Hello, I ordered from your website for a take order from your location at 1633 s stapley 7/31/20 to be picked up at 7:30pm. This was the worst experience I have ever had with backyard taco. 1st when i arrived only 1/2 of my order was ready, however it was missed marked so the girl at the register could not find it. I ended up walking back outside to my car to grab my tablet and pull my email to confirm the store the date time. Etc. After about 5 minutes it was determined that 5 burritos sitting o the counter getting cold where part of my order. However the tacos and quesadillas where not there so when I asked how long it would take and how long had the burritos been sitting there I was told 5 minutes and they have only been there for 6 minutes.. needless to say the burritos where cold by the time I got them.home Now comes the best of the worst. I order 2 cheese and been quesadillas and recieved 2 folded flour tortillas with bean and sprinkles of cheese (so yes I needed up with bean burritos with cheese) and the cheese I requested to be added to my tacos was not there, yet I charged. I ask for no cabbage on the 2 of Carne Asda taco (yep you guessed it full of cabbage and no cheese) and the flour tortillas where so damn hard I had to break the top off to be able eat them. read more

It's so close to my office, they recognize me and know what my "usual" is. I ate here so often when I was pregnant, my son was mostly tacos when he was born. The tacos are small, so you will probably want to order at least a few (they won't judge if you order them 10 at a time, I know this personally), and remember that rice and beans have to be ordered separately. The salsa bar is amazing, and you can load up on as much guac, onions, cucumbers, limes, etc etc as you can handle. I highly recommend anything with their carne asada, but seriously, everything is good. The line gets a little long during the lunch rush, and it can be a little bit of a wait for your food. Don't come if you are in a rush, or just sit outside and enjoy the patio while you wait. read more

Tacos are decent. It's BEYOND overrated. If you've heard all the hype it's a massive let down. I live a mile away and I drive the extra couple miles to go to BAja Joes. Very modern and clean. Great place to go with family and friends, even brought my dog and sat outside on their covered patio. Super quick and HOT food and kind employees. Meat is fresh and you can smell it before you even walk inside. Their salsa/guacamole bar is amazing - never seen anything like it. I had steak and chicken, I preferred the steak over the chicken, but both were delicious! My friend had one of each and said al pastor was her favorite. They do not skimp on meat at all - huge scoops! I needed a fork to eat the extra that fell out of my taco. The quesadilla was probably my favorite though! I love cheese and with their steak inside, I wanted to go back for another and another! Do not miss out on this place! I highly recommend it!! read more

Best to go on Tuesdays for taco Tuesday when you can save some money. Don't stick with just one flavor, get a couple and a variety of meats. I prefer the location on Staple versus the location at University. The burritos are a little on the small size. But if you get a few tacos and a quesadilla you will have plenty to fill you up. read more

The taco doesn't taste anytin like a Bakyurd bot that is good thing! More pricey than the Taco Bell but also Mucho better than tako smell. If you have a backyard or if you don't have a backyard this is a very good place to get taukus! read more

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Just gave this place another chance only to wait in line and overhear another customer demand a manager because their card system was down and they were accepting cash only. There was no sign up, there was no attempt to let waiting patrons know that it was cash only. It was simply by hearsay that I got this information. There was no manager available to help rectify the issue today or the last time I went in. The poor customer who demanded a manager was never even given a phone number or email to the manager to share his experience. It was just a simple "the manager is off today" and that was it. In fact, every time I've ever been to this location the manager is never there, it is ran by high school students. There is never an adult present and the adults I have seen are all cooks and doing food prep. This is completely unacceptable. It is insane to think an owner of an establishment would leave its care in the hands of high school aged young adults. Seriously?! The kids are friendly but when things go awry with an order or a card machine is down or when there is an inconsistency in the quality of food, these kids have no clue what to do. That is the job of the manager, to actually freaking MANAGE. I encouraged the staff to put a sign on the door letting people know that they were accepting cash only so no one would have to wait in line only to be told when they get to the cashier. The cashier Veronica was very sweet and apologetic and she had another staff member put signs up right away who did so reluctantly and not with the best attitude might I add. Again, this is no diss to the staff who are there. The issue is the lack of management being present. I've never seen a rep from backyard taco respond to any disappointing yelp reviews like many other restaurants in the valley and that's a shame. Update Review and Response: Thanks for the prompt response Tyler. I appreciate you taking the time to write such a thoughtful response that addressed my concerns. Since you mentioned me reviewing the food, my thoughts on the food I had today is that it was mediocre at best. I thought the carne asada was dry and lacking in flavor. I thought maybe it was just one taco but it ended up being consistent in all 3. The birria taco I had was splendid. My mother ordered a burrito which had plenty of carne asada which was great but again she felt it was flat on flavor too. My main discrepancy is with the lack of management present the times that I've been. I'm not refuting that management exists, it's just they don't the times that I've gone, day or night. I think it's great backyard taco has over 1k 4 and 5 star reviews. That's the same reason why I returned. I was hoping my first review was a mere aberration. Thats also why I left my place in line to go withdraw cash and came back so I could enjoy some tacos at your establishment today. I work hard for my money Tyler as I'm sure you do too so when I go out to patronize a locally owned business, the food and customer service is equally important to me. The interior building is very small with just a few tables and the outside patio is beautiful yet small. The staff was helpful with explaining the items. The menu is straight to the point and they have a great selection of salsas. The misters outside were very nice. I would say eat outside if you can, the inside building was very smokey from the fire pit and it made it hard to enjoy our meal. Over all, very yummy place to grab a quick bite to eat. read more

Backyard tacos are in my menu every other week since they are a little far from my house. I recommend the carne asada. I usually get vampiros and ever once in a while I get a papa loca. The only thing I don't like about this place is that they start removing all tables around 9ish even though they close at 10. If you get there at 9:20 you have the feeling that they are rushing you to leave quick. Other than that it's perfect. read more

Great tacos! Loved the mesquite smoked flavor of the meat. Salsas are flavorful. The only disappointment was the beans. They lacked any real flavor. Went at noon and it was fairly busy. Seating is limited. They do have outdoor seating but it was cold outside. No heaters. Overall Backyard Taco is five star food. A definite must read more

Spent $30 for 2 and I'm only giving it an extra star because the food was decent. We came in at 5pm on a Friday and barely anyone was in there yet it was very noisy. The man at the register spoke so softly that I had to lean all the way in to barely hear him. We spent $30 for two people and it looked like it was all thrown together. Portions were small. Sad to say, Taco Bell has bigger portions and looks better. Then after getting our food, we had to remind them to give us our drinks. Great little place in Mesa! They cook their meats right up front behind the cashiers, so the smoke gets a little much at times, but they keep it ventilated as best as they can. Decent prices, meat taste really good, great refried beans and yummy salsa. Over all 4 1/2 stars. Make sure you stop by between normal lunch and dinner times because it gets pretty busy! read more
