite everyone around us waiting so long for every course. I needed a knife to cut through it and there were bones that I pulled out. My partner's lamb was nearly burnt and there was barely any meat (they looked like cake pops). We both ate barely anything. At this point, we mention it to our server who immediately says we will get a discount (everyone around us seemed to be complaining). Our desserts were fine enough so we ate as much as we could tolerate because we were so hungry. While it's clear that management set up the employees for failure with how everything was structured, there were other inherent issues that make me question the quality of this place. The wine options (you would assume a French restaurant would have a great selection) and the fact they were okay sending out food that was terrible makes me hesitant to ever come back. Even with a discount, we still spent nearly $200 and had to grab food on the way home because we ate so little. Yes it's us! We ended up here (my choice) for our last date night of the year, and I was taking Mi Amor out for a date. I wasn't sure how things were going to play out since #1 it's was New Years Eve and #2 I made my reservations THAT afternoon AND they were doing 7 course meal. There was a sweet and spicy taste too it paired with the balsamic reduction!!! Never thought I would've ate something like that! My husband salmon tartare was also SPOT ON!!! It was hands down one of our (notice the our) best chosen dishes from the options. We tried to get different things so we could try as many options as possible. We visited for my Birthday dinner. It was our first time and we will definitely be back. I had scallops in a Butternut squash purée, the others got a Babette steak, we were all pleased with the food. While eating a lady sat down to play a harp and played Happy Birthday! She then played classic rock songs, it was very entertaining! read more

Went here for a date night from Southport all the way to Zionsville. Totally worth the drive! Such a cute little spot, but the food is top notch. If I could sit there all night and eat one thing, it would be those decadent lavender rolls they were so soft and warm, and that black salt butter..so good! It's like you're in heaven. My first plate was a little cold, but the staff was awesome and remade it, and it tasted great after that! read more
