I went here with a friend of mine and we both had such a great experience we could not believe it so we went back a 2nd time the next day.. and the food was amazing the dressing was all house made and perfect tastings.. I dated a Chef so she taught me to be a bad critic of food... but there was absolutely nothing I could find wrong with this place.. great drinks and fresh food... nothing was over or under cooked and everything tasted 5 star... Great blackened tuna sandwich. I took the mayo off and used a different sauce. I forget the name but our waitress recommended it when I asked. The prices were decent as well. The menu at the restaurant has more than the menu online. The only bad thing is the food took extremely long even considering being busy. Our appetizer took a long time and even waited a long time after we finished it; also seeing a server eat fries off someone's plate in the kitchen before another server served it to someone. The food here is actually pretty darn good but the service is hit or miss, more often miss. Who I believe to be the manager (the bald guy) seems to always be miserable and it gives the whole place a bad vibe. This place is great. I'm there twice a month. I have never had any issues. We usually sit in the bar area. The diners are friendly the staff is awesome and the food is great. My rating is defined by overall points received per category, each category can get a max of ten points Service: This place is amazing when it comes to service, Within 3 seconds of walking through the door I was greeted with a big smile, they asked the day old question how many people, as it was just me, I was seated within a minute. now for the waiter I resecieved was nothing less then the best in the resturant. Very polite and knowledgeable on all the food choices and very honest as well, made the place feel complete even manged to close the blinds a little bit as the sun was baring down on me at 1pm. overall score for service (9/10) Food: Now I had The chipotle Bison Burger which was inexpensive compared to others in the area that offer such a meal. it was amazing cooked perfectly to medium as requested and the seasoning was just perfect great spice but not to much with perfect grilling it was the best Bison Burger I've Eaten in 5 years, then the grade of pepper jack cheese was okay tasted as if it has been sitting out for the day and lost some of its spice in the process. but the Burger quality made up for it. Now for the first side i went to the waiter for recomendation and with that he recomended the potato cake, Now to say it was just okay is a huge understatement, now with only having this item once before it was notably a lot better then the first one, it was hot I mean hot when I recieved to the point where I slightly burned my tongue. now some may argue that it was to hot then but I with that I knew the freshness of the item. The texture was eloquent, and overall amazing side item. Now for the second side: I went with the french fries and I say this in the nicest way possible but they where a let down. the sheer amount of grease I recieved with them soaked the fries to the point where they ended up soggy. the seasoning was lackluster missing everything but salt which is just not okay. The Ribeye steak at this restaurant is absolute perfection. I have eaten a lot of steaks, but when this plate came out the steak was incredibly juicy and tender enough to pull apart with your fork. I would have never guessed this would be the place to get this kind of quality steak, and this is a steak that does not need any sauces to dress it up. It is the real deal. Food is okay, but service is awful. I called the restaurant around 4:30pm on a Saturday evening to inquire about call-ahead seating for my birthday dinner of 9 people. I was rudely told that they do not do reservations or call-ahead, and that if a party of 9 arrives at 5pm, we would have to wait 1 hour. When we arrived around 5:15, we were seated immediately. Service was fine throughout dinner (wait time for appetizers and entrees was a little long), but towards the end service went downhill. We had to ask twice for a to-go box, and still never got it. We had already paid and were sitting finishing our beers and enjoying company, while also waiting on another server to pass by to ask for a box one more time. Eventually, a man (possibly some kind of manager) came and asked how dinner was and if we needed anything. We told him we were waiting on a box, which we got promptly. Then, we were ASKED TO LEAVE because others were waiting! I could not believe how rude that was. Nothing puts a damper on a birthday dinner like being kicked out! read more

As far as sandwich shoppes in hickory go, I haven't found a better one. I just randomly chose the sandwich of the day, which was a turkey swiss with spinach, pesto, etc. I expected that it would be OK, but I was dead wrong. It was *really* good. Full of flavor, and the butter grilled bread was delicious. I also had the fillet bisque, and I was very much impressed with it as well. Had a smokey thick flavor that lent itself very well to a soup. Ya know, some soups almost taste like spaghetti sauce, but this one was thick enough to really do well as a soup. Overall I would highly recommend this place if you're in the Hickory area for lunch. read more

Hate to be one of those people that come in right before closing, but i have not eaten most of the day and just landed in charlotte an hour earlier. Lack of option that time of night showed they were still serving dinner for another 30 minutes. So i kept it simple by ordering a soup and a burger so the staff wouldnt completely hate me. It was delicious, perfect size, taste, everything. Waitress was awesome and very attentive considering my showing up when I did. 1st round: Went there with a group of 8 (big parties are pain, I know) and we waited quite a while. We made sure we could be seated at the same table and we're assured by staff. The hostess took us to two tables, of which we had an issue with after clearly asking 30 minutes prior for a single table. We asked if we could pull the two tables together, since they weren't that far apart and the hostess did so for us. The manager came out and started giving us an attitude immediately and chastised us for moving the tables. After trying to reconcile the situation - the manager rolled her eyes at us without remorse and continued with an attitude. Needless to say, but we left without eating. I omitted a review, until I decided to give them a second chance. Second attempt: Wait staff was friendly, but poorly trained. I received a salad in an unclean bowl (dried cheese from previous dish) and the main dish sides were ice cold on both meals at the table. We politely asked for a replacement and it took 10 minutes to get it - throwing the whole meal off. Again, staff were friendly - but this places needs to hire a consultant to fix their management team and train their employees. I'm pulling for them, seriously. read more

I called in an order today. Really craving a good tasting burger. Placed my order with an employee who answered "Backstreets" and nothing more. Not hi can I help you? Told my order would be ready in 15 to 20 minutes. Got there at exactly 20 minutes later and was told my order would be ready in 10 more minutes. The same lady who took my payment at the front, asked once again if she could help me, lol, then remembered she had already. A few minutes later, was approached by someone who looked like a customer who said "Are you Smith?" She looked angry, or maybe smiling is against her religion. Handed me my to go order in a grocery store plastic bag. I got home and found the burger, although tasty, had been charred and black. Perhaps if they had given me my order when I got there, not 10 minutes later, it wouldn't have been burned. There was only one small tomato slice on the big 6 ounce burger. The bacon was not completely done either. What were they doing with that extra 10 minutes? Oh yeah, burning my burger. Surely not making sure the bacon was all the way done. I had to put the bacon in my oven to complete cooking it. The fries were ok. The bun was ok. The Ranch dressing was good. If I hadn't been craving a burger I would have taken the whole thing back and told them to just keep it. Disappointing burger. Disappointing service. This is my first time in this restaurant. The service and atmosphere seem cozy. I enjoy their service. I rated a 1 star due to the food. I order the soup of the day, this upset my stomach. The soup was the white bean with sausage soup. Then I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap with baked potatoes. I never had the chance to finish my meal due to my upset stomach. We used to enjoy Backstreets B&G, when the quality of food was great and the service was top-notch. Since the move, things have gone downhill in quality and attitude all the way around. In the last five visits to Backstreets, there was at least one member of the dining party that was vastly disappointed. Each time we experienced these disappointments, we decided to go back and give them another try because we try to support locally and were, at one time, fond of the fare and atmosphere. On the most recent visit, Saturday, December 22, 2012, every aspect of our dining experience was off the mark. The service started with attitude, the appetizer was mediocre, both entrees (Blackened Chicken over Caesar and Buttermilk Fried Grouper sandwich) were awful, and the draft beer came with dirty glasses. The attitude and dirty looks came closely after I exchanged my nasty glass for another, as if I had complained to get an adjustment for our bill. Backstreets won't have to worry about any adjustment...there will never be another dime spent by us there. That's a shame! read more
