I just wish portions were bigger and the beef needs to be a little more tender. I couldn't bite through the beef making me pull it out as I bite it. The chicken torta was perfect, I just wish it had chipotle mayo with more chicken. The limeaid and the horchata were absolutely delicious and made with love perfectly! I would definitely come back! Called in for an order. Originally had meant to get tacos, but I didn't really know what I wanted, and the lady suggested the Torta. She said that that was one of the best things on the menu and she recommended the pork one. The sandwich gave me a breakfast vibe... The only thing it was missing was an egg. So if you're looking for breakfast, I think the pork torta add a slice of egg... If they even have egg, would be delicious I also got the french fries, they were nice, hot, and crispy, and a little bit breaded. Those are great too. And they were nice and hot when I got them, she said the bread from the Torta has made it home, it was absolutely delicious... But it definitely made my tummy hurt. (That's my fault, I'm not suppose to eat gluten) lol, excuse that bad grammar and repeat statements... I did voice to text hehe read more

This place is so underrated. Two bean and cheese were $8 and change and they were both large burritos and super tasty. They melt the cheese inside the burrito to slightly burn the cheese which gives it a great taste. I can't figure out why it's not more popular than it is. Awesome spot. read more

This place has amaaaazing tortas. Its definitely a hole in the wall place, as I have driven by countless times and never thought about going inside. I knew better. I walked in and it isnt fancy or have frills but that is the best kind of Mexican food places. I ordered their torta with beef and green chile. They gave me a bottle of their red salsa which was okay. It wasn't spicy to me and I couldn't really taste it. But the torta on it's own was amazing. It was soft, the bread buttery and fell apart as I was eating it. The meat was tender and paired great with the mayo and avocado. I will definitely return next time. read more

Just moved to Mesa 4 days ago and today was the 2nd time coming here. This place is fire!! The beef Milanesa torta is my wides new favorite. Ive had the shrimp quesadilla and the asada burrito and both were great. I know we will be eating here for many years read more

Came here last night about 15 minutes before they closed since they were the only torta place opened, so of course I was hoping to have made a right choice when picking El Chavo. Let me sing you the song of my people Aaaajúa!! Myself and my husband had never been here before. We were in the area house hunting when we pulled in to the parking area. We noticed many people going in and out the door. I asked my husband who swears by the YELP rule of 3 stars or more; if he wanted to just have dinner here. Upon approval. We came in. There's plenty of seating and ICE COLD A/C The restaurant and grills were really clean The flow of the restaurant was very good. It's cozy but not crowded. THEY HAVE BOLIS!!! Both the young ladies who took our order and poured our aguas frescas were really nice . They were well spoken and courteous when offering samples of the aguas and repeating our orders back. they have a well layed out menu and specialty menus. Don't blink or you'll miss something. We both ordered tortas with sides of rice and beans. Biddi biddi bom bom! Perfect beef milanesa torta! Grilled perfectly with mayonesa not butter. And the veggie toppings were good and fresh. Rice was good, beans were on point! I mean ON POINT. My husband had the cochinita piblin torta and he said it was very good. We washes our meal down with refreshing aguas de cantaloupe and horchata. So ive driven by this spot many times. We were in the area during lunch and i talked my coworker into trying it. Its in a sketchy area in mesa so usually that mean we are in for a treat. We walked into a small shop that was completely clean and friendly. We were excited cause right away we saw a baker baking their own torta bread so we were stoked! I ordered a carne asada torta and a horchata and my buddy ended up with a carne asada burrito and we got them to go. It felt like within minutes our orders were ready to go! Once we got back to our jobsite we dove into our food and to our suprise we were both pretty disappointed. There was such little meat in both our items it sucked. All fillers and no thriller... Traveling from NY visiting my -at the time -mexican gf's family, I was eager to try some tasty food! As soon as we passed by this place I knew I wanted to try it! I mean, come on! It's called "El Chavo". Sooo sin querer queriendo we ended up eating like 4 times during our trip! Tortas are like my drug, all fresh with tasty meat and delicious cheese! This place is horrible, asked for fries they messed up my order, they talk way to much and not focus on the meals they are prepping, the food is way too cold, the rice and beans are just trash, I regret ever giving this place a chance, I've now learned my lesson in going out to eat rather than staying home and eating cereal read more

This is probably my favorite torta place in the phx area by far. My boyfriend and I came in with high expectations according to their reviews and they did not disappoint. I think this place used to be a lot better, but maybe it is because of their growing business. They continue to deliver quality tortas but no longer pickup the phone to place carry-out and only give 1 salsa with a torta instead of 2. The place has been renovated greatly since they first opened and they have more friendly staff. Brush up on your Spanish if you are going to visit. The carne asadas tortas is basically the goto item; it is filling, the carne asada has great taste, and they use the freshest vegetables. Their aguas are also amazing and I recommend the Frutas one that has apple, strawberry, banana, and other magical mixes of fruits. read more

This is one of our Mesa go to's for years. It is Family owned by a couple brothers and you can taste their care and love put into the food. They bake their own bread and it is delicious. The carne asada tortas are meaty, yummy, and thy don't go cheap on any ingredients. Full of avocado and meat!! They have our favorite Tostitos preparados , fresh, delicious and huge! A must try for sure! read more

I wouldnt say its the best torta in the east valley but it was pretty good. Their carne asada was seasoned nicely and the bread was fresh but I wish they had toasted it a little bit. Horchata was housemade and also tasty. Service was friendly and prices were reasonable. read more

We've gone here 3 times this week! I'm kicking myself for not giving this place a shot 4 years ago when we moved around the corner. The Desehebrada c/ Rajas and Cubana tortas are fantastic! The fries are also perfectly crisp and seasoned. You have to use their red/ brown hot sauce, very spicy but great flavor. read more

The tortas are bomb. Tiny hole in the wall place in a somewhat suspect part of town. The employees don't speak English, but it really doesn't matter. The food is delicious and they make it super quick. The tortas have heaps of fresh avocado (more than more places would ever put on a single torta). You can get gut busting full for about 5 bucks. read more

They have these Jalapeños with soy sauce lemon and salt that my brother likes a lot. They do have different aguas frescas like horchata, fresa, Limon, coco, Jamaica, melon. I found the only open table and then hit up the salsa bar. They have 4 or 5 different salsas/hot sauces and a few other goodies. I got a small cup of each sauce and all of them were quite good. My food was colorful, flavorful and just the right away to give me some energy without being lethargic. I could go on about a few other nice things but it seems most of East Mesa already knows about this place given the high scores on Yelp from a lot of reviewers. Nothing to prevent me from giving a 5* review at this time. I look forward to trying some more dishes in the future.

We ordered the Hefe fajitas steak chimichangas and the Chipotle Albondiga soup and cheese crisp. Food 5/5 First the cheese crisp was the best we've had. Thin crust browned perfectly and the perfect cheese blend. The soups was very nice as well. The Hefe chimichangas was ginormous with great fajitas steak and stir fried vegetables. Delicious leftovers. Both locations impressed. Thank-you Lesi! $51.18 and $20 cash tip for outstanding service we told your Mgr about. Now, he proposed that I order from Chipotle instead since they fail to give customer what one paid for. Update #3: The owner still going back and forth with me and now claiming I did not pay for the burritos. Not really sure what he means by that.
