I love this place food-wise, I crave it because it is healthy and tasty. However, I have found myself going there less and less because of the awkward lines and long wait times. It is extremely difficult to get salsa and awkward standing next to everybody like a tin of HUMAN SARDINES, as the restaurant packs way too many people in a crowded and cramped space. As I said in a different post, they need to redesign their salsa bar so that people can get it from two different sides and remove a table, and OR add another salsa bar. SUCH AN EASY FIX Also, lower the music as it it is ridiculously loud sometimes and the sound here echoes and reverberates, especially being alongside a heavy road full of car fumes and loud congested traffic. We got Taco Tuesday take out. Everything we got was so good. Well seasoned and flavorful. We got several of each taco, chicken quesadillas and bean and cheese burritos. Backyard Taco is a great little place for cheap tacos, especially on Tuesdays. At this location it's a little bit of a pain to get salsa and stuff (we waited longer in this line than we did for the food), but overall not a big deal. I definitely enjoy coming here when I'm nearby! :) read more

If you want your order to be done right Do NOT come to this location! My Husband and I have been to several Backyard Taco locations and we always share a burrito cut in half. When we got to this location the first time and we asked for our burrito cut in half the girl at the register said the following " We ( Backyard taco) do not provide that type of service because it makes the customers entitled." So now, fast forward to today, 7/30/2020; after work I decided to go to the nearest location ( which is not close to where I live now). My husband ordered in advance : 1 burrito and 7 tacos with six 2 oz guacamole, seven 2 oz of tatemada and plenty of limes. I was reassured by the cashier to not worry there's plenty of guacamole and limes and sauce. So I trusted him.... yeah none of what we ordered was in the bag. Totally earned their award for Best Taco Mesa for the last several years in a row. Right as you walk in, this fabulous aroma hits you in the face. The food is delicious. Highly recommend the carne asada quesadilla and any of the tacos. Seating inside is a bit limited inside but there is plenty outdoors and several misters to keep it cool and enjoyable. Best place in Mesa for tacos! Seating is limited and they are always busy (for obvious reasons, the food is amazing!!), but we've been during lunch rush and have always found a place to sit. First time ordering from here through DoorDash - Items took an insanely long time, and then they forgot our Chips and Salsa, and then as we started eating the food we DID receive.......between me and my family, we all ordered different items and we all found 3 giant nasty black hairs in all of our food. Absolutely disgusting. I get 1...its gonna happen, but are your cooks in the back headbanging to rock music? We ended up just making sandwiches at home after all was said and done. What a find. Great street tacos. Reasonable prices. Loved the salsas. Fresh pico not the typical old tomato kind. The spicy one is very spicy exactly the level of spice I love. Carne asada is outstanding. I generally don't like chicken especially if its not white meat but the chicken isn't bad either. My review is if you love tacos this is a must try. And last they have great dietcoke. I see my review didn't post and for some reason I had it at 4 stars. I'm going to go again but I remember this being a 5 star place. It's not authentic tasting Mexican food. It tastes very restaurant chain Mexican. It gives me Chipotle vibes with less flavor. What I mean by that is the meat in every taco had a bland flavor and gave off preprepared repetitive at several restaurants feels. I wouldn't waste my time. The sauces all don't have any distinct flavor. Only thing giving out flavor is the limes. Also it says on Yelp that the tacos are $1.50 on Tuesday and that is not the case either. They are $2.50 when you get in store. They also aren't worth $2.50. So I was even more frustrated after. I tried all 4 taco types with 2 of each taco type : Al Pastor Tacos, Birria Tacos, Carne Asada Tacos, and Chicken Tacos . So I had the full flavor profile to work with. read more

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. i live in surprise and will make the drive allllll the way out here just for their food. The atmosphere is very relaxed with seating inside and outside. The outside seating has romantic lighting at night. They offer the typical salsa bar options, but all above average in taste. The parking lot is kind of small for the amount of business they have. It truly doesn't matter what day or what time you come it will always be packed. It's family owned and operated which makes the feel that much more enjoyable. My husband ordered asada tacos, a birria, and al pastor. All mouth watering delicious! I ordered a gordita, although it was good, it was like a sope. The food was on top instead of inside. We ordered some horchata and a flan as well, not disappointing. The horchata you can tell wasn't that powder ish . If I had to complain about something it'd be that I wish it was bigger, more seating. You should definitely try it out. You won't be disappointed!! read more

Great food. Went twice in two days on my recent vacation to AZ. Every meat was great.

Problem with this place is the prices are so high for the amount of food you get. I had two beef tacos for lunch that were good but not to the tune of the price. Very limited meat and lots of cilantro on small flour tortillas. They do a good salsa bar with a really nice guacamole salsa. Will try again in a few weeks and see if it was me or them. read more

The potatoes are my favorite thing on the menu. Do yourself a favor and get one. This place is clean, cool trendy decor, great staff. It's always busy (which says something good about the food) and I'm never disappointed. I'm getting hungry just thinking about this place. I love this place and when I say it I mean it. I sometimes eat here twice in a day. I get the birria which is yummy but sometimes it's super fatty. Idk I still love it, this review is about my experience today): they don't have the best customer service. I called to place a phone order, someone named ray answered and I asked to place a pickup order, she took my order which was just 3 birria tacos. I asked her if she could put my meat in a cup and my toppings on the side because I had to drive them far before eating them. She said yes but was annoyed at my request, I could tell. Then she cuts me off and gives me my total and THEN says anything else? probably cause I wasn't done speaking and she could tell. Then she asked how I was paying, obviously super sketchy to just give your card info over the phone so I told her I would pay in cash. She was like uhhhh just so you know your food won't be ready until 10-15 mins after you come and pay. I didn't understand, so I tried to confirm and she was just laughing and pretending to not understand me anymore. I was like wait, my food won't be ready for 15 mins till after I arrive? What's even the point of doing pick up??? It doesn't even take 15 mins to get my food when I dine in here! And then she said if she could take my card info they could start making them now and was super eager to get my card info over the phone lol.
