This is a large, open air bar/restaurant with lots of energy and things for kids and adults to do. If you want to watch a game, this is an excellent place with TVs and excellent sound system. They have to Giant (and I mean giant) tv displays plus multiple smaller TVs throughout the facility. There are lots of activities for kids to play including cornhole and pop a shot. Typical bar food that is about average in quality and pretty reasonably priced. A group of us tried the nachos, hummus plate and potato skins. Our experience with their service was mixed, but I think they are still getting their feet under them and like many places, they may be having trouble getting adequate staffing. Our wait person was great. She was very friendly and efficient. That said, it took a long time for the servers to bring our food - I assume it was due to a backup in the kitchen. Final note: it was incredibly loud, but it was a Saturday afternoon and they had a musical group performing. It may not be so loud at other times, but we actually moved outside because we couldn't hear each other at our table. (Our waitperson was hoarse from having to speak so loudly for customers to hear). What a disappointing and underwhelming experience. The atmosphere is incredibly loud, the cost to value too expensive, and the food was terrible. The most complimentary comment from our group was "the food was just OK". If this place wants any longevity, they need to up their game big time. The wings, although a decent size, were flabby and cold. The chicken sandwich I had was clearly a frozen flat chicken breast, on a bun that you can get at any supermarket, with frozen crinkle cut fries that they left in the fryer too long. The chicken breast had the texture of freezer burn. I would be ashamed to serve this poor quality of food to anybody at my house, but to get it from a restaurant that charges their prices, it's inexcusable. They charge $2 more per pint of beer than most places, and once the head settled, if I got 14 ounces, I'd be lucky. Yeah, if you haven't guessed, none of us are going back. read more

Service was slow. I understand it's busy but it took over 15 minutes after we were seated before a server came over and took our order. When our food arrived it was cold and we had no silverware. Honest about the problems of opening way to early, and helped steer us away from some choices that aren't very good on the menu: food service was a bit delayed but we were warned up front by the staff that the kitchen was not functioning properly. The atmosphere was fun; family (and dog) friendly. The server was attentive and nice. The food runner was not. He didn't smile, he just sat the food down and walked away. The nachos were great! The salads were very large. I did not care for the chicken that came on the nachos or in the salad. It tasted like it had been frozen and didn't taste cooked enough. First of all, all of the negative reviews for the Backyard are very accurate and well deserved. The owners and management of the Backyard need to understand that customers are not stupid and they realise bad service and atmosphere when they encounter them. They made a nice what used to be "The Sand Bar", as much as a dive as it was, into what resembles a noisy warehouse rather than a restaurant/bar. The good: the servers and bar tenders try hard but most of the time they are overwhelmed and running around like chickens with their cut off! The bad: too big, too loud, people, music and TVs. 30 minutes after being there you just feel like leaving. Add to that too many kids and dogs! The ugly: it is very shameful what is advertised as half price Happy Hour, yes it is half price but for half the regular order! Moreover the portions are shrinking as well. It is really bad when the full order of 8 wings becomes 5 wings for half the price but now the 5 just became 4 wings, are you kidding me? Finally their happy well drinks are of the cheapest quality and gives you a bad headache although there is hardly any liquor in them. I will order regular priced drinks thank you! When they opened they complained that their reviews are 3.7 but look now it is 3 and it will only be going down if the Backyard does't clean up its act. read more

I want to start this off by saying I understand this place is very new and is already so popular especially since the weather is nice and March madness is going on Me and my husband came in this past Thursday (03/21) and we had made a reso on open table- I want to give kudos to the restaurant because I made the reso at 330pm that day and they had availability for 4pm+ (which was very nice considering how popular we have seen this place get since it opened) However when we got there, although we got seated immediately, it took 10min for someone to notice us. We saw multiple servers pass by us AND serving the tables around us but no one took the initiative and said anything... As I got up after 10 min to speak to the hostess and see why we haven't been served waters yet, a young gal came up to our table with waters in hand and said "This isn't my section but I saw you guys haven't been given waters yet so I will be your server". Afterwards even though this server wasn't our "assigned section" server she ended up taking very good care of us and checked in frequently with quick service even though her section seemed to be on the other side of the restaurant The food was good however I do wish they had more options. They really only had 3 per section (appetizers/burgers and sandwiches/pizza/salad). I think there may be room for some diversity in food because people who will come here often may not want the same 3 items every time. Maybe implement seasonal items or chef favorites (i.e., specials) to make it more authentic and show the personality of the restaurant instead of making it a "basic bar food" place This place has a great environment and is definitely the spot to watch sports games/etc It also has a GREAT happy hour value for beers and liquor/margaritas/etc Since I grew up in desert ridge area I do think this place is much needed!! read more

This place is horrible they accused me of not paying my tab and humiliated me in front of everybody at the restaurant. Waitress claimed I did not pay and the manager was asking for prof of payment made me pull up my bank statement but obviously the charges don't show up immediately. Service was bad waited 1hr to be seated and after they sat us down no one came to help us for 30 min so I had to go tell the hostess and the finally sent someone over. I will never go there again.
