The rain was relentless, but I'm so glad I braved it for the Bad Dog Bread run. There's nothing quite like peeling off damp clothes, diving into a warm blanket, and finally biting into that cranberry walnut sourdough. With a bit of butter and a hot cup of milk, the chill from the walk just melted away. Getting my clothes drenched in the rain was a small price to pay for such a perfect moment. read more

Fantastic pastries and legit French baguettes. They should make more sourdough baguettes per batch. The whole grain baguette doesn't sell nearly as well and the sourdough is always sold out by noon. Parking is tight in the small lot. Employees are friendly. Come early for the best selection. read more

This is a great little bread shop in the neighbourhood. I have been here a few times. I tried their croissants, apple turnovers, baguette, and brioche loaf. All of them were great especially they were freshly baked. A lot of people buy the bread here. Due to covid-19, there is always a lineup outside the shop. This bread shop supplies bread to different restaurants in the neighbourhood and others. I visited a couple of these restaurants and ate their bread. The quality was very good. I kept eating and eating and wanted more and more. Finally I got to the point that I had to buy the bread from Bad Dog Bread. Save myself some money by buying the bread here and make any sandwiches or types of food I want with the bread. read more

These guys are at all the local North Van farmers markets. We visit Loutet farms and if you're not early enough, you'll miss out on their cinnamon scrolls, almond crossoints and focaccia bread that comes to market fresh on a baking tray. We've usually been too late, but today... What a score, I can see why they sell out so quick! For about $24 we got: two cinnamon scrolls, a large soft choc chip cookie, a weighty almond crossaint, a good sized focaccia loaf with herbs and cherry tomatoes and a jalapeno and sundried tomato bun. And it was all excellent! I don't usually look for focaccia but this looked so delicious and didn't disappoint. Evoo and balsamic vinegar for dipping would bring it to another level. Next time I'll buy two before they run out! I'll be visiting the store front soon for sure to see what other goodies they might have. Grab everything you can and don't think twice, blink and it'll be gone! The only thing you'll regret is not buying more. read more

On dreary North Vancouver days, where downpours never seems to stop, the ultimate comfort is a good pastry. Bad Dog Bread is tucked into a cozy corner, right next to Orto Artisan Pasta. It has a small storefront, so only 1 person allowed at a time. There's ample street parking right around. Their croissants are the best and made with freshly-milled organic flour. I've had their cinnamon scrolls, a blueberry crostada and peach crostada. The flaky buttery layers of the pastry go perfectly with a cup of coffee. In the crostada, there is also a smooth sweet pastry cream that balances the tartness of the fruits. It's one of my favourite treats. I always grab a loaf of their sourdough bread so I can make my own toasts at home, and of course, a couple more galettes to go! read more

The best brioche bread we have tasted! The shop sits behind the main street and is easy to miss of you are not looking for it, but they still run out of inventory quickly because it is so good. Look for the Smoke and Bones BBQ from the main street (also a good place for food) and te bakery is located behind its back parking lot. read more

Tried the multi grain bread, which tasted good, but it was 60% white flour. Couldn't find an all whole wheat or even mostly whole wheat bread. I do really appreciate their integrity and honesty in describing the bread. They seem to care about and know their product. Best Ican do is 3 stars, and I debated a lower rating due to the prices being higher than others for this kind of product, selling bread without an option to slice it for you, and of course not enough breads with lower white flour. The small eclectic shop has a good feeling from an ambiance perspective, and even the other customers were pretty nice. Yep, I'll at least give 3 stars, but I would only go there occasionally at most, for the reasons previously stated. read more

Bad Dog Bread is seriously in my top 10 books. It's one of those local hidden gems that locals rave about however don't want over exploded so it doesn't get busier than it already is. But this secret is too good to keep... If you're a sourdough/carb fanatic like me, you NEED to know about this place. It's a small little bake shop tucked in an alley that sells the BEST bread using freshly milled and all organic local grains. They sell sourdough, whole wheat loaves, specialty loaves (with delicious ingredients such as cheddar, jalapeño, cranberry and more), the most delicious and soft brioche buns (their spicy one is to die for), 100% rye bread and my favourite: their SOURDOUGH BAGUETTE!! They are priced higher than average but you can taste the quality in all their bread. I swear I could eat an entire sourdough baguette to myself and not feel sick. The only downside is that there is always a long line and everything sells out quickly (their sourdough baguette sells out within hours). But for me, it's all worth it. read more

This is some pretty darn good bread, I am still chewing on it now while writing this review. Not in North Vancouver often, so when I had the chance I had to strike, and from reading the reviews this place used to also be a restaurant - this is no longer.... but the bakery is still in operation on the side. I came around 10 AM on a Friday, not too busy, but what do I know, this is the first time I have entered in this place. Came to the address and there is a sign saying the bakery is around the corner, went in, and remembered a long time ago this was a place that used to serve handmade soba noodles. This was a mission for bread so I did not have a particular one in mind and I asked the person there what was their best sell, and she responded to me : country loaf, I was presented some other loaves and the baguette´s coming fresh out of the oven but my mind was set. Don't worry they take card, and it was a bit over $9... I thought this was high at first until I got home and saw the size of this loaf, you can compare yourself, it is practically double that of any of the popular bakeries around town (Terra, A Bread Affair, etc....) and when I decided to cut this thing I really appreciated what they are doing... these people take baking seriously and I do not see this loaf lasting too much longer while my nomnomnivore continues to devour it. There is a true bread sense, from the chew of the perfect crust, to the bounce of the inner portions, I first thought... at least I tried, now I am thinking.... when do I go try their other selections. read more

Maybe I shouldn't write a review after just one visit-if things change I'll re-do this one. Anyway the bread is fine but not terribly unique and definitely over priced. The 'new store' might be great for bakery staff but it's unspeakably cramped for customers I literally had to go outside just to change my mind (!) Sorry for the old joke but when I mentioned the lack of space to the staff member serving me I quickly realised I might as well be speaking Ukrainian because he didn't get it at all; and speaking of staff the nasty piece of work woman with the short blonde hair needs to be shown the door ASAP maybe she can find work as a prison guard someone with that kind of negative attitude shouldn't be working with the general public at all. By all means stop by this place if you're in the neighbourhood but don't spend too long looking for parking you can do much better elsewhere. read more

Stopped here on a whim on our way to Whistler. Bad Dog is now one of our favorite bakeries. I probably sounded like a fool with all of my questions but the nice bearded man in the Patagonia apron kindly answered them all. We made sure to stop again on our way back from Whistler and he even remembered us, asking how our trip was. Between our two visits, we purchased baguettes, some kind of country loaf, a poppy seed bun, chocolate chip cookies, and a ginger cookie. Every single item was the best of its type we've had in years. Hubby even said he liked the cookies better than Levain (Levain cookies are his favorite). Will be back on next year's Whistler trip. read more

Heard good things so I went to check it out. Paid $11 for a loaf of sourdough. It was overcooked and burnt in places. It had burnt olives stuck onto the crust that were like lumps of anthracite. Disappointing, I guess it's only good for toast at this point. Sliced it, more air bubbles than bread. Feel massively ripped off. Will be sticking to Cobs from now on. read more

This place UNBELIEVABLE!!! Terra breads can eat my shorts! The bread at bad dog beats anything I have had in Canada bar none. The baguette tastes exactly like a baguette in France. I went in last weekend and I had a sample with a bit of butter and I nearly fell over. They worked hard on their recipe, testing and perfecting it over 4 months. Super nice guys working there. They sold an entirely burnt multigrain loaf for $9! Even dogs won't eat. Very sneaky to bag it so customers cannot see the loaf.

Great product. I've tried the country white and the whole wheat with caraway seeds and they are both excellent. Service can vary, depending on who's on the counter. One time the owner chatted away with a man who was likely a friend, as I stood there waiting. I finally asked if I should come back later, at which point the "friend" glowered at me and the owner reluctantly served me. Another time I asked for a 1000 gram loaf of country, and was told that they had not been making that size for some time "and had just not gotten around" to updating their product sign. They've had a young woman counter person at times, who is helpful and friendly. It's a bit hit and miss, but the quality products are worth the sometimes less then stellar service. read more
