I ordered takeout for myself and my husband last night : 1 Carne Asada Bueno Bowl 1 Al Pastor Bueno Bowl 2 orders of chips with beans and salsa 2 Flan Pickup was a little confusing as it is pretty compact inside the store. There is a big sign that says "Online Orders" however, customers are scattered all over inside & it is not clear who's in line to order or who's waiting on an order. I felt a bit uncomfortable because I did not want to cut anyone in line. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I did enjoy seeing the wood fired grill inside the restaurant, right behind the registers. It smells great and you get a chance to see the meats and veggies being prepared.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also have a self serve salsa bar, which is always a great addition! They have 4+ different salsa options, plus pickled onions, cucumber slices, lime slices, and radishes! Yum!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I mentioned that indoor seating is limited, but there is a very nice covered front patio area available with plenty of seating. If I had been dining in, I would have loved to eat outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food was great. Portions were on-point with the price you pay. I could only eat 1/2 of my bowl, and a few chips before I was completely stuffed! I really wanted to give this place 5 , but there was one issue that caused me to drop to a 4. Once it was time for Dessert, I noticed that the Flan was not fresh. 1 container had a date label that said "08/12/25" and the other said "8/09/25" it was 08/13/25 when we had this meal. I was not very concerned about the 08/12/25 flan, but knowing that one was from 4 days prior was definitely off-putting for me. All in all, we enjoyed the meal & would go back in the future. However, if ordering Flan again, I will check the labels before leaving the restaurant so that I can ask for a fresh one instead. read more

Came to this older Backyard Taco - - I think this may be the original? We go to Backyard Taco all the time. The food is consistently good, and as time goes by they tweak their menu to make it friendlier for me and my family. They now have bowls, which are ginormous, and plates that include beans and rice. Of course they still have the Papa Loca, which is a baked potato topped with carne asada, chicken, or whatever you want. The salsa's on the salsa bar always delicious, and the price is right. I have passed Backyard Taco more times than I can count. I am not sure why we never stopped by, but its extremely close to our new home and after a late night of moving, it seemed like a perfect opportunity! Not to mention, it was taco Tuesday! We showed up about 9 PM, and the setting is adorable. Though it is on University and receives heavy road traffic, with their shrubbery around the patio, it is not disruptive at all, or at least I did not notice. They also had lovely lights, which really set the tone for a great atmosphere. Service was good. everyone was friendly and food was prompt. We opted for carne asada, birria and pollo tacos. Though they are street tacos, they all had very generous portions of meats and toppings. Whether that was a late night situation or a regular situation, I am hear for it and greatly appreciated it! No one likes a skimpy taco. In addition, they have an excellent salsa bar. This girl LOVES a salsa bar. They had an avocado crema type salsa, a verde and red, pickled onions, pico, limes - basically all the fixings you could want. The tacos were extremely tasty and I loved the toppings, they were not out of this world, but they definitely hit the spot. The only disappointing part of our meal was the horchata. It was super watered down and lacked the rich and creamy flavor I desire. I would definitely order one again though to see if it was a one off. All in all, I would absolutely go back and look forward to trying some other things on their menu. Our favorite was probably al pastor, but they were all good. We also got a gordita for the first time and we didn't enjoy how hard the tortilla underneath was to chew...it wasn't as soft as the tacos or crunchy as the tostada. Our first time here. Had driven by previously and noticed all the patio lights and packed parking lot so thought we would give it a go. We didn't expect a fast food type of place but that is what this is. Service was great, the food was very good. It was in a Tuesday so they have a taco special plus a salsa bar that is unique. I love any type of guacamole but that isn't offered at this place. They did have some type of crema but didn't try it. They also have a great salsa bar to get some sauce for your tacos (or burritos or what ever you ordered) The place is cute; it looks like someone gutted out a house turned the yard into a parking lot & place into a restaurant. We came here as it was convenient to where we were and we had a dog with us, and we were assured that the patio is dog friendly. We arrived right before noon, and were lucky to get a patio table and to order our food before the crowd showed up. Our orders were taken quickly and the meals were served hot and fresh, and our orders were accurate. I enjoyed my quesadilla with carne asada. Many places have carne asada with gristle or pieces that are really fatty. That was not the case here, it was all lean and tender, and had a very nice smokey flavor. The tortilla was nicely toasted and crisp on the outside. I do think that over $4 for a small basket of chips and some beans to dip in is high, as most places offer free chips, but the beans had cheese on top and were good. It was almost too much food for a side for 2 people who also had entrees. The only reason for the 4 stars is that the patio is right up next to the street and it was loud so we had to talk quite loudly to have a conversation. I visited for lunch today. The food was fast, fresh, and delicious! I asked the employee at the counter to pick for me between the quesadilla and the burrito. She chose burrito and it did not disappoint! The meat is grilled right behind the counter over an open charcoal flame and it's great! Chips and salsa as a side is enough to feed 2-3.
