The reason I chose Backyard Master was because they were the only Doughboy approved vendor on Long Island. I guess when you don't have competition you don't need to answer the phone or return a phone call. It started when the recommended "team" pulled out all the greenery and when I called Backyard Masters to confirm that they would be delivering the pool, I was told my pool wouldn't be in for weeks. When I signed and paid a large down payment in August, Dean,Jr. joked I would probably get a few swims in this year....backyard demolished August 31st - pool filled October 2nd. Pool opened last week, put in the robot and the lining was punctured due to an unseen stone on the bottom of the pool. Of course NOT their problem, but I called Saturday morning for help Dean Jr said he would call back. Still waiting for the call. It's now a Thursday. Hired another company it was fixed that day. Bottom line customer service is the WORST. They never answer the phone OR call you back. Thank goodness my nightmare has ended. I've been in touch with Doughboys parent company they are providing coping to fix the ugly gaps on either side of the walk in steps and they also provided the proper design specs for town approval. Backyard masters sent unacceptable photocopies the town laughed at. The company that they recommended World Pools put the filter a foot from the property line they gave me the permit with the stipulation it be moved. I'm the idiot that paid $800.00 for them to move it when it was their mistake. If you can go anywhere else do it. read more

I bought above ground Doughboy pool from Backyard Masters and I have had a very bad experience with this pool. A few weeks after the pool being installed the pump went bad and I had to wait another few weeks for a new one to be shipped and installed from Backyard Masters. By the time new one was installed pool season was over. I got maybe two weeks of use before pool had to be closed. The following year after opening the pool I kept noticing that I kept having to vacuum the pool and sand kept coming out of the filter. I contacted Backyard Masters late into the season and they blamed the third party I used to close and open my pool Sweeneys Pool service in Holbrook. They denied liability and said it was not their fault. Backyard masters blamed them. I got barely any use of pool that summer as it became very hard to clean. I convinced Backyard Masters to come assess and they diagnosed the sand filter as being bad but wanted me to pay out of pocket for the filter. I got in touch with the manufacturer in California and after an extensive back and forth the manager sent me a new sand filter. Backyard Masters had promised to put the sand filter in free of charge over the phone and did not show up the following year to open my pool. Just last month I followed up with Kevin of Backyard Masters to open my pool and he told me it was going to cost close to 600 dollars. He refused to honor what he told me over the phone and would not install new filter nor open my pool this year. The understanding was that I would get new filter and he would install it free of charge. There was no follow through. I spent 6000 dollars on this 16 foot round Doughboy pool and I want the opening and installation free of charge like promised. I am seeking for Doighboy to cover the cost of refund for the pool. I have been through enough aggravation. read more

I just purchased a 21' swim spa from the guys at Backyard Masters. I couldn't be more excited or happier. I worked with Antonio the sales manager. He was a class act and answered all of my questions. He went over all of the options that I could add to my swim spa but didn't try to sell me on all the options. He told me what I needed to make our experience great. He worked on getting me all the discounts he was able to and I left a happy customer. Can't wait until it's installed this summer. In April of 2020 I ordered a Doughboy pool from Backyard Masters.  Due to Covid, my pool didn't come in until late August 2020, and was installed, by someone they recommended, half sunk, on September 1, 2020. On September 15, 2020 I noticed the permitter of the pool was all wet and it was determined that my pool was leaking.  At first Backyard Masters was claiming that the recent rain brought up rocks in the ground that caused my liner to rip. Then the installer came back to look at the liner he was very indignant and kept telling me it was from the ladder and who put the ladder in the pool and at that time he and his worker couldn't find the leak (which was on the opposite side of the pool from the ladder). Backyard Master's then sent a specialist to see what was going on. He found three holes on the seam of the liner. He repaired the holes - the patches did not match my liner, nor were they flush - within a day they were starting to lift up from the edges.  I told them that they pool hadn't even been used and that this was unacceptable, that either the liner wasn't installed properly, or it was defective. Backyard Masters agreed to replace the liner. As this couldn't be done until the spring, I used the company they recommended to close my pool.  The workers did a sloppy job closing the pool - they didn't tie the two pillows together or tie them to the sides of the pool.  One of the pillows deflated, and one moved off to the side of the pool.  The cover didn't fully stay on the pool all winter, and they broke the flap to the skimmer. On March 29, 2021 they had the same installer replace my liner. The installer called me and told me he replaced the liner and everything was fine. When I got home, I found my old liner rolled up in a ball on the side of my house. On May 15th I notified Backyard Masters that the pool was once again leaking. They told me there was a problem with my property that I had bugs or a rodent that was creating pinholes in my liner. They then told me they saw a picture of my soil that was taken when the installer replaced my liner. When I asked them why the installer would put down a new liner if he thought there was a problem I was told "He had no cause for concern". He had not cause for concern, yet he took a picture of squiggly lines in the sand. They told me he didn't know what it was, yet all of a sudden he told me have a mole or bugs and there was a problem with my soil? When he came to my house in September to see why the liner was leaking, he couldn't find the leak yet in May he found pinholes in my dirty water and no one bothered to tell me?  Backyard Masters recommended I have a landscaper or exterminator look at my property. I had both my landscaper and an exterminator look at my property. Per both - I do not have moles. The exterminator did not see any terminates or ants, in my garage or house. He also did not see any terminates or ants in my yard After spending thousands of dollars, I was left with a leaking, unusable pool. I ended up calling a separate company in to look at the pool and when the put the blue dye in the pool it was obvious that the seam was split open.  I had this company patch the seam and the pool hasn't leaked since. The seam is covered by warranty, yet Backyard Masters refuses to stand by the warranty. Backyard Master claims "they are here to help", but all they did was put a band aids on the problem and the contractors they recommend are sloppy, and unprofessional. read more

I went into this store looking for some furniture for my patio and this blonde haired lady came over to "help" me. She gave me her card and said her name was Lisa, she was probably the rudest person I have ever met in my life. She was pushy, inattentive and even questioned why on earth I would want to purchase a lounge swing for my yard. When I would inquire about a price on a product she would bark a number out at me and tell me how I better act fast as there are shortages and who knows how long prices will last. Do yourself a favor and go to any other store than this place. I rather deal with a used car salesperson than this nasty lady. read more

I don't know what to say .... They were quick to sell me a hot tub. They made that part easy. Took our payment very quickly. However when we need them for information regarding to electricity for our electrician , we couldn't reach them . There were no information on our invoice regarding to amp and volts. It took 3 days for them finally answered my call. They give me a tech and spoke to my electrician . And gave my electrician all the wrong information. Now my electrician have to charge me extra for different parts and returning to my house for the 2nd time. This is just poor customer service. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE . I agree with those that said if they could give Backyard Masters in Farmingdale NO Stars because after my experience I would give NO stars. Wanted to buy an above ground pool this summer so that my family would have some fun. I dealt with a sales guy named Rich who suggested to me to take a pool he had in stock which was the size I was looking for and since many pool stores were not receiving shipments of pools until later in the summer I decided to purchase the in stock pool. Rich sent me an email with picture of pool which also included items contained in the store pool package and he indicated that this pool was in stock. We discussed the filter I would be receiving as well. So I paid a 50 percent deposit and was told the pool installer would contact me to set up an install date. The next day after receiving my invoice copy via email (because stores are closed right now) I noticed that the filter had been changed on my order. When I called and asked Rich why, his response was that he really didn't know. So I called and spoke to his boss who is entitled "Operations Manager" Dustin . He said the filter was fine and Rudely offered no explanation why it had been switched to a less powerful one. So we decided to pay a few hundred dollars extra to upgrade to a Hayward filter and we were familiar with the good reputation of that brand. My invoice was revised for the Hayward filter. Ten days later (today, Sunday of Memorial Day weekend) Rich the sales guy calls me and tells me the "in stock" pool I purchased is not available. I said how can that be when you told me and sent me an email of your inventory showing you had the pool. Then Rich replied oh well the pool is damaged. My response was you and Dustin and the rest of Backyard Masters didn't know this for 10 days? Then Rich says we have another pool coming in this week from a different company and if I want that I have to pay $1,000 more!!! This is a totally fraudulent and horrible way to do business. I immediately demanded a refund as that set off alarms bells for me (and given the fact I never set out to spend an additional $1,000). No apologies from the Operations Manager or owners. So please, buyer beware and stay away! UPDATE: Dustin- your sales guy Rich called us 10 days later to say pool was damaged and personally told my husband and I that the other pool he could offer us was going to cost us another $1000 and that is why you lost the sale.Maybe you should make sure that your sales team knows what they are talking about in the future! read more

I wish they had a negative 0! The absolute worst customer service in the entire world. I was trying to get a pool installed and literally had to call and call and call. Spoke with Dean Jr, Jesse, Larry and Dustin. One of them was even a manager. They all say they will call you back and no one ever did. Finally had enough after a month of waiting for them, went some where else and found out their semi unground pools they sell are not meant for underground at all. Thank god we didn't use them! HORRIBLE PLACE TO DO BUSINESS WITH. I was in the market for a pool after speaking with a salesman for sometime it was time to try and close me so he moved me in to The manager. They have zero respect for ones time a continued to curse in front of my children. On top of they the aftercare is non existent no follow up and every complaint I have they try and blame it on the installation company they are not willing to help and the Main manager doesn't return calls and is very unprofessional. The product they offer is marked up 1000% and is so overpriced it's not even funny. Please shop around and do not get pressured into buying something. Went into Backyard masters in search of a hot tub to be delivered ASAP during the pandemic. Our salesperson was very helpful and worked hard to find us something that was available although it was very difficult. The delivery and installation people they recommended were very good as well. Found that the customer service (although difficult to find someone available for a while) ended up being to our satisfaction. Would recommend using them for your spa and hot tub needs. read more

Backyard Masters or as we like to call it Backyard Disaster. Bought a patio set in 2010 that came with a 7 year warranty. 2 years later, the table started oxidizing and turning white. I contacted the manufacture and they said to submit my claim through the store. I did just that and was getting the run around. After waiting and waiting and them telling me the manufacturer wasn't getting back to them, I called the manufacturer direct and they said they would take care of it. Again, waiting, and then finaly getting told by BM that they would locate me a new table but I might not get it till next season. Eventually they agreed to give me a store credit (at first, they wouldn't even tell me how much it was going to be for. I finally was given $700 credit which I applied to a more expensive set. And when purchasing this more expensive set that was on sale, it was suppose to come with a bonus day bed, which they told me wouldn't give me the bonus. Fast forward to this May, after opening the backyard I realized all the chairs from that set were now also oxidized. Since I was within the 7 year warranty, I called the manufactuer directly because I knew I wasn't going to get anywhere with Backyard Masters. They agreed the chairs were irreparable and decided to issue me a credit for the cost BM paid but I would have to deal with the store for the remaining markup cost. They no longer do business with BackYard Masters due to their terrible customer service. Backyard Masters refused to honor my warranty so I contacted Suffolk County Consumer Affairs and filed a complaint. BM response was that the furniture only had a 1 year warranty and it wasn't covered anymore (that was a lie because I have the paperwork directly from the manufacturer and the manufacturer refunded me because it was under warranty.) SC Consumers Affiars was going to hit them with a fine for deliverying nonconforming goods and not honoring the warranty which would cost more than amount I am asking unless they refunded me the difference or gave me store credit. They then finally agreed to give me store credit ONLY to the manufacturers products (remember, the manufacturer dropped them as a customer so they don't carry their products). Consumer Affairs brought this to their attention and they said they would order the product I wanted for me (another run around, since. I have no where of seeing this manufactuers products and since this was going on since early May, I already purchased a new patio set so I am not looking to spend more than the credit amount ) Needless to say, this is not over I am working with Consumer Affairs and willing to go further to court unless I either get refunded or store credit to any product in their store on principal. They have lied over and over and drag these complaints out months and have been very rude to both their customers and suppliers. I would highly recommend staying away from that store. My SPA was delivered as promised and the installation crew was great. The factory did not tighten one of the hoses all the way and there was a small leak. I called Antonio on Sunday afternoon, Antonio had the repair person call me Sunday evening and he came out right away and fixed. That service is as good as it gets!! Later on I misunderstood the settings on the SPA and thought something was wrong. Again Antonio had the repair person call me within hours and he talked me thru the settings on the SPA. Again the service was as good as it gets. I love these guys, great price, great delivery, great service standing behind their product. We went to Backyard Masters right after Memorial day weekend when shopping for a semi-inground pool. they were the cheapest and you definitely get what you pay for. Dean Jr was do friendly and nice when we were there to buy the pool (I guess to close the sale). Once we left the store and had given them our money it all went downhill. We were told we would have the install the last week of June but it took nearly a week for anyone to call us and actually set it up and we didn't get an install date until the 2nd week of July. They were TWO hours late to deliver the pool and my husband couldn't even get in touch with anyone at the store because they weren't open yet. When they finally showed up we were missing our ladder, chemical O, solar cover,sand and weights. They charged us more for the pool than we have quoted and signed for (we disputed with the CC company). The install was $500 more than what Dean quoted us (he even wrote it down. The installer was great but we noticed the lining seemed off and our pool was a little crooked. Installed assured us it's no big deal. When we called to get our ladder THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE US and actually called the installer to verify it wasn't in any of the boxes. It took almost 3 weeks of calling them to finally GET a ladder (it's not even the right one but I needed something to get in and out of the pool). My husband had to just show up at the store and they grabbed whatever ladder they could find (ours was on "backorder" along with the chemical O & solar cover which were mysteriously back in stock when he showed up). Now it's the end of the season and our filter just died and our pool has a huge indent in the bottom. We had to drain the ENTIRE pool so the installer can come fix the pool Tuesday. my husband spoke to Luke over the phone who told us to bring in the filter for a warranty exchange. Of course when showed up today he had just left. Dean was there and gave us an attitude ("who authorized this?) and didn't even remember us; they acted like we broke the brand new filter on purpose! After finally getting an exchange my husband grabbed our winter cover (which was on "backorder") off the shelf and we got the hell out. I'm so glad to be done with these people. read more

These guys are crooks. I call them the night before to get a price on a product and was quoted $169. the next day I send my wife in to buy the product and they now say its 189. When I explained to whoever is on duty that quote before was for $169 they refused to honor the price. I explained that I had wasted time and gas getting there because of what their employee told me they did not care and refused again to honor the price. I will never buy anything from them regardless of the price being lower . they do not know how to handle an irate customer. and should go out of business as soon as possible. We have been trying to work with this company for roughly a week now and they do not want to take our money. We keep calling the person assigned to help us and he is constantly at jobs and refuses to send actual prices or assist us on getting anything done. The store doesnt want to help and couldnt care less. We basically had to force them to come out and measure our pool. They now have the measurements of the liner but wont tell us what it costs and wont call us back. We were fortunate enough to get a rough estimate in the beginning. The only bright spot this company has going for it, is their contractor who does the masonry work. hence the 2nd star. He is the only reason im still even considering b-y masters. We wanted to have the liner and brickwork done together by one place. Fabricio and his company seemed on point and official. We were excited to have him possibly do the work for us. We still may hire fabricio and just have another company other than backyard masters do the lining, stairs and saltwater conversion. They are pretty clueless. I will update this posting if they happen to miraculously turn this around., although it does not look promising. update: im going to drop my review back down to 1 star. We finally received a callback yesterday. Im assuming this is because everything settled down after the holiday weekend. I already picked a new company and they have begun the renovation. I guess our business wasnt that important. im not sure if the newer posters are dealing with the same place but customer service was non-existent for me. Completely a sham. Everything is overpriced and not because it is "quality" furniture, it's because they prey on the stupid who don't know better price/quality wise. Took a woman 37 minutes (timed accurately bc I checked my watch as she walked away to get a price, then again as she walked out because I couldn't believe it was taking so long) they don't have enough room in the building for their stuff! Ripped the side of my pants on their crap stone. Had to use their facilities upon entering the building because I'm pregnant and it was a super long ride. Both bathrooms were occupied by staff members looking to get away to play on their phones in private because they have no customers and one staff member who (very smartly!) Locked himself in there with cleaning supplies pretending that he was cleaning the bathroom (which is FILTHY and he left bleach in the bathroom opened and not properly labeled) thank god I didn't let my kids go to the bathroom by themselves!!! Not only was this the case, when I politely knocked (VERY POLITELY and then APOLOGIZED for knocking) he whipped the door open gave me a nasty look and practically yelled "There is another bathroom you know!!!" (Which was occupied by the OTHER staff member trying to use company time to mess with his phone) VERY VERY RUDE AND NASTY, that's no way to treat ANYONE much less a customer....MUCH much less an obviously pregnant customer. Forget about the bathroom crap (lol no pun intended) but honestly what a bunch of maroons... overpriced crapolla terrible customer service and even terrible yelp responses...I mean honestly I JUST read "Dustin's" response (which totally looks like the jerk that yelled at me) to this womans review totally violating her privacy saying she was declined financing....WOW that was unnecessary...just say she was unable to purchase. I travel from Bellmore to go here because (a) they are extremely knowledgeable and experienced (b) Their chemicals are twice as effective and lower in cost than places like Island Rec. READ ALL REVIEWS AS THERE ARE MANY BAD ONES BELOW THE GOOD ONES!!! I would not buy anything from this company, My wife purchased a $25,000.00 Spool from them in 2015 and had nothing but problems. After she paid for it in full she had a problem setting up a delivery. It seems like once they had our money she was not important to them anymore. After the delivery we had several small problems including a tear in the cover that we complained about on the day it was installed. She called and called asking for the owner Dean and never got a call back. Finely I had to drive down there in person. I walked in and happen to catch him in the showroom and asked if he was the owner and his answer was "soon to be" I asked him what the heck that meant and he told me it was his dads place and soon would be his, (so professional lol.) I explained very clearly that I was very upset that we were calling for over two weeks and no return calls and if the issues were not taken care of I would come back when he had lots of customers in the showroom and deal with it very loudly. (it was the only way I could get him to help us) He then sent a very nice installer over to fix the issues all except the tear and promised the tear would be taken care of. A little while later all the bolts in one of the corners of the cover popped off and we had to call him back again. He took care of the issue and that was it. I got the phone number off the truck of the installer so I could call him direct. Since then we had a problem with a pump and have been calling him without success. HE NEVER RETURNS THE CALL. We called the installer direct and then heard back from Dean. His response was that he is not sure if the part is under warranty and also he would have to charge us $160.00 travel time for the installer to come over(15 miles away). He also mentioned that if we attempt to call the installer direct again he would fire him. Our last conversation with him was that the small pump is not warrantied and he wants $800.00 for the pump plus the travel time. We do not have little kids, this spool is used very little and we have a blind adult living in the house that cannot use it because of these issues. Bought a hot tub here last year after shopping around and doing my research my wife and I came across this place and we couldn't be happier . Antonio the sales manager guided us in the right direction and explained everything from A to Z .
