Backstreet Grille is definitely one of our favorite places to eat! We don't live in Columbia, but we make a point to eat there whenever we can. The food is great but really the reason we go there is for Lainey! Lainey always take care of us. Even though we are not regulars she somehow remembers us and what we like to drink/eat...it's amazing really! We went there for brunch for the first time yesterday and brought some friends who had never eaten there and we all enjoyed the food and the service (as usual). My husband and I go to Backstreets frequently to watch games and today was a big playoff GameDay. We have always had excellent service and Ashley has been our server on multiple occasions and does a great job. Today we went for the Bengals game in the middle of the day and they're were approximately 10 other people in the bar area when we arrived. The bartender Lainey changed all TVs in the bar area to the SC Women's Basketball game. I understand that her friends at the bar who are apparently regulars wanted to watch that game and I am fine with that. When I asked her to change back to the NFL game on some of the TVs she yelled across the bar angrily that she was trying to fix it. She then said that if everyone was going to give her attitude she would just put the TVs on true crime shows and make us watch that. She proceeded to go to the end of the bar and speak to her friends about me as my husband and I saw her looking at us and talking to them and they both turned around and looked directly at us. Her reaction to customers asking to watch a game was uncalled for and rude and continuing to talk about said customers to her friends was unprofessional. We go to this restaurant frequently and were planning to stay for the game and continue to have food and drinks but instead decided to leave at halftime because of this rude unwelcoming behavior. We spoke to the manager who was very apologetic and made us feel as though our concerns were validated. The only reason we will return is because of the manager's response and the excellent service from Ashley. If we go again and Lainey is at the bar we will turn around and leave immediately. I will not spend my money somewhere with staff that treats people as though they are an inconvenience for spending their hard earned money there and asking to watch a football game. I will also not bring others there to be treated this way. Without Lainey I would give the restaurant a 5 star review. read more

We went for lunch and chose it purely at random, relying on Yelp comments and recommendations. It was 15-20 minutes.from I-77, but worth the side trip. The food was all excellent, and we each had a different order. The French onion soup and the vegetable soup were both great. The French Onion Soup had loads of onions and cheese. The vegetable soup was thick with vegetables, & both we're tasty. The chicken salad had a full tree of fried onion rings and quite a bit of tasty fried chicken pieces.The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and crisp, as were the beans. The patty melt was delicious, with a thick grilled burger and in between 2 slices of marble rye bread. One of our party had a Kayle Salad, that she was "really great", and the other had a Roast Beef Au Jus. The sandwich was also very good. Our server, named Tamara, was fantastic, and couldn''t have been better. She was upbeat, and answered questions quickly and honestly. She was attentive and Personable. Hi Backstreets a couple weeks ago with my family. It was very good! What a extremely broad menu... I will be very likely to return to this fine establishment after they put a kind note in my to go bag. I've been wanting to come here since they opened a few weeks ago and finally made it for lunch! The menu was just as expansive at lunchtime and there were a lot of options for appetizers, wraps/sandwiches, salads, pizzas, entrees, and more. We started with the sesame crusted ahi tuna appetizer which was fresh and seared rare. The sauces drizzled on the plate and served on the side were so good we were triple dipping. For the mains, we shared a half pound of buffalo shrimp and the veggie pizza. The shrimp typically comes fried, but we ordered it grilled instead which was no problem for the kitchen. It was nice that they offered this as a lighter option! The veggie pizza came with four or five different veggies which were well seasoned and roasted and delicious. We also opted for cauliflower crust and it was the best I've ever had! Perfectly browned and crispy and held up all the toppings. We were really happy with everything we ordered! The sweet potato fries were delicious! Crispy, tasty. My only reservations is the fact the building is old so it has some old musty types smells. I'm sensitive to that and was a little uncomfortable and wary of the cleanliness. However, I didn't see dirty tables, dirty floors, etc. I ordered the fried tilapia wrap and also enjoyed that. Traveling from out of town we had a rough experience at a restaurant previously, to the point of us walking out in frustration. We were greeted immediately by the hostess and seated promptly. The waitress came quickly and got our drink orders placed. We had plenty of time to pick our appetizers while feeling served with our drinks and the kind hospitality. We were able to go to the local draft wall and the bartender was extremely helpful and even gave us samples of the beers we were interested in. We ordered 2 local beers and enjoyed them immensely. We all ordered different things but the Ruben was unbelievably good. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for solid food and a hospitable place. read more

My party was about 11 people (5 were children) and he was beyond patient with us. He never complained & the other servers he worked with were helpful as well .. they worked as a real team. Absolutely loved this restaurant. Came for my mom's birthday with the family and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I especially enjoyed mine, being vegan. It's not too often I can come to a restaurant and find not only a special menu to accommodate my request, but tasty food that satisfies my appetite. I eat plant-based and I LOVE FOOD, but I honestly hate when the only vegan options are beyond/impossible meats and/or tofu. Or an item that you would clearly think is 100% plant-based, only to learn that they use butter or some meat fat in the preparation. I ordered the veggie wrap. I couldn't eat the sauce on the side, as that did have dairy, but I just ate it with some salsa that was leftover from some nachos my hubby and son ate. It was really good! Really enjoying this newer addition to dining options in Columbia! The menu is extremely extensive, and there's something for everyone. It won't be difficult to find something that sounds good, but it might be difficult to narrow it down! I'm especially fond of their wraps: lots of choices, lots of flavor. The waitstaff is excellent and will always make sure that they've got your order 100% correct. I often eat out with a very picky eater friend, and their order has always been correct here-- that's my standard for "they're really paying attention." A+ on that. My only issue, and the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5, is that it's very loud in the restaurant. The bar is very close to the dining area, and groups can kind of spill over toward the booths, which is a little uncomfortable. It's also hard to talk with a dining companion. Regardless, I'll keep coming back! Glad to see that they offer delivery options, too! read more

My parents were in town for the night and wanted to try something a little different than the usual. I found Backstreets Grill through Yelp, and we decided to give it a try - we were not disappointed, to say the least. Our waiter Aaron made the experience even better with extremely helpful recommendations from the menu, as there is a lot to choose from. Everyone got the rib eye, but I decided on the cajun chicken pasta and did not regret that decision! Beware that the portions are large, and with entrees you pick two sides and a soup or salad. The owner came to check on us at the end of our meal, and talked with us about the history of their restaurant, etc. As this is their second location, they've only been opened for about three months, but I will without a doubt be back. A friend and I ate here tonight to celebrate her promotion. The service was exceptional. Hannah continued to be attentive to us! We both ordered a special (chicken pasta and filet) and they did not disappoint. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were seasoned appropriately. Adequate portion sizes as well. The desserts were phenomenal. We learned that one of the desserts is a recipe passed down to several generations. How cool is that? The manager led by example. I am soooo glad my family tried this place out last night! It's always scary going somewhere new for me, because you never know how much you'll really enjoy it and nobody likes spending money on things you aren't satisfied with... Very happy to report that Backstreets Grill did NOT disappoint us! Starting with the service, our waitress was phenomenal. She was very personable and very easy to make casual fun conversation with. While the hostess was a little awkward about us coming in shortly after 8pm with an infant (it was our anniversary and the only time our schedule would allow), our waitress didn't skip a beat and was very accommodating. Now, the food.... I cheated on my diet and got the lump crab cake sandwich and fries. The spicy caesar dressing that comes with it was so yummy, I got it on the side and dipped my fries in it too! My hubby got a grilled chicken sandwich and roasted veggies and was happy with his food as well! Next time I'm going to try the fried oysters with that yummy sauce based on a recommendation from our server. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because I'm just a little unsure how family friendly this place really is although the overall experience we had was fine. Would still probably be better for date night vs. a dinner with your child included, although if bringing your child is the only option I still say give it a shot! read more

I was super impressed by this place. The fam went for a birthday lunch a couple of weeks ago. The staff were very friendly, and attentive. Also I noticed them wiping down the menus after each use. That's a big plus for me. I got an app of chicken tenders, and they asked what side I wanted. I went with onion rings. Who gets a side with an appetizer, that's just crazy, that could have been the meal right there. The tenders were pretty good they came with a side of honey sriracha, I thoroughly enjoyed them, as did the rest of the table. The big surprise was the onion rings. I tend to be picky about them. Usually they come with too much bread, but these were lightly breaded just like my dad makes. We also got a crab dip that was just okay. I got the Carolina burger wrap, loaded with slaw and chili. I really liked it, the fries were okay. The wife got a black bean wrap. My niece got the tilapia and it was two giant pieces of fish. I can't recall what anyone else got, but we all enjoyed the experience. We will be going back for sure. I thought long and hard about the special of the day, which was a bacon egg and cheese sandwich. If they have that next time, I will try it out. read more
