Based on reviews here, I contacted BACS a few months ago to help with very slow performance on our two Windows XP computers. I spoke with Mike who then sent Mat out to look at our machines. He ran a bunch of tests, but was unable to make much difference in the performance. After he left, I discovered that he had run some "cleanup" utility that reset a lot of settings and preferences. In all of my Office apps, the Recent Documents history was deleted. Several quick launch shortcuts failed to work or were deleted. He never asked if this was OK or even mentioned to me that this would happen. A few days later, I noticed that the speaker applet had been disabled so that I had no control of the sound volume. I called Mike who basically told me to get lost. He said that cleanup utilities sometimes reset things and that's just the way things are. When I asked why Mat hadn't even told me what would happen, let alone ask permission, he was dismissive. I then called Jeremy, who I presume is the senior partner. He also said I was making a big deal out of nothing and told me that all of their customers are very happy. These guys are good and trustworthy. Try to get a diagnosis upfront without paying; otherwise, you could be stuck with paying labor fees for a problem you misdiagnosed. It doesn't help that the company discourages you from leaving your computer off at their place; they come to you. However, I think most places (e.g., Fry's) have a hefty price for figuring out the problem; after all, they often have to dismantle it to find out what's wrong. On the other hand, Brent (maybe Brett), their repair person, correctly diagnosed the problem and fixed it the second time he came around, and I was not charged. Mike, the owner, was very responsive when I complained that the first fix didn't work. He also reimbursed me for the repair part that proved irrelevant. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome and with the excellent customer service provided by both Brent and by Mike. I recommend them highly, especially if you know what's wrong with your computer. If you're not sure, don't hesitate to ask them their policiy/price for diagnosing the problem. By the way, I wrote a thoughtful review, pointing out the mostly positive, with a few minor negatives, a few months ago. It now doesn't show. I wonder if this was accidental or intentional, and whether the removal was a Yelp thing. read more

This review is about Todd Stock's recent service and I see every reason for 5 stars. After finding out that the Geek Squad would be a 3-day wait, this was my first call to Bay Area Computer Solutions. Todd came to my house as soon as he could and performed a data transfer from a possibly compromised hard drive to my new laptop. He was personable and explained the process to me. Fortunately the transfer went smoothly. *** A few days later, I called Todd direct because a lot of my music apparently didn't make it onto iTunes. He was able to do a remote session with me immediately, at no charge. He quickly located the music files that didn't transfer automatically because of their unique format. He showed me how to convert the files and while we waited for them to convert, he gave me some good tips on how to use iTunes. I have been using Bay Area Computer Solutions since 2003. The quality of service they provide can be seen in the substantial growth in their staff. I purchased an I3 from Mike in December and love it. There was a problem with my laser printer: the distributor cancelled the order after Jeremy spent 1 1/2 hrs. getting product. Xmas time didn't help and installation didn't happen til 1/13. Other issues ensued with the 3 devices: IPAd ~ I3 ~ Android on that day. I was upset that the call took a long time ($$$). I wanted to share my positive experience working with Todd Stock on the home/office computer systems we use to run our Winery. First of all, we had easy communication arranging a date and time. Todd gave me very helpful advice for my Apple shopping trip, so that I would be fully prepared for our meeting. He then had the arduous task of replacing our router, our modem, setting up various printers wirelessly and getting everything to talk to each other in the best possible configuration for maximum user interface. Todd went beyond the call of duty, working in a full house with teenagers coming and going, a small dog that became enamored of Todd's minimal workspace. He left us in excellent working order, and was able to tweak one last quick, but important detail by telephone. He also took the time to show me many features of our computers that had not been apparent to me. I needed help in converting my computer E-mail system so that I could use it with Microsoft exchange and synchronize with my cell phones. I can't say enough about Bay Area Computer Solutions. My computer crashed and within a few hours a wonderful technician was at my door step. The problem turned out to be much more than anyone expected. Not only did my computer crash but the software that I needed to have re-installed onto my new computer was not compatible with the new computer system. Todd understood that I was in dire straits and that I needed to access the software that evening inorder to have a written report avaliable to the hospital staff the following morning. Todd remained at my homeoffice and communicated with the technical team at psychological corporation until the job was complete and I was back on- line. In addition to solving the problem Todd went beyond the call of duty. He ensured that the most up-to date versions of the software was properly installed. He spoke directly with the manager at psychorp and explained that I misplaced some very expensive software which saved me from having to spend an additional $600 dollars. Had it not been for his guidance I would have had no choice but to repurchase the software. Like like most of my peer group (doctors) I am not technologically saavy. Throughout this very stressful period Todd helped me to maintain my cool along with my dignity. I asked several questions that were undoubtedly "idiotic" to anyone in the tech world. His responses were always well thought out, reasonable to understand, sensitive and helpful Finally, Todd speaks highly of his employer Bay Area Computer Solutions and he seems very committed to his work. Highest recommendations! Our iMac started shutting down unexpectedly, and we had a few network configuration problems, so we called BACS. Made an appt for the next day and Todd came right on time. What an absolute pleasure to deal with this firm on all levels. Todd was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and polite, and while the iMac will have to go in for work, he diagnosed our router and printer problems and corrected those very quickly. We took his recommendation and got a new more secure wireless router from Fry's. and I installed that today. My wife and I have been in high tech for 20+ years, and it's not frequent that you find service of this high caliber. Highly recommend BACS to anyone in the Bay Area. When a computer challenge occurred, I had no idea where to begin to look for help. I use an iMac, had lost a huge section of important data, and began a google search. Way too many choices out there... BACS stood out, although I did call a few others as well. I called on a Sunday afternoon, left a messages, not expecting a return call until the following week. I got a call back w/in an hour from Mike at BACS. Considering I live outside of their general area of work, Mike told me he would check w/ his technicians and see if any of them would be able to assist me. The next day, Len Maggiore contacted me, remote into my computer, and solved my issue w/ ease. Not only was he knowledgeable, he was confident working w/ a Mac. He solved it while my computer stayed in my home! I am one very pleased customer! The next week, other companies I had called did call me back. For comparison purposes I explained what I needed. Just to see... I was quoted hundreds of dollars more than what I paid and days or weeks of being w/out a computer since I would 'need to bring it in for evaluation'. Great experience!! read more

So we both called around for quick computer repair and eventually went with this place. They appeared to be honesty and told us the video card needed to be replaced. Mike and laptop specialist Brent were showed what great customer service and technical expertise is all about. When my SONY VAIO power port broke and I had problems with heating up, I went first to Fry's. The guy I talked to sounded right off a used auto lot and there were promises of extra costs. Quelle suprise. Then I went to Yelp and too a chance on BACS. WIthin a few days, Brent came out and within an hour repaired the computer. Three hours later, it was as bad (if not worse) than it was before. Lesson: Do not diagnose the problem yourself, better to let the professionals do it. However, when I called Mike, he said he'd sent Brent out again, If the problem was not the fan (my diagnosis) he would not charge me for it. Brett came out again and, only through his extraordinary talent found another problem (something about switching the memory devices) that resulted in a fixed computer! True to his word, Mike refunded me the cost of the new fan that I didn't need. A couple of general things that might be helpful at any repair place. 1. Find out if you can have the computer diagnosed at the same time it is repaired, or if there's some way that they can you can leave it off, have it diagnosed, and leave the computer OPEN so that you're not charged extra for labor when the repair is done. This was unclear to me. BACS comes to your house, and MIke seemed hesitant about me leaving the computer at their office location. Perhaps he can clarify that here. 2. This place is fantastic if you know what's wrong with your computer and don't need to worry about diagnosis. 3. Even with the home service, the repair cost is likely not more than other places, but ask question #1 first, then try to get an estimate from somewhere else. 4. MOST IMPORTANT! Mike was professional and courteous on the phone, and listened to my complaint and problem after the first visit. He wanted a satisfied customer, and so sent Brent out again for a second try. Brent was great, and Mike was fair about refunding the cost of a part that I thought needed repairing but which did not. This is a place that values its customers. Just make sure that you ask enough questions that you understand the services, costs, and any options that might be delivery. If you're not sure, or you don't understand, ask again. Establish a good working relationship and realistic expectations and you'll be treated fairly. A great experience, thank you! read more
